  • How to replace the coolant tank on a 11-15 Jaguar XJ
    Save Money tip:
Ask your dealer to price match another dealer.
Ex: My dealer was selling this coolant tank for $195 but another one also in FL had it for $135. They looked it up on their website and sold it for $135+tax. (I've done this maybe 2-3 times in the last year and they honored the discounted price every time.

Daniel Spasic hi Daniel; it’s the sensor that’s inside the tank that fails. But from what I seen online is it’s easier to just replace the tank vs trying to just replace the sensor. And sensors alone on eBay have horrible reviews that they are very hard to install and might leak too.
      Thanks.

Thanks again Edward! I completed this replacement by myself. With your help of course. I clamped the hoses to keep the fluid inside. One problem I did have was. I was too rough detaching the clip on the plug and dropped it into the engine. just a heads up for anyone else who plans to take this job on.

Sometimes, giving the hood a little extra push after closing it does the trick. If not it's most likely the sensor.

My Jaguar XF 2010 has been showing the coolant level low. We have to put water in the tank every day maybe like every 20mins while driving. We got our water tank replaced and there are no visible leakings not sure what’s wrong with the car. We were going to take it to Jaguar however they charged 292 just to diagnose.

Check the coolant is not mixing with the engine oil. If it isn't, then under the throttle body is a plastic 5-way connector - this splits and leaks (happened on both of my XF's). Just check with a light/ torch in that area before pulling everything apart. Should be leaked coolant around there if that's the problem.

I have a 2012 XJL 5.0. My Low coolant light came on but there are no signs of a leakage and the coolant level in the reserve tank stays just below the fill/full line. However, When I add or top off the reserve tank with coolant, the light goes off and after a bit of driving it returns to the low level and stays there just below the fill/full line. Still no signs of leakage! But I do smell a hint of coolant with the air on. I am assuming the Tank may be cracked or leaking somehow, but shows no signs

It's easy to see seeping from water pumps, Any tech can see that. Some early water res. tanks have a poorly designed float that no longer works and just stays at the bottom of tank causing you to see low coolant light. The problem if you have a supercharger, is the cheap crap $30. plastic water pipe under the SC will start leaking at the joint. AND if your warranty is up, it costs $1600 to take off and on the Supercharger to just replace that crappy plastic pipe. SO, replace all the plastic pipes while you replace the water pump. They have upgraded parts hoping they work longer, But, good luck. I had to pay.

THE sensor is INSIDE the tank. I DO NOT BELIEVE it is replaceable as it WAS on the X350/X358 Series Jaguars. IMPORTANT, the SENSOR is made for O.A.T. coolant* @ 50/50. Any other coolant & it may not work properly! DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU ARE TOLD BY SOME MECHANICS AND/OR PARTS SELLERS! The world has changed & you have retail associates instead of automotive parts sellers. THINK OF ANY PARTS SUPPLY AS TARGET FOR CARS & expect the same level of knowledge! Associates are told to follow the database but they are programmed incorrectly sometimes! ESPECIALLY ON CARS LIKE OURS! (*Organic Acid Technology is best for Jaguar's Aluminum Engine & associated circuitry. ALL PURPOSE Coolant is for Flintstone Mobiles!)
