No Paul Carrack on lead vocal or keyboards here, but wow, this is a fantastic version with Glenn Tilbrook doing all the vocals, the great late George Duke on the Hammond B-3 organ, David Sanborn on sax, and all of Squeeze in 1987. Thank you for sharing this gem of a post!
@@mikestevenson576 To me, it makes perfect sense. Both men have fantastic voices, but Carrack is better suited for this song. I prefer the timbre of his voice and his phrasing. Carrack definitely provides that sound. Just my opinion though.

A great song by great players who know how to play live. Props to the sound engineers on this - you can hear the kick and bass and the rest of the mix is great as well.
Wow, that just blew my mind. Paul Carrack (How Long Has This Been Goin On?) turned it into a smooth jazz song when he sang it - I love smooth jazz - but Glenn Tilbrook ripped it in genuine Squeeze fashion. Fantastic.
I just love this version--Glenn Tilbrook just nailed it! Saw these guys at a small college venue in Sioux Falls, SD when I was first married--best concert ever.

What a masterful song. There’s not a moment wasted, there’s not a move out of place, and for all of its sophistication it sounds so straightforward, deceptively so. And it builds like the best Motown track. Incredible.
I wish Jools would have Squeeze appear on “Later,” on The BBC some time . His program is always interesting but it would be great to see his old Squeeze mates Glen Tilbrooke and Paul Carrack and Chris Difford ! They should be the house band on that show. But alas the reality of bands and music is that people have their own lives and their own commitments and friendships get tested. Maybe it’ll happen one day?
I like this much more than the original. Partly because of Jool's being back, partly because of Tilbrook singing it all, partly because of the fresh energy, and partly because of the cool Sanborn sax. No goofy MTV video lameness, just pure musical chemistry by pros.

No one can sing it like Paul Carrak, BUT on this particular performance Tillbrook sings it AMAZINGLY. What a brilliant take of this incredible song.
