Thank you Dr Chatterjee. I have recently retired after 47 years as a nurse. I have faced death in my vocation and in my personal life many times. As a child I would go with my mother to care for end of life neighbours in the UK. This is what my mother did with her mother. Caring for the families of these people. I eventually settled in community nursing. Loved it. Very difficult but fulfilling and real. In my personal life many deaths including my sisters and more recently my son. Got good advice from my doctor, not medication. I left work before my state pension. I don’t fear death, I fear the way of dying, but I try to alleviate risks with my lifestyle. I know my regrets, I know when I should have done things differently. I know I feared attempting so many things. Remember there is no going back. I’m 65, I feel I still have time to do something to make a change. I have achieved more since my sons death, I didn’t lock myself away. It’s the hardest things I’ve ever done. I had a psychological mask to make me appear happy, but bit by bit my ‘self’ appeared. Have to start with one step, and keep doing it. Best wishes.

From one physician to another... BRAVO 👏 I provide similar recommendations to some patients and their parents/caregivers and the response can be "Seriously? We can't do that. We didn't come here for this."... but, when a provider GENTLY LEANS IN, as you're literally doing here, and walks the walk themselves, shares their own journey with these issues, and is emotionally invested in their patients and families... the same way that you're palpably caring about us... it changes everything. I am SO grateful for your courage to be a compassionate truth teller. Thank you. Wishing everyone a healthy, prosperous, and joyous 2024 🙏

I am a 16 year old and I've come to a realisation. Over the past 2 years, I've been digging up with these exact thoughts, death, life, and career. And what is my goal? And what is my purpose? we can't blame this generation or this generation kids but being born in this generation. Sometimes, my brain freezes as well. I get brain paralysis. Sometimes I can't move from my phone, I get distracted. I don't pay attention. I procrastinate. I overthink. I get anxieties. I get panic attacks I. Am healing I am learning, and I am trying to be the best version of myself. I am trying to be kind. I am trying to control my anger, and these things are really hard each and every year. No one is born with a perfect life. But I wanna be the person who heals my inner child, and this video is really relatable to me. as a 16 year old I have so much to go, and I can die any moment I can die the moment i achieve my goals. I can die anytime, death is unknown, but every time when I wake up, I am grateful that I am alive and I know I will be dead someday and my social media, my every belongings will not matter anymore because I won't be here and these thoughts were always running in my head, and I've been journaling about this. And I really needed someone who speaks about these things. So I can finally relate and feel a bit relaxed. Thank you so much for this video. And I hope you have a very great day.

They will be so grateful and you will realize how valuable your life is. I know it’s not easy. I remember being 16. Please, give yourself the chance to enjoy and contribute and you will find your way. I believe in you. ❤

We all face the inevitability of death and the necessity of life. Like a bird with two wings, one representing death and the other life, if one falters, the bird might fall and die. Similarly, we must always keep both death and life-or fear and hope-in our minds at all times. Without this balance, we are lost.

Dr Rangan, I have no fear of death whatsoever. I'm 45, and since I was a teenager, I've been saying to people that ' we die every single night for 8 hours when we sleep. Wed have no idea who we are or where we are . We are dead until we wake up'. With regard to HOW we age, I was having a conversation at the gym the other day in the changing rooms with a 60 year old, and I was telling him how over 40 I quit smoking and drinking and cut out processed foods, and he told me ' well, I'm not going to quit smoking and drinking, just because it might add an extra 5 years to my life' and I said ' I don't care about adding years to my life, I quit those bad habits cos i FEEL: better mentally and physically'.

As someone who constantly struggle with health anxiety, the thought of death doesn't really push me into action. It immobilizes me more. Unless we count the insane amount of trips I've made to the hospital for whatever concern I have in those moments, thinking of dying has never really brought me anywhere. 😅 Although I hope some people can see this as a viable solution for their procrastination. In our scripture it is told to remember death daily and work.
It purify your thoughts. It always reminds you the impermanence of life, water drop on lotus leaf.
It prevents you from misdeed, motivates to contribute in the world and to leave a solid impact on other's life.
Nice to hear you to utter this philosophy of our scripture.

Dr. Chatterjee, you've done more for me on this podcast than any of the doctors I met (except my OBGYNs and the nurses who delivered by 2 babies). The healthcare system in US is horrendous, all the medical system does is to make the most out of the patients and there's no care for the benefit of the patient. The hospital bed is the most expensive bed in the world. I would stay away at all cost. Prevention works better than care. I hope there's more doctors like yourself and Dr. Garbor Mate.

    My Summary:
    -Daily Death meditation
Incision you are on deathbed ask yourself what are the top 3 things i wish I achieved most of in my life?
Reverse engineer it and for those action steps into your life to achieve it.
    -Quality of sleep
-Less screens more fractals and nature
-eliminate choice. Less choices/micro stress per day. Variety Is overrated
Premade lists, meal plan each day different meal.
Only keep the choices that really matter to you.
-Seek out friction. Social friction creates growth. Use it as a teacher to learn something about yourself
    -vitamin S (socializing)
Even superficial micro interactions with strangers
    -health snacks (mind, spirit, body)
Make it easy & habit stack.

As a family, we used to eat together everyday over years, when we were economically poor and struggled for basic needs. My mom used to share a fruit among four of us, even when that was all we had that day. By God's grace, we are self sufficient now. We live separate lives, far from each other; but the bond we developed during younger years keeps us close. The monetary status of families however does impact different people differently. It presents unimaginable consequences, especially for those in middle income or below poverty levels. These are the vast majority of us. When everyday survival is a challenge, we lose sight over the larger purpose of life. Contents like these from Dr. Chatterjee are invaluable tools for those who seek them. Thank you

I lost two parents this year - within 6 months of each. One got up one morning with an infection - went into hospital and never came out. She had just done a weeks shop the day before, and was looking forward to a new chocolate flavoured cheese cake. The other got out of bed after a good night sleep, got out her ironing board, sat down, and died.....with her iron still switched on and the starch drying on her shirts. That was it. Over. Not even the opportunity to romanticise on how their lives could have been better lived. Although, it would have been to make the lives of those around them better - and maybe only then indirectly their own lives.

If we learn the art of dying, we actually learn the art of living. Power lies in the present, that's why it's called "present" it's a gift that we have to realise each moment.
Really, appreciate your honest thoughts. May God give you more strength to fulfil your dreams of changing others lives for good! 🙏😊❤️

Thanks so much doctor for this podcast!!! What you said about screen time in particular really resonated with me. It's so sad to see parents, friends, and spouses ignoring the real human beings around them in favour of their screens... I'm old enough to remember a time before smartphones were invented, before the internet became mainstream, so I've seen this happen in our life time... It's genuinely sad and I think it's so important that we recognise this epidemic of screen addiction as a society and really do something about it. Than you Dr Chatterjee, I really enjoy your videos and have learnt so much from them :))

Embracing death it really essential. I'm still relatively young and healthy by all accounts, but I have already arranged everything so that in case of death, which essentially has nothing to do with age, my wealth will go to those I already named as heirs (a trusted buddhist monastery actually). For this very day or even hour may be the last, no one has absolutely any control over that.

You're right. I don't like food-buffets because the infinite choice leaves me with a lot of Fomo. I need to throw away all my clothes. I have no space for them and they are overflowing and the joy is gone.
EDIT - I also have a drinking problem ie I drink too much. SO when I go on my sober months, the one thing that I love is not having to think on whether I am going to drink or not. As the constant risk assessment, the pros and cons takes away so much with micro dose cortisol releases.

Thank you I loved this and happy to say I do all of these things and will continue to do so and have much gratitude that I do live this way. I start each day with a full body meditation which sets me up for the day, I take down time daily, I sleep more than 8 hours most night, never watch the news and still find out what is going on in the world, spend time in nature and am rarely on social media. When challenging things happen in life, which is part of life, I am able to navigate these things. Cheers to beautiful living 🙏

I recently thought about death and the relationship with sacrifice.
One might say that life is a sacrifice anyway, precisely because it ends. From that perspective, it makes sense to choose what we sacrifice ourselves for, because that will give death meaning, while if we avoid sacrifice, our bodily decay and death are just horrible events.
If we choose the sacrifice, we can embrace the price we have to pay anyway, and exactly that will make it bearable.
BTW: I'm not saying that we should strive to die, just that we consciously accept certain risks and certain consequences as being part of the price we pay for the life that we choose to live.

      -Daily Death meditation
On deathbed ask yourself what are the top 3 things i wish I achieved most of in my life?
      -Quality of sleep
-Less screens more fractals and nature
-eliminate choice. Less choices/micro stress per day. Variety Is overrated
Premade lists, meal plan each day different meal.
Only keep the choices that really matter to you.
-Seek out friction. Social friction creates growth. Use it as a teacher to learn something about yourself
      -vitamin S (socializing)
Even superficial micro interactions with strangers
-5min health snacks (mind, spirit, body)

I love your Podcasts. I learned about death very young in life with the loss of my mom and then my family split apart. I lost multiple people including my husband 25 years ago to cancer. I have always been more in tuned to death then most. I am a LMFT and have worked with loss with clients and have led grief groups for the last 25 years. We appreciate life more when we know it is limited here on earth. Thank you for speaking on issues that are hard for some to hear.

I would like to thank you for all your good work in helping to empower people to take care of their health & well being.
I trained years ago as an SRN nurse. I had to leave as to a large extent could not feel right about the system. For me it was about care & bedside manner not just pill pushing & gadgets. It was stressful working in that environment.
Later I became an Osteopath & Naturopath & could see people one to one & work with my hands. So fulfilling for me & my patients. I had time for them & so could explore root causes of whatever they showed up with.
You are still working within the system which I greatly admire.
Day by day you are tirelessly embodying your words as well as helping others to wake up in a holistic way.
Thank you for your vision. I love listening to you interview & hearing the repore with your guests. I love you share your own struggles & breakthroughs. Thank you❤
