Just started with sublimation, I converted an eco tank printer to use with sublimation, I wanted to say what an amazing video! Also I did a lot of research before I started, and I thought I had to absolutely use sublimation paper, but you are now the 5th person I have heard say they use copy paper. After what it cost me for the sublimation paper, I am going to try the copy paper LOL Thank you for the great info!
I love these. I go back from time to time and make sure I’m doing it right. But one thing I would love to know is how to get more than one image on a sheet of paper like you have done here. I have wasted so much paper by printing on one sheet. Thank you and I love your videos on sublimation 😊
I’m waiting for my sublimation printer this week. So excited as I love the ceramic coasters. Going to make a lot of gifts for the holidays. I have a heat press and a mug press plus the Cricut Explorer air 2 . So much fun!

Believe me, I have a sub printer (because I am trying to making a t-shirts/merchandising business) and they are totally worth it! If you want one, I would say, don't hesitate, just buy it....You will love it. If you want to try it out first, Cricut has a line of products that allow you to test out sub printing as once you get into sub printing, they can print a lot of prints on one tank of ink....so it is a bit of an undertaking. Cricut's line of infusible ink allows you to try out sublimation to see if you like it (as it is pretty much the same thing). So, depending on your wants and needs, you may want to buy a heat press and get some infusible ink transfers first, then, if you still really like sub....by all means, buy the printer.
I found regular typing paper works for sublimation on tumblers, cups, coasters but not with fabric!

Not strictly correct that you can use eco tank printers. Epson printers use a Piezoelectric print head the majority of the others use Thermal print heads. Epson use lectrical charge to force the print dots, for example Canon use heat behind the print nozzle creating intense heat which will clog the nozzle. That is one reason why Epson is the main printer for sublimation.
Those turned out awesome!!!!! The colors are amazing. It's been a while since I did coasters with Infusible Ink but didn't we need to wrap the ink transfer paper around the coaster or am I dreaming? Your way looks awesome. I'm loving this set of videos even though I don't have the printer or heat press. Thanks for sharing!
Cathy Barwick you can wrap it all the way around if you want the sides to have ink but when they are round you’ll likely not have a smooth transition on the sides.

Love these! I’m looking to purchase a new printer for sublimation, and thought about the sawgrass500. The printer I’m using now is the Epson 2800 Eco Tank. It does pretty good for everything but photos…such as people and pets. Does the ink in the sawgrass last very long? I did notice that it has ink cartridges. Thank you for any information you can share. I’m really wanting to do photos of my family and friends as well as our pets. Yours look fantastic! 😁🥰
I used my DTF film sheet. It sort of came out but some parts are missing like the background which was the sun setting and my chest part has spots that didn’t stick.

I have made my own and they must be perfectly flat. the plaster tends to have a raised edge so just sand it down and you should be good to go :)

My first ones did not turn out. I had to press for 240 seconds (Siser heat press.)
Great and helpful information. So if I'm using my easy press (not a heat press) if I wait to remove the paper after it has completely cooled is that an issue?

You will follow the directions of Infusible ink just replace the inf ink with your sub print. I have a video showing how to use inf ink with coasters but it’s with the cork coasters.
I'm so surprised you can use regular copy paper. I imagine that is huge cost savings.

You have to have a printer that is dedicated to sublimation ink and filled with sublimation ink. You can’t switch then back and forth from ink jet to sublimation inks

Oh my gosh please help. Your stuff looks amazing and mine looks like it is going on the trash. I used the copy paper (it worked better than the sublimation paper). I did the 400 degrees for 60 seconds and it’s terrible. Do you know what I am doing wrong?
It could be your press not keeping the correct temp, or perhaps too much or not enough pressure. Without knowing more specific info it’s hard to diagnose
So wonderful Lorrie! Is it just as simple as purchasing an inkjet printer, taking out the ink cartridges and swapping them for sublimation ones? And from then on only use that printer for your sublimation printing?
Megan Harrington google your printer and sublimation. Not all printers can be sublimated and there are different methods for swapping them out. Some use an ink tank system, some have cartridges that you fill, etc

Add extra time when using the easy press from what the infusible ink heat guide says when using sublimation paper and ink. I would almost add an extra minute. Peak at the design before removing any of it in case you have to repress. I just learned all of this the hard way. lol

What do you mean you use regular copy paper? How? Please fill me in? The fabric transfer paper I purchase is not that cheap, but if I can use regular printer paper than you have no idea how much time and money you would save me

No. I don’t think that would work. If I were going to go that route I’d use sub paper as it’s cheaper and is made to transfer sub ink

Will you put felt on the back of the coasters as not to scratch the table or are they just decorations?
You can add felt. These are smooth and don’t scratch my tables but if you want to add felt you absolutely could
How do you size the pictures to fit?
Time sensitive question. I plan to purchase some sublimation ceramic ornaments as Christmas gifts. They will be printed with the likeness of pets but I already know one of them won't be totally accurate to what I want. Am I able to do paint touchups over top and then maybe put a glaze again? Or will it come out looking strange since the ornament was already manufactured?
I have not tried anything like that but I have touched up images with sublimation markers like Artesprix or Cricut Infusible markers

when using copy paper in the saw grass, are you choosing that type of paper? I'm brand new to sub. I have only the 11x17 paper that came with my Sawgrass printer.

No. You must use a sublimation ink printer. You can use a heat press or another heat source such as a couple vexation oven, sublimation oven or a handheld press like an easypress

I use official subli ink that came with my printer. As far as using copy paper with generic ink - I can’t advise as I’ve never tried it.
Hello why when im done pressing it and take the paper off it comes out with barely the picture with smudged things on it im using an sublimation printer and boucher paper
I would check your coasters and also sure they are sublimation coasters, make sure you are getting a nice even pressure on them with the press and perhaps try different paper f you’re not getting a good result. Also make sure the quality of your image is a good quality. Are you printing with the print manager ?

It’s only on the coasters and odd occasion on the mug I don’t know if it’s left to long and to hot for mine not sure ty for reply
Perhaps try adjusting the time down. I’m not sure. Often times if it’s a problem with the color profile black and greys will print with browns and greens. I would check your image and see if it’s the same colors that are off each time

Great video thank you for sharing. Could you please tell me why is it, when I import a photo from my gallery to put on a 4 x4 coaster template in Creative Studio , I can not get it to just over 4" in size, it seems to stretch so the measurements end up 5.34" x 4.15 and don't look nothing like the original as it is slight distorted, how do you get yours to look spot on regarding the size?. Do you do anything to your imports to get them in focus and not distorted? Many thanks
