Beautifully done! I can't tell you how thirsty I've been to see a home tour that wasn't done by a 20-something or someone with millions of dollars. I'm envious of your ability to source such gorgeous vintage and antique items so easily. And the use of the Hermès scarf was genius. I'm not ready to move yet -- mostly due to elderly pets -- but this was inspiring for when I am able to go. France is on my shortlist.

When you are ready, check out estate sales or auctions in your area. I've bought some very pretty pieces for super cheap in the Boston area, the biggest cost is usually hiring a mover.

I had a forced downsizing during the Recession, but I kept a few nice pieces from the Midwest. And since then, I've picked up a few things in Mexico, and my sister sourced some nice furnishings for me in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. I have a refurbished antique dresser from a local thrift shop here in rural SoCal being delivered this weekend. My moving plan is to get a new bed and sofa wherever I land but to bring all my small tables, chests, and chairs with me in a freight cube. Likewise any nice dishware and glassware, plus art, that I've collected over the years, and some books (I have a large collection of art and coffee table books that can't be substituted with digital versions). I don't want to start over, and it's not cost effective (nor desirable to me) to buy new with every move. The trick is to find an unfurnished or minimally furnished place (I'll likely be renting). Then I'd like to add some pieces from local shops too. I love that layering you get when you collect over the decades and can repurpose pieces like your commodes in different ways.
Two years ago, I downsized into a one room studio apartment with small galley kitchen and full bathroom. Love my simple, uncluttered life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful apartment.

My husband wants to do that once our kids finish college (they still live with us, but are going to college locally). Anyhow, they are 18 months apart, that's why they're both in college, but once they are done and go their own way, my husband wants to downsize. At first I didn't but when I think about it, I want things to be simple and not having to be cleaning a big place, specially if some rooms won't be used, plus I rather much travel instead.
That is what I have. yet I sew and do crafts and for all practicality is a horrible circumstance, particularly since this crooked landlord illegally enters and vandalizes, steals parts to use somewhere else, no maintenance but the maintenance supervisor literally broke in my apartment while I was taking a bath and my screams only excited him more! Fortunately what I posted on internet was seen by a good official, and that supervisor was ordered to leave before he came around the corner of my galley kitchen. This building has a $2.2 billion value yet they have 3 mortgages, the third is $89billion! The building was erected in 2009. They don't even repair the back door to the lobby facing a plaza. That trauma from July 2 is still so upsetting. There is no law enforcement here. Skull & Bones define the culture. Everything outside the law in New Haven, CT #SunriseCT. I have federal poverty level income. Other Section 8 people have 1 bedrooms the size of this video. Housing is very corrupted here.
Absolutely beautiful! For one person it is plenty big. Less is more. Having a small home means you have to spend less time cleaning it, which frees you up to go out and enjoy life.
True but I have always found small spaces harder to clean. Probably because less actual floor space so everything must be moved around in order to clean.
You’ve done an amazing job at making a plain apartment look like a mini chateau! I’ve just divorced after 20 years of marriage and moved into a an apartment of the same size. You gave me lot of ideas on how to make it look special. I have already thought about antique furniture with character but also loved your tips about handles and knobs and also that gorgeous wallpaper in the hallway. Loved it! I am also impressed on how you have managed to create storage. Wish you all luck with your future endeavours!
And you too!!! I divorced after 23 years of marriage. It's a huge lifestyle shift but it's now been 10 years and I can say, life is good. Go slow and make sure every stey you take is exactly what YOU want. Bon courage!!

We decided to downsize and my hubby passed 3 weeks after we moved in. It was difficult but now I am so glad we had moved and I love my 2 bed apartment with sea views.

Anyhow, while in the apartment a lot of our stuff was in storage for that whole year and a half, only getting the Christmas decorations when needed and then returning it. Anyhow, that really made me realize when we moved into a house again that we really don't need too much things to be happy and comfortable and that more than half of those things I did not need once, so I got rid of stuff and I'm still trying to get rid of more because I didn't miss it. Although, I don't have much things like most people do, sometimes I feel like I have too much things still that I don't even need. Downsizing is a good thing and we are planning on doing it when the kids leave the nest.
I just found your channel. In the next few weeks I will be watching all your videos. I have been looking for something like this. Today I was told I am 20 months into remission from colon cancer. My doc thinks I will be just fine. Now that I know I will most likely not die from this I need to get on with the rest of my life. I hit the pause button because I was worried that if I started anything I might not be here to follow it through. So now I can make some plans and take some action. The problem is I am not sure how to do that. But I watched a few of your videos and I think this is the place to start.

Incredibly spacious for a Paris apartment - beautifully and elegantly appointed. Love the colour palette. The use of mirrors always makes a space look light and airy. Furnishings are sublime. For me that’s large apartment, but I get for those from America, this would seem small. Love the use of lamps in the kitchen creates a warm ambiance. Making one’s world smaller has great benefit in freeing up one from stuff - the more square footage the more stuff and the more one is having to keep clean and tidy. And maintenance. It’s amazing what we can manage without and only have what brings us joy in creating a harmonious comfortable relaxing home. It’s an expression of oneself.

This woman lives in an alternate reality for the working class, middle class, even relatively affluent. This is NOT an average sized one bedroom apartment in Paris. I am from Europe, this is an affluent well-off woman able to pay for location, SIZE, and I think the phrase is rehabbing the space to her specifications. It may be nicely done but not achievable for most people.
@ rosaoddin4338You are right about the size, location etc., however one does not need to be wealthy. A smaller more ordinary and perhaps rented apartment may be transformed by a flair for design or by following the ideas of others, such as in this lovely video. Buying prudently at les puce or brocante is the secret of inexpensive beauty for many apartments and homes in France and everywhere else in the world😊
Having lived in Paris as a single person for 24 years (I'm now in Normandy), this apartment is quite the find. Perfect thart you created a real foyer, which I also consider really important. Also, the amount of storage space is exceptional (the French don't believe in closets, only armoires) - your decoration, though not my taste (I prefer Jean Royère or other French mid-century designers) is so naturally done that it doesn't feel decorated at all, which is the hardest design stunt to pull off. And I LOVE your window treatments, beautiful curtains. Brava

Size is deceiving...this is a small or regular sized apartment in Paris. 670 sq. feet or 63 sq. meters. But, I've learned as I've gotten older, that more space isn't what I need- because I then just fill it up with "stuff." Thank you for your kind words...yes, we never know how long each chapter will be so we have to try to find joy in each day.
Paris will always be my second home. I lived in Paris proper in a hotel for 4 months, just 1 block from the Etoil. Then moved to Poissy for 4 years. After all that time, I never learned French, but oh how I miss the taste of the French bread! I'd gige anything to eat that again. I love your apartment and if I were with the means, I'd be living there again!
I would dearly love to see another video showing in more detail where you store all your things in this beautiful apartment! I’m wondering where you keep all your office supplies, important papers, wardrobe, kitchenware, linens, toiletries, etc. I’m over 70, live in an apartment & it would be SO helpful! Well, there is a cave for this apartment in the cellar, where I store papers, unused furniture, holiday decorations, etc. but nothing that is fabric. Every one of the cupboards you saw in the bedroom has shelves up to the ceiling so there are loads of storage....and my bed has two big drawers under it where I store sheets, table linens, off season clothing. I think the key is to be creative and figure out ways to divide up and organize things in a cupboard.

Everything down to the added molding (or especially the molding) is my taste, exactly. I had to smile when you said the chairs are Pierre Frey as I have an entire Pinterest board on Pierre Frey. I lived in Germany and Austria for about 10 years when I was younger (am now 70) and so I’m not surprised by anything in your apt. I would have loved just a glimpse of the courtyard. Those are some of the loveliest perks of living in European cities (to me). I’m sure this is a different type of podcast for you but it is just right up my alley, I enjoyed it so very much. Lovely, welcoming, cozy home❤. The mirrors make the apartment elegant…and I also add lamps to my kitchen,powder room, bathroom, laundry room, even the walk in closet. Lamps transform the room from its technical origins to a homey space.

Everything is just perfect! The wallpaper in the foyer, the perfect cream colored walls, the art, the colors of the furnishings. You created continuity between the spaces, all while giving each its’ own special moment. Tres Magnifique!
I like the grey, off-white aesthetic with touches of gold: very elegant and highly liveable. Less is certainly more as they say and not everyone needs acres of space.
I just love it! It’s nice to get ideas from people- I often get frustrated because I want so much all at once but no funds! I then freeze because I get overwhelmed with the decorating process. I beautiful, cosy space is very important to me!
I'm working on my daughter's new home at the moment and there are wonderful things in consignment shops and resale shops....We went to a church rummage sale a few weeks ago and on the last day, everything was half off!! Keep looking and it will all come together. Thank you for your lovely comment!

@@marsery Très français ? It seems very international to me. A typical French apartment has mouldings, ceiling roses, marble fireplaces… - which give it a soul. This one is not bad taste, it is just nothing special.
In my mind, absolute perfection. So serene and beautiful. Choosing a one bedroom and prioritizing storage in beautiful ways, can really free up your decorating budget and time spent cleaning. Adding in gorgeous mirrors and draperies, and a cohesive color scheme in a small space really helps expand it. Bravo. 👏🏼🌹

I liked the bed and headboard and bedroom the best, with the breeze from windows. That would be Heaven to sleep in that room. Next, the kitchen was inviting to have a nice coffee or tea with a croissant or 2.

Mirrors are wonderful! I feel like I am moving! We are getting a tiled floor soon, so we are going through drawers and putting things in tubs to simplify. I say that as an owner of 3 sewing machines, and we are donating things. My things and art are such a part of home to me. I once was promised a month in a friend’s apartment in FRANCE. That was so long ago. Thanks for sharing a modest escape that is more reachable than buying a chateau in France!

While I could never afford an apartment like this, it has great design inspiration to use in any size space. Even tiny spaces! The balance between elegance and function is perfect!
Love love your apartment but one idea I had that you could do that I think would be a lot of fun and beautiful, but do with it what you will as it’s your home. But I would remove the venting panels in the armoire and I would find some beautiful Parisian fabric and replace the venting grid in the armoire doors with beautiful fabric pleated and then your TV would be completely hidden and it would give character to the armoire and it would be fun to find beautiful Parisian fabric for it. And with it being a minimal space for fabric it can still be affordable to go $$ on fabric as it would be a focal piece in your room. :)

I love the separation of the foyer. I did that to my townhouse. I put wallpaper to section off the space from the front door, coat closet and half bath. Love the commode, at 8:03. I'm going to an antique shop this summer to look for a piece like this one. I have just the place for it. Kitchen lamp is great with the colorful shade. I have bought lamps with boring shades (do they ALL have to be white?), then I went to the fabric store and bought a yard of a gorgeous color. I attached it to the lamp shade, using a glue gun on the top and bottom. It turned out great! Not hard to do. Good job here in your apartment.

Absolutely beautiful! For one person it is plenty big. Less is more. Having a small home means you have to spend less time cleaning it, which frees you up to go out and enjoy life.
True but I have always found small spaces harder to clean. Probably because less actual floor space so everything must be moved around in order to clean.

In Paris, this is NOT what you call a "small" apartment, this is a fairly nicely sized one.
...for a one-bedroom flat as she calls it. Let's not forget, she downsized from a 2-bed to a 1. Still plenty of space.
I called it small myself but it is larger than others I’ve seen. Surely looks like it LIVES large! Beautiful!!

You’ve done an amazing job at making a plain apartment look like a mini chateau! I’ve just divorced after 20 years of marriage and moved into a an apartment of the same size. You gave me lot of ideas on how to make it look special. I have already thought about antique furniture with character but also loved your tips about handles and knobs and also that gorgeous wallpaper in the hallway. Loved it! I am also impressed on how you have managed to create storage. Wish you all luck with your future endeavours!

We decided to downsize and my hubby passed 3 weeks after we moved in. It was difficult but now I am so glad we had moved and I love my 2 bed apartment with sea views.

@@extraordinarywomennextchapter We moved from an apartment to a house but only because our kids still live with us (they're both in college). Anyhow, while in the apartment a lot of our stuff was in storage for that whole year and a half, only getting the Christmas decorations when needed and then returning it. Anyhow, that really made me realize when we moved into a house again that we really don't need too much things to be happy and comfortable and that more than half of those things I did not need once, so I got rid of stuff and I'm still trying to get rid of more because I didn't miss it. Although, I don't have much things like most people do, sometimes I feel like I have too much things still that I don't even need. Downsizing is a good thing and we are planning on doing it when the kids leave the nest.
I just found your channel. In the next few weeks I will be watching all your videos. I have been looking for something like this. Today I was told I am 20 months into remission from colon cancer. My doc thinks I will be just fine. Now that I know I will most likely not die from this I need to get on with the rest of my life. I hit the pause button because I was worried that if I started anything I might not be here to follow it through. So now I can make some plans and take some action. The problem is I am not sure how to do that. But I watched a few of your videos and I think this is the place to start.
Oh yes! I can't imagine what it must have been like to get that diagnosis but hopefully, you are now on the mend and you can let yourself dream and plan again. Welcome to designing your next chapter!!!

Incredibly spacious for a Paris apartment - beautifully and elegantly appointed. Love the colour palette. The use of mirrors always makes a space look light and airy. Furnishings are sublime. For me that’s large apartment, but I get for those from America, this would seem small. Love the use of lamps in the kitchen creates a warm ambiance. Making one’s world smaller has great benefit in freeing up one from stuff - the more square footage the more stuff and the more one is having to keep clean and tidy. And maintenance. It’s amazing what we can manage without and only have what brings us joy in creating a harmonious comfortable relaxing home. It’s an expression of oneself.

This woman lives in an alternate reality for the working class, middle class, even relatively affluent. This is NOT an average sized one bedroom apartment in Paris. I am from Europe, this is an affluent well-off woman able to pay for location, SIZE, and I think the phrase is rehabbing the space to her specifications. It may be nicely done but not achievable for most people.
I was going to say the same thing. She has to be wealthy. Out of my humble lifestyle.
Living tiny is relative. This to me is not small. I live in a cottage much tinier than this in Devon, England

A smaller more ordinary and perhaps rented apartment may be transformed by a flair for design or by following the ideas of others, such as in this lovely video. Buying prudently at les puce or brocante is the secret of inexpensive beauty for many apartments and homes in France and everywhere else in the world😊

Having lived in Paris as a single person for 24 years (I'm now in Normandy), this apartment is quite the find. Perfect thart you created a real foyer, which I also consider really important. Also, the amount of storage space is exceptional (the French don't believe in closets, only armoires) - your decoration, though not my taste (I prefer Jean Royère or other French mid-century designers) is so naturally done that it doesn't feel decorated at all, which is the hardest design stunt to pull off. And I LOVE your window treatments, beautiful curtains. Brava

Size is deceiving...this is a small or regular sized apartment in Paris. 670 sq. feet or 63 sq. meters. But, I've learned as I've gotten older, that more space isn't what I need- because I then just fill it up with "stuff." Thank you for your kind words...yes, we never know how long each chapter will be so we have to try to find joy in each day.

Paris will always be my second home. I lived in Paris proper in a hotel for 4 months, just 1 block from the Etoil. Then moved to Poissy for 4 years. After all that time, I never learned French, but oh how I miss the taste of the French bread! I'd gige anything to eat that again. I love your apartment and if I were with the means, I'd be living there again!

I would dearly love to see another video showing in more detail where you store all your things in this beautiful apartment! I’m wondering where you keep all your office supplies, important papers, wardrobe, kitchenware, linens, toiletries, etc. I’m over 70, live in an apartment & it would be SO helpful! I’m sure you have done such a good job of curating during downsizing (which is a beautiful idea to me). Oh, Please Do!
Well, there is a cave for this apartment in the cellar, where I store papers, unused furniture, holiday decorations, etc. but nothing that is fabric. Every one of the cupboards you saw in the bedroom has shelves up to the ceiling so there are loads of storage....and my bed has two big drawers under it where I store sheets, table linens, off season clothing. I think the key is to be creative and figure out ways to divide up and organize things in a cupboard.

I absolutely LOVED your tour and your Paris apt. It’s lovely and is exactly what I’d strive for if I lived there. Everything down to the added molding (or especially the molding) is my taste, exactly. I had to smile when you said the chairs are Pierre Frey as I have an entire Pinterest board on Pierre Frey. I lived in Germany and Austria for about 10 years when I was younger (am now 70) and so I’m not surprised by anything in your apt. I would have loved just a glimpse of the courtyard. Those are some of the loveliest perks of living in European cities (to me). I’m sure this is a different type of podcast for you but it is just right up my alley, I enjoyed it so very much. Lovely, welcoming, cozy home❤. The mirrors make the apartment elegant…and I also add lamps to my kitchen,powder room, bathroom, laundry room, even the walk in closet. Lamps transform the room from its technical origins to a homey space.

I just love it! It’s nice to get ideas from people- I often get frustrated because I want so much all at once but no funds! I then freeze because I get overwhelmed with the decorating process. I beautiful, cosy space is very important to me!
I'm working on my daughter's new home at the moment and there are wonderful things in consignment shops and resale shops....We went to a church rummage sale a few weeks ago and on the last day, everything was half off!! Keep looking and it will all come together. Thank you for your lovely comment!

I truly love your style. I’m a 59 year old Texian and came from country folk, but it’s always been very important to me that I learn as much as possible in each chapter of my life. I am so thankful to learn from you that the gorgeous dressers in your apartment are actually called “ commodes” instead of while standing in the entry way of a Parisian apartment and having the shock and confusion show vividly on my face! ❤
Very funny...yes, language references change from country to country! So many people have shared what they "know" a commode to be, which is not a dresser. If you asked for a dresser in France, they would think that is a person who dresses you!! Thanks for joining me.

Mirrors are wonderful! I feel like I am moving! We are getting a tiled floor soon, so we are going through drawers and putting things in tubs to simplify. I say that as an owner of 3 sewing machines, and we are donating things. My things and art are such a part of home to me. I once was promised a month in a friend’s apartment in FRANCE. While I could never afford an apartment like this, it has great design inspiration to use in any size space. Even tiny spaces! The balance between elegance and function is perfect!
Love love your apartment but one idea I had that you could do that I think would be a lot of fun and beautiful, but do with it what you will as it’s your home. But I would remove the venting panels in the armoire and I would find some beautiful Parisian fabric and replace the venting grid in the armoire doors with beautiful fabric pleated and then your TV would be completely hidden and it would give character to the armoire and it would be fun to find beautiful Parisian fabric for it. And with it being a minimal space for fabric it can still be affordable to go $$ on fabric as it would be a focal piece in your room. :)

they were a total find at the marcé..never thought I'd like anything in that style, but I fell in love with those lamps!
I love the separation of the foyer. I did that to my townhouse. I put wallpaper to section off the space from the front door, coat closet and half bath.
Love the commode, at 8:03. I'm going to an antique shop this summer to look for a piece like this one. I have just the place for it.
Kitchen lamp is great with the colorful shade. I have bought lamps with boring shades (do they ALL have to be white?), then I went to the fabric store and bought a yard of a gorgeous color. I attached it to the lamp shade, using a glue gun on the top and bottom. It turned out great! Not hard to do. Good job here in your apartment.

Very cute...the shades make the lamps. The shades were new, the lamps from a brocante (flea market).

Love your style... what is the m2? My suggestion is put fabric/netting behind the wire mesh on the tv wardrobe, seeing the tv is odd looking.
