Brigette has been my best friend for 30 years and I can tell you all that she is as lovely, creative and adorable IRL as this video portrays. I seriously am so thrilled by how accurate this is. Her apartment feels like an immersion into safety, a painting, and chic comfort. I am so proud of her, and I am so happy to see such kind and wonderful comments. Love you so much my Brig. I am blown away by you.
Love her reasoning for spending money on her space even as a renter. Your home is your safe haven from the craziness of the world! I would totally do the same in her shoes and I LOVE her space so much! It's very much HER!! ❤
If she's willing to pay to upgrade her landlords property for them... It really speaks to how awful the rental market truly is. Even with the high rental costs it's still impossible to find somewhere bearable to live without also having to pay to renovate the place you're renting 😏
I’m so intimidated by all of these creative and stylish women in New York making these tiny apartments into beautiful spaces. This is gorgeous. Even her cat has so much style and attitude.
She had to start somewhere too, and it was probably a small project. Most of us make many mistakes along the way and learn something each time. So my thought is: start small, make mistakes but don't fear them, rejoice in your accomplishments, and keep growing.
Don't be intimidated! Be inspired! We all have our gifts and talents. For our weaknesses we can always outsource. Even she consulted with a professional decorator too!
I love her too.....she is so genuine and sincere...her space is beautiful and when she spoke about her nana and her mum both passing I teared up as I too have pieces from my parents' family home that are a constant reminder of the love and memories that my family and I shared. I also have some of my father's checked shirts made into cool beach style cushion covers and my mom's cardigans made into practical waistcoats which are great for layering. Brigette this has been an absolute pleasure to watch and I thank you for sharing your wonderful home.
Girl you have not just talent but TALENT!!!!👏🏼 what a nice apartment with the space you have. It’s literally giving France vibes. It’s cozy stylish and just well put together👌🏼 great great job
I don’t know what I love more… her, the apartment, or the cat for not knocking over all of her beautiful things. This is by far my favorite Apartment Therapy episode! Great job girl 🥰
You are so right. Even if you own your house outright, it's still just temporary. We are just custodians of things. Everything you own will some day pass on to the next custodian.
Every moment I thought, this is one of the most gifted design artist I have seen. Completely genuine and as natural as water flows. You are a master already Brigette.
For a rent controlled apartment in Brooklyn it's a great idea to spend & invest in pieces you love. Most NY'ers live in rent controlled apartments for YEARS!!!
I assume a rent controlled place gives you more stability? I've done improvements on rental places, only to have the owner decide to rent it to family or sell, which makes me hesitant to do it again.
@@patriciasalem3606That’s what I was thinking. If they know you’ve done renovations they can jack up your rent to make you move so they can rent it for more to someone else.
I have rented my entire life by choice. I'm in my mid 70's and feel as Brigette does. I didn't want the responsibility of owning so doing upgrades and renovations on my apartment was a no brainer. Everyone always comments on how beautiful my space is in one breath and then feels it's foolish to spend my money on the landlord's property in the next. I've ignored them all and loved pretty much all the spaces I've lived in. Do what makes you happy and to heck with the nay-sayers. Your home is absolutely gorgeous Brigette.
I’ve always been a renter too, with same mindset about renting and making it beautiful and homey, regardless. Never had the style or know-how this lovely young woman has. But I have tried to make all my homes as comfy and beautiful as possible. 💗
Did you need to get the owner’s permission to do the changes? Also I would be concerned he might raise the rent or not renew and find a new renter. Beautiful apartment
but if your living in the space I too would spend my money to make it beautful, and who cares if it is the LL's property, while your living there, why not make it beautiful. I agree with you.
Agree with everything you said. I'm 74, by the way, and sold my house to rent again. Brigitte reminds me that it's just fine to change your mind and your space, because, hey, who do you have to please if not yourself? Why live in a place that doesn't feel like home to your soul?
Usually, I am not a fan of brass hardware everywhere as I fear it may date quickly, but in keeping with an Old-world esthetic, the brass here really adds an elegant touch. I saw this apartment in a video done previously, and almost skipped this, but glad I didn't, seeing what she did with the bathroom alone was worth it. A dressing room in a small space...that's got me thinking. Thanks AT
Her apartment is fabulous. So much texture and wonderful color. Every corner has something interesting to look at. It's so cozy and so much was done with a flare in such a small apartment. 👍🥰
I’m ten minutes in and already the worst part about this video is it’s too short. She seems so authentic and the way she conceptualizes decor (plus the way she EXPLAINS why and how she did it) is yummy to my brain. Can’t forget to mention the space and her hair are fabulous. ❤❤❤ 12/10 for showing where the litter box + ugly day-to-day stuff lives.
This is by far my favourite space on Apartment Therapy. The layout is fantastic, but it's what she's done with it that really makes it a winner. So much inspiration to draw from here.
Shabby chic meets old world European. The atmosphere she created takes you to a different place and time. It's like walking into one of the vintage paintings she owns. My aesthetic is very similar to hers and it was very inspiring to see her capture it through the items she chose rather than knocking down walls. My favorite home featured on this channel so far❤
I grew up in a railroad apartment in Brooklyn, NY in the late ‘40’s and ‘50’s. The only room with a door was the toilet. The shower was in with the toilet, just a shower head that sprayed on some tile, about a 3’ square space. The only sink was in the kitchen. Two front windows, two windows at the back of the apartment. Linoleum floor. No hot water, my dad put in a water heater tank. Fire escape off the rear window. We were 2 blocks from the East River looking at lower Manhattan. $27.00 month rent. It went up to $35 by the time we moved. It’s nice to see these old apartments renovated. Beautiful job.
Pure radiant talent. Brigette is truly gifted at not only creating one of the most beautiful spaces I have ever seen. She so effortlessly creates spaces that are liveable; elegant and buttery sensorially beautiful. I am so impressed by her sense of style and lifestyle. Well done. Agreed as per a lot of comments I have read: Brigette deserves her own show.
This apartment is adorable. It has so much character... with many pretty French accents and personal storied features. I agree with the concept of spending a little money on doing up a rental place to make it more you. I really enjoyed this home and her sweet cat Ollie too.
This feels like stepping into another world. I have never seen an apartment tour where the space was so loved, so cohesive, so on-topic, so otherworldly. This is absolutely gorgeous, well done.
Lynn here I get all this my husband and I have moved 29 times in 55 years. And Ray was in the service for 5 years . Anyway my point EVERY apt. We moved into we cleaned painted and made it our own now we live in a senior Apt. and we are 73 and 74.and I still make it our own . 😊👍
Wow, 29 times! How much energy you must have !!! I moved 14 times and already thaught this was a lot😅 But I did everything on my own, no companies to paint or put wallpaper in or things like that. So for me it was a lot😉
I get it. 37 times in my life as a flight attendant, etc. Change your apartment/ location- change your life. I am a designer so I've always made it my own as much as possible. In the process of doing my new apt at a 55+ building.
one of the prettiest apartments. very cosy and gives me a paris vibes, im not into very stuffed apartments like this, but hers is made tastefully. love all the rustic mirrors and paintings. gorgeous.
I’m so glad I found this video. It validated the way I feel about living in a rental. Some people make me feel bad about spending money making the space beautiful. But I feel that although It is someone else’s house, it is my home.
I love her philosophy of not thinking of her apartment as a temporary dwelling. She has made it a home for however long she lives there. My first thought was that she earned her living as an interior decorator. I like the living room in the room that gets the most natural light. Buying the Ikea wardrobes and swapping out the knobs was pure genius! I watch a ton of NYC apartment tours and I always wonder how people can survive with such minimal closet space. I have a lot of clothes including coats, boots and shoes. It’s like a gym workout to pull out storage bins from beneath the bed, or clear everything off the cocktail table or ottoman to get linen to change by towels and sheets. I’m curious about something. Pillows. It seems to me that while they look nice and add texture and color, a lot of pillows seem impractical when you have guests or make up your bed.
You are right, I know I am between homes, and living out of storage bins, it is no fun, because as hard as I try I cannot stay organized!@@bernadettedevereaux8694
This video made me so happy to watch. A young person out there living their best life and loving it all along the way. One day, when you make your way to the suburbs you're going to look back at these years with fond memories. Enjoy the heck out it.
Love your attitude. You may not own your apartment, but you do own your life, and every day of that life is a precious fragment that once spent can never be regained. You deserve to spend those days in a place you love and feel happy in.
What a beautiful space. She made it every inch her own. I am blown away by how much a rental apartment in NY can be renovated by a tenant. Around here I don't think you can even paint a wall let alone add new flooring and counters.
Usually not a fan of brushing teeth in the kitchen, but your made your space look like a "water room" ( i don't have a word for this) and it's very inviting and multi-purpose. I love it! Very inspiring. Also totally agree, as a renter, I also want to invest in my space even if I'm not the owner!
It's neat to hear other parts of the country refer to the same idea as different terms. Where I live we call that a shotgun style home. It's prevalent in New Orleans. Our homes are normally designed in a Parisian/ French style as well. It's absolutely beautiful!
You are so talented Brigette! I love your space but for a moment lounging Ollie stole the show!😂 Thank you for sharing your pro tips! My favorite was to look at sections as vignettes! I’m sure that tip will help me as update my space!
Such a delightful space! Love the vignette concept and adore the willingness to use the spaces in the way that suits her! Also love the advice to use the sofa the way it works best for her! Congratulations on making this space into a gorgeous home!
Absolutely lovely. She's also right about the living room. That's where you need the space - bedroom alcoves work fine. So many clever ideas and great taste. Not so sure about the bathroom w/ no sink - is that even legal? 😂
I love what she did with this railroad apartment, and all the decisions she made just worked so well. I also have to say, the videographer did a much better job than the previous program featuring her place!
I’ve followed Brigette on social media for a while, and I’m so happy to see her featured here! She’s extremely talented, and I love that you can tell how passionate she is about interior decorating.
Such a beautiful home with exquisite details. Brigette has the taste, interior decorating knowledge and talent and eye for detail of a person much older and experienced than her age. May this home always bring her happiness.
This is perfection. Following her Instagram I’ve gotten to know this amazingly talented young woman (who deserves a design show) and is just so personable and smart. Kid I know your mom would be proud, your apartment is a jewel box. I can only imagine what she could do with a larger space. Best episode ever!!!🖤🌸
Your apartment, your reasoning for adding your own twist and flair to your living quarters is absolutely divine!! I loved everything about your styling, your choices on furniture pieces, your own personal touches. I really loved how the marble slabs add so much character and old Hollywood glamour to your living space. It was stunning!! You need your own HGTV show, on how to achieve style and coziness without breaking the bank.
I have seen thousands of beautiful homes during my career and I can honestly say, that yours is one of the most Beautiful and Enchanting homes that I have had the delight in touring. You truly have the Magical Touch, thank you Brigette, for sharing it with us.
Gorgeous place. So full of beautiful details and decorated with taste. Very knowledgeable presenter! Excellent jobs in all aspects. Agree she should have her own show.
It’s a beautiful home. I love the gold frames and her vignettes are so perfect it comes across as serene and luxurious rather than glam. The layout works so well it shows what you can do when you can see beyond the box of assigned rooms and do what works for you in the space.
This is stunning. You have done an amazing job. The thrifting is a fabulous way to create an elegant warm space. Use of draperies so fantastic.. So nice to see a space that is not entirely full of IKEA.
I've watched the transformation of this space on TikTok. As a professional interior designer I have to say this is one of the best spaces I've ever seen curated by someone who doesn't work in the industry. The overall look and feel as well as the use of the space is truly brilliant ! can't wait to see the additions and also kinda would love to see her do another space start to finish.
This is still one of my very favorite homes. I've watched this now for the second time and constantly find new things to love. And Brigitte is awesome.
This apartment is probably my favorite that I have seen in about two years of watching house tours like this. And Bridgette, she is adorable and I love her taste and style.
Yes, everyone deserves to love the space they're in, but something to be mindful of is that when people say, "Why decorate a rental?" it's not because they don't _want_ to have a beautiful temporary space. They just can't afford to. An insane amount of money went into the decor of this lovely apartment, and that's not something most working class folks can dish out every time they move into a new rental.
This. Though I wonder if her landlord discounted her rent for putting in better appliances and finishes. But yeah that decoration is more than most people can afford.
Also in my experience many landlords won't let you even put a picture up on the wall, let alone painting or renovating. This woman's very lucky she was able to do what she did, and to afford to do it. The end result looks gorgeous though.
You're probably talking U.S. conditions here. There are other countries where renting is even more common and where it is quite normal to adapt things to your liking and spend a few bob on it over time when you think you'll be there for a longer period.
But what shes saying is if you can afford it and your landlord lets you do some changes, do it. She’s not talking about the money, she’s talking about what it means to spend time and effort in a place you’re gonna leave, eventually
@@roadwayrona I'm talking about UK conditions about 25 years ago. Not sure if it's the same now. I agree that tenants should be able to decorate and make their home their own.
Oh what a great video. I loved the creativity and personal design attributes Brigette used to make her space so warm and inviting. Also of significance is how much functionality she retains in her space. Great job!!
This apartment is stunning! I live in a 1800 sq ft, 3 story single family home, so why am I watching Apartment Therapy? Because this hit my feed and I exclaimed "Oh my!" Also, when I was a young woman just starting out, I had a studio in Brooklyn and it was a magical time! Congratulations, young lady!
Totally right way of making rental space as much of an idyllic home. About a wash basin in the bathroom, some where in far East Asia, a wash basin over the flush unit seemed a good water harvesting way. Get creative and you could even patent your quick fix in bathrooms that do not have wash vanity units… Enjoy your home and thanks for the tour ❤
My mom and I thrifted, re-did furniture, and decorated all of time. She is gone now and, like you, I cherish the memories and the things she left behind. I like that you've beautified your rental space. It's your home for as long as you live there. You may as well make it beautiful. Beautiful apartment.

I love what she did with this railroad apartment, and all the decisions she made just worked so well. I also have to say, the videographer did a much better job than the previous program featuring her place!
Wow, you have really good taste and an eye for good design. I laughed when you said "Go big." That is sooo New York. A five-star apartment!
I’ve followed Brigette on social media for a while, and I’m so happy to see her featured here! She’s extremely talented, and I love that you can tell how passionate she is about interior decorating.
Do you have a link? She's lovely! I'd enjoy following her on social.
@@katasticoneI'd love to know too.
Love everything about this space…..
Wow! Such a gorgeous transformation! This young woman has a real talent for decorating. She could go pro! Thank you for this highly enjoyable tour! ❤
Lovely home. ❤I am so sorry you lost your mom so young. ❤❤
I have seen thousands of beautiful homes during my career and I can honestly say, that yours is one of the most Beautiful and Enchanting homes that I have had the delight in touring. You truly have the Magical Touch, thank you Brigette, for sharing it with us.
I lost my mom young too but know that she is with you.
Absolutely beautiful space. Thank you for sharing 💐
This is beautifully done , a gorgeous space
Gorgeous place. So full of beautiful details and decorated with taste. Very knowledgeable presenter! Excellent jobs in all aspects. Agree she should have her own show.
Great use of an awkward space, I really like your style!
4:16 AM... what a lovely video... Thank you.
It’s a beautiful home. I love the gold frames and her vignettes are so perfect it comes across as serene and luxurious rather than glam. The layout works so well it shows what you can do when you can see beyond the box of assigned rooms and do what works for you in the space.
I love what she’s created in her apt. It’s so charmingly beautiful as is she.
A beatiful home, warm and elegant. An intelligent way to hide the architectural problems. congratulations.
Your apartment is so creative. Keep doing this decorating-- you have an innate talent. love it
I loved this tour. Her apartment looks beautiful, her descriptions were amazing and I love the cat
This is stunning. You have done an amazing job. The thrifting is a fabulous way to create an elegant warm space. Use of draperies so fantastic.. So nice to see a space that is not entirely full of IKEA.
Love everything about this space. So pretty and soft looking. I feel like it would be very calming as well. Just a really great design and space.
I love the storage curtains, Brigette! You have excellent taste. Mom would be very proud of you.
This is still one of my very favorite homes. I've watched this now for the second time and constantly find new things to love. And Brigitte is awesome.
Bridgette is so talented! Wow!
The decoration is so stylish, beautiful and chic. This is very inspirational! Congratulations Brigette!! 👏🏾👏🏾
I love her space! So warm and inviting. Thank you for sharing your home with us
This apartment is probably my favorite that I have seen in about two years of watching house tours like this. And Bridgette, she is adorable and I love her taste and style.
Love the decore. Not cluttered, well thought out.
I love everything!! From the old floors and cabinets, to the antique hardware and furniture to the frame tv. Love it!!
I’ve seen videos of this apartment before, and I love it. The decor is gorgeous.
You did a fabulous job!! I love it.
The kitchen sink doubling as the bathroom sink is such a "only in New York" moment. And I love it!
I am the same way. My house is my space and thank God my landlord has no problem with me changing things. The Best!
Beautiful! Great job! In the 60s I put two railroad apartments together, and the living room had the bathtub in it! Those were fun days in New York!
My mom and I thrifted, re-did furniture, and decorated all of time. She is gone now and, like you, I cherish the memories and the things she left behind. I like that you've beautified your rental space. It's your home for as long as you live there. You may as well make it beautiful. Beautiful apartment.
Love, love, love. You have amazing style and taste. Plus you follow your own rules
Love her style and how customized it is. It looks cozy, elegant and intimate at the same time.
