Starting from where the game did, it's hard to pull the audience back into understanding that character's perspective. This will give them a chance to build her up before then so you can better accept how things turn out from her perspective.

Tv it's not the same format. The issue with the game was that it made you play half the game hunting down Abby and then tried to make you understand why she did everything. The narrative structure of the game was a bad choice. The tv show won't have that problem. The story is great, it's just that the game tried to be a tv show too much and forgot you are not a passive watcher here and after 15 hours of hating someone you have to play as said character. This wouldn't have happened if the narrative would jump back and fort between Ellie and Abby from the begining.

Tv it's not the same format. The issue with the game was that it made you play half the game hunting down Abby and then tried to make you understand why she did everything.
The narrative structure of the game was a bad choice. The tv show won't have that problem.
The story is great, it's just that the game tried to be a tv show too much and forgot you are not a passive watcher here and after 15 hours of hating someone you have to play as said character.
This wouldn't have happened if the narrative would jump back and fort between Ellie and Abby from the begining.
