    The reason for the rear cupholders being on that side is because people who are being driven around in the back usually sit behind the passenger so they can have the front passenger seat up for more room and easier communication with the driver.

    For nearly 3 years I owned a 2011 XJ "Portfolio", Lunar Gray over charcoal with cream piping. Of the +45 autos I've owned, it ranks in the "top 3"
    The XJ constantly made me feel special, no unike the +700 times I commuted over SF's Golden Gate Bridge, the last as thrilling as the first.
    Maybe I was too busy savouring the way the sleek, lightweight aluminium motorcar made me feel special. Unlike my prior Bimmers and Benzes where I saw myself "constantly coming & going" (same as my XK cabriolet vs the "very common SL's, and 645-650's). Jaguars ARE NOT for everyone. Way, way, too much to savour... Unaware of the lack of Rayban holders, or how to dirty my fingernails while changing my own oil. In fact, my XJ came with a 6-year / 60,000 mile bumper-to-bumper full warrantee that included free maintenance PLUS the dealer brought a loaner to my door to take mine for service, and returned it late afternoon! Knew where the "owner's manual" was, and never saw need to know where fuses were located. I did learn the 2011 XJ body-style inspired Elon Musk in designing the Model S, and in the Fall of 2010 when I acquired the 2011 XJ (internally called "launch edition"), I was not aware of any other vehicle of any brand, make, or model with full LED instrumentation.
    Wouldn't be surprised if the day, the ultra-talented Jaguar designer Sir Ian Callum unvailed the 2011 Jaguar XJ, resulted in sleepless nights in Stuttgart, Bavaria, and Inglostadt...Maybe you should buy a new Corolla with pre-paid maintenance program and a place to store your Raybans..

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  4 года назад +10

      I admire your comment and I did learn something from it as I never knew Elon musk was inspired by the Jaguar when he designed the Tesla. However, being a jaguar owner yourself you cannot say that the car is 100% perfect and there are no flaws in any way. To do so would be extremely ignorant. You should take a look at my other video where I explain the amazing features and how much I love this car.

    i had a motorcycle helmet which top coat went bad and developed that sticky residue all over it. Tried many different products to remove it but most of them started to eat through the paint, i finally found that my household cleaner did the job perfectly. Took easily off the sticky stuff but left the underlying paint and plastic in perfect condition. Product was Cif Professional Cream Cleaner Lemon 500ml. if you can find that cleaner then give it a try cleaning those sticky buttons.

    Thanks for the great evaluation on this car I happened to see a 2011 Jaguar xjl on the Mecum auction today , sold for roughly $11,000 I was sort of interested because I've always liked the jaguars especially the XKE, after watching your video I saw many flaws I could not deal with even for that price so thanks for doing a good job evaluating it. You should work for Jaguar in their quality control.

    I've had an XJL since 2013 and I agree with many of your comments; some I didn't even know about. One of the worst is the sun shining from the centre console. However, I only suffered from the worst design flaw this year. After returning from a few weeks holiday, the battery was dead. To access the battery in order to charge it was a nightmare. the battrey is in the boot (trunk) and there is no manual way to open it. I had to connect a 12volt battery to a metal tag on the fuse box and ground the other lead. This put power into the system and allowed me to open the boot. Thank goodness for You Tube, without it I would never have managed. My local dealer was a complete waste of time. They responded to my plight by telling me that they were not doing any call-outs at that point in time. Not much help when you need a set of wheels.

I drove with them sticky for about three years until i finally experimented with cleaning them using 98% Rubbing Alcohol (from the local Pharmacy Store). It works like magic. This isn’t criticism but I’m providing answers to some of your points in your things you hate about your XJL.
    I currently on a 2013 XJ with a Portfolio package added. They have changed the buttons. I’m going to guess that maybe they thought some type of rubberized coating would make or give the buttons a pleasant touch except that UV light breaks down rubber.
    Videos are increasing. However some people just don’t know better even though they think they do. I subscribed to a full forum on jaguars and people keep arguing that they should only use the original spec oil that is no longer manufactured. I tried wasting my breath telling them that the new ILSAC ratings supersede and are far better than what for instance was a European Ford spec for your car 10 years ago.
    It is a power whore so much so that apparently dealers are suggesting and installing battery tenders. Maybe they just need to get rid of the tiny secondary battery that they’re using which is probably worthless and just have two full size batteries and maybe they need two damn alternators! I know when I owned my 2009 XF I could play the stereo all night long without any issues!
    As for me grab handles that are not on the front of the cabin; if you look at the size and space needed in the rear and realize that a panoramic sunroof is in the way that would be the reason I believe that you do not have them.
    As for the sunvisor not extending, every Jaguar I’ve owned in the last three decades had vanity mirrors that light up and I don’t think you can have wiring running through them because they are not battery operated and wouldn’t be able to extend. (You would need retractable wiring which if someone suggested that to their engineers they might laugh at them.)
    As for the windows not going up remotely I believe that’s a safety issue the same reason that the trunk does not close remotely because I wouldn’t want someone who is hand or head is inside the vehicle that you left the windows down on to be injured. There is supposed to be safety measures to prevent that but maybe they figure it’s better to be safe than sorry. (I’m actually going to mud my trunk with an adapter that I’m going to install so that I can close it remotely.) Note to add to someone who says the newer exchange will close all the windows with a push of a button on any door handle; For some reason they left calls in the sunroof out on that and I have always been able to close the sunroof with global closing on every other jaguar I owned that had power windows with a sunroof.
    The rear cup holders I agree with but maybe they thought the front lid falling onto the cups could cause them to spill? (Just a guess.)
    The fuses in the passenger section of the car are now behind the rear center console in the seat back. (There’s a velcro opening.)
    As for the sun shining on the center console from overhead, you can close the sunroof’s shade. (I have the same blue on the outer Console trim; it’s weird, because it doesn’t match any other colors in the vehicle.)
    You’ve already figured out how easy it is to change the oil and that pump to drain it only needs a few pumps to get it started I may be a few more when it near the end. I only think the filter should have a better seal inside the housing, (Like holding a thumb on a straw) Because the only way to clean the oil out of the little channels around the oil filter housing was with paper towels or rags.
    Some thing I’ve noticed on my X350 (‘06 XJ8) and my 2013 XJ (X351; For some dumb reason 2008-2009 XJ8 are X358.)- i’m not sure of the cars, I’m guessing some type of radio interference. (Everything a radio cellular phones, remote keys, garage door openers!) But vision will change to something I never use. It’s only happened once or twice but it’s annoying.)
    A couple things that could just be related to mine my echo start stop never seems to work but I am in a bad as south as you can get without swimming to the equator. It does A/C is greatly needed, it won’t come on.
    My truck won’t remember or stay at the maximum height opening. I’m not sure if this is something that was done at the dealer on jaguars proprietary electronics diagnosis & repair system. Or if it’s just a bug. But once or twice when I fully extended it remember its original position even if it had been reset to maximize and come down on my head. Not really hard but enough to be annoying.
    Happy motoring! Jaguars, I believe or a good compromise between luxury and ability. 30 years ago when I first test drove one accelerating onto the freeway I immediately felt the same as I did in a jet airliner taking off. It got my attention. Then when I wanted to turn on the radio I suddenly looked up and realized I was going nearly 100 miles an hour even though I felt like I was still going only 55-65!
    It’s so comfortable I actually skipped sleeping in a hotel I paid for and laid-back my seat all the way and slept in my car! If you’re stuck in traffic why not be comfortable content with a great sound system! Even my ‘97 XJ6; The factory speakers were made by Phillips but they still sounded great in Surround Sound!

    Hi, great video, I've got a 2010 XJ , and the biggest issues are worst than this little bothering things.
    Be carefull with your sunroof, time to time the covering will be stuck, then if the metal start to rust you'll get popping noises when you drive.
    The biggest problem is the suspension fault alert, it's a pain in the ass, it can cost you till 5000€ to repair it, most of time jags dealers don't even know the cause and just change the rear air suspension or the compressor for bright new once, but the alert comes back.
    So you get to drive a wonderful car that makes popping noises everytime, with an alert in front of your eyes...so annoying.
    After all, it still remains a great car, very classy and comfortable, with good performance and perfect interior style.

      @@XJLuxury Be careful with suspensions, when that will happen for you, first, check if you get leaks in the air system and if you hear the compressor run normally, if that is ok, refuse to change these expensive composents, the cause may be what we call "triangle arrières" in French (sry I don't know the technical English vocabulary), the plastics bushes to change, or the ECU and relay to change. If it's an "électrovanne" (French term, sry once again), or a air leakage, it will cost you 1600€ to change 1 rear suspension, do both of them, and eventually choose the B4 Bilstein instead of the genuine suspensions ;)

    Nice video
    With regards to your windows not going up I've got a 2014 xj and the windows do go up if you hold the lock button( this is also the case for a 2004 I own) I think you may have an issue with your particular car
    Also with the rear cupholder issue the front of that armrest is made for an entertainment system in yours it hasn't got one I believe it was a trade off as to which is more important the cupholder or the entertainment to be more accessible
    Like I say a really informative video for sombedy considering an xj I've owned various ones over the past 30 or so years and wouldn't buy any other make

      Surprisingly, this is done intentionally. I program BMWs and in the US all of the bmws come stock with the windows down by key fob feature, but none come stock with being able to close by key fob. Something about safety. I think they’re worried someone gonna close the windows on somebody. I can code the computer to allow it on BMWs. Don’t know about the jags

  • @piecewisefunctioneer

    Essentially what your complaints are is that you actually have to drive. You need to look behind you when your reverse occasionally and you need to make sure you check your blind spots rather than the car telling you. Also the reason the cup holders arent in the from of the arm rest is because that is where the rear entertainment control pannel goes if you get that extra. The boot key opening point is stupid. Theres a range for how far it will work.

    Your video is spot on on most of the points that you’ve mentioned. Like you, I have been dreaming about owning a Jaguar for a very long time. My aim was set at an XF, but with a little help from Jaguar’s steep depression curve and some luck I was able to buy a 2012 XJ Portfolio 5.0 SC. I totally relate to your point on the lame blind spot monitor system. Many a times I find people honking at me for cutting them off on the road - unintentionally of course! The car I had before (2012 Dodge Charger RT) had a very effective system that played a chime everytime I tried to change lanes with traffic in the way, and had a light that was way more visible. I feel you also on the battery drain. Definitely a bugger.
    One additional issue that bothers more than any other is the steering wheel’s reach. It does adjust for reach as well as rake, but with my favorite driving position (I am not exactly tall, at 168cm) I cannot get it to reach close enough to my palms to make an effortless road trip. Instead, I drive with elbow leaning on the center console and only fingertips at the wheel (not advisable!) or with palms stretched and holding onto it (not comfortable for a long trip).
    Otherwise, especially dynamically and aesthetically, it is the best car I’ve ever had.

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  5 лет назад +2

      Congratulations on your 2012 XJ I am very jealous of your SC engine ;) I am glad that you agree with my points. I can also attest to the steering wheels short reach. I should have mentioned it in the video but I forgot. I wish my steering wheel extended out more than it did. I actually was very surprised with how little it extended out. I can not agree more with you about the dynamics and aesthetics of this car. Thank for subscribing and there will be more videos to come shortly!

      I am a six-time jaguar owner over the last three decades. I can tell you that they’re not really more expensive labor wise to repair but parts are a different story. (Dealer prices are nuts.) And you need a little bit of knowledge to protect yourself. I had the first year version of the new Tata XF. My rear turn signal went out and I called one dealer because no auto parts stores carried the bulb. (At the time, 2014-15) The collection in Coral Gables Florida tried to tell me I had to buy the whole lighting assembly for three hundred plus! Warren Henry had the BULB needed! It was still over $20 and it was just a Philips but it was only sold at the dealership at that time but at least they didn’t try and make me over the coals.
      Otherwise they all have computers they all have multiple sets of electronics that do make the car more complicated but that’s what allows them to use less fuel and produce less pollution to meet the newer EPA standards.
      I need the first two jags I owned I could do everything myself; spark plugs, distributor, brakes, etc. Then I bought one computerized. I actually had to replace my unit because I didn’t know better than to let it sit in the hot sun all day in the deep south. And because it sat in the sun all day I hired somebody who supposedly knew how to fix it but he ended up ruining things.
      So I’ve learned how to do a lot of things myself even change plugs and coil overs which was much simpler than originally was hesitant to. And I had to replace a coolant recovery bottle but Carol a service technician ruined when I found out they didn’t even do a flush and fill correctly.
      But if you have to drive something away is people have an engine that’s powerful and a transmission that’s well thought out (BMW, yes!) and lucky for us, large depreciation from being new!

    Is there a crack on the rear window?

    • @XJLuxury

      Yes that crack came from out of no where. There was no rock that hit it or anything like that. Must be a defect. I’m getting it replaced soon.

    • @XJLuxury

      Yes you have to go into the settings and there is an option for this. It’s something along the lines of highlight select or highlight graphics but yes there’s an option to turn it off. I did it and it made it much faster

      I am a six time owner of Jaguars over the last three decades. I thought for sure after I’ve owned a few XJ sedans that I would be getting an XK next. But upon having the chance to test drive one I couldn’t believe how cramped I felt and I’m not very tall, a few inches under 6’ and my friend and her daughter went along for the ride and both of them are under 5 feet and they couldn’t stand how cramped the backseat was. It’s a beautiful car that’s really going to really scream with a V8; but imagine a tall person, how cramped they would be! Almost forgot, this was a convertible and it was a nice sunny day and the top was down!

    One thing i don't like or even understand why they do this is the "open trunk button" on the outside side of the car. You literally can't keep any valuables in the trunk , a theif automatically has access to ur trunk.Its redicoulus.

    the keyfob buttons are too sensitive even on 2013. that's the main problem with me. you park the car, and while you have it in the pocket it's soo sensitive that evrey little light push or touch of the button opens the car or the trunk, so you have to look back every meter you go to see if you opened it, extremely annoying

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  4 года назад

      I agree but I fixed that issue by changing my key to the new fob. Check my most recent video for it.

    • @ndivhorambau1149
      @ndivhorambau1149 4 года назад +1

      With the Spotify problem, it depends on your subscription as well as the quality you choose for streaming. I generally have the volume on 20 and i can hear everything beautifully. And it's not with the Bowers and Wilkson system

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  4 года назад

      Mine does not work

    • @XJLuxury
      @XJLuxury  4 года назад +2

      Yes and there was also an option to turn off this feature that keeps all the volume the same throughout each song. It’s called audio normalization. That will limit the max volume you can have for the songs. Turn that feature off.
