this guy's organizational skills are on another level! He's quite a maximalist with minimalist aesthetics. But every object in his flat has its place and serves several purposes, which is not always the case for everyone
pretty sure i saw this guy's apartment when he was was just done renovating it and he had one of those electric looking fireplaces in his lounge. doesn't appear to be there anymore. his washer and dryer were also in another location before.
No way this is my uncle!! So glad to see his place revisited again with an updated tour. Seeing it in person is even more incredible, he's an amazing collector and always has a story to share behind every piece of art, furniture and design aspect I pointed out while visiting him. He's my inspiration as i'm starting my first year in design! :)
Really ? Your uncle is amazing at designing space . I was in awe of his entire apartment. Very efficient use of space and that outdoor plant wall ❤❤❤ I love it ! You have a mentor for your study program. Lucky you . Please tell him , his apartment is beautifully decorated and designed. I thoroughly enjoyed the video 👍👍👍
Lol reveal the space, so delightful. He illustrates to me a property buyers unique skill preference, only sometimes seen in Realty. Thank you. ❤ Melbourne
Loved hearing Daniel speak in depth about the small details of his home. You can tell he doesn’t collect things for the sake of owning them there is always a purpose or story
Omg is his name Daniel(?) - that's so lovely... I kept thinking he is like I would want to be... so meticulous and organised and my sons name is Daniel. I have always liked the name Daniel 😅
I saw this home on RUclips 4 years ago on this very channel, back when it was all shiny and new. So glad to see how it has grown and evolved and how the person living there has evolved too!
Yeah!!! I KNEW I’d seen this before! Thought I was going crazy! 😂 (original vid is listed. just open up the description on the video ^ (tap the “…more”) and scroll down a bit 👍🏽)
This guy can come and design my space any time! What an amazing amount of smart, practical and beautifully designed areas in every corner of his home! He’s really thought through his personal needs for every aspect of his life and created a home that is truly special and inspiring. This episode is my favourite so far this year!
This small space is by far the most intricately designed on this channel and I loved it! I love simple and minimal design but this does not look one bit cluttered despite having so many art pieces and items around. Every nook and cranny is not wasted and being utilized so well with his hacks. Creativity at its finest 🎉
None of this would work for me. But if it works for him that’s awesome! Having a very low to the floor coffee table, for instance, seems absurd to me. But I don’t have to live there.
I remember watching him in one of NTS early days episodes and loved how his home is even more curated and personalised now. There is something very soothing about his voice and his modern bespoke home..❤
My jaw keep dropping every 5 seconds watching this video: the Ikea hook wine storage! The washer tucked away under the vanity! So many other little details! So much love and care was clearly put into this home. ❤
That wine storage using hooks is great idea, but side of fridge might not be good place for it - my fridge is heating on sides and I would end up with mulled wine 🙃
Typically NTS videos are less than 10 minutes - but man was this video worth every extra second. Loved the ideas, loved how in tune the architect is with his space and loved the look and feel of the space. WOW!!
I love how honest he is about the place and how things change and may evolve in the future. Also, we dont often get to see a person owning a lot of things and I am very happy to see that living in a small space does not mean having to get rid of everything you have and that theres a lot of ways to live in a space no matter what you do for a living, the hobbies you have or the things you collect. Theres a lot of great solutions here and I felt very happy when he spoke about the place above his wardrove having suitcases and christmas decorations, because we all have that, we dont access frecuently to it and its a great place to save all that and he uses the high of the apartment to work in its favour. Amazing video 👏👏👏👏👏
19:23 I absolutely LOVE THIS tour! He seems like such a cool person, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such intense attention to details and storage! And the art integration with the apartment was phenomenal!
Daniel Dorall's Melbourne apartment is a stunning example of how creativity and meticulous planning can transform even the smallest spaces! 🌟 It’s impressive how he has managed to organize and display his extensive art and book collection without making the space feel cluttered. The space-saving hacks, like the versatile IKEA hook and the hidden pull-out dish rack drawer, are brilliant and truly showcase his innovative approach to design. I’m especially fascinated by the hidden home studio he’s created in the ceiling space-what a clever use of every inch! 🛠📚 This apartment is not just a home but a well-thought-out masterpiece. Kudos to Dorall for turning his living space into such an efficient and inspiring environment! 👏🏽🏠
If apartments in the States were designed like THIS apartment - with high ceilings and huge windows for light - then sure, living in 450 square feet might be doable for many. But here, most apartments are just hastily slapped together boxes with no form or function, little light, little insulation, very little quiet, and very little charm. Daniel has really made his place cozy, gorgeous, and oh so livable! I just love how everything is curated so specifically, and with such an eye for detail. I also love how he "thinks outside the box" when it comes to the use of IKEA items; who says you can't make your place look beautiful on a budget?! This is really one of my favorite apartments that I've seen on NTS/YT! **saves**
I very much enjoyed this ‘casual interview’ format, a homeowner talking about his space and its personal impact. it’s a good contrast to your usual architect/designer presentations. NTS should do these more often!
I love how he displays his different types of paintings and art objects, and how he shares tips and affordable products from Ikea that ordinary people can buy and make their homes look tasteful. Thanks and well done!
Loyal viewer of this channel and I have to say, this is definitely one of my favorite spaces thus far...Completely HIS OWN. I think most modern/minimalistic spaces go for a more typical templated look & style, but it ends up looking like a copy/paste Scandinavian design inspired home that we've seen on these kinds of channels a billion times. It's a nice aesthetic, but lacks personality and tells me nothing about the particular interests of its owner other than the fact that they like minimalism. However, this space, is unique and truly stands out because every inch has been crafted to represent an interest or extension of the owner...How it should be. Kudos to this man!
Yes, it's nice to see how the space is actually used by the person living there, and the tweaks made over time to make it more functional. Whenever I see the architect tours of a new space, the design is usually impressive, but then you start wondering - yeah, but where do they put their toaster? or vacuum? and other practical things like that, which aren't necessarily aesthetic. This really gets into a lot of those little solutions that make a huge difference when you're actually using the space.
A bit maximalist for my taste, but what I really appreciate with this example is how attainable it is. Lots of DIY solutions and Ikeahacks. You can tell the flat organically grew to what it is over many years instead of being a space that was created by professionals within a few weeks.
It’s so funny how many viewers of this channel find this maximalist. I’ve seen some apartment therapy videos of people’s spaces in New York and the amount of stuff some people have and display, is just overwhelming. To me this place feels very well curated and because it focuses so much on the art, it doesn’t feel so maximalist to me.
@@notjustirene I know, right...curated is a beautiful way to put it...not just some mass produced niff noff from a home decor big box store but art, lovingly curated, from one human soul to another.
This is easily my favourite NTS space I've seen. All of the integrated storage is just swoon-worthy and to have it done in such an aesthetically pleasing way is marvellous. Truly beautifully done.
It made me happy to see Asian sensibilities along side technical expertise. From the ad hoc clothes rail, re-purposed Ikea hooks, to the ingenious ventilation/leg cut out. This home seems like such an embodiment of Daniel himself!
I love Daniel's space, style and values! I really appreciate that he went into detail about his storage hacks and how he turns minimal into maximal by using the available space in a clever way. He also shows that you can have beautiful things in small environment. The key is to invest in quality, long lasting items. Thanks so much Daniel for sharing!
I love it, personally I find it quite spacious, beautifully curated with much loved objects. This is a home that has evolved, owned by a creative, practical individual with very good taste.
Thank the host with so much smile on the face for the owner to feel so comfortable to share all the unique features he has in this lovely home! The ikea hook is a genius idea!
0:43 When a chair becomes an art collection in your wall ❤ Absolutely love it! 👏 Love the upstairs study, love the windows, love the light, love the view, love his deep voice 😁
Does anyone have an idea of the reference for this chair? I would be very interested. It looks like Hay's result chair but it seems they didn't produce a folding chair.
I love all the small tricks to organize space and also all the little details that show that he really lives in and really enjoys his appartment. One of the best videos for a while to me ! Minimalists is not meant for everyone and sometimes a bit boring
I love the time taken to explore all his storage ideas. I can feel his love and satisfaction with this space because it's his home. So often these small spaces are architecturally amazing but don't have the detail of homes.
I’m a 53yr old brand/web/designer/artist/minimalist and have lived alone all my adult life - and wouldn’t change it for anything or anyone. This unit was a great find, and Daniel has done just amazing rework with such ingenious considerations. Design is such a powerful tool. Greetings to all from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪.
I often think I would like a bit of land with a small home and workshop, but when Daniel said he’s a city person, no need for a car & all the convenience - so good! And the way he’s utilising his small space makes me rethink 👏🏼 Oh how I love & miss Melbourne!
Finally a well crafted flat with smart and elegant solutions, grounded and cost-efficient. Not a fan of the concrete island, but it does have its place with the owner's aesthetic. Well done.
Love this home! Walls full of paintings, comfy couch and furniture and full of stuff. For those of us who aren’t, amd will never be, minimalists this was a treat.
I follow this channel for years now and remember the appartment from the first video but THIS!? This is hands down the best I have seen on NTS. Just Jawdropping beautiful!
I adore Daniel's home and feel so drawn to the way he talks about his collections and the love he has for objects and the stories behind them. I am the same, I collect artwork and also am a lover of thrifting and collecting objects from my travels. So seeing how Daniel has curated his loved objects while still keeping a light, bright and clean aesthetic with visual interest is so inspiring!
The studio part was insane. How much he improved the perceived space with the combination of fake skylight, mirror and window into the living room below is genius.
The owner is so inspiring! How he carefully describes all his belongings really charms. Love some of the ideas. The bathroom is the best, top of the list
This guy is such a sweetheart, and the home is so cleverly designed in the smallest details. Love the door mural and the secret office space above the bathroom. The only thing I'd change is to add something to the ceiling like an round mural above the sofa or an artistic room divider to create more cosiness in the open area.
Saw the apartment a few years back and loved it. Happy to see it again & to find out the owner is still happily living there. Great aesthetic & functionality.
It has always been one of my favorite NTS apartments. Now it's even better. The new studio space was one of those fantastic discoveries. Excellent use of every corner. Congrats❤
This place is fabulous. It doesn’t feel tiny at all. I don’t often say this about the tiny spaces on this channel, but every room has more than enough storage space. Even the kitchen.
Yes! A kitchen that I actually believe someone regularly cooks in! Some of the kitchens on this channel have little to no room for storing dry goods, cookware, etc., let alone additional dinnerware for serving guests. This one was a real, live, full functional kitchen!
Oh my God, it was quite an experience, watching this tour! I really like the fact that he designed everything for his personal use and didn't care about what people could think (for example the different ways of using Ikea hooks!). Well done!
His very own little at gallery... He made it completely his by being surrounded with everything which brings him joy and represents himself. Love that for him! ❤
Small? This apartment is bigger than my whole apartment complex! 😄AND has an amazing view plus these awesome columns framing the window. - He lives in an AMAZING building. I would say the most beautiful building in Melbourne from what I street viewed now. The BIC STORE at 2.15 (an old warehouse) is also an amazing building that is abandoned since 1968! Only the ground level has a grocery store now. That could be transformed into wonderful apartments, too.
I love this home so much! I also have a big art and book collection, but I never thought of bathing my home in it all. Who says maximalism has to be a cluttered mess? This is thoughtful, carefully curated, and well designed. Bravo!
I love what you did with the space! I remember when the neighbours flooded. We were in Unit 602 and like you we wanted to buy this vacant part of the building next to us and expand our living space! But people voted no so we moved on. Your home is so warm and inviting. You must love it ❤
Love the space! Love that he collects art, just like I do. A kindred spirit, who likes to collect things and loves organization. So clever to use the space above the ceiling. Gives him a extra room. Great job! One of the best videos i have seen from Never too small. Hated to see it end!
This is the best video about someone living in his place. It is a good idea to see solutions about organizing and also collecting things without feeling overwhelmed ❤ love it
I usually don't like architects' homes, but Daniel's is an exception. It has plenty of interesting and practical(!) architectural features, but it also has that curated art/book/design/plant collector vibe. Very appealing! It's not my colorful scheme; it's a bit too neutral/muted/almost bare minimalistic, but exactly because of that its maximalist style gives the minimalistic impression. Extremely well-curated, Daniel! If I once needed an architect and would live in Australia, it definitely would be you who I would be searching for. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

I admired this home 4 years ago, and now I love it even more!
I love this home so much! I also have a big art and book collection, but I never thought of bathing my home in it all. Who says maximalism has to be a cluttered mess? This is thoughtful, carefully curated, and well designed. Bravo!
Very cozy and clearly well-thought out.
I love what you did with the space! I remember when the neighbours flooded. We were in Unit 602 and like you we wanted to buy this vacant part of the building next to us and expand our living space! But people voted no so we moved on. Your home is so warm and inviting. You must love it ❤
I will need to watch this again and again to catch all the details, hacks, and ideas covered in this video. Clever, beautiful, inspiring.
Functional, aesthetic and just right for what he wants it to be. What a delight this home is. I'm glad to see this style of content on NTS. :)
Love the space! Love that he collects art, just like I do. A kindred spirit, who likes to collect things and loves organization. So clever to use the space above the ceiling. Gives him a extra room. Great job! One of the best videos i have seen from Never too small. Hated to see it end!
One of the best homes I’ve seen. He has put so much thought into making it functional while still maintaining beautiful aesthetic.
Spiritual intelligence utilized at its best!!!! I'm just summing up how beautifully this apartment is utilized. Thank you for the tour.❤❤❤
Wow, wow, wow, ...! I am an art teacher and for me this flat is so fantastic. Beautiful, bright, .... I would love to live there!
This is such a cool apartment - I love how the collection doesn't overtake the home and actually is seamlessly integrated. Very cool! 😎
