Not really the consensus on the Tele forums. I'm always told to buy a Squier Classic Vibe as a better value. I'm in the market for a Tele around this price and I'm seriously torn.
@@sundaynightdrunk I own both. The Squier needed a lot of parts upgrades; tuners, pots, switch, telesocket and jack, etc. The Player Tele got a telesocket and jack, that's it.

I watched the £1000 challenge yesterday and came to watch this one (even though I don’t like Teles) because these videos with Warren are great. Thanks guys!
I really love my Mexican Fender Baja Tele Butterscotch bought last year, 10 yrs old. This is a wonderful guitar to play; you can even get a ‘humbucker’ sound via the extra switching options provided by Fender Custom Shop design. This would have been an interesting instrument to compare.
Here is the absolute point. 99 to 5000. Very few if any quality metrics discernable. Play it for 30 years. It will be relic'd and you will be worth hearing.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for having Warren on. Ever since I saw the vintage photo of Warren in front of the store. What fun. That gold sparkle is pretty cool looking!
one of my favorite blindfolds! Warren's channel, Produce like a pro ,I follow as well as it provides so much good information on recording. My favorite tele was the player, great guitar.
I dreamed of it, you did it! Warren at Anderton's TV! The EastCoast Tele is so impressive. Thank you so much for that! Happy New Year from across the pond!
This is great! And, I always like listening to Warren talking anyway. HIM struggling to determine the price of these five Telecasters makes me laugh at the amount of agonising, decision-making I spent a few months ago before deciding which Telecaster to buy. I ended up buying a Squier 60s Classic Vibe…..and this merely confirms to me that anything more expensive would have been totally wasted on me! 😂
So glad you mentioned that California strat. I owned one and when I speak about it people think I'm crazy as they don't call it that anymore. It was the best guitar ever and was also made about 98.
These are fun to watch! and I agree with Warren, I have a Fender Player butterscotch telecaster and I love it, the neck is perfect. Although I have modded mine with vintage specs ie vintage tuners, vintage bridge, brass saddles and Twisted Tele pickups. Great guitars as is or for modding! Thanks Lee and Warren!
Warren, youre a hell of a player. Great guitarists love telecasters, and it was refreshing to see Andertons revisit these great axes. Definitely subbed and watching from Tennessee America.
So cool, I love these blindfold challenges. My #1 takeaway from a few years worth of blind tests is that you should buy the stuff that feels good, since price tags are functionally cosmetic. Keep up the great work folks!~
I wholeheartedly agree with that statement from Lee saying that the sweet spot for a guitar considering the law of diminushing return is about 700€ to a 1000€. Over that it's often overkill. That 700-1000 is also the sweet spot to have great woods and parts to replace to make it better.
I think we're in a peak period for mid-priced guitars. I have a couple of Squiers and a Gretsch Electromatic and they're all very, very good. Not excellent, perhaps, but extremely playable and solid platforms if you want to upgrade pickups, etc.
I truly enjoyed watching and listening to the views by Warren. Honest gentleman. Great guy, you can tell. Giving an expensive guitar to his son as well, but chooses a guitar which he enjoys, rather the value. Stay safe 👍🏼
I was back in the old ‘ford last November and did this nostalgia tour of the shop then! I probably bought strings from Warren as a teenager in the 90’s!
I have to agree. I've played a ton of Teles over the years and the one I own is a Mexican Player series. Mine has the more vintage, three brass saddle, bridge, but it's much the same as this one. Excellent choice.
Have never heard of Warren until now but thoroughly enjoyed his philosophical approach! Lee joked, but I did actually find his quote about people wanting some humanity again quite profound (rising popularity of analogue synths bit). Also the bit about Gen X experiencing both worlds of analogue/digital in their youth, so they have a unique perspective. Thanks guys!
I think I was about 12 and had money saved to update from a grey Yamaha portable keyboard I was playing in a Big Band. I went into the shop wanting to buy a Yamaha DX7, thinking it was the latest and greatest. The sales guy was very nice and let me try the M1 so I went home with the brochure and came back some days later with my parents and all my pocket money. I also got a keyboard combo amp custom sound colt 100 with a 15" eminence speaker and a horn driver, which was loud and heavy. I still have it. I tried playing electic guitar through it and it took me years to find out it is not the guitar's fault that it sounds crappy 😂 Thanks Warren for answering, it was an honor to hear from you personally. I follow your channel as well.
Wow!@@hawedehre that's awesome! The M1 really was a game changer, in the real sense, the first proper sounding keyboard that closely emulated the sounds as close as could be for the time!
6:04 - That's kind of the way in this region of the world, isn't it, where we still have old buildings and they were all squished together in width, but then go back for a lot more. I mean, that's with a lot of historic cities in The Netherlands, where you might have a "slim" entrance, but then the store just keeps going in terms of depth, let alone if they have the next floor above as well. - And some older houses where people still live might not be that wide either, and perhaps not even that deep, but then they might have pretty large garden in the back while the front is near a road or something.
Great shootout!!! It would be great if you could have Mike "Puisheen" Adams do a Jazzmaster shootout, find out what he likes best and if he could tell the differences especially the pickups.
To be a little more of an anonymous selection, it would have good to swap the guitars around AFTER he was blindfolded and then start handing them to him randomly. Because seeing where they were located before being blindfolded can still be a bit of a give away, since there's the ability to hear where they were being pulled from. and knowing when you were facing away while talking and grabbing another guitar could give some idea that the ones being grabbed where the one of the two behind you. Just a thought.
I’m kinda glad that people are starting to complain about relic guitars because maybe the price will go down and I can BUY MORE of them!! The best thing about a relic is that it’s easier to play. Warren does need to do a followup video on home studio setup. Havent seen one since your outboard gear with sweetwater. How good is the home studio? Great vid and look forward to the followups
Anyone own one of the Eastcoast Teles? That’s a terrific endorsement for a £99 guitar! What an absolutely wonderful channel this is. If it was on BBC4 on a Friday night I’d be sitting down with a big glass of wine and a big bowl of crisps. But you probably get as many views as they would anyway! How you guys manage to produce so many excellent videos and also run a great music shop is beyond me. I watch quite a lot of stuff on RUclips but this is the ONLY CHANNEL ON THE INTERNET where I check every day to see if there’s a new video.
Wow! Agreed, great guitar for the monet, in fact great guitar full stop! Just plucked from the wall as they sell them! Thanks for the compliment, yes, Anderton's do an amazing job with their videos!
@@Producelikeapro Also enjoy your channel Warren. The same unpretentious enthusiastic schoolboy approach combined with genuine talent and knowledge. Great playing to showcase such a great range of teles. I'm more of a Custom 24 and 335 fan myself though as after a lifetime of loud guitars, that steely telecaster twang rings in my ears too much.
Great video with a different guitar player being blindfolded, very nice to watch so thank you! Now when it comes to choosing guitars nowadays, we buy a lot of stuff on the internet, so without actually playing the gear, it is obvious we go for looks (and specs when it comes to guitar necks, especially with Fender having so many different fretboard radii) For example, I like Telecasters with rosewood fretboards, because they make such a beautiful colour combination with the lighter back of the neck and then whatever body colour you chose. I have a mystic surf green and a vintage white Tele because of those colours. One is American, the other one is Japanese made, but I love both of them. Would I pick those guitars blindfolded, so just going by the sound? Who knows, perhaps in this challenge, I would have gone for the Mexican one as well, who knows. I think that your brain wants you to love the guitars that you pick because you didn't buy them after a blind fold test. But, these blind fold tests do show, that more expensive doesn't necessarily mean, better of more fun to play. And that is a reassuring thought for those of us who can't (or perhaps don't want to) spend large sums of money on guitars.
Watched this vid yesterday, 30th Jan. I had been looking at buying a T type kit to put together, as I had a hankering to get an electric ( Pure acoustic up 'til now ). When I saw and heard the East Coast T. I thought that would suite me very well, over chancing a kit, which was a bit more expensive. 24 hours later, I have just opened the box and am pleased to report it is extremely well made. It feels a bit alien at the moment: narrow neck, 009s etc, but I will change a few things to suit me and feel sure it will do all I ask of it. And it looks a lot better than any finish I could do. Cheers Andertons!
I also think that the MIM Teles and Strats have very comfortable, very playable necks. And then there is that of my MIM Woflgang, which is phenomenal:)
Huart has really slick way of playing. Just so smooth. Funny though how he compliments the cheapest necks and setups, because when I tried this thing "go through tellys from cheapest to as expensive as you can tolerate", it wasn't until 800 euros that they didn't feel uncomfortable and slightly poorly finished and set up on the neck and fretboard. I really wanted to like the cheap ones too, the improved quality of Squiers and all that jazz. But they just lacked in neck and fretboard comfort.
Best is the American Performer. It’s got the jumbo frets, 9.5” radius and satin back of the neck like the Player series, but it’s also got the Yosemite pickups and brass saddles. USA made fender for around £1k - ultimate middle ground
I wouldn't swap my Fender Baja Telecaster shell pink special edition fot that £5000 but that Fender Telecaster Limited Edition Yellow i defenitly would buy it righr now if i could afford at this moment , just a gorgeous colour 😍. Defenitly no one can go wrong with a Fender Telecaster Player Series , they are great guitars who they don't need to feel shy when in the presence of her bigger 💰💲💰💵💳 sisters . . Saying this i recognise the value of the most expensive guitars . Sometimes we forget that a fender from 1954 or 1962 in reality they were not amazing guitar to play but they were what was available at that time that , they wouldn't play better than the ones produced in Mexico or USA . We always forget is not the guitar but the player who guives magic to the guitar independently of the price , model or Year was made .
Great comparison video. They all sounded unique but all like a Tele as you would expect. My favourite sound by far was the Custom Shop but would never go for it on looks and £5k is too steep!. I was quite surprised by the Mex Player. Just on looks I woud go for the MIJ or Classic Vibe - given the price difference it would probably be Classic Vibe.
Thanks ever so much for sharing! In the room the guys all preferred the Custom Shop too! My ears and my hands combined for the Player Guitar! Like I said a bit of confirmation bias as it reminded me of my favourite Tele!
Haha...The Tardis like Andertons indeed. I moved to Guildford from GLASGOW in 2006. Made friends and used to go to the pub beside Andertons every monday night every week of the year where we discussed life and art. Roll on to 2022 and a friend visits from Netherlands and he asks me if i can take him over to Andertons as he wants to have a look around. I asked him if he was sure as it was a tiny place....I took him down and in we went....I had pretty much the same experience as everyone who has ever gone and not seen an Andertons video i guess. It just kept on going back and back...He went away to play martins and Taylors and i just walked around looking at all the sparkly guitars. In 91 when i first moved to london i'd bought a fender acoustic but gave up trying to learn but i'd always hankered after trying again...and then i saw a lovely Gretsch Electromatic. Two weeks later i went back and bought it and a Katana 50 and started doing Justin Guitar online.....Hooray for Andertons....my favourite youtube channel!

@@paulmarshall2007wow! Thanks ever so much
Great video with a different guitar player being blindfolded, very nice to watch so thank you!
Now when it comes to choosing guitars nowadays, we buy a lot of stuff on the internet, so without actually playing the gear, it is obvious we go for looks (and specs when it comes to guitar necks, especially with Fender having so many different fretboard radii)
For example, I like Telecasters with rosewood fretboards, because they make such a beautiful colour combination with the lighter back of the neck and then whatever body colour you chose.
Top video, fun to watch. Pls make more like this ❤ Thanks 🙏
What's better than a Player series Tele? 2 Player series Teles!
Haha indeed!
I hope Lee gave you the Tele you liked!
Haha If only!
@@Producelikeapro Damn Lee is cheap ‘ You deserved it the Vibe was Awesome!!
Haha it's ok!@@samright4661
Thanks ever so much for sharing that!
13:36 we need more funky playing hell yeah
Haha thanks!
I also think that the MIM Teles and Strats have very comfortable, very playable necks. And then there is that of my MIM Woflgang, which is phenomenal:)
Marvellous!
Nice to see Warren at Andertons. Not far from me! I’ve been in that shop many times.
Great shop!!
I love to see you guys wandering around the guitar shop picking out guitars for the Tele Shootout :D
Thanks! It was so much fun!
Pretty cool to have WH on!
Thanks ever so much Bruce!
@@Producelikeapro yes sir! Did you buy the tele lol.
@@brucegregoriI wish! Now I’m rethinking it! Lee, save it for me!!
@@Producelikeapro I’m sure Lee can send it over to you lol.
Lee? Can you do that?@@brucegregori
Blooming hell, that some great blindfold playing. Love a telecaster.
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much!
Best is the American Performer. It’s got the jumbo frets, 9.5” radius and satin back of the neck like the Player series, but it’s also got the Yosemite pickups and brass saddles. USA made fender for around £1k - ultimate middle ground
My takeaway from this vid is that Warren is a fretmaster and could play anything and make it sound good..and blindfolded also to boot
Wow! You’re very kind! Thanks ever so much
Freebird playing in the background at the beginning was cool
Aha! Demonetised! Haha
2:38 Captain's face 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If I ever find myself in England, I’ll find myself making my rounds in Andertons!
Great times! It's a lot of fun!
Awesome stuff! Great fun! :)
Thanks ever so much!
Thanks ever so much for sharing your experience! I really appreciate it
No problem. I watch your channel too!@@Producelikeapro
That's an awesome music store and I've see many!
Yes, it is!!
