Edit- lead singer in this song Paul Carrack, sang lead on hit songs "How Long" with Ace and "The Living Years" with Mike & The Mechanics!! Chris Difford wrote it about his ruminations on a relationship that is failing, or has failed, due to his own infidelities.

“Tempted” tells of the narrator’s futile attempts to stay faithful to the woman he addresses in the song while dealing with temptations on the road. Squeeze had a secret weapon to help put the song across in keyboardist-vocalist Paul Carrack. Carrack joined the band for East Side Story, and his soulful vocals found some profound, buried emotions in Difford’s guilt-ridden to-do-list.
It’s a credit to Difford that he is willing to show his narrator’s struggles maintaining his fidelity, as opposed to writing another clichéd anthem about the rock star on the road pining for his girl at home. For his part, Tilbrook created a melody that’s both instantly catchy and sturdy enough to endure. And Carrack pulled it all together with a vocal that makes you feel every bit of this guy’s torment, which is crucial to making him relatable to the audience.

The ‘clean cut’ voice you liked was Glenn Tilbrook’s who usually handles Squeeze’s lead vocals - and you’re right, he has a fantastic voice. It may be heresy to say it, but I think I prefer the later Live versions of ‘Tempted’ after Paul Carrack had left the band where Glenn handles the vocals. You should check out ‘Third Rail’ and see if you can hold the note on ‘rail’ in the closing section as long as Glenn does - it’s not studio trickery, I’ve seen him do it live! Good suggestions below for other tracks, but a more recent song is ‘Cradle to the Grave’ which is excellent. For a deep dive I personally love ‘Cupid’s Toy’ a great Squeeze melody and brilliant Glenn vocal.

Guys, I LOVE Squeeze! They had some great songs.... but Jay, seriously, if you want a song to get hyped up before a Bengals game, do Squeeze's "Annie Get Your Gun". It starts off fast and never lets up till the last note. One of my all time faves. "Black Coffee in Bed", "Hourglass", and "Pulling Mussels (From the Shell)" are also bangers. Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook do the majority of Squeeze's vocals. However, the man doing most of the singing here is Paul Carrack. Another suggestion - this song was produced by a very talented musician named Dave Edmunds, and I think you would LOVE his song "Slippin Away" (another 80s banger). Finally, the band is just called Squeeze. The "UK" is added because I think (not sure) that there was another band with the same name from the US around the same time, and they "UK" was added so there wouldn't be any confusion between the two. I could be wrong, though.

HIGHLY recommend reacting to those 2 if you haven’t yet. he’s also a prolific songwriter.

" "Tempted" was cowritten by Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford. Difford wrote the lyric while the band was taking a taxi to Heathrow Airport. The descriptions of the city and airport sights are interspersed with the narrator's ruminations on a relationship that is failing, or has failed, due to his own infidelities. As Difford recalled,
The original story behind "Tempted" is we're going on another American tour. I got on a taxi and I started writing down what I saw lyrically. I don't know the course of time of how long it took, but then I gave Glenn the lyrics and then Glenn put the music to it. It's an extraordinary song. It's one of the most played songs that we have in our catalog.[2]
Unlike most other Squeeze songs, which are sung usually by Tilbrook or Difford, the song's lead vocal is sung by newly recruited keyboardist Paul Carrack. According to Carrack, this was the result of a suggestion by co-producer Elvis Costello:
They’d actually recorded a version of that song before I was on board. Dave Edmunds produced it, and it was completely different. The song was in the can, and we were recording the other songs from East Side Story when we had some downtime and played ‘Tempted’ but in that slow, soulful, Motown groove. Elvis Costello, who was producing, ran in and said, ‘Let’s put this down on tape!’ So, we did, and Elvis said ‘Paul, you should sing it. [3]
Tilbrook recalls, "[Carrack] did a remarkable job [although] my ego was bruised initially."[4] Though the original arrangement, according to Tilbrook, "sounded like ELO," the final version song instead features a Temptations-style performance that featured Tilbrook and Costello performing parts of the song's second verse.
Tilbrook considers this one of his favourite songs: "It was our first song. It was when we grew up, really, as a band. When we finished it I couldn't quite believe it was us."[5] Difford also named the song as a favourite, saying "I do love 'Tempted'. It's so visual and again floats me back to that time when youth was a cloud I drifted around on from day to day".[6] Squeeze bassist John Bentley ranked it his fourth favorite Squeeze song."

Squeeze are a great band, one you’ll love because they are storytellers! It’s all about the lyrics. Well they’re good at it all but the story is the most important thing. As others have said, Black Coffee in Bed, Annie Get Your Gun, Cool for Cats, Pulling Mussels From a Shell & so many more great songs.
Paul Carrick was with them for only a very short time. The two main songwriters & singers are Glenn Tilbrook & Chris Difford.

They've split and reformed about a dozen times over the years. Many consider Squeeze amongst the leading bands of the Britpop era, alongside Dire Straits. There are lots of echoes of Lennon and McCartney in the original duo.

A tremendous band with a superb catalogue of material. You really should check out 'Labelled With Love', 'Black Coffee In Bed', 'Is That Love?', 'Up The Junction' and a host of others. The vocalist you focused on who sings a single line in 'Tempted' Is Glenn Tilbrook, who is widely regarded as the band's main lead vocalist, though vocals were shared throughout the band. He features on all the tracks I have recommended. In addition to being amazing musicians and vocalists, their lyrics are always moving and meaningful. Most of us who grew up with their music in the UK singles charts of the late 70s and early 80s know all the songs by heart. Legends.

Squeeze are my favourite band after The Beatles. I've seen them quite a few times live and they're always great. But this is not the usual singer for the group. Glenn Tilbrook the guy with the blond hair who sang the second verse that starts"I'm at the carpark" is the usual singer. The guy singing is Paul Carrack who was in a band called Ace in the early 70's and had a big hit with How long. He was in the band for this song and the album East side story that this came from. Then he left. But he joined the band again for they're Some Fantastic place album and tour in 1993 then left again. I've saw Paul live to a couple of times and he is great as well. He was the singer in Mike and the mechanics who did the song Living years that I think you may have already reacted to. I've saw them live too and they were great. Saw Glenn Tilbrook live a few times as well in small venues and along with being a great singer he is an amazing guitar player. Also the guy who writes the words to all they're songs is Chris Difford and Difford & Tilbrook back when this song came out were classed as the new Lennon & Mcartney as they were thought of as that good. Chris is actually one hell of a word smith. Check out a song by them called Some fantastic place about Glenns first girlfriend who died in the early 90's it's just wonderful. I'm going to see Chris live on the 5th of December in a solo show in a small venue in London and I've never seen a solo show by him. I'm very excited. Oh and round about the time of this song they played Madison Square Garden in New York and it sold out. They never got as big as they should have but because of this I've been able to see them in quite small venues and met Glenn and got his autograph. Oh and Miles Copeland who was The Police's manager was they're manager as well. And as A&M records were so happy with Squeeze they asked him if he had another group. His brother the amazing drummer Stewart Copeland had just started out with The Police the group that Sting got famous in. He then got them a deal with A&M and they actually became the biggest band in the world a few years later. Oh and why they are called UK Squeeze in this video is that there was a band that had the same name in America. I don't think they were very big. So only in America they are called UK Squeeze in the rest of the world it's just Squeeze. And they're original keyboard player was Jools Holland an amazing piano player. He left the group in 1980 and made his own albums. He has a band called Jool's Holland and The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and the original drummer in Squeeze is also in the band and he plays Boogie Woogie type songs and again I've seen him live a few times and he was great. He also presents a live music show called Later with Jool's Holland thats been running since the early 90's on BBC TV and it's a great show with new and old music groups and singers mixed together. Squeeze have had many line up changer over the years but for the last 10 years or so it's been nearly the same band. But what ever line up I've seen they've alwas been great live. Glenn is actually doing a solo small tour of America just now.

I LOVE that you finally made it to Squeeze which in not just one of my favorite 80s bands but favorite all time. They are story-tellers so each song is like a short story set to music, It is the sort of band that had members coming and going so there is more than one Squeeze sound but Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook (currently touring) laid the backbone from album to album. Tempted is from an album that Paul Carrack took over on keyboard and as the lead singer here. He had some solo success in the late 80s with Don't Shed A Tear and with the super-group Mike and the Mechanics.
If you want to hear more Squeeze look for their best-of album 45's and Under or, my personal favorite album Play from 1991.

And once you hear their work, that hunch was justified! Hope you review more Squeeze, apart from the early 80s classics mentioned in the comments, their later work really holds up (but alas, not as commercially successful): "Hourglass", "Sunday Street" and "Some Fantastic Place."
