  • Everyone wants to know what the best mods are for their car and engine. People have different price ranges and budgets to be able to work on their car to make it perform the best that they have to work with. In this video I've tied together 5 of the best mods (In my opinion) for the average Joe who wants to do a few things to improve the performance of their 6.4 Hemi without breaking the bank. Most of these mods will need a tune like stated in the video for them to work well or at all! So keep that in mind when doing these mods to your ride!
    Feel free to leave your comments below with feedback and I'll do my best to reply! Thanks for watching!

    I build engines for a living. I've built and rebuilt hundreds of all makes and models(mostly V8). With only rare exceptions, catch cans do nothing but CATCH your money. I've torn down newer Hemi's with 100k+ miles and the intakes were clean. Keep your oil changed...with a QUALITY oil of the CORRECT viscosity and you'll not need one with these engines. Some of the older LS's NEEDED them but not really a "Hemi" problem due to their design and single valve design. It's "easy" to make an 11 second car...but that extra second will cost you a LOT of money and time. Most bolt on mods do very little over OEM design. Hemi's do NOT run a "Lot" hotter than other engines. Who makes this stuff up?

      5.7 Hemi. Added a catch can at 95k and at 105k i switched out the 5.7 intake manifold for a ported 6.4 manifold. I run fuel cleaner in my car every couple fill ups so my intake valves were pretty much spotless. But the old manifold and the intake runners in the heads were very caked up with oil I could only assume from the pcv valve. Regular oil changes, never more then 3,500 miles at the most. Whether the catch can works or not is up for debate, but to say hemis dont get gunked up with oul from the pcv is not true.

    • @Somethingisntright64
      @Somethingisntright64 4 месяца назад

      Right. I thought those PCV valves had a check valve. If the check valve is not stuck open it shouldn't suck oil into the intake.

  • @BigMack392
    @BigMack392 2 года назад +4

    An oil catch can is an absolute must. Most guys think that it's only needed for a direct-injected engine which the hemis are not. But that oil mist going from the PCV valve back into the intake is going to bake onto the intake valves and eventually degrade power. On my 392 I drain away about a 1/8 cup of oily fluid out of the can every 2000 miles, and that's just with street driving. Any aggressive driving will produce more blowby and more oil/water vapor out of the crankcase venting system. So go get that catch can kit and install it as soon as possible.

    I also did the mopar intake and it uses the open headlight and the air coming through the hood scoop. There is a tube that runs under hood from hood scoop to the top of airbox. When you close the hood it seals the box. Best intake I've had.

    Great Video Brotha 👍 Subscribed. Only thing I don’t agree with is the after market exhaust, that’s 1k-2k you can use for something worth it. (Like a Cam or Drop in Forged Rods & Pistons) Stock Cats and 3” Straight Pipe all the way thru is all you need on the 392 (Electric Cutouts if you want to burst some ear drums) Some people got more money to spend 🤷‍♂️ but the little power an exhaust adds is killed off by how much it weighs.

      that's my dilemma too.. I have a '19 392 RT...great warranty however I maintain my cars very well to the point having a warranty is useless unless I have a lemon. I already have the catch can, hellcat intake/throttle upgrade, no problems. In the works on getting that Borla ATAK exhaust and a tuner, not sure which one to pick though.

    It's funny when I hear people knock performance intake & exhaust investments. You may only receive 10-20 hp gains, but the throttle response gains you get gives you immensely explosive access to aaaaall that hp you already have.
    Add to that a high flowing exhaust, & you're shred'n tires in such manners that would make John Force peanut butter & JEEEEALOUS!

    I think the active exhaust on my 2016 scat sounds incredible, down shifting with the 6 speed gets the snap crackle pop that's awesome. I'm planning on getting the twin snorkel 2019 hellcat hood that has functional ram air tunneled right over the air box + mopar cold air that has the gasket to bottom side of hood.I really like the destroyer grey, would like to get a 6cyl awd charger in the grey for my commuter car, that way I would stop driving my baby back and forth to work racking up 80 miles a day.(just can't help my self, it's hard to go back to a hamburger when you got a taste for steak)

    Very informative video , I own a 2016 scat pack and would love to ad a catch can , but when you speak of a “ Tune” does that include the transmission ? and does tuning a transmission make any difference . I’m getting back into the car seen and most of these mods I have no or very little experience with . I’ve been watching video after video which is helping me get a list together . I know wider tires help these cars put the power down as these cars came with a narrow tire . Cheers

    That's a good list, the only thing i would add to it is a 180 degree thermostat Heat is the number one enemy of any engine. Kicking your fans on at 180 instead of 230 is going to make your car run much cooler therefore it stays in the power more consistently and prolongs the life of your engine. Also A good thermostat runs you any where from 30 to 50 bucks so they arent expensive

    What about rear end differential gear changes?? Going from a 3.09 to a 3.92 would be a big difference in acceleration. I have a Ram 1500 Hemi with the 8 speed and 3.92 locking differential (a must) and have surprised quite a few folks. The only other mod it has is a K&N filter. But seriously - gearing makes a difference. Also, if the driver loses weight, that helps :)

    I have a cold air intake that DOESN'T have a cover on the top. But when I close the hood, it fits perfectly and seals it. Is that okay? Also it sucks in air from down below kind of like what you got.

    I've been told that an oil catch can by some people is bad. Even though your intake and valves will gunk up, they're cleanable and it still lubricates the top of the cylinder walls. I still use a catch can on mine, but what are your thoughts? Have you heard about that before?
    Also, do you think a 2mm throttle body port would do anything without a tune?

      I've had my '15 Scat for almost 2 years now and love it! No exhausts or other mods yet because I've taken advantage of the factory powertrain and just want to wait to do anything. Long story short, got the hemi tick at 45k and got a brand new engine.
      I'm here because now I want more power! Lol
      I've gotten used to this 485 and ready to kick it up a notch. I've been considering the hellcat. 💪🏿 However, this is a GREAT car with good sound and power as is! Forewarning! If your foot is heavy, you'll stay at the pumps because it can guzzle! Lol

  • @saadatk1

    I completely agree with you 100% bro. I am getting a BBK 85mm throttle body with a Leg Maker TRUE cold air intake that goes down the fender and then getting a custom or dyno tune and I guarantee that I will end up gaining at least 25 or 30 WHP with incredible throttle response and shift points and the car will be in a different league. It will be fast enough and totally worth it. PS the ZF 8 speed Auto ROCKS i dont even freakin care what any one thinks about it. Thanks for the info it reinforced my ideas and plans.

    gain without a tune, ECMs have a range and are not fixed......

    • @donniechaffin6897
      @donniechaffin6897 4 года назад

      Exactly right. For example, I've read where the Hellcat airbox and a dirty filter will give you the same flow rate as the stock airbox and a new filter. The sensors and computer will work out these variances and you'll get adequate flow all the time with the Hellcat airbox (and probably many other CAIs). Why would you need a tune for a oil catch can? Until my car's warranty has expired, I'll stick to things I can undo.

    So not getting a tune as my car is a 2019. So I should not waste my time on a CAI, Borla cat back, and throttle body? I have a 1321 and no idea if I can even lower it without making it perform worse.
