    Very interesting James! You've inspired me to look into DEXA scans in Oz. Turns out they are cheap and easily available so tempted to get one and use the results as motivation to start looking after my body a bit more. If it turns out the fasting does reduce your visceral fat it's definitely something worth doing.

      H that’s amazing news, Holly - I’m really pleased they are affordable there!! Let’s see about the visceral fat thing - I’m the same as you - if it’s fat that’s going during these fasts then I’m gonna use them as a tool until I’m in a safe place!!

    Thanks for experimenting on our behalf James. If your DEXA scans next time show your weight loss is fat, then this’ll be a challenge worth considering. But 36 hours without food! Surely there must be an easier way 😀

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  7 месяцев назад +1

      Haha - if it shows its fat it’ll be worth it. Frankly (and it might just be me) out of the 36 hours the first few are in the evening after dinner (I did it from 7pm) so that’s ok - I’m never hungry in the morning so that’s ok, lunchtime til dinner time is a bit meh but it’s dinner til bedtime that was a bit tough… next morning I wasn’t hungry again. So really for me it was hours 22-27 that were a bit tough. But defo manageable..!! Had a light bit of lightheadedness at kettlebells though but I was expecting that - happy to be the guinea pig..!!

    Great work James. Quite interestingly (and I'm not flirting) at around 10 mins when you're talking to camera there is a real sparkle to your eyes, and the whites are very white. Something that I've noticed that changes with me dependant on how healthy I'm being.
    Looking forward to the dexa scan next time.

      You can flirt with me mate! Interesting observation. I wonder if it’s the famous Bristol light - it’s why so many movies are shot here (interestingly the same reason ‘Hollywood’ is where it is - amazing light) - it could simply be that, of course..!! Or it could be what you say - I did feel pretty good at that point though!! Yep - gotta organise and plan the DEXA scan one now!

    Another fascinating video mate. I've never tried a prolonged fast but the benefits are supposedly amazing, even without visceral fat loss (although that would be ace too!) Keen to see what your next steps are, and for the dexa before/after video.

      Thanks mate! Yep - extended fasts are defo… a little challenging and in hindsight a little bit mad towards the end..! Mentally speaking… need to set dates for the DEXA today…

    Great video James. Really interesting results. Be good to see the same with the DEXA scan confirmations of where the weigh loss is coming from. I followed James Smith for a long time and Calorie deficit and exercise has really worked for myself.

      Thank you! Yep - James Smith is funny and he knows how to press the social media buttons, eh?! He also really knows what he’s talking about - but as I say - the truth usually lies somewhere between the extremes - sadly you get 1800 subscribers for 5 years work on YT if you say that though…!!

    Love U2 Bono😂. I’ve been doing some intermittent fasting but need to focus on it more. That spike in blood sugar after exercise is interesting I wouldn’t have expected it. I think I want to try the 36 hour dual fast and then dial the normal intermittent fasting routine with a clean AF diet filling the #vedgehole the right way. That is so horrible 😂

    Timely video! Just started to do some purposeful fasts of only 12 hours. Really struggle to not need like I need to eat after training each morning, and enjoy the breakfast! Has your research found any minimum fasting time? Am I getting any benefit??

    • @1stElement
      @1stElement  7 месяцев назад

      12 hours is only say 8pm finish dinner, have brekky at 8am right? I don’t think it would be considered a ‘fast’ by the book TBH - the minimum really see people saying is 16 hours - and that usually results in a calorie deficit (so long as you don’t have an extra meal in the 8 hours of eating..!) and some levels of possible autophagy (although that seems to be at deep more useful levels at around 48 hours it seems) - but it’s different for everyone. I’ve read that some people’s blood sugar spikes after drinking black coffee but that’s not ‘supposed’ to break a fast - it would for them..! To be honest Matt - I’m so on the fence with it all that right now, now I know I can do a 36/12/36 then I’ll do the DEXA experiment and IF I’m losing fat/visceral fat predominantly and less muscle then I will probably periodically do it to get my body fat/visceral down to safer levels and then focus on (re)building muscle after… as I say - you have the devotees and the sceptics - the truth lies somewhere in between (but doesn’t monetise your YT channel..!!!)

      Oh and take a look at Mindy Pelz’s website (links in the description) - she argues well and there’s a host of what/how to stuff - I found her info on breaking an extended fast actually very interesting..!!
