tera about the early sprite of Vivian being used in animation i do believe that animation is missing its assets which is why it looks the way it does if we ever get an earlier build we could find out what it was but as of right now those sprites for the animation just don't exist anymore same with early hook tail test
The 64 partners could have been an artistic exercise too, I know a lot of artists do that to get a style down before having to make and re-make partners a BUNCH
14:34 is wrong. it gives mario the ability to shock anyone who makes contact with him. the game calls it a bonus and the same status effect is used in other parts of the game
I still find it funny how Lord Crump breaks the fourth wall in the island chapter by stating that his disguise is not that very good and that the player knows who the new ‘crewmate’ is but not to tell Mario. Always gets a Crump Chuckle out of me.
So THAT'S where the magical map obtained in randomizers of this game comes from. The randomizer does the usual thing of shuffling items around, and that includes the magical map, where it's repurposed as an item to unlock Sweet Treat
I just realized that they never even brought back the unused enemies in the remake, such as Okooru. Which is a shame, since they specifically made new boss fights AND Npc's.
I think at 14:31 you made an oversight. I think Flurry’s lightening was supposed to give the electric status, similar to zap tap. Not trying to nitpick, it was a great video
That's what I guessed. I think the game is calling upon textures that no longer exist, hence the random Vivian, but it looks like the hat piece is probably supposed to be Hooktail's eye and the vivian body is probably where the head layer would be
For some reason, I can imagine putting a filter over the pre-release title theme and using it for either a television or a radio news jingle. It kind of has that energy, something upbeat to get your attention as you're walking by.
Yeah it looks like the 64 sprite with the more crimson-leaning red for Mario's outfit from TTYD. It's got that hint of orange highlighting along the top edge.
Who would have thought that 2:36 his animation would have been reused now for the remake. The horn specifically used when he shows his true identity after you beat Cortez
That peach animation of her running makes so much sense, I always thought her running speed didnt match her animation, it always like she was FLYING at speed but barely moving
It's crazy to see the amount of content that went unused for Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door. One of my favorites has to be the unused early title theme for the sequel as I would've loved to have seen them work it in some how especially for people who got to play the early build of the sequel.
During the unused audio section of the video, when the opening title screen is flipped, you cannot see the Koopa Trooper's eyes and only see the whites. Also, the back of Mario's looks so weird, since it looks as if he has no face.
The unused Riverside Station music was probably dropped because it just doesn't fit the area AT ALL. Actually it doesn't much sound like a TTYD tune at all. I prefer the station as it is with no music
I'm flabbergasted they didn't use a new arrangement of that unused Riverside Station song in the remake, I guess all the effort went into the new battle theme, which is a fine trade-off because it might be my favorite in the game so far lol
The weird Vivian and floating hat animation could be a test animation (for player characters) who were the victim of some kind of hooktail attack? Maybe a grab?
I've never played this game, but I could imagine the test_gon 1 would've been used for Hooktail having an attack where he gobbles up a partner or Mario and either spits them back out or only spits out something like Vivian's hat. I could be WAY off though, but considering he was willing to gobble up a bunch of Toads, I wouldn't put it past him
Some of the things they cut from this in the final release are absolutely absurd, like why in the ever loving balls would they think the player would prefer complete silence in that one area over the rocking tune they had originally planned!? that was such an incredibly stupid decision.
Like the person above me said the first 3 are really the only good ones. The rest get very basic and bland and cut out most of the actual interesting characters and use only toads pretty much. Also the battles suck
I actually have a pretty cool theory around the Dark Atomic Boo. I’m pretty sure it was meant to be the Chapter 6 boss, as Chapter 6 doesn’t really have a sort of main “boss” of sorts other then the Smorg, and you do see a lot of Dark Boos near the Crystal Star so it seems plausible. Speaking of the Smorg, am I the only one who thinks they look really similar? Both have same eyes and there’s even Pink Smorg and the Dark Boo is purple, which adds to my theory that the Dark Atomic Boo was made to be more creative and was rebranded into the Smorg. Kinda sad we didn’t get to see it tho
Perhaps there were supposed to be two bosses, just like in some chapters where you get Blooper + Hooktail in Chapter 1 (or Crump + Blooper if you count them as part of the prologue), the Sirens + Crump in Chapter 2, Rawk Hawk + Grubba in Chapter 3, Doopliss + Shadow Mario (+ optional big boo) in Chapter 4, and Gloomtail + the Sirens + Shadow Queen in Chapter 8. We also know that the Sirens should have been fought in Chapter 6 at some point, perhaps the dark big boo would have been a secret boss?
14:30 - That's not a negative effect in this case. (If the enemies got it _then_ it would suck.) Also, just based on that description, it's likely that Flurry would be the 1 gaining that effect, not Mario.
So, couple of notes. One, electrified is a positive status in TTYD, it doesn't hurt you but rather causes any enemy that touches you to get hurt. So that wouldn't have been a negative side effect of that cut Flurrie move. Also, that unused Cheep Cheep NPC, when actually loaded into the game, does not display the tie, it's simply part of his texture file which was probably because they copied that over from the blimp NPC as a starting point.
Nice compilation! I noticed a few unused animations are missing from both this video and the tcrf website, mayor kroops's angry running animations for example as well as a bunch of talking animations for enemies that don't normally talk in game.
Thank you! Yeah just going through them in game I noticed a bunch I didn't think were used, but I'm not knowledgeable enough on this game to verify which were fully unused or not
I don't think tst_p_peach was unused. It's very likely that it's the poster that Bowser thought was the real Peach when he first entered Koopa Village. The rolling animation was the koopa who owned the poster taking it down.
Man, I would have loved to see some of those unused badges, a couple of those unused enemies, and the team from the original Paper Mario in the final game. And why the hell didn't those graphics appear in the shower room? Very weird. Maybe some of this stuff finally got included in the remaster. I'll be getting that one in the mail within the next few days, so I guess I'll find out soon enough.
just a heads up-- "electrified" is actually a >positive< effect that makes enemies get hit instead of you if they try to attack you with a melee attack (example, a punch or a headbutt), though i can totes see how you mistook it for a debuff!! awesome video though!
Any reason why the Spin Dash from 64 and it's Badges were never added to this game? It would have been WAY more useful than riding Yoshi which you don't get until near the end of Chapter 3 only to lose him partway through Chapter 4 until the Chapter Ends.
No it wasent the riverside station though was repurposed for super paper mario as the pixel theme strange company is actually a very heavy remix of it its really hard to tell but its there
The peach poster rolling up was actually used in one of the cutscenes. Correct me if I’m wrong, it’s used in the bowser cutscene after beating that one boss X-Naut.
1. you said jdaster's name wrong (you say the A like an A doofus) 2. you said that the unused flurrie attack had a "negative" effect of giving mario and their partner the 'electrified' effect - which is actually a positive status effect. if anything the description describing it as a bonus shouldve tipped you off to that 3. also, for the animation of watt sparking, do note that watt just does that in pm64, so i wouldnt doubt that she just did that here too

Funnily, some of those unused Crump animations are actually in the remake now, even the one where he fixes his horn. Pretty neat stuff.
14:34 is wrong. it gives mario the ability to shock anyone who makes contact with him. the game calls it a bonus and the same status effect is used in other parts of the game
The Crump X-Salute is used in the remake, as it should actually.
As it was always meant to be
As well as the horn fixing animation, after he changes out of his Four-Eyes disguise. I just played that part like 10 minutes ago lol
@ExaltedUriel and the crump chuckle
And unlike crump I don't chuckle, I'd rather flex my muscles
It was always kinda weird that Crump never did the salute in the original. Im glad they added more animations to characters.

They actually implemented the animation at 2:33, absolute madlads
You’re a good person for the warning even if it was something so small
14:30 Electrified is a positive effect. It's what Volt Shroom and ZapTap give Mario
I just realized that they never even brought back the unused enemies in the remake, such as Okooru. Which is a shame, since they specifically made new boss fights AND Npc's.
Thank you for spoiling me...
They made new boss fights?
@@RaphielShiraha64You’ll enjoy it more that way.
Agreed with everyone else. They made WHAT?!?!? (No one tell me what it is!!)
@@Gatorboy5678 Boss fight against Prince Mush and Whacka after you beat Bonetail.

I also mentioned this, glad to see i wasn't the only one
27:03 might be wrong textures but meant for testing hooktail when she is low on HP and is breathing heavy.
17:02 this leftover 64 Mario animation seems to use an altered color palette
Yeah it looks like the 64 sprite with the more crimson-leaning red for Mario's outfit from TTYD. It's got that hint of orange highlighting along the top edge.
The peach poster item looks to be the poster used in one of the Bowser intermissions.
It is
The Peach portrait that rolls up is just the Peach poster that Bowser mistakes for the actual Peach in Petalburg, no?
The unused title screen is basically Fatguy's channel theme now, so it has found its place after all. ^^
Crump Chuckles
25:18 the test peach picture was used in the Petalburg Bowser sequence. Or is it a different variant?
I think you mean 25:12
Who would have thought that 2:36 his animation would have been reused now for the remake. The horn specifically used when he shows his true identity after you beat Cortez
It’s kinda nice to know now that some of the unused lord crump animations were gonna be for the end of chapter 5
2:39 unlike sonic I don’t chuckle
I would love to see a video like this, but on the remake on the switch
Also a small donation to one of my favorite channels
Thank you so much for the dono!
4:30 Can somebody tell me why every Cut Track Hits SO HARD?!
No, I cannot, sadly.
That peach animation of her running makes so much sense, I always thought her running speed didnt match her animation, it always like she was FLYING at speed but barely moving
25:39 that animation could be for an attack where vivian uses her hat like a whip, though i’m not really sure since i haven’t played this game
20:00 I'd want THAT as a Potential Partner.
5 year old
The unused Doopliss animation is used, right after Mario gets his identity back.
I love how you use MegaMan battle network music at the end of your videos. The battle network games have a big place in my heart

Got Legacy Collection on Switch, mate?
I'm impressed how Nintendo actually proved they weren't afraid to bring things back when it was removed.
9:43 charge badge was so insanely useful in the remake
oh wait is that not charge
womp womp!!!
27:02 Since its the first test its probably that the sprites that were used were replaced by vivan and her hat sprite
26:23 - well obviously it is, it's her allegedly world-renowned feet :P

2:56 maybe its like the mouse dude from the original where you saw him run from you in the town or wtv and that gave you clues to go find him
14:32, I don't think this is a disadvantage, electrify status is a positive effect like equipping the Zap-tap badge
25:15 isn’t that just the poster found at the end of bowsers part after chapter 2?

Super is different but I also loved it, look into it if you have Dolphin or a Wii
would highly recommend all other games ;) maybe not sticker star but there are people who enjoy even that one so who knows maybe you'll also join them

Most of these unused animations for characters are used in the remake!
The Hand holding one is only used in his four-eyes disguise however
Are we sure the animation of the peach poster rolling up is unused? It looks similar to the one used in a Bowser cutscene.
Not, sure if the animation is used, but this object appears to maybe be a test of it
Why did I find this in the paper Mario: origami king section
What
Yeah, for me, youtube doesn't know what game is what sometimes.

Common slang for male genitals.
We also find Pikmin and Pikachu particularly funny.
@@sacripan4425 it means "Dick" in Danish, at least according to Google translate.

I don't know why it loaded Vivian, but that first Hooktail graphic might be testing the animation of her mouth as she breathes.
14:32 how is this a negative effect? its talking about the electricity on-hit damage status, not shocking mario as well as the enemies
and 25:14 unless this is just a different unused version of it, this is just the portrait used in the cutscene of bowser in petalburg..
26:49
Top and bottom parts of Hooktail’s head.
I thought the leg, with Vivian’s hat representing Hooktail’s leg and Vivian herself representing Hooktail’s foot
@@LucasGnagy Probably the leg. Who knows.
The peach portrait is not unused, it is used for one of the Bowser sequences where he mistakes the peach poster for the actual Peach.
