I remember this team. I also like their previous works on NTS. The copper joinery is very clever but at the same time lends warmth to the room as opposed to the usual mirror. Well done.
I was surprised how much you managed to fit into a 27 sq m room. In the video it looks like a big room but in reality it is small. We had been living in a 30 sq m studio for a while and all we could fit in there was a wardrobe, a bed, a tiny sofa, a small refrigerator, a TV stand (which we used as a kitchen unit) and a small closet with a sink on top and all the household items inside. We were lucky that we didn't need winter clothes there because there would have been nowhere to put them. That apartment was more like a hotel room in size.
In Japan there are cheap services that will take and store your winter clothes and vice versa when the seasons change, maybe we need something like that elsewhere.
The pop of colors were unexpected. I do love them. Such a minimalistic look but also has a fun touch to it. Best part: Bathroom has a window 🙀 I am very old-fashioned in that regard.
@@lukthere2 we have two bathrooms. Ensuite has a window, hallway bathroom has none. It can be done with a skylight, not really popular where I am. Bloody electricity prices! we need a ceiling light turned on for 2/3 of daylight hours.
@@TeeBoyd88 I’m not sure why transom windows are no longer used. But a long time ago there was an oblong window (transom) above all the interior doors so light can be let in while the door was closed. Placing mirrors in a correct way can also bring more light into a space. I have a very dark kitchen and the closest window doesn’t let a lot of light in but the mirror I have placed on this particular wall reflects the light and allows more natural light in. Seems to happen a bit more lately but losing electricity at night can be frustrating. So, I have 6 solar lights that I have charging during the day and at night I can have a light in all needed rooms when needed. There are so many solar lights to choose from and ways to display them so they don’t look like a solar light. Just a thought.
It's basically just a tiny room, doesn't really feels like an apartment. Yet, the team has done a superb job fitting and arranging everything into a sensible layout. Simple but still has a feature piece! Great job!
The copper joinery is definitely the star of the space. I really like how it extends the kitchen window, making it seem so much longer than it actually is, bringing so much more light into the space.
I usually don't comment but this is a masterpiece! I can't believe its only 29sqm. This copper mirror is so unique and clever. The whole design is so fun and light at the same time. I looooove it!
It looks great and I love the concealed entry, for me the cleaning of the mirrored finish would make it a big no personally. Appreciate the honesty about this being an AirBNB for the majority of the time as well.
I don’t think the mirrored finish is as big of a cleaning deal because you’re mainly interacting with a small part of the doors. You would never be cleaning the entire surface regularly. I have an appliance in stainless steel I thought would be terrible to keep shiny, but as I only touch a few buttons I only have to polish a limited surface.
Eu mudaria muitas coisas.
Amazing work Hidy and Jack! Even though it was a small apartment we did come across a number of challenges given the building was constructed in the 1970's but we worked well as a team to overcome these issues. The final result speaks for itself. Well done! 👏👏👏
The copper joinery is so beautiful and make the space more elegant. The bathroom is also very pretty. Consider the space is very limited, this is a very well thought design.
Considering they were working with 27 sm2, they did wonderfully. The video did not show the storage space for shoes, which I assume is somewhere near the entrance door. I especially liked their solution for the "two people being in different meetings at the same time" problem, which I used to have with my ex when we both worked from home. With slight tweaks to the kitchen area, I would live 100% of the time in such place. But considering the limitations - it's a temporary home for someone who does not cook, the architects took the right decision to simplify the kitchen.
The copper pod, is superb, and so too it the general layout of the apartment. The mirrored floor under the cabinets really extends the visual impact. As a minimalist, I really resonate with this design throughout. Excellent job!
Full marks for the cork flooring. The kitchen is so seamless, I didn’t even see it at first. Great example of a hero piece of joinery, incorporating the bathroom. And as usual, the high production values of the video sets NTS well above other interiors videos.
This has to be the most successful version of this kind of small space solution, the finishes are so good. Really smart to use that mirrored kickboard, the way the kitchen is seamless works so nicely. And the bathroom was so cozy! So many really great solutions I absolutely love it
The copper wall was nothing but Brilliant!! It looks magical, I first thought it was some sort of transparent screen or something. What a cleaver idea...!!
Love that mirror finish copper joinery so much. Unlike others - the chance of finger print marks on the mirrored finish would not worry me at all. The curtaining of the sleeping area looks stylish and functional.
That's a really cool and original idea, it does have a really elegant look. The bathroom door opening directly into the toilet and also facing the bed looks a bit off to me, maybe switching the toilet and shower position or just finding a different spot for the door would have been nicer. The bed area just looks a little less refined from the rest of the apartment. But that couch is a really good concept, it could also just double as a spare bed and I like the swinging doors, really helps when there is less space. It would actually be nice if the people would discuss the difficulties they had with the project and how that influenced the final result.
If yall design and manufacture those mirror pods, I could see myself purchasing such a space for use on multiple properties. It's a good design with a refined, harmonious esthetic that balances into whatever unit it's placed in. Well done.
Well done for such a small space. Having a laundry service in the building is really helpful. Like this small space because it is all in one floor with a proper bed. Great use of the copper mirror.
I really like how they worked color into the storage, not to mention the copper joinery, so that the place isn't so stark. The cork floors are another great trick to soften the feel of the place and bring in a natural touch. Overall, an impressive use of a small space. My one qualm would be that no one can use the toilet when the foldout desk is down, but I suppose that would just be a relatively minor inconvenience if the desk isn't used often.

Absolutely gorgeous! That copper unit is inspired. But the folding wall desk drives me crazy - having to clear it and fold it down every time someone needed to access the bathroom would do my head in!
I think it's temporary for when the couple needs to have separate meeting space, like when they have calls at the same time. Otherwise there's enough space so they can both work at the kitchen table. It does help that this is a temporary dwelling, I agree that if a separate and more permanent working station is needed, the way it's designed is impractical.
Loved this !! I can actually picture myself living here like the kitchen space with the natural light of windows and the storage and the mirror effect they have created doesn't make it look small.
This is an elegant division and use of space. The doubled duty sofa is brilliant. I think seat height adjustments will need to be accounted for when dining seating is activated at the sofa. A series of cushion prop ups would make this sofa-dining table configuration more ergonomic.
The only thing I don't understand is why they chose to have the kitchen sink next to the reflective copper surface. I have a 21sqm apartment built in the 1940s here in Sweden, with a stock "kitchen cabinet". The sink positioned very similarly and you'd be amazed of how much water hits the wall.
Everything about this copper cube would be a nightmare to keep clean and smudge-free. I do house cleaning for a living and shudder to think about trying to keep this place shiny.

Lovely to see what you've done with this small studio apartment! Opting for copper certainly makes it outstanding! Glad to note you chose block-out curtains for the bedroom area.
Amazing and thoughtful use of space...all of the finishes and layout create seamless transitions throughout and bring a lightness & airiness to the apartment. The curved edges allow the eye to travel easily throughout. I love that the toilet was rendered separately from the rest of the bathroom and with a pivot door; essential element. I also love all of the soundtracks NTS posts with their videos; they create such a special ambiance.
Only things I would do differently is instead of a curtain, have translucent glass separation and a sliding glass door for the bedroom. Also put the sofa closer to the tv, so that I could have a proper dining table at the back with soft plaid chairs. But other than, wouldn't change much as this is a beautifully made apartment.
Ok wow! This is so good. I love how considered all the transitions are between spaces. The copper joinery makes the space look so large. It’s hard to believe it houses so much behind it.
That copper cladding is very striking. I live in the area and have spent a lot of time looking at similar apartments and am amazed how much this one central design feature transforms an otherwise very ordinary space. I actually love the contrast between the soft curtain divider and the warm copper. The way the mirrored finish plays on the mind to extend the area is also very clever. And the diffused light above and below is all it needs. Only downside is how limited the kitchen is, that's something I can't abide.
No upper cabinet in the kitchen, just a wide open space gives a feeling of massive elbow room. But warm enclosure, not as intense as the Farnsworth House Illinois. The bed space is always ready for a rest.
I think the curves in furniture and builds in the apartment makes is warm and soft on the eyes. What a clever design for hidden storage, but I think you have to be very disciplined to keep the apartment clean and looking spacious like this! It makes sense that they don’t stay at this apartment long and often travel, it definitely can’t house people who are not two busy working adults haha!
You got a ton of usefulness into the pod. Couldn’t live with a reflective surface like that, or any huge mirrors, for so many reasons. Would flip the location of the living space and the kitchen as the TV is not part of life but looking outdoors while relaxing is so important.
The only thing I would change is the bed, I would put a wall bed to hide it and maximize the space. The illusion of multiplying the space with the mirror wall is amazing.
@@wendyannh New one are very beautiful, solid and we'll made. You can hide them in the ceiling, in the wall etc... That's my personal taste since the space is small and most of the time you don't need the bed. You gain more space and the place looks even bigger.
Lovely finish. However, not being able to stand and gaze out of the window, relaxed with a drink (I think the kitchen acts as a "barrier" in it's new position) would detract from it's functionality for me. I would have worked hard to keep the lounge area being able to enjoy that huge window.
I'm a total fan of white. I find copper unit distracting. I like it reflective but i'd like it white to blend in with the living area rather than stand out in the space. Personal taste on mh part. Great design layout-wise. G Ire
This is why I watch this channel, for inspo as I love fitting out studio apartments. I’m about to do my third, all of them incidentally are based in st kilda also! So I adore that something so pertinent to why I watch is also located here! I even know the building as I’ve nearly bought studios in there over the years! Love it!
i like it because it gives the illusion of a bigger window by reflecting the light and doubling the perceived width of the window. it also gives an opportunity to have a lot of indirect light, which always looks good in a small space. i hope its built well because it looked like she was having a hard time operating the doors at some point, and there was an issue i noticed with the way the bathroom tiles were laid. one thing i liked was at first glance, the kitchen is almost invisible, and yet it seems functional. an obvious kitchen makes a small space look messy or uninviting, and the pod helped conceal some of the kitchen necessities such as overhead storage.
I agree. It's an awful clash of colour. Misplaced. Should have been silver to complement the silver finishes of the rest of the apartment. Notice the grey sofa. Terrible colour palette of an amateur design lacking visual sophistication.
I thought... no way American lifestyles could use this, then you proved me wrong! I absolutely love the copper accent, your color choices, and the functionality of every piece.
If I were to create a similar apartment, I would use a matte finish. You would still get a bold piece of furniture in the middle of the space, but with a finish that hides dust and fingerprints. I also wouldn't bother with a mirrored kickboard under the copper, since it will get damaged over time.
what I like about this studio is the middle couch with the movable backrest - doubles as a sofa for living area and seat for dining space. the copper mirror finish isn't for me. I just wish the bedroom space could be interchanged with the bath area, thereby giving more privacy for the bedroom as you enter the unit. Overall, designing a small face is tricky and they have managed to make it uncluttered with some flexibility and minimal furniture conversion.
At first I thought: "oh no, the window is blocked", but then the old floorplan was shown and the way the light travels now is just so much better thanks to the reflective surface of the cabinets. I love the interesting couch with double functionality, it definitely adds to the homey feel integrating it into the dining area as well. I do find the study placement a bit odd, especially after having said it'd be a comfortable place to work from home. Working from home from tiny nook near the darkest part of your home and right in front of/blocking the bathroom is not exactly a comfortable working environment, even if it's just for a meeting.
Really like this! So elegant, I especially like the different colours for each space, its subtle and effective in changing the space. Only thing I don’t like is the door opening to the toilet being next to the head of the bed
This is a very well done space. So pretty and functional. Love the shower with the terra cotta tiles. The lovely big window in the kitchen brings light in and provides a lovely view as well. Love this small apartment.
That copper joinery is everything. Usually these boxes are great in theory but ugly in practice. This one is an objet d'art in its own right! The only no-no for me is white walls. I would use terracotta in the bedroom and pink in the living room. And yes I have that at home.
I'm really surprised how so many people think that's clever apartment idea. How to get to the dishwasher or microwave when someone is eating + how to use the toilet when the other person is having a meeting in the corridor. Way better place for the desk would be to attach foldable desk to the wall on bed or next to the living room couch. This apartment can work only for one person. Also (my personal thoughts) I liked previous kitchen/bathroom more than big copper block in the middle of apartment. It's really massive and takes big part of the apartment space.
They did really well with this!!! There’s some things I would’ve done slightly differently if it was for myself but they made great use of the space and it seems to suit the clients’ needs and preferences well. I know mirrors/reflective surfaces help brighten and open up a room but surely I can’t be the only one who thinks they’re kind of spooky at night 😅
It was the tiniest hardest room we have ever worked on. A huge thank you to Damien, Johnny and Angelo. Who worked tirelessly to transfer this place into what it is. Sometimes even changing the plans on the go. Alot of fun, sweat and tears. But the results speak for themselves. And a small thank you to Charbel 😂
Very clever! Personally I feel like that copper thing looks like it takes up space - like having an unignorable elephant in the room with you constantly. But that's probably just me. Tucking it into the corner more completely might make me feel less like there's a giant object in the room taking up space I want gone or something. But if it works for you, love it.
Nice bedsit! I would dispense with the settee as its too low for dining. A couple of lounge chairs and a dual height coffee to dining table would be a better option in my opinion.
this is so utterly gorgeous and clever. I'd happily live there. The only things I would want to be different is to move the sink away from the copper cupboard to make it practical for doing dishes by hand. In such a small kitchen, I would not want to allocate precious space to a dishwasher but I do understand that most people would prefer one so dirty dishes are left out. I would simply have to be more disciplined about doing the dishes and keeping bench clear. The only other thing is that I would introduce a rug infront of the sofa for warmth and colour and I would need books and paintings on display in the cosy sitting area. But otherwise, I think it is amazing what they did with 27m2. I'd love to use the mirrored copper for my wardrobes in my sitting room to extend the sense of space and reflect the window...... bravo!!!!

This is wonderful use of such a small space. The use of reflective copper gives lovely warmth. Well done.
Yes, given it's only used a few months a year.
Those aren’t very comfortable, though, and no one would want to sleep on one for months on end.
@@wendyannh New one are very beautiful, solid and we'll made.
You can hide them in the ceiling, in the wall etc...
That's my personal taste since the space is small and most of the time you don't need the bed.
You gain more space and the place looks even bigger.
@@winstonchurchill571 Very much an individual choice.
wow, just wow, one of the smartest use of space I have ever seen
Lovely finish. However, not being able to stand and gaze out of the window, relaxed with a drink (I think the kitchen acts as a "barrier" in it's new position) would detract from it's functionality for me. I would have worked hard to keep the lounge area being able to enjoy that huge window.
I'm a total fan of white. I find copper unit distracting. I like it reflective but i'd like it white to blend in with the living area rather than stand out in the space. Personal taste on mh part. Great design layout-wise. G Ire
Definitely one of the best project I’ve seen on NTS - great job!!
This is why I watch this channel, for inspo as I love fitting out studio apartments. I’m about to do my third, all of them incidentally are based in st kilda also! So I adore that something so pertinent to why I watch is also located here! I even know the building as I’ve nearly bought studios in there over the years! Love it!
I just love his work! The space is so efficiently used, it's awesome!

I am surprised that everyone loves the copper pod. I think it looks interesting, but I find it overwhelming and jarring in such a small space.
i like it because it gives the illusion of a bigger window by reflecting the light and doubling the perceived width of the window. it also gives an opportunity to have a lot of indirect light, which always looks good in a small space. i hope its built well because it looked like she was having a hard time operating the doors at some point, and there was an issue i noticed with the way the bathroom tiles were laid. one thing i liked was at first glance, the kitchen is almost invisible, and yet it seems functional. an obvious kitchen makes a small space look messy or uninviting, and the pod helped conceal some of the kitchen necessities such as overhead storage.
I agree. It's an awful clash of colour. Misplaced. Should have been silver to complement the silver finishes of the rest of the apartment. Notice the grey sofa. Terrible colour palette of an amateur design lacking visual sophistication.
I agree. I hate it. I feel like it's an alien ship crowding out a tiny space.
And why are they calling it a "joinery", is that Australian?
Thank you for stating your opinion. You are however incorrect
@@ArianeRose-h2z Silver would look god awful
Love this apartment!
I thought... no way American lifestyles could use this, then you proved me wrong! I absolutely love the copper accent, your color choices, and the functionality of every piece.
wow this on was actually amazingly thoughtful and well designed.
Honestly this is amazing how u turned a shoebox into apartment, so welcoming and cosy.😊
i would get crazy keeping those mirrors clean
I bet there's some mirrors in your house now that aren't perfect... ;)
One of my faves. The copper joinery is a luxe touch.
This is so so COOL one of the most fascinating small spaces i've ever seen
Ooh, this is jam-packed with brilliant ideas.
This is the nicest studio apartment I’ve seen.
Magnificent view from the window! Bravo to the designers👏
That couch is so smartly designed, I need it so bad!
Living space for two would be a stretch but certainly perfectly generous space as a short term bolt hole or overnight let.
A study in the narrow hallway while facing the door where you poop is uhhh that.
that copper pod I believe is a fingerprint magnet...... looks kinda nice but will be nightmare to a lazy person like me 😂😂
If I were to create a similar apartment, I would use a matte finish. You would still get a bold piece of furniture in the middle of the space, but with a finish that hides dust and fingerprints. I also wouldn't bother with a mirrored kickboard under the copper, since it will get damaged over time.
haha I thought the same!😂 it looks beautiful though and really smart design overall
Masterfully designed. These two are real artists
what I like about this studio is the middle couch with the movable backrest - doubles as a sofa for living area and seat for dining space. the copper mirror finish isn't for me. I just wish the bedroom space could be interchanged with the bath area, thereby giving more privacy for the bedroom as you enter the unit. Overall, designing a small face is tricky and they have managed to make it uncluttered with some flexibility and minimal furniture conversion.
Fantastic job on this tiny space. Love the windows that span the entire kitchen counter. Didn't know I want that someday, but now I do.
My micro apartment in Canada is 300 sq ft and I absolutely love it! It's the perfect size!
Literally one of the mosr beautifully done studios out there. It looks very futuristic and huge. Very well done 🤎
Absolutely love this apartment!
So that’s what a call a tiny home! Fabulous ❤
Really like this! So elegant, I especially like the different colours for each space, its subtle and effective in changing the space. Only thing I don’t like is the door opening to the toilet being next to the head of the bed
This is such a fresh design for such a small space!
The perfect place for a Murphy-bed-solution i.m.o.. Along with the dining table and chair the bed kind of disrupts the design alignment.
This is beautifully done, i love the pops of colour inside the copper unit ❤
the two designres are proper magicians!!
This is a very well done space. So pretty and functional. Love the shower with the terra cotta tiles. The lovely big window in the kitchen brings light in and provides a lovely view as well. Love this small apartment.
Those tiles are ugly.
That copper joinery is everything. Usually these boxes are great in theory but ugly in practice. This one is an objet d'art in its own right!
The only no-no for me is white walls. I would use terracotta in the bedroom and pink in the living room. And yes I have that at home.
It's gorgeous. I would love something like this with one exception,I need a full fridge and freezer.
That great feature is so iconic and dependable. 🥰🥰
This one is especially well thought through. What an excellent use of such a small space. Very well segmented.
i love how you get to study facing a toilet when required
I'd love to use the mirrored copper for my wardrobes in my sitting room to extend the sense of space and reflect the window...... bravo!!!!
Zoom calls while sitting on the toilet are now a reality😂
🤣
I love this apartment. Absolutely STUNNING!
