Paper Mario 64 Chapter 8: The Final Showdown. Banger soundtrack the whole way through, fun boss fights, excellent design, and a great way to end the game.
I'm a Paper Mario TTYD Chapter 3 fan. It's like they squished the entire game into a single chapter. There's also the really cool Yoshi partner you get to name yourself!
I appreciate that this video celebrates the whole series and highlights the individual positives of each chapter. I'm a pretty standard "TTYD top, Sticker Star trash" kinda fan, so It's nice seeing the nuance and restraint I probably couldn't muster up myself if I made a list like this.
Wow SPM suffered on this one haha. I personnally believe that SPM chapter 1 is an excellent chapter with a fantastic use of the 3D mechanic overall. Though I get your criticism of the game, I still think SPM chapter 7 below PM Prologue is reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally harsh. However, I also like the fact that sometimes you disagree with general opinion, by putting Sticker Star chapter 3 that high for example. I always thought this chapter was actually good, definitely not great but good. So it's nice to see some credits for unpopular opinions! Great video man, lot of work and whatever your opinion is, you've explained it so well!
What a huge video! Some quick thoughts: - Validates why I stopped playing sticker star - Proof that Origami King could have been the best game in the series if combat was different. - Surprised to see Shy Guy Toy Box so low. It is the first chapter I think of when I think "Paper Mario" and one of my favorites - Happy to see Tubba Blubba so high. That chapter might be my favorite.
Cheers for the thoughts! I learned Shy Guy's Toy Box is actually quite the fan favorite recently and didn't realize it was that beloved! Thanks so much Dan! 😁
It's nice to see the Color Splash chapters ranked pretty well :) It's definitely my favorite Paper Mario game with how unique every level is and the many great ideas it brought with the train chapter being my favourite. It's sad that a lot of people don't give it a chance when it has so much peak to offer. (Also origami king chapter 3 is by far my favorite, they cooked way too hard on that one) Epic video🐐
great video! I actually really like the debt segment of SPM, it sucks and is extremely boring for sure, but I think it’s really funny. It makes me smile whenever I play it, or watch other people suffer through it. I guess to me, it’s kind of like Desert Bus in a way, where the novelty and suffering is kind of the point.
47:35 Fun fact: the ability to put the Underchomp to sleep is a reference to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice from Greek Mythology - he uses his lyre to lull the Cerberus to sleep.
The fact that the highest placing Sticker Star chapters outranked multiple 64 and TTYD chapters as well as nearly every Super Paper Mario chapter (though ill admit I'm only at #30 as of writing this) means that this video is now the most praise I've ever seen Sticker Star recieve by default. I very much appreciate the generally constructive tone of the whole video, a much-needed breath of fresh air in the Paper Mario community. Never does it feel angry, just disappointed at worst.
No but actually as much as TTYD gets praised I can never get myself to enjoy any chapters apart from 1 and 5, and in 64 chapters 2, 4, and 6 don't feel as fun as the average CS or OK chapter. I never played SS but I imagine it's like an even more corporate Color Splash.
Amazing video & huge respect for not putting all the CS & SS chapters at the very bottom. Also, so glad to see someone praise TOK chapters. Literally some of the best chapters/level designs in any Mario game.
Really loved this ranking video and was so glad it was not just one of those rankings where the newer games chapters are at the bottom like many ranking videos tend to do. Since I loved both Origami King and Colour Splash it was nice to see a lot of their chapters getting the positive recognition that they deserve!
Watched it the whole way through. Its a nice breeze of fresh air to have someone discuss all these chapters with as much thought as shown here. Your arguments were all thoughtful and reasonable, which it always should be, but it has gotten rarer on the internet. (probably because more young people hesitate to put out videos as soon as possible without any polish on expressions or finding the correct terms) It mustve taken you a long time to make this video and I appreciate the work you put in. Great work 👍
This means a lot to me! I do my best to be considerate while having fun with it. We all have different priorities and tastes after all! Thank you very much! ☺
(Five days ago) Happy 4th Anniversary, Origami King! I really enjoy seeing how much praise you give this game. It's my favorite by a long shot, and I truly feel like it's getting more popular.
even as a big ass sticker star hater, its really refreshing seeing this kinda video with balanced nuanced opinions thats not sticker star at the bottom and just ttyd at the top. while recognizing its flaws, i am myself a big color splash fan, so thats a big plus for me, keep up the good work
Bravo! Excellent job! This video is a BEAST and was well worth the wait. I'm sorry it took me so long to make time to get to it, but I'm really happy for you and I'm glad this video is getting the traction it deserves. I hope it takes your channel to even higher heights! My favorite Chapters are a tie between Chapter 3 and Chapter 7 of TTYD with Chapter 3 and the Final Chapter of SPM right behind it.
I agree! The majority of the complaints I see about this game is that "its not TTYD" which I think is unfair because TOK didnt try to be TTYD but rather developed its owm unique personality, which I absolutely love and adore. I could write so many paragraphs about why I love this game and think its treated unfairly
@@megastarwarsrocks99It's like saying Super Mario 3D World is bad because it's not Super Mario 64. The two games strive to be different things, and both lead to success.
@@AvrgharufanNah, the majority of complaints regarding TOK are that it's a great game hindired by an awful battle system. People would be fine if it had actual fun combat, even if it wasn't turn based.
@@megastarwarsrocks99 That is actually a very common criticism, and one that you were trying to reinforce by saying TTYD is good therefore TOK not being TTYD is valid criticism. Stop trying to go back and change your statements.
I cannot tell you how refreshing it is to see somebody with actually nuanced opinions on this series, rather than throwing every sticker star and color splash chapter at the bottom of the list solely because they have a vendetta against the concept of paper.
wait what? it’s fine if you’re happy to see new opinions cause that’s always great, but to say people hate sticker star and beyond cause of “paper” is crazy. you know for a fact that’s not why people dislike those games
@@GravityBouncer I'm very much aware of the reasons why people hate them, but there's a trend of people not giving any part of those games a chance at all, and just generalizing it all to "it's the worst video game ever made." I think this issue is the worst when it comes to something like Color Splash, where people will still make blatantly false claims about it because they never wanted to give the game a chance just because it looked like Sticker Star. I definetly agree with a lot of the issues people have with the later entries in the series, and I do think Sticker Star is the worst out of the series, but I think there still are good things in each Paper Mario game and a lot of the paper Mario fandom doesn't look at it with any nuance.
@@chugiron4698 now yes THIS is something i can agree with. i do believe there are many justified complaints about the newer three games, but they aren’t these terribly irredeemable games. i for one actually enjoyed a good amount of sticker star and color splash, but couldn’t get behind origami king. i think on the flipside tho, there are a lot of people who haven’t played the original trilogy and refuse to understand why people want a return to form so badly. they think a lot of people (especially as Nintendo fans) are always complaining and can never be happy. there is an argument to be had as well that people don’t seem to take ANY form of criticism very well, i do feel it goes both ways. the paper mechanics are not my favorite, but ttyd and Super made them work well imo. it really is just a different set of games that i want to love entirely, but i can only like partially
@@GravityBouncer Saying there’s good amount of things you enjoyed in Sticker Star, but then saying that you couldn’t see anything in Origami King is a hell of a take. Unless it’s just a case of newest=bad.
Great list. While I can't make a full list like that, since I'm only able to play 64 and the 1st half of TTYD, I'll say what my list is for now: 14: 64's Chapter 8 13: 64's Prologue 12: 64's Chapter 3 11: 64's Chapter 1 10: 64's Chapter 2 9: TTYD's Prologue 8: TTYD's Chapter 1 7: TTYD's Chapter 2 6: 64's Chapter 7 5: 64's Chapter 5 4: TTYD's Chapter 4 3: TTYD's Chapter 3 2: 64's Chapter 4 1: 64's Chapter 6 While I know these games aren't as consistently good as Mario and Luigi, I absolutely loved my experience with these 2 games, even from the number 11 spot and I'm looking forward to the next 4(And the TTYD remake is gorgeous). I just wished I had actual Nintendo consoles and game copies.
I personally love the atmosphere of Color Splash's last chapter (a bit biased since it might be my favorite PM) so seeing it so low made me a little sad, but I still respect your opinion! I watched the whole thing and I was happy that all of the modern games weren't just shoved at the bottom and they were truly thoughtfully placed. Awesome video
growing up w sticker star, it being the first one i ever finished as a kid, its nice to hear some praise being given. i think its not even the game that people hate, its the fact that its the game that changed what many loved
Wow I did NOT expect Origami King to place this high. I also did not expect to watch a 3h long video on the Paper Mario series of all things but still. It also makes me very happy that you didn't just trash on Sticker Star but talked about your dislikes in a more factual matter (It was my first Paper Mario).
Eh for me is more of a placement issue tho it felt awkward how at times the white backtrack felt so kid gloved at times. It would be more understandable if it considered the remake, but the lack of footage from it makes it seem that not. Meh, i still feel that even if the video author is genuinely pleasant. The comment seccion will be a mess lol. Tho i really apretiatethe love for TOK
True Super Paper Mario has really fallen off in popularity lately. I admit I'm guilty for believing it has the 2nd Best Story behind Thousand Year Door & I kind of hate the 5th Chapter. Still the 3rd Chapter is probably my 3rd Favorite in all Paper Mario & it isn't just because of Fort Francis with the entire chapter being fun.
Chapter 5 of Origami King is my favorite chapter in the series, so I'm more than happy with a #2 placement. I hope you get enough views for the effort put into this video, great editing and pacing!
I fricking love Chapter 5 of Origami King. It was one of the shorter chapters in the game, but I loved every moment of it (especially how fleshed out Kamek felt here)
The intro alone convinced me to stay, it's really good! I like the Paper Mario series quite a bit, so I'm always happy to see other people's thoughts when they're taking everything into account fairly! As of recently it's become impossible to talk about literally anything Paper Mario without having someone just barge in the conversation to say Sticker Star sucks and list other youtubers' criticisms, lol
I love this! This video was so good, and super informative! I especially appreciate how much love TOK got, because it’s a personal favourite, and not many people seem to like it!
Oof, hate to see super rank so low overall, being my favourite of the series. You make some super valid points through, so maybe it's the nostalgia talking. You did a great job with this video, it never feels like mindless praise or hate for any entry and each games chapter is given a fair chance. (Also thanks for showing that sticker star still has some merit despite its muddled execution)
What a great list! My only disappointment is not hearing on your thoughts on the improved TTYD remake chapters! It is nice to see a ranking that is fair to each game, without throwing Sticker Star and Color Splash at the bottom without going into detail. While there are a few chapters I disagree with the placement of (I am quite a hater of PM Prologue’s lack of action commands, and a lover of Shy Guy’s Toy Box for its fun theming), you explained your placements perfectly!
Well I watched your long video & I have to say it's ironic that your fav SPM Chapter was my least liked (those passwords kill it) & we both have the same 2nd Least Liked Chapter from the game. SPM Worst to Best for me is 5, 2, 1, 7, 4, 6, 8, 3. I can't even imagine doing a full chapter battle royale the way you did although my Top10 would be 10:OK2, 9:TTYD 5, 8:PM64 3, 7:PM64 2, 6:TTYD 6, 5:TTYD 8, 4:OK5, 3:SPM 3, 2:PM64 7, 1: TTYD 3 Of Glitz & Glory.
Seeing my feelings absolutely justified for that final chapter sticker star bullshit really helps. I genuinely enjoyed Sticker Star and it just sucks that the nail in the coffin was THE final boss.
This was a fantastic video. You did a great job. It would be cool to see you Talk about the Mario and Luigi series at some point (I would recommend playing the superstar saga and Bowsers inside story remakes over the originals. Imo they’re the better versions of the game in almost every way) or even the few other Mario RPGs like legend of the seven stars and the rabbit crossover games
I'd personally go for the original version of Inside story but I can understand wanting to play the remake. (Also the original version of Superstar Saga will always be my preferred version even if the the remake is better in some aspects.)
@@misk-ivus2990 The original superstar Saga definitely has some things over the remake, but overall I think the remake is definitely the definitive version of the game. Bowsers inside story I think you could make an argument for either but personally, I prefer the remake. The Bowser juniors journey mode alone makes it worth it to me. Juniors journey is the best Mario story we have gotten in years and it’s criminal Nobody talks about it
I'm glad seeing TOK get some much love and respect. Yeah the combat is a big letdown but otherwise the game has so much love and care put into it. Out of all the games in the series, it's the only one that made me feel engaged the whole through with almost no lulls at all. Even if it doesn't have an overarching narrative in each chapter, the smaller narratives wind together well to create a great experience. For it all, it's my 3rd fav game of the series and Blue Streamer (Autumn Mountain and Shogun Studio) is my all-time favorite chapter. Lots of great interactions overall in between Bobby, Olivia, and Mario that really bring out the heart of each them and really makes you care a lot about the other two.
this is a pretty good list, i like how colour splash and origami didnt rank that low and ranked pretty high though i wish spm chapters ranked higher but i can see why not everybody enjoys the game and personaly speaking my favourite paper mario chapter is chapter 5 from paper mario 64
I’m not fully done with the video but you’ve inspired me to do a tier list of all or at least most of the games I’ve done based on what ones gave me the most enjoyment. Even if they weren’t good to most people I thought it’d still be nice to rate them in my own list.
@@TheBoredJord I’m glad you enjoyed doing so. It left me wondering if I’d enjoy some things about Sticker Star other than what I’ve seen from others. Otherwise in most the games I have played I think a lot of your opinions were pretty spot on and accurate.
My favorite Paper Mario series chapter, and my favorite video gaming finale of all time is: TTYD Chapter 8, i think the remake improves it so much too!
really cool video ! and really happy that 3 TOK chapters (almost half of the game) made it to top 10 ! I can't wait to replay this game but when the Refolded Mod releases, a mod that tends to improve the combat system and the lack of NPC variety in some areas ! I don't know if you know about this project :)
I have seen some pictures of the Refolded project but I didn't know it was going to be a full on mod. I appreciate you sharing this! Thank you for your words!
I thought I would share my favorite chapters & least favorite chapters. I wont put them in a particular order. Favorite chapters: 64: Ch2, Ch5, Ch6 & Ch7. TTYD: Ch4, Ch6 & Ch8. SPM: Ch3. SS: I dont really like any of the chapters tbh. Ch3 is probably my favorite, but its nothing great. CS: Ch4 & Ch5. TOK: Ch2, Ch3, Ch4 & Ch5. Least favorite chapters: 64: None. - Ch8 is probably my least favorite in the game, but it is still a good chapter. TTYD: Ch7. SPM: Ch2, Ch4, Ch5 & Ch6. - I personally hate the chapters in this game. SS: Ch2, Ch4 & Ch6. CS: Ch6 & Ch7. TOK: none. I love all the chapters in this game.
Tbh, the only thing I really can’t see the logic for is Sticker Star World 3. The whole thing is just so mean spirited towards the player and has no respect for their time
Ok I'll come out with this and I'll say that I do love Paper Mario for the Wii ans Wii u because I had no idea how terrible the modern Paper Mario game and after playing Paper Mario 64 and TTYD remake I do love those games way more but I still enjoy Color Splash.
I really wish black bowsers castle was better, it’s assembly line factory setting could have been insanely cool. Plus the ost for the entire level feels wasted only playing for a pretty short chapter (srsly tho i did not expect that majestic violin from color splash😭)
Having played Color Splash for the first time in the past few weeks, I want to disagree a bit with some of these rankings. I think the story was great and the game overall enjoyable. I totally get why people say it's Sticker Star done right because it clearly used similar formulas while keeping it interesting. For me the Sunset Express at the end of chapter 5 was the most fun level. The music was great, there was some amazing world building elements with the rescue toads and enemies you can talk to and that part where the train almost rams you to reveal Larry was behind it was stunning. I also had a ton of fun in Chapter 6's carnival theme. I think Mossrock Theater was a great level to introduce the carnival theme and also bring back a bunch of enemies from the NES/SNES era we haven't seen since. I don't think it was unremarkable at all.
I'm glad you liked the game so much! You're not the first I've seen to champion Chapter 6. The circus has a really fun vibe, I just wish the chapter did a lot more with it. I'm happy to see the passion for it! 🎪
what a cool list! i def cannot agree with many of the choices but you find good things to say about a lot of the chapters, which is honestly how it should be. we’re all here wanting to enjoy the series. I’m surprised to see sleeper picks of mine like Sticker Star Chapter 3 or ttyd chapter 4 and such being higher. though I’m surprised with how low the Super chapters ranked! they’re def very different, but i somehow feel that supers final chapter is the best final chapter of the series, though admittedly.. paper Mario doesn’t seem to have great finales all around lol
honestly this is prolly one of my favorite paper mario vids now, the fact that its not just constantly jerking off the original trilogy and placing the modern trilogy dead last like any other paper mario video ever and you actually have a lot of things to say about each chapter. fr was locked in the moment u placed spm chapters super low, and I actually agree since spm is actually my least favorite pm game, I genuienly couldnt stand most of the levels (i genuinely prefer sticker star over it). I don't agree with some placements but I respect the fact that you gave every chapter the credit it deserved regardless of quality. great video bro.
@@xanander4693 Because there are aspects of the exploration and gameplay that were polished up, and I'm curious if that would have adjusted the rankings.
@@ajbXYZcool Possibly. The remake did fix a lot of the backtracking issue. However the exploration and level design of TTYD is still the weakest in the series.
damn i’m suprised chapter 1 of SPM was so low. Maybe its just nostalgia bias on my end but I love the simplicity of this chapter and the grass to desert transition but I do have alot of good memories associated with playing this game as a kid. So it could be mostly nostalgia bias.
Early on in this video but idk if I agree with somea these takes. SPM is my favorite in the series (and favorite game in general) and while chapters 1 and 2 are definitely on the weaker end of things, I’d rank them far above the same game’s chapter 6. If the story things didn’t happen in 6-2 then it’d be a generic enemy gauntlet that drags out way too long.
Hey! It's true, I'm not a fan of Supers gameplay so if its your favorite I understand not jiving with my takes. Even so, I did want to thank you for giving this video a shot and sharing your thoughts!
@@TheBoredJord admittedly i get it. The gameplay isn’t exactly where SPM shines and if the story doesn’t grab you then there’s not much to keep people coming back. I’m all for characterization over everything else and SPM has (arguably) the best written characters in the series so I enjoyed it over the other games That and I prefer 2d platformers to RPGs
You put a lot of work into this video which is commendable. And I guess I have to respect your opinion although it really feels like you're trying to push an "Sticker Star is better than SPM" agenda which is... just wild on so many levels xD
There's no agenda, SPM has always been controversial. If you don't like the "lol so random" humor & no stakes humor of SS, SPM's self aware and self-depreciating jokes seem way better. If you like the goofy humor you might think SPM is just trying too hard to be "grimdark" and the text is too drawn out without even being funny. Then there's not liking either humor, then at least SS is quick about it. The battles too, SPM has nothing. It's all platforming, even the bosses are just platforms. If you're not into platforms, it's a chore and a slog. Even if you don't like SS battles, you can avoid almost all of them, so you pretty rarely get forced into it. I like SPM way better because I do enjoy the self- referential humor, but the text does drag and many of the gags are unnecessarily long (mimi's debt, the password, etc) SS is just boring, but it's quick. And unmentioned typically, but I find SPM's art style, as in the new designs, ugly AF. Everything's disconnected, floating and geometric where PM has always been cute drawings or origami representations of a creature. Most PM enemies you can guess what a 3D model of it would look like in another style, but SPM everything looks like that godawful corporate work-training video art style. I still like SPM better, but the things to like or dislike are very hot and cold, and very preference based.
Good video but I have never heard anyone pronounce kamek as Kah-mek. Isnt it Kam-mek? Like hes like a male witch, a witch cackles, kam-mek sounds better no?
I used to say Kam-mek myself but I changed to Kah-mek after the Mario Kart DLC pack trailer that introduced him as a rider pronounced it that way. It also lines up with how they pronounce his Japanese name "kamekku". It's debatable exactly how it should be pronounced so I say go with what you like!
Good to see Origami King getting the love it deserves. Finished my first playthrough of the game recently and I honestly think I enjoyed its gameplay the most out of any Paper Mario game.
Congrats on 3k views! Three hours is crazy but I'm so proud of you and your hard work being paid off! Also thanks so much for the promo at the end. I'm always glad to work with you and you're also really great to work with
Im a little sad that ttyd got remade first. I tried to play the original paper Mario and usually aged graphics don’t bother me but all the n64 games look bad to me probably bc cartridges limited what the console could do
@@Rediscool9 I just liked how Goombella showcased her amazing sassy personality I am not saying that the removal of cat calling ruins the game or the character, but there is no reason why would be removed at all ( and if your response is " original dialoge didn't felt Mario". then I have to say THERE IS A NOOSE IN A GAME )
+ Pirate Expedition motif, a CS chapter with another motivation + Classic two-world puzzle formula, good idea + Well-designed areas + A lot of charm to this chapter, memorable + Like you said, the music track I did mention all of these things but it's true that I'm more focused on how the chapters lacking in the video so its understandable for it to seem pretty negative. To explain a bit- I think the chapters weaknesses are how several things just miss the mark. The way the pirate crew story ends, Wendy's lack of relevance, the parallel world concept not hitting its full potential- these are unfortunate but not enough to bring down what they're still accomplishing. The chapter ends up being a good time despite its weaknesses. So while the individual parts don't feel fully developed they're still doing a lot right. I could've made this clearer but the positives I did mention are really that strong to me. 🙂
Alright so I'm only about an hour in, but I just have to say so far that I feel so seen with some of these rankings. I always get brushed off when I talk to people about Super's poor, clunky level design, so I'm glad someone else gets it and takes it into proper consideration with ranking chapters. I'm ALSO happy to see SS chapter 3 get some proper credit too. I actually found it probably the most fun and compelling that Sticker Star got for me, for the reasons you mentioned! Will probably have to watch the rest in chunks, but consider me impressed with the video thusfar!
Thank you so much for sharing this! ☺ I'm happy to see more free thinking about these games and I'm glad I can help express some opinions that are too often quickly dismissed in the Paper Mario community. Thanks again! 😁
I gave up on this series after Sticker Star because they murdered the combat system. So when I saw Color Splash was the same as Sticker, I was reluctant to buy it. And they managed to do even worse for TOK, I'm still mad at them because this game looks really, really good, loads of good ideas, fantastic exploration. But this ring combat system. Oh my god, this might be the most dreadful idea I've ever seen in a video game Though, this video made me really want to play both of these games. The part I value the most is exploration/environments. So, are these games really worth it even if I'm sure I'm going to hate the combat systems?
I definitely recommend giving them a shot if they look fun to you. Exploration and environments are some of the most important things to me as well and I love those aspects in both CS and TOK. They have the best level design in the PM series. It's also pretty easy to avoid most enemies if you so desire. Of course there will still be a fair amount of mandatory fights but you can generally make quick work of them. Bosses are another matter and can be a hit or miss depending on your tastes. If you don't mind spoilers my Best and Worst video reviews on these titles go into depth about what I thought they did well and did poorly. It might help you gauge whether the pros outweigh the cons. I'm happy to see the interest in giving the more recent titles a shot! I understand SS turning anyone away but CS and TOK are much more ambitious experiences. Even though I find a lot of flaws in their combat systems they're still some of my favorite games. For me, they're totally worth it, but it really comes down to if the good outweighs the bad. Only you'll know that but I hope if you do try them out you have a good time.
@@TheBoredJord thank you very much for this answer ! Sticker Star wasn't a bad game, but it's a bad Paper Mario game. The combat system is bad and I'd say the environments/exploration part kinda fails to deliver too, even though everything isn’t that terrible. See, the part I love about your video is precisely that you didn't punished some chapters just because the game itself has its flaws. You ranked SS chapters exactly where I would have put them too. I think chapter 3 is good and chapter 4 is even better, far from a top 10 of course but still an enjoyable experience. So you seem to be able to appreciate some aspects of a game even if the game itself is the worst of the series. Even with SPM, you managed to give a good spot to chapter 5, which was always hated only for the stupid bloc quest. Which isn't enough at all to punish the entirety of a chapter, this one being really good in my opinion. Chapters 1 and 7 of SPM are our only strong disagreements in all of your ranking, but it’s really well explained and interesting to listen to your point. So I think you nailed the aspects that make Paper Mario chapters good or bad. And seeing chapters from CS and TOK in the top 10, some even beating the best of the best of the greatest Paper Mario games really make me want to try it. So, fantastic video man, I'll give your others a shot after beating both CS and TOK!
🌟What's your #1 favorite chapter?
Paper Mario 64 Chapter 8: The Final Showdown. Banger soundtrack the whole way through, fun boss fights, excellent design, and a great way to end the game.

Some quick thoughts:
- Validates why I stopped playing sticker star
- Proof that Origami King could have been the best game in the series if combat was different.
- Surprised to see Shy Guy Toy Box so low. It is the first chapter I think of when I think "Paper Mario" and one of my favorites
- Happy to see Tubba Blubba so high. That chapter might be my favorite.
Cheers for the thoughts!
I learned Shy Guy's Toy Box is actually quite the fan favorite recently and didn't realize it was that beloved! Thanks so much Dan! 😁
Idk about the best game in the series. Probably coulda barely beaten Super though.
It's nice to see the Color Splash chapters ranked pretty well :) It's definitely my favorite Paper Mario game with how unique every level is and the many great ideas it brought with the train chapter being my favourite. It's sad that a lot of people don't give it a chance when it has so much peak to offer. (Also origami king chapter 3 is by far my favorite, they cooked way too hard on that one)

47:35 Fun fact: the ability to put the Underchomp to sleep is a reference to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice from Greek Mythology - he uses his lyre to lull the Cerberus to sleep.
I didn't know that! That's a good fun fact. 👍
Interesting
How did I not notice that Underchomp was supposed to be Cerberus LOL
The fact that the highest placing Sticker Star chapters outranked multiple 64 and TTYD chapters as well as nearly every Super Paper Mario chapter (though ill admit I'm only at #30 as of writing this) means that this video is now the most praise I've ever seen Sticker Star recieve by default. I very much appreciate the generally constructive tone of the whole video, a much-needed breath of fresh air in the Paper Mario community. Never does it feel angry, just disappointed at worst.
That's such a lovely thing to hear, I really appreciate you sharing this! ☺🌟
I was not expecting Origami King to get this much love! It warms my heart that others too enjoy that game. It’s personally my favorite Paper Mario!
@@megastarwarsrocks99you have a shit personality. Let people have opinions.
Same here! Very Underrated Game!
My second favorite personnaly, TTYD still being on top for me
Amazing video & huge respect for not putting all the CS & SS chapters at the very bottom.
(probably because more young people hesitate to put out videos as soon as possible without any polish on expressions or finding the correct terms)
It mustve taken you a long time to make this video and I appreciate the work you put in. Great work 👍
This means a lot to me! I do my best to be considerate while having fun with it. We all have different priorities and tastes after all! Thank you very much! ☺
3h is crazy - but real King for seeing the glory in Origami King
(Five days ago) Happy 4th Anniversary, Origami King!
I really enjoy seeing how much praise you give this game. It's my favorite by a long shot, and I truly feel like it's getting more popular.
For some reason i cant stop rewatching this video
Acknowledging that both ttyd and tok are peak, 10/10 video
Olly is kinda just stupid in that right, but hes still a pretty good villain, and in my opinion the most epic final boss.
even as a big ass sticker star hater, its really refreshing seeing this kinda video with balanced nuanced opinions thats not sticker star at the bottom and just ttyd at the top. while recognizing its flaws, i am myself a big color splash fan, so thats a big plus for me, keep up the good work
The intro Made me realize How perfectly iconic thrills at night is, origami king (and paper mario in general) truly has the best music!!
Gonna come back and watch this after I beat ttyd. This is my kind of video!!
It's always nice to get some Origami King love in a PM video.
@@megastarwarsrocks99 Check your original reply again. Reread it slowly.
I completely agree with your takes about SPM. Most of its chapters have glaring issues and aren't very fun to play through.
@@GravityBouncer I'm very much aware of the reasons why people hate them, but there's a trend of people not giving any part of those games a chance at all, and just generalizing it all to "it's the worst video game ever made."
I think this issue is the worst when it comes to something like Color Splash, where people will still make blatantly false claims about it because they never wanted to give the game a chance just because it looked like Sticker Star.
@@GravityBouncer Btw, you’re in the majority opinion and not in the minority like you’re trying to make yourself out to be.
A Star Spirit on Ice is the PERFECT Mario Chapter. I couldn't agree more!
Great video!
Great list. While I can't make a full list like that, since I'm only able to play 64 and the 1st half of TTYD, I'll say what my list is for now:
14: 64's Chapter 8
13: 64's Prologue
12: 64's Chapter 3
11: 64's Chapter 1
10: 64's Chapter 2
9: TTYD's Prologue
8: TTYD's Chapter 1
7: TTYD's Chapter 2
6: 64's Chapter 7
5: 64's Chapter 5
4: TTYD's Chapter 4
3: TTYD's Chapter 3
2: 64's Chapter 4
1: 64's Chapter 6
While I know these games aren't as consistently good as Mario and Luigi, I absolutely loved my experience with these 2 games, even from the number 11 spot and I'm looking forward to the next 4(And the TTYD remake is gorgeous).
Super engaging video with a lot of thought put into its critiques and explanation provided for its compliments! Excellent work.
The SPM slander in the community recently is crazy
Nah, slander would be _false._
Spm fans when the contentious game is contentious:
😢
SPM fans when not everyone finds a GAME with mid GAMEPLAY to be a masterpiece just because of the story:
Thank you for the well wishes! I'm glad you liked it!☺
I fricking love Chapter 5 of Origami King. It was one of the shorter chapters in the game, but I loved every moment of it (especially how fleshed out Kamek felt here)
Hell yeah for #1! By far my favorite as well. Loved the video.
Very good video and editing ! Congrats for the work !
I knew there was a reason why I couldn't fully make it through Super Paper Mario, the first 2 Chapters are kinda rough.
everything you said about chapter 3 of sticker star i agree 100%...aside from me enjoying it even more than 4
The intro alone convinced me to stay, it's really good!
1:16:14 This is actually such a good point. I love sticker Star and understand its problems. But sometimes I don’t get peoples hate for world 3
This was a fantastic video.
Juniors journey is the best Mario story we have gotten in years and it’s criminal Nobody talks about it
A fucking 3h-video is EXACTLY WHAT I WANNNNT LETS GOOO TY SO MUCH
I'm glad seeing TOK get some much love and respect.

I agree 💯 with your classification, and this indicates that paper Mario the origami king is extremely underrated
Origami king has the best ost in the series
The bobby death scenes remind me of the ceaser and iggy deaths from jojo
this is a pretty good list, i like how colour splash and origami didnt rank that low and ranked pretty high though i wish spm chapters ranked higher but i can see why not everybody enjoys the game and personaly speaking my favourite paper mario chapter is chapter 5 from paper mario 64
Amazing video. Keep it up man
I’m not fully done with the video but you’ve inspired me to do a tier list of all or at least most of the games I’ve done based on what ones gave me the most enjoyment. Even if they weren’t good to most people I thought it’d still be nice to rate them in my own list.

Tok has the best chapters overall imo
I thought I would share my favorite chapters & least favorite chapters. I wont put them in a particular order.
Favorite chapters:
64: Ch2, Ch5, Ch6 & Ch7.
TTYD: Ch4, Ch6 & Ch8.
SPM: Ch3.
SS: I dont really like any of the chapters tbh. Ch3 is probably my favorite, but its nothing great.
CS: Ch4 & Ch5.
TOK: Ch2, Ch3, Ch4 & Ch5.
Least favorite chapters:
64: None.
I LOVE THE DEDICATION YOU PUT TO THIS LIST!

@@TheBoredJord if origami king changed the way you thought about Kamek, Bowser jrs journey will change the way you think about Bowser Jr
Thank you so much Pekbin, that means a lot! I really appreciate your words!
If you really wanted you could count that intermission between chapter 2 and 3 of origami king as it’s own chapter but probably better you didn’t
I'm just a bit sad that you weren't able to account for TTYD's remake when it came to ranking it's chapters.
It’s the same story so why does it matter?
@@xanander4693 Because there are aspects of the exploration and gameplay that were polished up, and I'm curious if that would have adjusted the rankings.
@@ajbXYZcool Possibly. The remake did fix a lot of the backtracking issue. However the exploration and level design of TTYD is still the weakest in the series.
It's clear a ton of work went into this. This is way too underrated
damn i’m suprised chapter 1 of SPM was so low. Maybe its just nostalgia bias on my end but I love the simplicity of this chapter and the grass to desert transition but I do have alot of good memories associated with playing this game as a kid. So it could be mostly nostalgia bias.
I disagree with a lot of this, but I still really enjoyed the video, your thoughts and reasoning were very captivating and I appreciate the passion
Just found out that Chapter 4 is also very low. Man you do not like this game huh
“Fort Francis is held back by SPM’s Gameplay” ok clocking out
I’m all for characterization over everything else and SPM has (arguably) the best written characters in the series so I enjoyed it over the other games
That and I prefer 2d platformers to RPGs
For your amount of subs, this is Crazy content
Origami king is your favorite
I was surprised to see so many chapters from super and ttyd below sticker star chapter 3
ngl I can’t take this seriously at all with some of these very questionable placements

Why is 15 where it is? You did nothing but complain and only had one compliment(the music). I’m genuinely confused.
+ Pirate Expedition motif, a CS chapter with another motivation
+ Classic two-world puzzle formula, good idea
+ Well-designed areas
+ A lot of charm to this chapter, memorable
+ Like you said, the music track
I did mention all of these things but it's true that I'm more focused on how the chapters lacking in the video so its understandable for it to seem pretty negative. 🙂
@@TheBoredJord I honestly do agree that you could have done a little more focus on the positives.

still nothing worse than sticker star chapter 3, in my opinion.
I'm happy to see more free thinking about these games and I'm glad I can help express some opinions that are too often quickly dismissed in the Paper Mario community.
Oh my god, this might be the most dreadful idea I've ever seen in a video game
Though, this video made me really want to play both of these games.
