    The myth about POD being oversaturated really needed to be busted. There's still so much opportunity if you're willing to put in the work!

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  12 дней назад +36

      Haha. I mean, it is a super strange thing to say, to be honest. POD cannot be saturated. That is an impossible thing to happen. So anyone saying "POD is saturated" should not be listened to, because they are saying something that they clearly don't understand. POD is a form of fulfillment & production. It is merely a way to make/pick/pack/ship products. It isn't POD that can be saturated. So yes I totally agree with you, that phrase needs to be shelved, lol! It is certain, specific products and certain, specific niches that can become "saturated" - and even then, the phrase "saturation" merely means that there is increased competition. People who release a great product into a "saturated" market will still win, but the bar is higher due to more choices.
      I've released plenty of products into "saturated" niche markets and they have gone on to become strong sellers for me, because the product I made was good enough to compete with the current selection.
      Sorry to hijack onto your comment. This reply wasn't to criticize you. It was to criticize people that make RUclips comments saying nonsense like that. LOL

    • @katlis
      @katlis 12 дней назад +1

      @@WholesaleTed Like you said, "the bar is higher due to more choices." And it will get higher and higher. So I think the argument of POD being oversaturated these days is fair. As it becomes easy to clone these POD products, it makes it much harder for even the big players to grow, or even sustain consistent profit.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  12 дней назад +11

      @@katlis As I said, I do think it is fair to say that a product, or a niche is "saturated" (although I did temper that by saying I think people still misinterpret what saturation means - it just means a lot of choices, hence more competition) but that you cannot say POD is saturated. POD is a fulfillment method and production method. Those cannot be saturated. Products/niches get saturated. Not fulfillment methods. Which is why if people want to discuss saturation, they need to get specific about which products and niches they think have a lot of competition, rather than making a blank statement that POD is saturated, when it literally can't be, LOL! 🙏

    • @katlis
      @katlis 9 дней назад

      @@WholesaleTed "POD is a fulfillment method and production method. Those cannot be saturated." -- If you're talking about the actual POD companies/manufacturers, they are loving this explosion of etsy, redbubble, etc shops that are easily launched (for free) in an hour now thanks to AI art. The actual POD companies embrace the oversaturation of any products they have to offer, which are generally the same across the board for every one of them (especially popular items like tshirts, mugs, etc).

    Thank you for the information. I'm only starting in pod and am overwhelmed by the mass amount of information and options that are out there. I'm currently building my shopify store, logos, theme, custom domain, connected e‐mails are all complete. I have been doing a 21-hour corse, and it was recommended that I have 100 designs. However, it's mostly t-shirts. I don't want to just do shirts and limit my probability of just doing one product. So, I'm researching other avenues to compliment my chosen niche. Candles, canvas prints, and custom products look to have better margins . One of these days, I'll get to learn about marketing and advertising my business but currently have decided to do the slow and steady approach. I did wach your shopify tutorial that got me started so thanks again.

    Hi Sarah, I've come across several articles suggesting that POD (Print on Demand) is no longer viable for newbies in 2024. Is there truth to this? I'm sure I'm not the only beginner wondering about this.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  8 дней назад +1

      It is a good question. Whenever anybody says something like that, it's my pet peeve haha because that honestly doesn't even make any sense and anyone saying that shouldn't be listened to IMHO because I just don't think they understand what POD is. Print On Demand is just another form of production and fulfillment. That is like saying that wholesale production is no longer a viable way to earn money. That makes no sense! It is all about what products you choose to produce that determines how beginner friendly the products you create and sell are. Print on demand is no different. If you choose to use it to manufacture the same t-shirt designs that 50 other people are selling then absolutely that will be difficult to sell. But if you choose to fill a gap in the market, then that's a different story. That's how I was able to make my new print on demand store a success in six months: ruclips.net/video/M9ZOiqxuMsg/видео.html
      Anyone saying this sort of thing, anyone correlating a production and fulfillment method with the products themselves doesn't know what they are talking about. As harsh as that sounds, I don't mean to be harsh, but it is a crazy thing to say because it literally makes no sense, haha 🙏 these are the same people that ridiculously say "print on demand is saturated" when it literally cannot be saturated. Only products can be saturated in a localized market. Not production and fulfillment methods 🙏

      @@WholesaleTed so just out of interest if I run a store and by chance I get 5k worth of orders I need to have 5k on my card or the orders will fail? I thought the whole point of print on demand is that the money is taken out of the customers purchase and the difference minus cost was sent to you? otherwise whats the actual benefit here? would you mind explaining please?

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  10 дней назад +2

      That is not the point of Print On Demand at all, and it isn't what the true advantage of Print On Demand is - there are many major advantages, but that is not one of them- although it makes sense as to why people new to the industry think that, so I completely understand.
      If you get 5k worth of orders (in terms of it's product cost - so in reality, that would be $7-10k worth of orders, but 5k in terms of products bought from the provider) then yes, you need to pay for that $5k, upfront, before production can begin.
      It is impossible for providers to take the money out of what the customer paid. Why? Because the customer never paid them anything. If you were running your payments through Printed Mint, then sure - the customer pays Printed Mint $30, then they could remove the cost of production, and then pay you the difference as profit.
      But that isn't what is happening here. The payment processor isn't being run by Printed Mint. It is being run by Etsy, or Shopify. It is Etsy and Shopify that have the payment processors, and it is them processing payments. They don't have a contract with Printed Mint. They have a contract with YOU, the owner. So they can only pay YOU the money the customer paid you.
      So, it generally takes 1 week or less for me to get the money the customer paid because payment processes like Etsy & Shopify need to process payments, but I still need to cover that $5k cost upfront.
      For me, I use a credit card. This gets me enormous amounts of travel miles for free. I use a credit card, I pay for the orders on that, then I pay them off once the money lands 1 week later. I never pay interest on my credit card: ruclips.net/video/M9ZOiqxuMsg/видео.html
      So therefore, I consider it an advantage, not a disadvantage, that I handle upfront payments. If I didn't, I wouldn't get free credit card rewards.
      But there are many, many other advantages to Print On Demand. Namely, you don't have to actually print any of the items yourself. Do you want to have to store mugs at your house, then print the design onto them, and then package them up, and then go to the post office and ship them out? Probably not, lol 😉 not only is that expensive to set up, it is time consuming and expensive to run your own print shop.
      By using Print On Demand companies, you can just pay them to utilize their printing facilities, and let them handle all of that for you.
      That is the advantage of Print On Demand. Being able to sell your own items that you design yourself, without having to actually make or ship them yourself 🌞🙏

      Good question! Asia has never been a major market for me, so I honestly don't know, sorry. I do know that Printful have fulfillment centers set up in Asia so that is something to look into. It also depends where in Asia your customers are primarily based. Asia is a big, spread out place with many countries not connected through a land border.

    Do you have a video on driving traffic to your website? More specifically one like Shopify vs Etsy and do you suggest setting up a blog? Everyone says to use Wordpress for blogging, but I’m not a fan. I’d like to have a blog w my site thinking of using Squarespace, Shopify, Big Cartel or Wix even if it’s used for announcements and updates. Not sure who to choose!

      I don't have many traffic videos because the way RUclips's algorithm works, it is not a topic that would get many views and it would hurt my channel to make it, unfortunately. I do have a video on Etsy traffic however: ruclips.net/video/v3jE2qNt3I8/видео.html
      I also go more in-depth in my course too if you do ever join, since there I don't have a YT algorithm impacting the videos I can make, lol!
      In terms of Shopify vs. Etsy that is a topic I also discuss in my course. But basically, Etsy is great if you want a marketplace with pre-existing traffic to piggyback off of. Very beginner friendly. Shopify is great if you're willing to drive traffic to your own website. Better returns & profit margins. Neither is better. They are just different.
      A good mix is often to combine Etsy with your own ecommerce. I do not recommend Wiz or Squarespace as they have clunky, badly made ecommerce features. Shopify out of those is the only one I would recommend.

    Lots of comments here, none of them by people saying they're making $ doing this. 95% of internet marketing success depends on traffic generation, which she doesn't talk about.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  4 дня назад

      You know, one of the reasons why I appreciate people signing up for my affiliate link for a POD supplier, is it allows me to track their sales. I get a small commission each time their store makes a sale - but it also lets me see that my videos are helping others. Through my affiliate links I can directly see, and prove, that yes, viewers are indeed earning money. Which is also not a surprise because Print On Demand is a huge industry. Perhaps it was an accident but, to be honest, the way this comment is written seems to imply that Print On Demand isn't an industry, but is instead a "money hack":
      >>> "Lots of comments here, none of them by people saying they're making $ doing this"
      This is an odd perspective to me. Again, it isn't a "money hack" - it is an industry, with many thousands of businesses. In 2022, the industry was valued at over $5.397 billion dollars. This is a multi billion dollar industry. This isn't a money-making hack. This is a real legitimate industry, earning businesses in it literally billions of dollars.
      And it is growing every year, and earning even more money. Sales & growth in this industry are growing every year for businesses by about 25%:
      www.printful.com/blog/print-on-demand-statistics
      Successful POD store owners, earning money, are in my RUclips comments. But these sellers don't leave comments, bragging about the money they're earning. They instead leave industry questions because again, this isn't a magic money hack that they are thanking me for discussing. It is an industry. So they discuss industry news, events and questions.
      I do also talk about traffic, and anyone who is active in the industry will know that. Because for me, my traffic is my designs. As I've said time-and-time again, this is not 2007. There is no "Google Traffic Method" that I secretly have. Instead, algorithms that recommend products do so based off of engagement, so my "traffic strategy" is to trigger engagement with great designs. That is why I make so many product design videos. I actually made an in-depth video, explaining why great designs trigger engagement and why that is, in my opinion, the #1 traffic source. Did you watch that video? That video is here. It is free to watch: ruclips.net/video/v3jE2qNt3I8/видео.html

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  4 дня назад

      And I also want to add, that no, I don't take credit for the people that clicked my affiliate links and went on to create POD businesses. Their success is their own and so it would be especially weird if they showed up in my comments to all repeat over and over again that they thank me, specifically, for their business. They probably watched many videos, from many creators, and attribute their success to themselves and their wider knowledge they learned, not specifically to me, which they shouldn't. Their success is their own 🙏

    Hi Sarah...I watch your videos all the time (thank you!) and others but I cannot find the answer to my one burning question. I live in a kind of "touristy" area. I would like to design shirts and maybe postcards to be sold in small tourist shops around the area.
    Like you, I want everything to be passive and not me driving and delivering product. Is there any way to sell wholesale to these shops for say quantities over 25 shirts (or whatever) and have them be able to go online and make wholesale orders for resale in their shops without me having to be their liaison for buying once they lile my products?
    I'm not sure why nobody talks about this...I figure either I'm missing something so easy it doesn't need to be said OR it's just not done.
    Could you make a video on how to do local sales passively? Shirts at tourist places go for $20-25 retail so it seems to me there should be some wiggle room for profit using POD to supply them?
    Cheers for all the great information, JB

    • @WholesaleTed

      @@WholesaleTed I was thinking something like that, but had hoped maybe there was one of these POD places that had something like that already integrated into their system. Which printing partner do you think would be best for this kind of sales specifically? Could you use the Printify/Printful free storefronts? Is there a way to easily set it up so the customer could choose several sizes in the same print to reach 25? I am a little surprised that none of the big guys offer an automated way for people to sell individual designs wholesale direct-to-reseller already, really. I hope you might consider doing a video on how people can use POD to sell locally (but still passively) and which companies would work best and make the most money, how to keep the local stuff within one brand with one go-to place for resellers, etc. Thank you so much for the response!

      No worries! I don't think any of them have anything automated like that, I could be wrong, but I don't think they do largely because wholesale is a more niche offering.
