    "Something I can't say on youtube" has to be my new favorite insult :D
    Love these tips! A while back I also decided not to gossip. I've actually distanced myself from some friends since then because I suddenly became aware of how much they gossiped. Not just because of the negativity, but also because it's difficult to trust someone when you never know what they are going to say about you as soon as you are not around.

    I read the no kill “policy” in a book a little while ago, and I rolled my eyes. After a while started to make sense. If we keep our house clean and our life, the bugs stay away where they belong, so we don’t have to use energy killing anything and filling ourselves with negative energy. I love this policy because i have huge compassion for animals of all sort!

    Very very good tips Vera thank you. Except for the no kill policy, I have actually applied all of your recommended tips in the past few years in my own life, slowly and gradually one by one and I am so happy to see all of them on your list here, reassuring me that yes none of these are "weird" 🥰

    Your tips make perfect sense and I agree with them. One spider tip for you, which you might know already, and bug tip in general. Spiders hate the smell of peppermint and bugs hate the smell of e.g. tea tree oil, lavender, orange and lemon grass. What I do in the summers is make an oil mix with all these (the smell can be a little intense at first but it's quite refreshing), and spray around open windows and on the handrail of the balcony. No bugs came inside and it doesn't harm them. :D

      @SimpleHappyZen  6 лет назад

      Aw thanks Roger Moon 😊 I understand. If I actually had a bug problem like roaches, I'd feel bad about it but I'd probably do something about it, otherwise it's just not healthy and I would not feel comfortable in my own home. I just don't believe in killing innocent bugs 😊 The downside is that I now have 6 mosquito bites on my left arm alone 😂

    I’ve been trying meditation and reading about Buddhism for about a year. I ran across your RUclips channel recently and am enjoying the videos. I am trying some of your happiness tips before I saw this video and they do help. I am not perfect in them but keep trying. No tip you gave is weird if they work for you. The one thing I forget is that I need to be true to myself and however I find ways that work for me are fine. It’s hard but it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I tend to forget that sometimes. Thank you for these videos, I have enjoyed them tremendously!

    1. This is so sweet that you don't kill mosquitoes! Unfortunately for me though, I have to, I live next to: the beach, a river, and a swamp (in Brazil), so there are hundreds of mosquitoes to deal with everyday, it's not a choice to let them suck my blood, I have to kill them for my own safety as a living being too. About flies or other bugs though, I let them live even if I'm a little bothered of them. I mean, they're just living :/
    2. Yes, some people seem to feel happy when someone does something embarassing so they can talk about them, I always hated this. There are so many subjects to talk about, the world is so big (and already so mean), we don't need gossip x.x
    3. This has got to be the hardest one! lol, It's who I want to be, though, someone who kinda teaches people they don't need to be rude, it might not work with them directly, but observers, they'll be like: "Wow she doesn't even care that guy called her ugly, she is so secure and peaceful, I wanna be like that too!" and that would be awesome

    Regarding #4 about walking pace. The way we walk, the pace we choose is so individual. I love this story for perspective... A man is walking along the Path of Life and comes upon a Holy Woman walking slowing. "Holy Woman, why do you walk so slowing along the Path of Life?" The Holy Woman answers: "Because I see more that way." The man continues and sometime later sees a Holy Woman walking very quickly. He asks, "Holy Woman why do you walk so quickly upon the Path of Life?" The Holy Woman answers: "Because I see more that way."

    The first one is surprising because pests like flies, mosquitoes, mice and other living pests can definitely bring disease to humans. Mosquitoes cause a lot of disease here in Florida we are very aware of this. Imagine if mice and rats would not have been killed during the bubonic plague. Also I just had my house fumigated for termites which where eating up all the would and destroying my home. I’m ok killing pests that are damaging or could make me sick. I love all your other habits though.

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  4 года назад +2

      Hi! :) Yes I could have been a bit clearer in the video, that I mean harmless animals. For me, mosquitos and spiders in the Netherlands are pretty harmless. If it all possible, I let them be. Or I capture them and move them outside. Of course if they are dangerous, or becoming a pest, I understand that people have to protect themselves and their family.

    You can catch buggys with a big see-through container like those doggy biscuit containers and then get a flat cardboard better than paper so they won't come out easy and then you could release them outside they also have this wand thing that where you could catch a spider so you can release them outside I'll see if I can find the post for you the link
    Or just use the big container that I spoke of with the thin cardboard for the spiders too it's not hard to do

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for sharing Tammy! We usually catch them like that, with a glass and some paper. But it's a little scary if it's a big spider haha, because you have to get really close this way 😱

    • @HumAnimalBeingTammy
      @HumAnimalBeingTammy 2 года назад

      You're welcome but you don't have to get up close if you have a real big container meaning the container is much wider and easier to catch them

    Hi :) Thank you for your beautiful video! I don't think at all your tips are weird. I am wondering at which point people gave you a funny look... I agree on the things you say, especially on the part not to gossip or answering people in the same negative manner. However, I have a question. (Maybe this could be an idea for another video?) This attitude has a taste of holding the anger inside. I've tried this attitude and I still am, but even if I don't release my anger, I still feel it growing inside. So for example, there was an incident in the past, where a person really hurt my feelings by its behavior on purpose. I found some alternative ways to channel my feelings, but I still had to share my emotions with a friend what really helped me. In a certain way, I was also talking badly about this person. How do you cope with situations like this and when actions and emotions are not corresponding? How can you really forgive and be kind to a person you have problems with? And how can you overcome your feelings, but still staying true to yourself? (I really hope this makes sense :D) (Or maybe some other people who watched this video also want to share their experience and opinion?) I wish you a nice day ! :)

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  6 лет назад

      Alice from Wonderland Thanks for your question! I'll try to answer it, though I'm not perfect either :-) I try to deal with anger through Buddhist tradition, something I learned from Thich Nhat Hahn, a very wise Buddhist master. Anger is not something that comes from outside, that we need to let out again. It comes from inside, and we all have the seed of anger. Which can be useful, it is like the mud that allows lotus flowers of understanding, compassion and forgiveness to bloom. Whenever I feel anger, I try to notice it without judgment and accept it, take a few deep breaths. Simply looking at it from an outside perspective will make it less powerful. Talking with the person who hurt you or confiding in a friend can be wonderful, because voicing your feelings will instantly make you feel better. I'm not saying you should let people walk all over you, there's no room for toxic people in your life I feel. But the act of compassion and forgiveness can be very valuable. I hope it makes sense, maybe I'll make a video about it some day :-) Sending love, Vera

    I don't follow the no kill policy per se. I eat meat but am pushing for a more Mediterranean Diet. I use to kill bees and whatever I saw outside as a kid, but now if I kill a bug/pest, it's if they're in my house or making a nest on it (so they don't infest). I've tried not to kill little lizards but get them out the house (I moved to Florida). So I don't do it just to do it anymore. If I see things outside, I leave them alone. So it's not perfect but it's better than when I was a kid.
