    I just changed my battery today. Had to refer to your video to find the ground! I located the (+) easily on my own. Ty for continuing to post info. I love my car to pieces! THANKS for the bit about how to jump the battery properly. I didnt realize about the ground in the boot.

      Majority of European cars do have battery at the boot. This protects the battery from the heat of the engine and extreme cold during winter.

    Correct to only apply power under the hood if the trunk won't open. As for the trunk battery jump... the reason for not grounding directly to the battery itself is due to off gassing fumes. Batteries give off chemical gasses when charging or in hot ambient temperatures to release pressure inside the case. those gasses can explosive. you connect red/pos to battery & ground away in case there's any arcing/sparking to avoid fumes in the area... it's rare, but it can & thus, teach the safest way for the general public. it won't hurt anything hooking directly to the battery if it's well vented for awhile (remember when the trunk is closed, that's an enclosed environment. it doesn't' get the same airflow as a battery under the hood does). Most trunk batteries or batteries installed inside the passenger compartment will have a small rubber vent tube attached to the battery... that only relieves pressure in the case, fumes can still be there, so alternate ground is recommended. **Some luxury vehicles have TWO batteries in the trunk (like Bentley etc)... they do different things & you need to find out which one is the starting battery.
    **Also keep in mind, it takes more power (amperage) to crank over an engine when the battery is in the trunk, the starter is still all the way on the opposite end of the vehicle on the engine... so all that electrical power has to make it the full length of the vehicle (just like an extension cord loses some due to length/resistance) so make sure you have a good power source capable of it.

    The positive should be attached to your battery first then the negative to your earthing point. The reason it is not attached to the battery is to prevent any sparks which could ignite any battery fumes causing a battery explosion.

    Good advise on how to jump the battery in the trunk.

      It's because of all those fancy electonic features that are standard on the car. If the battery is not fully charged even it is 12.3 volts, it wouldn't start. The reason is, when you press the Start button all of those electronics will wake up and compete with other electronics to power on. You don't need to buy a flooded battery always AGM. The flooded battery will not last long, maybe 2 years max

    I had a feeling mine was draining also until one night, i was in the car and everything shut down like its supposed to and looked around and noticed the vanity mirror behind driver's side in the headliner was on even when it was closed. I pulled it away from headliner and just unplugged the connection. New mirror coming soon.

    I also have a 2011 Xjl , however I am having problems with the battery staying charged. I replace the alternator, but a new water pump, and replace the control manjania. Still, the battery would not hold a charge and the water is linking that cause the car to run hot. If possible can you jnform where is the battery manjania located and what maybe causing the car to run out as well. I like this car but I am really considering saving the car at this poknt😢

    Just be aware that this video isn't correct for 2015+ facelift cars onwards. You can jump start these cars from the fuse box under the bonnet. As well as the battery in the boot.

    Do you know about the adaptive dynamic fault?

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  Год назад

      Could be many causes to this. Sometimes a low battery voltage will cause this too.

    Due to battery issues there ia any chance to get gear box fault

      @XJLuxury  11 месяцев назад

      Yes there is. My battery was dying one day when I was driving and I got every fault code imaginable. Once I changed the battery it was back to normal.

    The alternator job is to hold the charge from the battery If it's not holding the charge it's not working

    So you can’t use your portable jumper to start the car?

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  10 месяцев назад +1

      It’s not recommended to do it that way but if need be you can just be careful because it can short out things on the car

  • @georgiarobinson65

    You can find out if you have a alternator problem by starting the car Taken off the cables off the battery if the car shuts off it's your alternator
