This is lovely but I will never understand the lack of proper separation between the child's room and the parents. I understand it works now when the child is young, but imagine they are planning to move out when the child gets a bit older. It would be awkward for both the kid and the parents if they didn't lol
One thing they need to change is the stool for the kitchen/office area. Its is a bar height stool and they need counter height. You can see that she can't scoot her legs under the kitchen counter.
Yes... face palm. This is kind of a 'show' stool. We haven't found the perfect counter height stools yet (we've been thinking of making some, if we ever get time) - and we don't love the look of the ones that we have that are at the right height. We put these pretty vintage bar stools in for this, not thinking through how it would look when 'modelled'.

We find it comfortable, but it is definitely a 'firm' style. I can't stand sofas that hug you / swallow you up. Especially in the heat. One side is a bit too deep for just sitting on, but it's great to lounge about on / stretch out.

Very true. I think it's a shame, because I assume they have good intentions, but a house with its own driveway and then the rock garden, that's just not sustainable. Plus the gas cooker and a tumble dryer... I just think that's a shame. Sustainable living is possible and needs clever architecture, but ideally in a flat and with good infrastructure.
This home truly appeals to me. The fact that they own land means that their home is ample and the simplicity of the home is well crafted. Quite remarkable.
I have two extremely neat young children and even I am sweating bullets when looking at all the light-colored MDF, white fabric, and curtains in this place. Not to mention the hilarity of not having a wall between bedrooms with a child. I get families live in different ways but this feels *unsustainable* to me if they have to move when they realize that quietly having sex a few feet from “the baby” is not the same as quietly having sex a few feet from a full-on child 🤷♀️
The owner explained in a comment that the baby news arrived during the build and they had a nightmare changing plans. The plan was also to live in it a few years and build a second bigger house next to this one and have this be a granny flat for the grandparents. But the plans changed again apparently and they are overseas now
this is a visually beautiful space, and the sustainability element seemed to have been very well thought out. it does appear to deprioritize seating comfort as the built-in couch does not have side supports nor comfortable cushioning, and the stool seats appear too small for prolonged sitting and too high for ergonomic body movement to do work on. some comments mentioned the challenge of the parent/child room separation as the kid gets older, and i am also incredibly curious about that. how do you maintain privacy and intimacy in a romantic partnership when your child is essentially in the same room as you? how does your child maintain a level of privacy in later years? all in all a beautiful looking space, but as this is such a new home, i imagine (and hope) they will adjust certain elements of this space to give themselves the opportunity to be truly comfortable and relaxed.
A lot of people / culture do bedsharing until late. Intimacy (I assume you mean s*x) is not something that has to happen only in the bedroom and at night when your child is a meter away. There are many options 😂
Yes - modern OSB, especially in Australia uses non toxic adhesives, and it also looks like this has been sealed with the whitewash, and judging by the floors some kind of varnish as well.
Keeping all that stainless steal clean and polished in the kitchen must be a nightmare! I only have a couple of stainless appliances and it drives me to distraction 😂😂 I feel like the floor in front of the couch is crying out for a rug. Just go make it cosier.
Nice, but I'm not sure if the split-level house is safe for a toddler. Also, I'm so distracted by the height of the 2 bar stools at the kitchen and study. Should they be a tad lower?
Toddlers learn to move around quickly if you let them practice supervised when they themselves want to start to learn. I had three kids and a lot of stairs in the house.
@Mike-er2ih For practical reasons, stainless kitchen is easier to clean. A "wet kitchen" where you can hose down the floor and scrub it would be ideal. Some houses have that aside from a standard kitchen. Prep and cooking of food with strong scent would be done in the wet kitchen 😊
I do not believe one second that a family lives there 24/7. They have an appartment in the city, or the husband just visits this house and stays near work. This looks entirely like a vacation/weekend home. Edit: I actually tracked her husband down and he's often working between multiple international locales. This is probably just where this woman lives alone with her child. Which also, seems just unplanned for the space, so many sharp corners and edges, and a room which.. 'could be a luxurious and extravagant wardrobe'... she definitely had different plans for the house.

I love it! Congrats to the owner and designer for making this eco-friendly and at the same time full of personality! The kitchen looks very functional, although the hight of that bar stool is not right. And the shower area is also smart and easy to use. The only things I would change is I would add a door between the bedroom of the parents and the bedroom of the child for privacy and more comfort, and I would make the floor in the deck so it has no holes: that egg breaking on it in the end made me worry about how you would clean that if it falls through under the floor :D

It's a shame that a lot of our beautiful historical buildings have been lost, we (the government) do not seem to respect our (short, colonised) history as much as other countries do. You are absolutely right, we have some gorgeous heritage architecture that should be protected. As for innovation... yes, if you have money! I wish it were accessible for the average person. such a thoughtfully designed house and calmly narrated ... this just goes to show that you need just enough space if it is set in such a pretty and open spot.
That egg drop at the end reminded me of my kids at the same age... Godo thing we had about 20 chickens so the odd smashed egg really didn't matter... About the house I find the walls are a bit drab I would have more art on the walls or splashes of colour, but that is me!
What a lovely layout! Especially the couch. However, that wood material all over the walls makes the place look so unfinished. Paint would go a long way to making this space look more complete.
In the LG ad you forgot to add that they also spy on you and sell your data unless you manually go to settings and turn off the "sell my data" option haha
Thanks for bringing the series back down under. Love this tiny footprint bungalow, hard to believe it’s only 42sqm. I always love when a small space is made to look larger with different vertical planes. 42sqm does little to the imagination on one floor level. Not a fan of OSB but I think it may have been a budgeting decision. OSB can be brittle on its edges and those metal angles to trim them off look quite sharp and nasty. But otherwise love it!
I also find the protrusion of the metal cornering to be a bit of an uncomfortable element to step on, but that’s really only because I’m so into everything else
It's really well designed, but i wonder how isolated those pleated windows are. It seems like they would be even less isolating than single plane glass windows. I notice a lot of australian builds have really bad isolation. It stuns me, cause it's the best defense against heat (and the colder winter months).
The louvred glass windows are very common in South East Asia and other tropic/semi-tropic countries. As long as it does not get too cold, insulation is not a problem. Ceiling fans are another way of keeping interiors cool and for air circulation. A wide portico also prevents heat from coming inside.
This is a good small house design, using the ground slope well and thought has gone into what the clients need. I'd want it better insulated + fewer window openings for the climate where I live.
In all the scenes of the kitchen counter I really think the right side is size- edited-- like the three plates under the bowl of eggs look way stretched out xD 13:28
I have so many questions... What was done to the house to fire proof it? Those trees are awfully close to the main structure and based on the photos taken during construction the house seems to be mainly build from wood. Also, having lived at that part of Australia I wonder how they get rid of moisture during winter? It rains a lot up there and everything gets damp and mouldy and those louver windows while good for ventilation during summer are terrible when it comes to insulation.
This is lovely but I will never understand the lack of proper separation between the child's room and the parents. I understand it works now when the child is young, but imagine they are planning to move out when the child gets a bit older. It would be awkward for both the kid and the parents if they didn't lol

That egg drop at the end reminded me of my kids at the same age... Godo thing we had about 20 chickens so the odd smashed egg really didn't matter...
About the house I find the walls are a bit drab I would have more art on the walls or splashes of colour, but that is me!
I hate the plywood walls and ceiling so much. Love everything else about it
It's not plywood. It's OSB (Oriented Strand Board) which is better than plywood and less expensive.
@@MTMF.londonosb is worse
Any concerns about the many sharp corners with a kid? We used to pad corners to avoid injuries to rambunctioius kids.
Absolutely beautiful!
Loved the egg crack at the end 😂
What a lovely layout! Especially the couch. However, that wood material all over the walls makes the place look so unfinished. Paint would go a long way to making this space look more complete.
Epic final.
In the LG ad you forgot to add that they also spy on you and sell your data unless you manually go to settings and turn off the "sell my data" option haha
I love this space.
Lovely and open. I do wonder how it will work as the family grows older though
They could probably add a new structure if/when needed.
@@rowaystarco I think she said that the nursery would be a great walk-in closet one day, so an extension is probably in the future.
Wow this space is beautiful!!!! Love everything about it!
looove the chicken laying the egg under the rosemary 🐔💕
It's really well designed, but i wonder how isolated those pleated windows are. It seems like they would be even less isolating than single plane glass windows.
I notice a lot of australian builds have really bad isolation. It stuns me, cause it's the best defense against heat (and the colder winter months).
Do you mean insulated instead of isolated? Those windows definitely would not work here in Canada!
Женщина выглядит счастливой, это уже главный показатель удачного строительства!
La cocina, la sala y la recamara tienen perfecta relación con la terraza. El secreto: localiza tu punto fuerte y haz que todo suceda alrededor.
Absolutely beautiful home. Its been mentioned already but I would need bedrooms with walls for privacy.
Is Frida Kahlo in the circle artwork?? Love it!!
Beutifual place, it look very cosy and comfortable.
