"My assets froze while yours have dropped". Not hard to see why they were called the next Lennon/McCartney by many critics of the day. Love that economic, but tight guitar solo.
Seen them late 80’s 🤔 I think their popularity had waned a bit but they came to Liverpool and were visibly taken back at the reception..humble guys but incredibly talented and one of my all time favourites, great memories 😎
Brilliant. Finally got to see them recently and can't wait to see Chris' solo show in Brum soon. Get his autobiography folks it's an eye opener. Shocking that some random unknown bank owns some of the rights to all their earlier songs and they dont have any ownership rights. And it's still going on today with Taylor Swift.
In that era (early to mid-80s) we were hearing English bands on the radio constantly! It's no secret why, they rocked!! The quality of the sound is amazing.
Oh Steve !! Thanks for making me feel SO old !! Hahaha X What a wonderful band Squeeze is !! And the prize THIS time for he coolest dude in the band goes to.... Chris Difford !! Those glasses !! The lineup with John Bentley and Paul Carrack is truly a winning combination X
@@automotivel3501 I thought GIlson was the drummer until at least '83? I see Pinterest photos of him in '85. Looks like the same guy who played in Black Coffee in Bed video. Next guy would have been Pete Thomas. Google says he didn't come onboard until '93. No sour grapes with Jooles. He left to pursue a solo career in '81 and was replaced with Paul Carrack. Carrack is a monster of a musician. I'd have to say it was a good move for everyone involved. But hey, different strokes right?
Nobody does solos better than Mr Tilbrook. Check out Pinoccio, Wrong Side of the Moon, In Quintessence, Another Nail in My Heart... list goes on forever
I've seen many live bands my bucket list this is the only group that's sounds better now seen them in Bournemouth Glen and Chris utter respect to you guys the best
Rare Paul Carrak sighting on piano, since he was with the band for about "15 minutes." Long enough to sing the amazing opening verse of "Tempted" though.
@David Hargreaves I sort of agree ... Always looking for Jools on the keys but that ship has sailed along time ago. We saw Eric Clapton at Madison Square garden oct 2018 .. low and behold, Paul Carrack was manning the Hammond and sang the encore .. great voice!
East London is north of the river. Squeeze are from Blackheath which is in South East London. They do indeed have a unique London sound. I have loved them since I was a child.
I've not heard this song in 31 years, my dad had it on a tape in his car, he left when I was 7 and I recognised it straight away. What a song 👏
Genius!! Totally underestimated band.
Totally agree!
The TV show was called Top Of The Pops, it ran from the 60s to the 90s in the UK.

Top notch songwriting!
You cleaned me out, you could say broke...
@@shooshatowers8059 is that love.....
Saw them recently, sound exactly the same as the 70s/80s, best lyricists of that generation
gorgeous singer loved his voice
He still can belt it out even now (and ten years ago) ruclips.net/video/VMkGYI4sDZ0/видео.html
Such a talented band. Top class!
The way Glenn sings "Now that is love" at the end of each verse sounds so much like a young John Lennon singing "I'll Be Back."

Seen this Brilliant band live many times here in the UK.. Just love em 🎶🌻
Seeing them and the Furs in the Midwestern USA in a month!
Squeeze... Rock solid, every time!!
Great post. THANKS
It's from the country that produces the best music in the world, GREAT BRITAIN
Thank you! One of my favorite songs, let alone Squeeze songs!
The show is Top of the Pops, the tv station is BBC1.

A Quintessential English band, simply genius

Fab song, confidence of youth so apparent ❤ Best British band totally underrated! Smooth soul voice Mr Tilbrook ❤
Seriously, you don’t know this is top of the pops… huge band.
Great band. Really good songs. 👍👍😁😁🇮🇪
This is from Squeeze's appearance on Top Of The Pops circa 1981.
Thank you, I'm pretty sure you're right, based on Glenn's hairstyle. And other factors.
Oh Steve !! Thanks for making me feel SO old !!

Masters of post punk love
If we had known what was to come we would have cherished the 80s more.
John, I’ve been thinking the same a lot lately🙁

Saw them in Bournemouth too. Fantastic

He was on 2 albums .
Pure class.
wish there was recording of a live performance for this video
I'm pretty sure there is. I remember seeing them play live on tv.
This song has a very Beatles-esque vibe - I always thought it should have been a bigger hit than it was (only got to number 35 in the UK charts)
Top of the pops on BBC1
Top of the pops .
Life is all memory
Nice song
Love Love Love😊
Wow 😎😎
"Not Angles, but Angels, these."

Very beatle-esq

The Jam next That's entertainment .
Damn....Paul Carrack on freakin' keyboards
A very young Paul Carrack on keys
If it is possible to set East London to music .

Thank you for the geographical correction."Annie Get Your Gun ."should have been a much bigger hit than it was .@@bipbippadotta3680
