Really enjoyed your video, I am on my 11th Jaguar XJ, had my first 32 years ago and been through all the models, always bought them when they were about 3 to 3 1/2 years old. Just had one brand new one, a February 2011 LWB Luxury, had that one 8 1/2 years before a drunk wrote it off, I replaced it with a 2015 LWB Portfolio. I still have 2004 SWB Super V8 in red that I cannot bear to part with . I am lucky to have a local excellent main dealer that helps me out so much, been using them for over 30 years. I own a 2011 XJL SuperSport and I constantly get compliments on how beautiful my car looks. This 12 year old car is still sexy and the styling may not look vintage, but the sleekness of the styling is actually timeless. So it is just your opinion that the car isn’t attractive from the rear. I actually think the rear is unique and not made like any other car’s rear end which makes it attractive.
I think they are a fabulous looking limo. Just what Jag needed to bring the XJ into the 2000s. Agreed with the flat black C pillar comments, that's why the black works. But, I think the rear 3/4 view is spot on.
Enjoyed that. I test drove a couple and nearly bought a L Autobiography model. The plan was to pair it with an existing older S Max for tip duties, carrying bikes around etc but then the plan needed to change and I ended up getting a Q7 Vorsprung- similar but different but able to shift enough gear for climbing, camping, family holidays etc
It's bloody stunning?! You are 100% correct on that leaping Jaguar, it's horrid and lacks the intimidation/ aggression (for want of better words) of sitting in a Jaaaaaaag
I think it looks great 👍. I also like the rear end. It's a very well balanced design which makes use of the packaging space. Also, Charlie is doing right.
I bought one of these two years ago. Mine is a Portfolio with the same trimmings as the one in this video; at 47,800 miles, it’s interior barely shows any sign of wear. Bear in mind that I am a septuagenarian, and my previous car was a high mileage XJ 6 350 model, initially I was not over fond of the style change. However, I beg to differ with your comparison with the XF - which looks undistinguished & the huge aggressive frontal view looks out of place its shortened profile. Not so with the XJ Portfolio, when you have ow ione for two years, it certainly grows on you - it is not ‘pretty’ I agree, but truly lives up to the ordinal label given n they are really smooth and act superbly with medium application & only the ‘g’ force steadily felt against the self tightening seat harness, then you find yourself gliding past the 30mph sign at just that. There maybe more luxurious cars out there, but which other four door saloon gives you a B&W 1200watt stereo system, massage seats & a suede headlining, as well as all the extras you mentioned. Mine is the same black with cream interior, it takes a while to optimise the driving seat & all other personalised features & set the memory, go away for a four hour journey, and step out having none of the usual tiredness. You might say that after two years, I really love this car! And sorry, they do look the role as well. This ‘big cat’ is every bit what a Jaguar has always been
I absolutely loved my X351 XJ portfolio it was by far the best family sized cars I have ever owned much better than my BMWs Audi and Merc. Also James you are clearly blind the XJ looks cool.
I love my big cat. I walk out to it every morning and drool anew. It's stately, it's comfortable, it's well appointed and if I plant the right pedal there's not much stays side-by-side.
I remember when these came out my senior year. I honestly thought they looked amazing, and I still do. They have aged very well over the last decade even if they arent as stunning and gorgeous looking as its predecessor.
I have had two of these over the last 8 years. The most reliable and comfortable car I have ever used - and I have owned over 100. The Diesel of course - 50mpg and more than ample performance. As for the looks that is in the eye of the beholder. I think they look terrific, and I have owned at least one of every XJ ever made. The interior is exceptional. Mine is a daily while my weekend stable includes a 1994 XJS and a 1997 Bentley Turbo RL. And yes I enjoyed your review of the Bentley Turbo R too!
I've always preferred the old 4.2 XJR, which I think may be a good way to quench my barge habit, the fact they look completely villainous is just a bonus
I think it's a pretty car. I'd choose it over a 2014 Quattroporte but not over a 2017 one (because the later one has the updated interior), if the choice was between the two (in reality I'd be too concerned about reliability to consider buying either 😅)
I actually quite like the looks of this, especially the boaty interior and dashboard, still quite modern...just look at what an S Class interior looked like in 2010.
I had my first XJ (x308) at 19, XKR (x100) at 21, XJ (x351) at 26 and now my XKR (x150) at 29. Still have the x100 as a restoration project. Surprisingly cheap insurance when I was younger, although you pay for the difference in fuel. I'd rather pay for drinks for the v8 than the insurance any day! 😁
Usually agree on most things but your wrong here. Then X350 did a great job of hanging on to that classic jag look. But these also look fantastic - striking, modern, bold and handsome just as Jaguars have often been. They are fantastic things.
As a 22 year old 2016 XF driver, I can agree it's a great decision, especially given the low relative depreciation and how great it is to drive. However despite the claims from the comments, insurance is still an absolute pain and I dread to think how much worse it would have been without the 3 years no claims on the Yaris despite living in a alright area by insurer metrics and a low risk job. Also, it may be due to my own poor checks before buying it, but maintenance has been far from cheap so not quite a slam dunk decision.
As a jaguar xjl owner the grey looks amazing in every angle, the best car ever 😁 great review but don't forget the digital dash makes all the difference you press the chequered flag button and the clocks go red and you get more power the gear change is savage,, and you press snow mode and the clocks go bright blue and it kills most of the power
I've got a 2016 autobiography and I absolutely love it. I love the looks, front and back and it absolutely churns up & down the M40 with ease. Nice review though. It's deffo more sporty than a 7 series and it's a car you can enjoy driving. I've got a firestick set up for the rear TV screens for the kids, it's perfect. The autobiography comes with 360 top down parking which really helps with keeping your alloys scratch free. It is an arse to manoeuvre in drive threws, and forget multistorey car parks, way too long 😆😆 mpg is excellent, keep to the speed limit on the mway and it's returning around 55mpg and 38mpg/ish around town. Deffo a great purchase for anyone looking for a big well equipped saloon. A full service record is vital as the cranks can live a short life if the oil isn't serviced when necessary. Also timing belt change is every 7 years or 110k miles. Most of the problems tend to be sunroof rattles (easy fix) and door actuators, around £8 each. Infotainment system is decent but deffo worth upgrading through icebox auto and you'll get apple play & android auto. Strangely a lot of electrical problems with various modules tend to be rectified (so I'm told) by removing the battery connectors for 20 mins. Things like the onboard tracker and remote unlock & remote climate start you'll need to pay a subscription for, as does getting the up-to-date sat nav maps. Jaguar are still sending out infotainment updates despite the car being out of production. The last one I received was October last year 2022.
They aren't a bad looking thing, quite colour & wheel design sensitive. There are some really nice combinations, a red XJR would be my choice. Fully agree on the ride, I remember driving an early 351 & being disappointed by the ride especially compared with the 358s which we still had around. About 6 years went by & I drove a 351 again and the ride stood out again as being off for a car in it's class. 358, 250 & 150 all had an amazing level of suppleness without any wallowing regardless of the wheel & tyre package or derivative, 351 never managed it. That is what you get chasing the germanic "sportyness"....
I think this is a good looking car and was trying to make a big leap from the Jaguars of old. The rear isnt the best looking, but overall i think they did ok. They did a better job than BMW did with the 5 series and 7 series in 2003/2004.
It’s a thing of beauty, pace and grace. Absolutely superb in the 3.0 litre diesel configuration. The way it puts the power down to the road with it’s 700 nm of torque gives me a frisson of pleasure every time. It sweeps, swoops and glides. Beautiful. I’m nearly 80 and have driven them all. This is motoring Nirvana. Thank you Ian.
The Jagggg is a fine looking automobile. No problems there. The real irony, however, evidenced itself at the very beginning when describing the Audi RS-E-Tron GT as a grand tourer. A Grand Tourer indeed... provided your grand tour is less than 200 miles.
I personally think the x308 XJR is the most beautiful Jaguar made, it’s got the old school look but also modern enough to daily as I do with my XJR. The x351 in my opinion is beautiful and a proper jag, especially the XJR version.
I can actually feel with you regarding the looks, I thought the same until I totally fell in love with it several years ago. Now I'm a very proud and lucky owner of a supersport and I cannot think of any better or more beautiful car in my opinion. I totally love this thing, If you have the opportunity, go for it😍
Great video as always, I do disagree on the looks, I wouldn't necessarily say its pretty, but id say its good looking, and I have never really been put off by the rear. I really would love to own one some day, however at the age of 19 I doubt that'll be anytime soon. I have always been a big Jag fan, so I am on the look for a Mk1 XFS, to replace my Mk4 Mondeo.
lad by mine has a beautiful red xjr with i assume a straight through exhaust cos it sounds absolutely brutal. never fails to put a smile on my face cos he doesn't drive it like a usual jaaag owner
Lad reminds me of me when I was 21 used to get crap all the time for my cars ( e classes , jag xj40’s , xf’s ) cause I couldn’t understand why people would pay for a bag of McDonald’s chips (a corsa) appose you having a highly deprecated luxury car that’s well over £50k new made no sense to me. Used to look at them and laugh in there sh*tboxes 😂
I have a 2019 Jaguar XJL. I brought it 2 years ago with only 18 thousand miles on it. A drop dead gorgeous car. A large full size luxury automobile which tesla dosent even make. Very enjoyable to drive and delivers a range of 570 miles. Paid off at 41K, White with a nice tan interior, rear passenger entertainment package. When the time comes to buy another car, I'm definitely going to buy another Jaguar XJL...
It's a perfectly good looking car, it's just missing that special Jaguar-ness. The older XJ, you could see it from a mile away and it was unmistakably a Jag. This one, if you replaced the badges with, say, Buick badges I'd believe it.
I am on my second xjl it was a choice between an s class Mercedes or xjl. Opted for an xjl. What a car. It’s a 3 litre twin turbo. The performance is something else. Currently have a 2013 portfolio optional extras wooden steering wheel, rear entertainment, illumination pack, digital tv. I do a lot of motorway driving and this car averages 53mpg.Driving it normally around town on the way out a quite road and I floored it…..I thought someone hit me up the back my god it’s quick. I was propelled to in excess of national speed limit. Have since tried it in dynamic mode that’s another story. I can’t recommend these cars enough.
Well done Charlie, a man after my own heart, I bought an X308 XJR at 20, though somewhat less successfully, it was a case of never meet your heroes, epically unreliable and just didn’t have that jag ride and felt blunted by its auto box. Looking for either a 2012-14 super sport or a post 2016 R-sport. Bit concerned by jays comments on the ride though, my brief stints in a few Uber lux rides (though usually a few bevvies down) always have the impression it was at least on a par with a 7 series/a8 of the same vintage, and have never really ‘got’ the s-class are super refined thing, they just aren’t!
I absolutely adore this car. I had an 2010 that got stolen😢! I couldn't live with anything less than an XJ. I got myself an 2013 XKR but i still miss the XJ a lot.
I own a Jaguar XF. Jaguars are just amazing machines, so stylish and biritish. After 10 years they're still great looking, even way better than some last gen bmw, audi and mercedes! Jaguars are timeless! (of course I'm not talking about the terrible suv)
We will have to agree to disagree. It won Automotive Magazine Car Design of the year award the year it came out and I own the first and only XJL Supercharged in Germany as mine is an 2010 American Model and they only sold the Supersport here and it would stop people in their tracks every time I drove by. I had my C-Pillars painted body color before I picked it up because I didn’t like the black ones. I’ve had some issues but I still love this car to this day!
I believe what makes this car stand head over shoulders is its beautiful leather dash and centre console way ahead of its time when it first came out, and in 2024 is still very sexy.
i loved my 2004 xjr and its one of the few cars i've owned i wish i didn't sell. i like the 351 but i would never own one with less than a 5.0 and probably not less than the 470hp here in the US. racing green or blue with the biscuit interior. they made a last year collection edition of 300 that would be the one to get . never seen a 575 for sale.
20 y o with big exec car, good man! Did the same when I was 20 in 1981 - 1st car was a Rover P6, 2000, all my mates were driving escorts, minis, vivas or chevettes etc, for the same money I got a car with comfort, and really solid build, not the bine shakers they were driving, natufally they all took the pee put of me but I couldn't care less 😁 it was great, and yes the insurance was cheap which amazed me at the time too.
Great car, side profile I think looks sleek BUT it’s a pity you did not present the XJL Autobiography…??? Now THATS one hell of a car, and I can vouch for that, mine is in white with tan interior ….. wonderful …. Nearly as vibrant as your shirts !!! 👍
I have no idea how anyone can look at a jag XJL and not think it’s good looking. It’s absolutely stunning inside and out. Sheer luxury and an absolute tank. Superb car. Much better looking than the XF and XE in my opinion
I bought an XJR long base last year in November. It's a beautiful looking car. When I pull beside other luxury cars like Mercedes S class, BMW 7 series and Audi A8, I catch owners all looking and checking out my car. Not sure how u don't like its look, when like the Quattroporte lol. The XJR looks a 100 times better.
I think the looks of the car are definitely love it or hate it, but for me personally, it's the second best looking 4 door saloon ever made (second only to a Quattroporte GTS)! However I do think anyone who likes the classic Jaguar look would hate the X351. Definitely see a later X351 XJR in my future, there's just nothing about it that I dislike, absolute dream daily 😊

I actually think the rear is unique and not made like any other car’s rear end which makes it attractive.
I've seen someone call this Jag XJ the most beautiful thing on 4 wheels. And for me it's up there, definitely. For looks, this beats the Maserati.
Sorry Jay, but this jag is just BEAUTIFUL. any angle, front or back, just beautiful
I really like it's looks, I don't think the back end is terrible, it's actually really nice.
I think they are a fabulous looking limo. Just what Jag needed to bring the XJ into the 2000s. Agreed with the flat black C pillar comments, that's why the black works. But, I think the rear 3/4 view is spot on.
I think they are very good looking, rear is nice too.
I salivate every time I see one of those big Jag XJ's. I just love every thing about them including the looks.
I think it looks great - as said, not many big saloons are pretty (well, except the older model mercedes CLS, which still looks wonderful).
My XJ is very pretty because it is silver with off white leather, a wood rim steering wheel and non-blacked out windows. It really is magnificent.
I love my big cat. I walk out to it every morning and drool anew. It's stately, it's comfortable, it's well appointed and if I plant the right pedal there's not much stays side-by-side.
I love the way this thing looks 👌🏾 I'm a fan of the more 'Retro' models too tbh. I operate on both frequencies of old and new
I remember when these came out my senior year.
I've always preferred the old 4.2 XJR, which I think may be a good way to quench my barge habit, the fact they look completely villainous is just a bonus
the x358 in black is ridicilously good
I think it's a pretty car. I'd choose it over a 2014 Quattroporte but not over a 2017 one (because the later one has the updated interior), if the choice was between the two (in reality I'd be too concerned about reliability to consider buying either 😅)
The rear makes this car what it is. Beautiful.
White XJR with dark windows is a magnificent looking beast
My brother had a white one with black out panoramic roof too.
It all had people looking at you, oozing CLASS with 20" multi spokes.
I actually quite like the looks of this, especially the boaty interior and dashboard, still quite modern...just look at what an S Class interior looked like in 2010.
I do think for its size it looks ok, certainly better than the 7 series.
The two tone Black and Tan interior is perfect in this. I have it in my e60 as well and imo it’s the nicest spec you’ve can get in the non M variants
The most beautiful looking jag ever
Funny thing is taste. I think this is the best looking xj.
From some angles I think the it looks stunning and from others awkward but for sure it has the best interior of an XJ ever and congrats to Charlie.
As a owner of a 1984 VDP and the xj351, I think the designers finally got it right since the series 3.
Glad to know I’m not the only 20 year old Xjl owner ❤️
I’d love one at 20, what’s the insurance like for you?
$580 a month, car Just broke down sadly. Only been 2 months
"Not very pretty"?!?!?! I think it's one of, if not *the* prettiest car on the road!
Surprised you haven't had a x358... I've a x358 XJR and it's perfection 👌🏼
@@SirMrShanks there's still time!
I've wanted one of these for years... don't even need to watch this video to know i'm going to love it; Jay Emm and old barges go hand in hand!
Buy it! You will not regret it!
This s a damn good looking car.. One of Jags best!
in my opinion I like the rear end but I agree on the side view - it’s kinda odd but you can always color it and improve it
These look stunning, I think the best view is from the back and side, I find the front a little boring, face-lift looked better
In my opinion the previous generation knocks this out of the park in terms of looks.
The Jagggg is a fine looking automobile. No problems there.
The real irony, however, evidenced itself at the very beginning when describing the Audi RS-E-Tron GT as a grand tourer.
A Grand Tourer indeed... provided your grand tour is less than 200 miles.
Jaguars are just so drop dead gorgeous. It just really sucks that they’re so unreliable
I totally love this thing, If you have the opportunity, go for it😍
When I was in my 20's I had a mk.5. Cortina 1.6 GL Auto!
This generation of XJ is brilliant, I’ve got a SWB in Portfolio trim.
Cool ride ...smart move by the young owner. Sharp choice
Those XJs are friggin gorgeous
The Jaguar XJL is undoubtedly a very good looking car... especially its tail lights...
lad by mine has a beautiful red xjr with i assume a straight through exhaust cos it sounds absolutely brutal. never fails to put a smile on my face cos he doesn't drive it like a usual jaaag owner
Well done, it's called,
"Function before Fashion."
Or a Halford Special.
Enjoy the details of COMFORT Sir!!
Good on Charlie for carrying the young bargeist torch forward.
Another wonderful review but my God Jay are you going blind man? This is a beautiful looking thing!
And another to disagree, I think they look look fantastic, either as a super sport or the late R sport
Charlie's doing well. Here In Aus, these still command A$50k plus at the low end. Big fan
I absolutely adore this car. I had an 2010 that got stolen😢! I couldn't live with anything less than an XJ. I got myself an 2013 XKR but i still miss the XJ a lot.
I always choose big sedans over any kind of car just find it better looking
I own a Jaguar XF.
Jaguars are just amazing machines, so stylish and biritish.
After 10 years they're still great looking, even way better than some last gen bmw, audi and mercedes!
Jaguars are timeless! (of course I'm not talking about the terrible suv)
The quattroporte is hideous
This Jaguar XJ ( X351 ) is such a beautiful-looking car
i loved my 2004 xjr and its one of the few cars i've owned i wish i didn't sell. i like the 351 but i would never own one with less than a 5.0 and probably not less than the 470hp here in the US. racing green or blue with the biscuit interior. they made a last year collection edition of 300 that would be the one to get . never seen a 575 for sale.
I own a 2014 XJL and the rear is my favorite angle 😁
Always nice to see a Jaaaaaaaaaaag.
Now we gotta go off and “borrow” an oil painting.
Yes, I actually think this is a good looking car.
I'm 21 and just ran an insurance quote for this Jag, £1900 for a year. I'm £350 for my turbo mx5 and £650 for a Mk7 mountune fiesta ST
I like the look of this model XJ ....you can tell its a Jag as it looks so different to the other big saloons
