"Designing life around enough" hit me as i am waiting for my new bag to arrive now and still has been itching to buy more new bags. In Islam this concept called zuhud, where you are greateful with what you have and not wanting more. The prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said the best livelihood is the bare minimum. I know the concept but find it hard quite hard to implement in some area of my life as the tradition of my husband family is minimalist but always have new stuffs (giving away the not so new stuffs to people in need like neighbors or people who come and beg) and my family tradition is keeping what we have and not buying new. I am now keeping the old and always buying new, very bad combination. Still working on decluttering but it gets better. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and the reminder. Love the nature.
I am from Catalonia, in the Mediterranean, and your summary of things in the north makes absolute sense for me. I wish you to succeed keeping things this way. In my country, the culture is different and, besides, going away fast under pressure from Spain and France, demographic change, and sheer stress. One big factor in Nordic peace of mind reallly is your low population density. Your size and climate, your nature. You've also got the education right, which is the single most important issue in any society, above health. Thank you for your nice video and all the best!
You make the life in scandinavia seem like a dream. I am from the Netherlands but dont feel like home here. The things you say as beeing reserved, but 101 getting into deep conversations is exactly the way I am. Whenever I see the snow forest in your videos Iwant to go there. Here winter is cold and wet, it just rains. Whenever it snows people complain because it is impractical but my inner child comes out, I am so happy and just stay outside as long as possible. When the days get noticably shorter my friends always joke that I hibernate and that they will see me again in a couple of months. It is so nice to hear that I am actually not strange in shifting energy levels. Furthermore I love what you say about housing. In my surroundings people want a big house and whenever I say I just want an appartment that is big enough for everything that I need and that I dont want a house, even if I have money, conversations drop dead. I have to say I love winter, I am not a fan of autumn, but I will try to implement some of the things you say in my own life because it truly feels like these videos are personal because whatever you say gives a beacon of recognition and it is nice to hear I am not alone in 'beeing the odd one out'. Thank you for making them.
Time to live as it would really matter? You are an appreciated member in our circle of Nordics! Did you know that many Japanese features are admired here, and viceversa. Like Haiku and Tanka poems, like textile and all other arts, like the Moomins, too.
Portuguese girl here qho has lived in Kuopio in 2016 during my Erasmus. Really loved everything about Finland/nordic countries, although I am not an introvert. Kiitos for this video!
I agree with all the comments! I live in the USA and I try so hard to stay in nature. Keep it simple in my home and avoid the cluster of other people. It’s a totally different world here and the egos are so strong it’s painful to see the righteousness. Leave me in the woods to learn how to live in peace ❤
Promoting egalitarianism, quietly celebrating genuine achievement and building interpersonal relationships without feeling the need to boast or over-share is something everyone should strive for. To have those values embedded in your society must be wonderful! I'm an introvert who finds small-talk very difficult, so the nordic countries sound like paradise. Living in balance with your surroundings, respecting others, and recognising when you have "enough" is something well worth pursuing. I am interested in the winter light lamps. I believe only some of these have real therapeutic value because of the amount and quality of the light produced, though. I'd be interested if anyone had any recommendations on reliable brands/models. Thank you for your inspiring videos. Keep up the great work ❤
Thank you for the comment! 😊 I think doing more online research on the lamps could be useful if you are considering buying. I don't really have recommendations since I have an older Philips one. Hope you'll find a good one :)
Sounds like my perfect place.... paradise for an introvert, for someone who loves to live simply, with huge love for and rewpect for Nature and cold climate. Lovely to see Finland though your eyes ❤
One of my grandmothers was from Finland, the rest of us are Russian. One thing I love is a forest walk. Not keen on ice dips. I pool swim, sauna, dip back in pool. What I love about our Northern culture: sincerity, humility, and definitely an introverts paradise.
your videos are so educating about your culture.. I live by many of these things.. I bring a lot of this in my lifestyle.. I live in England.. but highly respect Nordic lifestyle..my grandfather was of Scandinavian Heritage... I am fascinated how much of my life I live Nordic style..
Such a charming and interesting channel. You are wise beyond your years. Keep up ghe good work in your videos. Your voice is so mellow. You also look like the son of Pedro Pascal!
Why not work toward making your life in America more in line with these values? Finland is, or was, a monoculture where people had a similar background. And if you moved there, you would never be Finnish. America is a rare country where anyone willing to do the work is, or can be American.
Let's be careful about assuming that the world wants a bunch of American residents who couldn't preserve their own country as a welcoming place. I would echo the encouragement to stay here and do the work. BTW we have "Findians" in the US who are Finnish and Ojibwe descendants. Apparently, the cultures are very aligned.
@ Yes, my family and I have cultivated these values. I understand what you mean. I’m not packing up and moving to Finland.. was more of a figure of speech. For example, I see the beauty over there and how people respect the land…i live in a National Forest here in Colorado, and every time we go out to hike, or camp, there’s just trash everywhere that people leave because people here are just plain ignorant and trash everything. Last time I went out alone I filled to contractor garbage bags full of trash. It’s depressing really. I was seeing this video and noticed no trash ANYWHERE. So, even though I have these values that are mentioned here..most don’t in America. Just tired of it really. Have a wonderful day, thank you for the conversation.
As a Canadian I appreciated how similar we are in a lot of ways. I loved your description of power and responsibility too. I hope many us in North America reflect on that point especially!
I found your channel not too long ago, after discovering I have some distant Nordic ancestry dna, so I wanted to learn more about your way of life, and I have to say I love it. 👍 I'm truly a fan of the Nordic culture and plan on learning so much from it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, knowledge, and experiences.
Thank you for your beautiful inspirational video ❤To be authentic, honest, modest and content living on enough is a choice we all can make. No matter where we live.
these are the values that feel inherently most fundamentally true + real to me. i've been learning more about my own nordic ancestry these recent years + in doing so have felt a lot of my intuitive ways of being have been affirmed in the cultures of my ancestors this feels so sweet + meaningful
The reason these “unspoken rules” work is because of the culture that’s been preserved in areas like Norway. That’s not to say cultures can’t evolve, change and grow, but there’s an ethos amongst every culture in the world, and yes, they can be quite different. Not saying any is better or more valid than any others, but having unspoken rules and standards within a culture are often completely incompatible with another country. We can be honest about these truths without be hateful or disrespectful in any way. It’d be nice to see more people embrace their cultures, rather than feel the need to change it to conform to the cultures and standards of others. Great video! Thanks. Looks beautiful up there!
This is wonderful and inspiring. Thank you. I was born on the wrong continent. Nordic people & their way of life are incredibly smart, community minded, fair, conscientious and emotionally intelligent. I wish I lived there. You sound like my people. It's lonely and a more self serving society here in US.ofA.😔 Good folks here too but, you know, the almighty dollar, capitalism & greed prevail.
"People here believe..." This is a statement about a society that is homogeneous. This works. You can only rely on this kind of functional system when you have homogeneous values. A true blessing.
Sounds like paradise for introvert people :) I spent my honeymoon in Finland, camping in wilderness and enjoying saunas, and it was the best time of my life! One time we went with our friend to visit National Park Koli. We were sitting in the car, the three of us silent for half an hour, just watching nature passing by. Suddenly our Finnish friend said: "Well, that´s Finnish smalltalk." So true, hehe :D
Wow, thank you for sharing these wonderful attributes of Nordic culture. As an American, I sure wish our society would adopt some of these kind, humane practices. Wishing you a very Happy New Year, and looking forward to more videos.
It has been only 3 months that I've moved to Finland. This is my first time coming to an western country. But as the days go by, I'm being surprised how similar this country is with my personality and values. There are things I don’t like but slowly adjusting to those. I'm happy that God put me in the perfect place. Finland doesn't seem like a big cultural shock to me.
Canadian here. I think we share some values, but there is much I wish we would adopt from your approach to a successful life. Thank you for sharing. I'll keep watching your channel ❤
I work in wintertime as a wildernessguide up in Äkäslompolo. As far as I can grasp it, it all starts with children, kindergardens and preschool: socialisation is more about being one of many, not standing out too much but at the same time a silent agreement to „we are all together in this“. It’s beautiful. Living the rest of the year in Switzerland, there it’s totally different: who’s the one with the most money, highest social status, flatest belly or biggest muscles. It’s insane. And Switzerland is for sure a quite moderate place to be compared to the USA. It will take generations to become more like the Scandinavians, but it’s quite worth it I‘d say.
I know of no private land that welcomes a hiker for 48 hours. I was walking on a ranch road once and a bit of different ranch land awhile ago....both times someone drove out to tell me it was private and to stay off their land. I'm a woman walking 4 dogs and don't believe I look very threatening. I do understand why but it's still hard to accept as someone who has always hiked and explored the areas I've lived since I was 10 or 11. Mostly I just find it rather sad and disheartening that Americans can no longer trust each other to behave in a civil manner. (The 48 hour rule.)
Wow! Wonderful video with meaningful tips. I am going to start enjoying rather than enduring (whether it’s winter or anything else). The advice to operate from a sense of ‘enough’ brings me peace. I lived in Finland 🇫🇮 for one year a long time ago and met the most wonderful people. I’m so excited to see what you post next and I’ve subscribed!
I envy you your crisp winters. Here in UK winter is often damp and dark, it’s very difficult to embrace that. I have just discovered your channel and am loving it so far.
Sounds wonderful and wise. So very different from the USA; a polar opposite. I’m 74 and if possible l would live the rest of my life in a Nordic country. Thank you so much for this refreshing presentation of what is truly possible. We are so lied to here in the USA. Make the USA great again? It’s never approached greatness that comes anywhere close to what you have described😊. I’m subscribed to your channel and look forward to more.
I'm a Portuguese male living in Spain. We are the odd neighbours Spanish people know nothing about and we couldn´t be more different. Spain is a country where the "in-your-face" culture, with its ferociously loud, proud, frantic and promiscuous social life-style has a whole scale of its own, above and beyond any others. Totally the opposite of what you describe as the Nordic culture. People are loud in the Mediterranean - just thing of the stereotyped, picaresque Italian, Greek or Spanish person (the Portuguese are the odd , more silent, laid-back cousins, probably because we have the Atlantic to smoothen our temper ,) ). It´s impossible to read a book in any coffee-shop in Spain, because of the noise (but you can do it in Portugal). it´s also impossible to enjoy nature in sapin, despite its many beautiful landscapes, because its crowded with loud Spaniards :) You made me smile when you mentioned that Finland is a safe-haven or a dreamland for introverts and shy people. :) No such thing exist as a "shy-corner dwellers" safe place in grotesquely vocal Spanish culture, where you mandatorily have to be loud and socially share all intimate details about yourself and your life and project this attitude of always being in control and mastering the full universe, otherwise you will be looked at as the "rarito" (the weird one). I once read a quote from an Oscar Wilde biographer saying that Wild had returned to Ireland from a stay in the US " full of talent, and full of himself". I've always though the "full of himself" part was because he had made a stop in Spain. ,). You had another video where you spoke about the social x physical distance in public places, with an image of 5 people standing 2m afar from each other in a bus stop. You need to come to Benidorm or anywhere in southern Spain and lay at the beach with your neighbour literally lying 10cm away from you :) :) Anyway, all cultures have its good and not so good idiosyncrasies, and its been very interesting to learn about Finnish ways in these wonderful and very enlightening videos of yours. So much of the items you touch on resonate - as in a mirror of contrasts - with my own critical views of some of our chaotic, excessive, colourful and drama-prone Mediterranean culture idiosyncrasies (ex: the excessive verbal emotionalization of all interactions, our inclination to strong, complex - and inefficient - hierarchy structures and the correlated abuse of power and prepotence they entail, the fear of failure in work environments vs the blame culture, the little corruptions in public services, the perpetual destructive gossip and inter-personal criticism, the projection of shallow material sophistication as the beacons of societal value, the disconnection from nature vs the delusional capitalist exploitation of its resources, our lack of seriousness when engaging in intellectual or political debates combined with the need and inclination towards frivolization of all debates, the constant lack of time-keeping and tardiness, the overcrowded cities and shoo-box sized apartments with no ventilation or appropriate heating/aircon, etc, etc, as opposed to what you describe). Keep up your wonderful work, this is very enlightening and interesting stuff you post. All the best. You´ve gained an interested, curious Portuguese follower. Cheers / Kippis. ;) PS - Maybe time to consider moving to Finland. ;)
Thank you for that very interesting perspective. I did not know the cultures were so different. I grew up in a very German household in Canada, so I relate very much to this Finnish way of life.
I was in Madrid once and had a chance to try this churros with this pudding cocoa drink for breakfast. Never thought I would come to that region but I’m grateful for the experience. 🤗🥰😊
@ I got my sugar energy that day to tour an art museum. The name of the museum has to do with a Queen, I wanted to go to the museum that has works of Goya but that one was closed. My niece had to go to the American embassy so my brother and I just hung out and went to the art museum. When we came back from Paris after Christmas we went to this fascinating place called Salamanca, I think that’s how it’s spelled. Anyway I just love going where there’s history 🥰🥰🤗🤗

Hi , coming from Reno Nevada US. I totally appreciate your culture. I’m normally a quiet person and it’s about centering my peace inside me. I’ve been around disruptive dysfunctional people and I try to stay away as it distracting. Thank you for sharing 😊
That forest is so beautiful. I need to figure out a way to thrive rather than just survive the summer here in Australia, which is like the exact opposite of your deep winter. Too hot, sunburn, unable to cool down on the hottest days, it really does feel like something to be endured. Maybe I can find a way to prepare and enjoy it like you guys do with winter - I've never seen that much snow in real life ever! Here we have many similarities to Nordic culture from a societal perspective (universal health care, paid parental leave, people not really sticking their nose in your business but generally being very friendly) even though our climates and geographies are so wildly different. We don't have everyman's rights, but we do have a lot of national parks. Very interesting video, and you are very calming to listen to as well. The frozen water bottle cracked me up as I sit here on a 31 degree day with the air conditioning going!
Thank you for the video. Belated congratulations on the independence day 6 December. Finland is an amazing country in many ways including how the Finns managed to build such a wise and prosperous society under extremely difficult historical circumstances.
Wonderful video, thank you for your calming content! I've been to Helsinki a couple of times and I absolutely love the introvert-friendly vibe, I wouldn't mind adapting the Finnish way of communicating here in Iceland where I live. We have a lot of the same things here in Iceland, and we try to enjoy the winter in similar ways. Many of us love going to the outdoor swimming pools and sitting in the hot tubs (up to 44°C/111°F) while the wind is blowing snow into our faces! The swimming pools keep my mood up during the dark winter months.
I just found Your channel and it was a really calming experience to watch it while sipping my coffee. I should definitely try to live there for a few weeks or something. 🙂
This is a beautiful way to live. But choice is everything. I’m not American, but I appreciate that what people perceive as negative in Americans can also be their greatest strength. In so many countries “the tall poppy “ syndrome is alive and well, and it can stifle innovation and freedom.
I see similar understatement, reservation and modesty with the Swiss, we seem to be „hidden“ Nordics 🙃 Things work bottom-up rather than top-down, practicality and efficiency are basic tenets.
Last year I was in Rovaniemi (Lapland) and have experienced real finnish sauna and than cold plunge. It was on my bucket list… as well as meeting Santa 😁😁😁 Finland is really beautiful country with handsome people and amazing nature. Hope I’ll visit it once again ❤ Greetings from Croatia

Finland is truly one of the places in the world which I would love to move to. What beautiful values.
Everything makes sense here.
World listen up ❤
Mature healthy culture
I love to quiet my mind, body & soul. The peace you obtain is priceless. Nature is my best friend 🌱
A breath of fresh air, in an increasingly polluted world. Thank you.
I told you I was Nordic (if not Japanese) in my past life. 😆 I really resonate with these values.
Haha! Love it 😉
Time to live as it would really matter? You are an appreciated member in our circle of Nordics! Did you know that many Japanese features are admired here, and viceversa. Like Haiku and Tanka poems, like textile and all other arts, like the Moomins, too.
May the ideals of this country sweep the entire world in influence and inspiration.
Portuguese girl here qho has lived in Kuopio in 2016 during my Erasmus.
Really loved everything about Finland/nordic countries, although I am not an introvert.
Kiitos for this video!
Thanks for watching! :)
Superb video. I would gladly switch my British life for the Nordic way of living.
Such a compassionate, decent, rational approach to life. ❤
I spent a week in Helsinki in October of this year. Wonderful city with so many beautiful things to see and do, and incredibly wonderful people.
I grew up in western Montana and there are a lot of similarities. Not the private land part, but there is so much federal land to explore.
I so enjoyed this explanation of Nordic culture. Thank you for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I went on vacation to Finland in winter a couple years ago. Everyone asked me "why?". This is why.
I like to hear the Finnish pronunciation of words like sauna, it's nice to know how the people who invented something speak of it. Thank you!
I like the Nordic philosophy, it is very sensible n sincere. Ty for your hard work n channel.😊
Such a charming and interesting channel. You are wise beyond your years. Keep up ghe good work in your videos. Your voice is so mellow. You also look like the son of Pedro Pascal!
i love these videos. With the current state in America, this is looking more and more of a place where my values align. Time to move!!
I lived in finland for almost a year and it was wonderful. You must be prepared for dark days of winter. I loved it there.
Couldn't agree more!
I'm enjoying the winter this year. I'm fortunate to enjoy the outdoors of Canada daily living in the woods.
Now I know why I’ve always felt an affinity for Nordic life & culture. 😊
Your spontaneous laugh livens up your video! Thank you for your video on a calm and balanced life🌴
I hope Finland hasn’t ruined their country the way Sweden has. Your culture is worth preserving.
Probably the same just trying to romanticize it here on YT.
@@DALTRON666is Sweden "ruined"? I doubt it's citizens feel that way.
Scandinavia is stunning 😊
As a Canadian I appreciated how similar we are in a lot of ways. I loved your description of power and responsibility too. I hope many us in North America reflect on that point especially!
I found your channel not too long ago, after discovering I have some distant Nordic ancestry dna, so I wanted to learn more about your way of life, and I have to say I love it. 👍
I'm truly a fan of the Nordic culture and plan on learning so much from it. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, knowledge, and experiences.
Thank you for your beautiful inspirational video ❤To be authentic, honest, modest and content living on enough is a choice we all can make. No matter where we live.
these are the values that feel inherently most fundamentally true + real to me. i've been learning more about my own nordic ancestry these recent years + in doing so have felt a lot of my intuitive ways of being have been affirmed in the cultures of my ancestors
this feels so sweet + meaningful
Wonderful video. Much respect for Nordic cultures. We (USA) have much to learn from you.
What a nice video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your beautiful country!
Very pleased this video was recommended truly enjoyed watching this 😊
"People here believe..."
This is a statement about a society that is homogeneous. This works. You can only rely on this kind of functional system when you have homogeneous values. A true blessing.
This is a lovely video. I enjoyed your explanation of Nordic culture, and, of course, the beautiful scenery.
Wow, just found your channel. This was such a good video...important to have heard it. Thank you, Seve.
This was fascinating, I envy you these things and wish all countries had these kinds of things in their countries. Thank you for sharing.
SOUNDS GREAT TO ME!!!!!
WE CAN ALL LEARN FROM YOU!!!!
Good, sound principles ❤
Very interesting!
Thanks from Maine USA.
Beautiful culture! You make me sad I was born in the USA. Given that I do love Nordic skiing and spending time in nature. Thank you.
The '48-hour' rule on private land sounds awesome. In America there is a '1 minute' rule. After that, you better duck!
Haha 😂😂 Yeah I wouldn't do this there, especially during dark lol
Thank you, so wonderful to learn of a country and people who do it right.
Thanks for watching! :)
Great Video. If all the countries in the world will follow this, the world would be a complete different place.💚🇨🇷🙏
It´s impossible to read a book in any coffee-shop in Spain, because of the noise (but you can do it in Portugal). it´s also impossible to enjoy nature in sapin, despite its many beautiful landscapes, because its crowded with loud Spaniards :)
You made me smile when you mentioned that Finland is a safe-haven or a dreamland for introverts and shy people. You need to come to Benidorm or anywhere in southern Spain and lay at the beach with your neighbour literally lying 10cm away from you :) :)
Anyway, all cultures have its good and not so good idiosyncrasies, and its been very interesting to learn about Finnish ways in these wonderful and very enlightening videos of yours. Cheers / Kippis. ;)
PS - Maybe time to consider moving to Finland.
@alimccreery755 yep, a typical match, churros and hot chocolate, thsts the cocoa pudding you refer to... 😂
@ that art museum we went to had works of Salvador Dollie. I hope I’m spelling that correctly also. 🤭🤭
A new subscriber from Ukraine here. A lot of the points that you mention are similar in Slavic cultures. Your video was very informative and educational, also slow paced in a nice way, even calming. Thank you so much for sharing the Nordic way of living. It's very interesting!
I’ve always been drawn to Finland since I was a kid. Every video I see makes me want to move there more and more if only I could. I will visit someday for sure 😭
I think I am Nordic and just now discovered it.
Hello Seve - I just came across this and it is a lovely video. Thank you for sharing and creating. These are certainly ways of being that speak to my heart. Just subscribed. I look forward to hearing more about your journey and how it might impact my own.
Hi , coming from Reno Nevada US. I totally appreciate your culture. I’m normally a quiet person and it’s about centering my peace inside me. I’ve been around disruptive dysfunctional people and I try to stay away as it distracting. Thank you for sharing 😊
Canadian here and I am realizing how much of this I implement in my life. My mom's family is Swedish so maybe some of it came from there.
Loved this video Seve. A very dear friend of mine is Finnish. I'm learning a lot about the culture from your videos. Thank you so much! ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! :)
That's awesome! Would love to try it one day for sure 😄🙌
I’m really loving this channel and learning so so much. Thank you. 🙏
What a great out look and the concept is just brilliant, I am going to try and be more Nordic ! Great video 👍
Merci Sève ☺️ i am watching from France and love your kind and peaceful approach to life.
Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent Presentation! Many thanks.
Really appreciate and amazed at your values
I see similar understatement, reservation and modesty with the Swiss, we seem to be „hidden“ Nordics 🙃 Things work bottom-up rather than top-down, practicality and efficiency are basic tenets.
Putting aside the weather, Finland sounds like paradise to me. I've always been different.😊
That's awesome and the real way to travel haha 😄 Glad you liked it and thanks for watching the video! ❄️
Your English is phenomenal!! 👏👏
