    Thank you for video , my problem is slightly different, when I start the car the sunroof opens which isn't great when you live in England 😂 the only to close is keeping finger on close button and turn ignition off and open door as that kills the power to the motor . I have tried the re set method

    I'm glad that i found this video before i took 2013 jaguar xj to the dealer.! My front sunshade suddenly won't close.! The back sunshade works just fine though.! But in my case I'm not hearing any type of grinding noise when i push the button to try and close it.! Do you think i can do what you did to fix my issue.?

    Hello. First of all, thank you so much for the video. I have a 2014 XJL and i’m in trouble with the sunroof. What i would like to ask; have you ever removed the panel in front of the sunroof (outside the vehicle, between the windshield and the sunroof)? If yes, could you please how to do this? I saw a trace of rust in the sunroof channel, and I'm afraid this rust is going under the panel I was talking about. If i can remove this panel, i want to see how bad the situation is; and i want to clean and paint it well. Thank you.

    I am about to purchase an XJL of the same model year and this seems to be the only problem with it. Hearing a grinding noise when trying to close it. And the dealer wanted to charge me $1800 as well. I will be trying this instead. Were you able to pull the sunshade closed manually?

    • @alaypatel8358
      @alaypatel8358  4 года назад

      It would just retract because they are spring loaded. So when I was trying to figure out the issue. I took off the whole roof. And it is like those spring curtains.

    My shade popped open the other day when I went to open it. The motor runs, and I can feel the roller turning the different directions , opening, and closing, but just stays open. When it's in the closed option, I can manually pull the shade out, but the spring tension pulls it back in.
    Is this anything like yours was doing?

      Does it make grinding noise. Because if it does you have to open the rear side of the headliner. Because what happens is that the system is built to open then close. your is already stuck in open position. There is a long spring looking rod that rotates when the motor turns. And that is the mechanism that opens and closes the shade. So if you open up the headliner you will see a thick looking cable. Like a break cable on a bicycle. All you have to do is remove the cover and remove the motor, then push that cable forward. Meaning push forward direction toward the driver from the back seat. After you do that leave enough of the cable for the motor to catch on then put everything back. If it still makes the grinding noise you have to unplug the cable I showed in the vide then plug it back in.

    My 2011 XJ has this strange issue ..... I was reading your post on this issue so I went out to my car and without taking anything apart got in my back seat to check to see if I could open rear Shade cause it was not working from the Drivers controls/ to include Rear back window Shade....... Oddly enough The back seat control actually worked ( Both sunroof shade and rear back window shade ...... Hopefully using your disconnection/reconnection method will resolve the issue with front shade and front sunroof not responding, I'm really fed up with the dollar amount I have spent at Jaguar Service !!! Question Alay ...... Were you just having a shade issue or combo of shares and Sunroof not working ???

    • @alaypatel8358
      @alaypatel8358  4 года назад

      CEHillery so my front shade was not operating and was making a grinding noise. So for you it has to be the system being confused. Some times just unplugging the panel in the front. Try that first. The disconnect the cable I showed u in the video.

    • @jonathaniancooper1
      @jonathaniancooper1 Год назад +1

      Incidentally, if you get a grinding noise then the mechanism is not engaging with the plastic clips at the side of the sunblind. I had a nasty noise and broken rail clip and i replaced it. I had to pull the roof lining down a little in order to fit a new one. You pull the blind at a diagonal angle to get a new one in. Once you have it back in the track make sure the motor is in the closed position and when it retracts it should then engage properly with the track mechanism.

    • @alaypatel8358

      Look at speakers, shades, water pump, and especially sunroof. If you are planning on using it as a primary car and live in a snowy place. Consider twice because jaguars are mostly rear wheel and don’t drive good in snow. It is likely that you will have problems. My car was only at 26k when I bought it.

      @@kingrubio3976 Also keep in mind that every part on these cars is way expensive and it seems like every time I take mine in to the dealership for any issue, they want to do more work on it for some odd reason. I had just them put 2 new tires on the rear 6 months ago. I drove it less than 3 or 4 hundred miles and when I took it in for a service check a week ago, they said It looks like I could use some new tires. I laughed that one off of course. When I left the dealership, about 15 mins down the road, I went to open my sun shade and boom, it wasn't working. Only making a grinding sound. I am parking mine for a long while since I've spent nearly 5 grand this year on what they call a little love for my car. Tired of taking it in just so something else can go wrong. Very suspicious of my dealership indeed. Also their valet service is somewhat of a joke anymore and they almost always pass my house even when I am standing at the driveway with a sign in my hand. So much for unbeatable service!!!

    I'm maybe being a bit stupid here. But rather than pull the roof apart to pull the lead out & plug back in. Wouldn't just disconnecting the battery & re connecting do the same thing? But quicker

    • @alaypatel8358
      @alaypatel8358  2 года назад +1

      The reason to take off the roof is because there is a spiral cable that needs to be pulled back. That cable is pulled back which is in the open position.Until you don’t pull the cable back to the original position resetting will not do anything. I hope it makes sense.

    • @terrellwright7565

      @George strang To unplug the battery would reset EVERYTHING in the vehicle. BUT there should be a FUSE somewhere... Either of you know where it is located?

    I just unplugged that thing,still not working! Does the same grinding sound as before

    • @alaypatel8358
      @alaypatel8358  2 года назад

      The issue with you is that the cable that moves the shade is stuck in open position and it is trying to open after resetting. So you will have to take off the headliner. Above the driver side you will see a motor and a cable running. Remove the motor and bring the cable to the close position then reinstall the motor. That should do the trick.

      dexter bazile since it’s making the noise you know the motor is working. All you have to do is reset the system by unplugging the cable I showed you on the video. You will have to take part of the roof off by removing the screws under the shades and under the air bag sine. Then just unplug and plug it in.

      Franklin Capital and Development if your shade is stuck in open position and it is making the grinding noise. You have to open the left rear headliner. Disconnect the motor which is for the front shade. Then there will be a spring covered with plastic cover. It will look like the bicycle break cable. You have to slide the plastic cover off then feed the cable towards the front of the car. Then put the motor back in. Make sure the shade is on the track and it should close.
