Great portamento, legato and vibrato on the guitar, too. I will be doing this as a solo act at my local pub next week, but I'll need to stick to rhythm guitar to keep it going. But I know I'll be subconsciously channeling Glen's voice. It's perfect for the song.
I heard this this morning on Sirius XM 80's on 8. I haven't heard this tune in more than 20 years so I had to look it up on RUclips. It's nice to see the Worlds Most Dangerous Band!

That would be a good idea but with it being America they might not see the band as major. They do include British bands but to think that an artist like Status Quo and Cliff Richard are yet to be included would be slim to think Squeeze have a chance

It's amazing really. Difford and Tilbrook were hailed as the new Lennon and McCartney during their initial heyday, and they were undoubtedly the best, most consistent songwriting team of their era. Yet today they are largely forgotten and unknown by all but the fans who knew their work back then.
Nobody remembers them because they aren't that good. Their only good song was "Tempted" and that was only because Paul Carrack sang lead on it. He was a big star in other bands like Ace and Mike and the Mechanics, so people cared about that one.

Chris, Glenn and all these cheesy, mugging session musician knobheads did a pretty decent job. I don't think the drummers cymbals and high enough though. Also, could they not have turned the yellow guitarist's vocal mic even louder?
I always hated when "bands" performed on Letterman during the NBC era, as you never got the full band, but just the frontman and and maybe another member. Usually the house band does a job job on the tune, and in this case they did. However, the backing vocals provided by Will and Sid are, well... not good.
I hate the fact that no one can enjoy music anymore without verbally fellating the artists. Everybody is a "genius" or "brilliant". People didn't used to be like this. Bother you?
Squeeze makes perfection look so easy.

Glen Tilbrook looks a lot like a young Anthony Michael Hall here.
I was just going to mention the exact same thing. Freaking dead ringer for AMH.
And Simon Lebon too
Good talk Russ...
Yes he do. Good call on that.
I've seen clips of him with dyed darker hair and floppy fringe when he looked like Dan Gillespie Sells (The Feeling).
Love Squeeze, and this song was always fun to try to sing along with them during the "take it to the bridge" part LOL :)

Cliff Richard is a one-hit wonder here with "Devil Woman".
Both at one stage by the British mediia were call the Lennon and mc carntney but they were great songwriters

"Good. Where's Dr. Ruth?"

This is better than I remember the actual song being. Might need to dig back into that album.
Chris Difford's slippery feet dance !
Like Elvis Costello.
Holy shit!
Yes, this is common on Letterman...the house band backed the leads of the band.
Too many times a live performance is nothing like the recorded track, but this is the definition of 'tight'

I feel like I'm pounding
On a big door
No one can hear
Me knocking
I feel like I'm falling
Flat to the floor
No one can
Catch me
From falling
The hourglass
Has no more
Grains of sand
My watch has stopped
No more turning hands
The crew have abandoned
The ship
The lights are on
But no one is in
Take it to the bridge
Throw it overboard
See if it can swim
Back up to the shore
No one's in the house
Everyone is out
All the lights are on
And the blinds are down
Take it to the bridge
Throw it overboard
See if it can swim
Back up to the shore
No one's in the house
Everyone is out
All the lights are on
And the blinds are down
I feel like I'm calling
On a telephone
No one can hear
The ringing
I feel like I'm running
Up a steep hill
No one can
Stop me
From running
The hourglass
Has no more
Grains of sand
My watch has stopped
No more turning hands
The little hand
Shakes its fist
The face is hanging
Out on a spring
Take it to the bridge
Throw it overboard
See if it can swim
Back up to the shore
No one's in the house
Everyone is out
All the lights are on
And the blinds are down
Take it to the bridge
Throw it overboard

See if it can swim
Back up to the shore

Everyone is out
All the lights are on
And the blinds are down
The hourglass
Has no more
Grains of sand
Little red grains of sand
My watch has stopped
No more turning hands
Little green neon
Hands
Take it to the bridge
Throw it overboard
See if it can swim
Back up to the shore
No one's in the house
Everyone is out
