I am proud to say I did backing vocals on this wonderful track; I know it's showing off but I am deeply proud to know Glenn all my life. Love you Glenn
What a great song from way back in 1989 when, even rhen, Squeeze had been going for well over a decade. Amazingly, they are still touring and performing wonderful songs that demonstrate why Difford and Tilbrook are such an accomplished lyricist and tunesmith.
Coming off "Babylon and On," "Frank" should have been a massive hit. Still can't figure how it vanished without barely a trace. Such gorgeous songs, like this one, and kicking off a string of phenomenal albums like "Play" and "Some Fantastic Place" that bizarrely vanished even quicker. The most underappreciated music of the late 80s and 90s.
ES UNA GRAN BANDA DE "CULTO" SQUEEZE Y ES VERDAD COMPOSICIONES TAN COMERCIALES COMO IF IT¨S LOVE ; EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD ; SOME FANTASTIC PLACE ; TRUST ME TO OPEN MY MOUTH ; STRICKING MATCHES ; IS THAT LOVE ; TEMPTED ; ANOTHER NAIL IN MY HEART ; PULLING MUSELLES ; COOL FOR CATS TODAS EXCELENTS CANCIONES, ES UNA LASTIMA QUE NO HAYAN LLEGADO MÁS ALTO PERO GRACIAS A INTERNET HOY DÍA NO PASAN DESAPERCIBIDOS
Love this album and it was soooo overlooked. Used to blast it on my stereo when I was 14. This was my first introduction... all thanks to Kerry Tucker for taking me further in to see what the definition of cool music really was! Got to see these guys when I was 17.. Front row seat (abeit by myself).
Just read the Squeeze "Song by Song" book--this song was originally called "if I'm dead", believe it or not. Their record company made them change it. Resulting song is excellent.
Incredibly arranged song. I wish there was a a video that did a split screen showing the bass and drums. The drums especially are out-this-world great!
SI KEITH WILKINSON ES UN CAPO EN EL BAJO - SU INSTRUMENTO DICE PRESENTE EN TODOS LOS ALBUMES DESDE COSSI FAN TUTTI FRUTTI DE 1985 HASTA RIDICOLOUS DE 1998 SEIS DISCOS IMPLECABLES DONDE EL BAJO ESTA BIEN ARRIBA EN LA MEZCLA - NADA QUE VER CON JOHN BENTLEY EL BAJISTA ANTERIOR
This absolutely should have been a MONSTER hit, but if it's remembered here in the US at all it's best known for having been used in a TV commercial for eHarmony.com. While that may be fitting in a way, I still think it's a damned shame.
I got this record when I was lost and lonely, arriving in Manchester from Australia at the end of '89 at the age of 26, hoping to make some music myself. At the time there was the huge explosion - a revolution almost - a great popular cultural discovery, in acid house, via the Happy Mondays, the Stone Roses and it all seemed to bloom under the bright sun of ecstasy. It was heartbreaking. It was cold. Squeeze was a comfort, but I knew it was the music of yesteryear. It was dinosaur and irrelevant. Just like I felt. So it was my partner. Of course I enjoyed the sweet melodies. Funny that just 8 years earlier they would have been big with the cool kids...maybe. My music was a bust..and I knew it. 808 state rehearsed in the next room...they were adored. I packed my bags and limped back to Australia, limited and shocked to my skin.

Perfectly captures those first giddy feelings of falling in love -- this song should have been a big hit for them.
That guitar at the beginning, then when that fretless bass comes in...lots of feels.
I have gone back and found some really great music from around 1980 to 1995 regarding Squeeze!
IGUALMENTE YO GRACIAS A INTERNET ESTA BANDA NO PASA DESPERCIBIDA
Squeeze, one of the great and vastly underrated British bands of the late 70’s and 80’s. Lots of fond memories of their music.
Their most underrated song. Hope they make the HOF sometime ...but not holding my breath
I suspect they'll admit Right Said Fred to HoF before Squeeze.
Such an under rated band who composed fantastic songs.
TOTALMENTE DE ACUERDO CON VOS - SQUEEZE IS A GREAT BAND -SALUDOS DESDE BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA 💪
Awesome, Karen!!!
Great video!!

Play was one of their best albums in my humble opinion, an underated classic😊
Love the Bass and Drums on this track!
Yes! See my comment above.
love this mans voice
Sounds just like Macca right?
So happy to find this video online! One of my favourites.
CONCUERDO CON VOS MUY BUEN VIDEO Y APARTE UNA GRAN CANCIÓN POP
what a fantastic tune
Best squeeze song and that is saying something.
British drummers are known for playing "behind the beat". This drumming is w-a-a-y behind the beat and it's incredibly addicting to listen to.
ES UN EXCELENTE BATERO GILSON LAVIS EL PULSO INDICADO PARA LA MUSICA DE GLIMOORE -DIFFORD -
my favorite Squeeze song of all time and I'd never seen the video
TEMÓN ABSOLUTO
Gets into my heart ❤️ and soul x
Great to see Jools back

I need to pick that up. I picked up XTC's Song Stories book because i wanted to know the story behind ever song. Really want to read the Squeeze one.
If im dead was also a great song , anyone know the lyrics?🙏

The final bridge & coda bring tears to my eyes
I love squeeze and I have this song on the best of on cd

The Brook and the Ford, are amongst the Worlds greatest song writers, why this wasn't a World wide hit I've no idea, pop perfection.
CONCUERDO CON VOS PERO GRACIAS A INTERNET AHORA SQUEEZE NO PASA DESAPERCIBIDO
AFFIRMATIVE!
"If it's love
Does it matter
If I'm thin
Or I'm fatter"
Classic lyrics in every Squeeze song!
If im dead off the frank extended demos album was also a great song ,anyone any idea of the lyrics?
Difford Tillbrook... Legends
LOL! Is that the Elvis Costello walk Glenn's doing there at the end?
あら~ このころ、ジュルスいたんだね~
