Thank you for sharing these. I never thought I'd see these "REUNITED" episodes again. I loved the episode featuring "Haircut". Nick Heyward looks better today in 2024 than when these were aired in 2005. SQUEEZE is/was brilliant. I saw them at The Ritz in NYC . We were packed like sardines. And "Tempted" was the song of the day😊

Saw them several times between 1974 and 1980. They were a local pub band playing around Deptford & Greenwich and at local festivals. Always top notch music. Met Glen and lived opposite Jools. They were old school friends of a friend of mine.

Funny that Chris made that comment about The Waltons - I saw Difford & Tilbrook together few years ago (2015) and the show opened with them 'waking up' in a bed together and then starting the show. Very funny and an excellent show. It's good that they put their differences aside, such great songwriters.

Paul Carrack sang lead on the original "Tempted." Carrack also sang with "Mike and the Mechanics." (Living Years) and
"Ace" (How Long) and by himself (Don't Shed a Tear.") Elvis Costello produced "Tempted" and can be heard singing on the 2nd verse.

    • @SPSregister

The solo tour wound up being a show that was really special to me. His solo show in Chicago played a bar called Martyrs, and he told us that the last few weeks of the tour had a ton of rain, and it was a beautiful night. He offered us a choice of a regular encore or he could put on an acoustic guitar and all of us could "take a walk." Naturally, the audience chose "let's all go for a walk" and he and his whole audience walked a few blocks up and down Lincoln Avenue. Every few doors he'd gather everyone around and play a song. After a few songs we went back to Martyrs and he did a few last songs on electric guitar to finish the set.
It was just a really cool evening, and such a great thing for him to take a chance and do something a little different.
Just saw the current lineup and loved it -- they still sound great.

I played my absolute best, had a huge crowd response, Glen goes "wow I'm scared to go on now, you really got them going." Right. He went onstage and completely schooled me. One of the finest performers I've ever seen.

So glad to know that all's well, ends well. Squeeze has reformed with Difford and Tilbrook. They have a a new line up with a bad-ass lady bassist, a fun loving keyboardist, and a delghtfully whimsical drummer. I saw them in Scottsdale, Arizona last month and they sounded AMAZING Their new C.D. is called, "Cradle To The Grave" and it's AMAZING. Chris and Glenn have mautured and they all seem to be having a wonderful time touring. Time certainly can and in the case of this band, heal.

I don't know about that....they had a few great versions of this band....With Jools and Bentley and Lavis....With Carrack and Bentley and Lavis....With Carrack and Wilkinson and Lavis....Current touring band is also very talented...Stephen Large is larger than life and Simon Hansen is very charismatic.....Glenn had checked his ego at the door and they really put on a great show...Their lack of mainstream accolades means nothing to their TRUE FANS.....Great songs, Great songwriting, Great musicianship....The best 80's Pop Band by far !!

We were packed in WAY over capacity crushing/leaning/ dancing/bopping up and down with strangers. It was like everyone on the floor was one unit. I always loved the musical dynamic between Glenn and Chris. Their harmonies, that one octave lower Chris blend, is perfect. To take Chris' lyrics and write music to them, is amazing. I always think of Brian WIlson and how he wrote complex tunes (minor keys, key changes, diminished chords, slash chords) based in Jazz which I always see in Glenn's music. It's what has kept both writers' music to stand the test of time. Brian needed a lyricist like Chris (although he did quite well on Pet Sounds with Tony Asher). I also respected how Glenn did it in reverse. It's common to have the melody, then coming up with the words.

My first concert. 1982, Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale, Long Island, NY. Squeeze was the headliner. I was 14 and thought they were absolutely the best band ever. I wore out three different cassettes of East Side Story and prided myself on knowing all the words to Piccadilly (or at least thought I did! Try figuring out the line of "adult films and Trini Lopez" without Google-doh!). They headlined and the opening acts were a little known band out of Athens, GA called REM who you couldn't understand and bounced around on stage like some kind of weird mop tied to a pogo stick. The next act was far superior and still gets my blood pumping-The English Beat! Ranking Roger OWNED the stage! So good, so cool, so fun. Makes me want to go back but then I think about my bad skin, dorky haircut, and braces and think better of it. Thanks for the memories!

I didn't watch Bands Reunited much at the time.
It was shunted 'round the schedules and I thought that my next favourite band would be along any minute so I didn't need those that have gone to reform.
Well now it's several years since I've had a new favourite band because the industry find it easier to promote a single person be it reality star, rapper or sportsperson.
What they should have had was someone like McCartney or Wilco Johnson to remind people that sooner or later they won't be able to reform.
Can you imagine them trying to make this show now. Reform S Club or Girls Aloud....and of course so many more people have died.

I wish the original line up would get together for a tour and an album. Always loved this lot and I grew up listening to them. Jools and Chris did play together at Xmas 2021. Cool for cats. There’s only one voice that sings that song as it should be. 😂

    How Bands Reunited works:
Bandmate 1: Was't that Aamer guy a jerk the way he ambushed us?
Bandmate 2: Totally! Screw that guy
Bandmate 1: I'm not reuniting for his dumb show
Bandmate 2: You know what would mess up his Band Reunited show the most...let's reunite 6-12 months after the show
Bandmate 1: Sounds good. We definitely can't reunite because of scheduling/personality conflicts...but then 6-12 months later we are totally back together again
    Bandmate 2: Perfect

I saw Squeeze over the summer of 2021. Jools, Keith and Gilson weren't a part of the band, but that's fine. The guy who was playing the keyboards absolutely killed it for Slap and Tickle. I will say if they are capable of being a part of the band, I don't know what would hold them back since I'll say it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. The only ones missing out would be them.

Good to see most of the bands featured in this series get back together for just one more gig. Sad that it was not to happen with Squeeze, obviously some of those old wounds run deep. Not surprising it was Holland, as he always was an odd duck ... like the time he got a colonoscopy on live UK Friday night TV.

@@davidlindsay9564 ....true that John was there at the initial stage and is a great player, but vocally, Squeeze was never better than when they had Paul Carrack come back ("Some Fantastic Place" album) with Keith Wilkenson on bass (Listen to the bass in "The Last Time Forever").....he had a more unique bass sound and a better voice than John....but I still enjoyed John's playing on those early Squeeze classics....

It depends on what kind of Squeeze you want? Do you want the laid back Soul Boys who sung "Tempted", or do you want that zany, manic, post-punk Madness type group who sung "Cool For Cats"? Personally, I prefer the latter!

The Prospect of Whitby in Wapping, east London. I think it used to be called The Town of Ramsgate and is reputed to be haunted by a Judge Jeffries. Last time I went there in 1991 I saw Suzi Quatro drinking in there with a friend. She looked at me and my ex and smiled as we were wearing leather jackets.

In their very early days I went to watch Squeeze at Dingwalls at Camden Lock, circa 1977, when they were still playing pubs. There were not many people in a fairly unresponsive audience - maybe 50. As Squeeze were finishing their set, a few people finally decided to show a bit of appreciation with a few whoops, claps and whistles. The band were not impressed. 'Yeah, whoo, whoo, you c***s. I've had more fun p***ing on people down the Kings Road,' was how Tillbrook put it, as they stormed off. They created some brilliant songs.

Jools will regret his decision ....life is very short .....and cruel sometimes....this would have made a lot of people remember what is was to be like 20 something again.....which is what all us 50 year olds want more than cash money or gold.....how much would you pay to relive just one day 30 years ago ????? Yes life moves on very very quickly nowadays......grey hairs......wrinkles grow bigger....as do waistlines....friends are lost and gone forever.......squeeze were shit hot with tunes that stood the test of time.....defo goes into the ‘ it’s a crying shame’ folder of life......so many people loved squeeze.....a tour would have been sold out in minutes........there are a lot of older people with money to spend but it’s memories that last forever......written by a fat balding 50 year old who yearns for days gone by........even just one day.....peace and love to all.....
