The reason why Ludwig is fought so early in Color Splash is because all of the Koopalings were given their stars based off their wand colors (which is why Roy was fought in Bowsers Castle, as his wand is black) and the devs understanably wanted to start with the primary colors
On 36:15, the reason why Stapler is the final legion boss instead of Scissors is because of how valuable they are compared to Scissors. Without Stapler, Olly would've never succeeded in converting almost everybody into origami soldiers. That is why Stapler is fought in the final area. They are too valuable and essential to lose and Olly knew that.
I could be wrong, but you said hooktail couldn’t be beaten without the sound effect badge. I coulda sworn the badge just makes hooktail weaker. I have a vague memory of not using that badge when I was a kid
You're right, the badge just lowers her defense. I was watching the Game Grumps play TTYD recently and they beat Hooktail without the badge because they weren't paying attention to the game when it told them to get the badge lmao.
I had to get my friends older brother to try and beat it for me when I was younger. He did it too but it took many tries lol. Neither of us had any clue about that badge.
i mean, the bosses are not the game's strong suit. I love the game to death, but the bosses in general just kind of... suck. Except for the Brobots, those fights are actually really good.
@@LeoYoshi54321 Fracktail and Wracktail were also very creative, and not just solely jump simulator. Super Dimentio was also just a cool final boss, not on par with others in my opinion but, still not horrible.
It breaks my heart Mario didn't recognize Mr. L is Luigi. They could have done so much with him and really brought on the emotion by elaborating on the brotherly bond.
Mario was actually in his fighting stance in that scene. Him glaring at Mr. L can probably be interpreted as sorrowful rage at the idea of having to fight his own brother.
The Shadow Queen was a good reveal, too. It made so much sense to see the Shadow Sirens plotting from all those years ago to revive their ruler/mother.
I’m actually a very big fan of the King Croacus fight…if you don’t use Thoreau during the first phase. It’s probably one of the most difficult bosses in SPM and it’s very much appreciated that his weak point isn’t exposed unlike the majority of the bosses in that game.
Lava Piranha Is probably one of my all time favourite bosses and boss themes. Kolorado coming in to help with the whole chapter also lives in my head rent free
REALLY happy to hear that someone else found Gooper Blooper somewhat interesting. I wasn't really a fan of the game, and yet I do have some good memories of that fight specifically!
My favorite part about Paper Mario 64’s boss fights is that, for each successive chapter, you know less and less about each boss until you reach Chapter 7, which really helps set up the mysterious atmosphere of the Crystal Palace and its King. The Koopa Bros appear before Chapter 1 even begins and pull various tricks to slow you down. Tutankoopa talks to Mario all throughout his dungeon, pretending to be an ancient cursed evil but his act cracking as you go further in. Tubba Blubba is talked up for the entire chapter and is even seen in action, but unlike the Koopa Bros each appearance before reuniting with his heart is threatening. Shy Guys invade the whole of Toad Town, with its multi-colored infantry, Stealth Guy ambushers, Medic supports, and more organized and “militaristic” takes, of course the chapter boss is a self-fashioned General. Piranha Plants are among the troublemakers all over Lavalava Island, but when they’re among one of the only basic enemies to talk, and rather strangely at that, once you enter the volcano, the Lava Piranha’s presence is felt, almost like the center of a hive mind. Huff N. Puff shrouds the sky for most of the chapter, but unlike Tubba Blubba his name is fearfully mentioned, but remains unreachable and above it all until you take down his machine; it’s a smokescreen. And finally, the Crystal King, who’s never once mentioned or even hinted at and yet is at the center of the mysteries surrounding the Shiver region, and serves as a perfect transition from the unknown to the all-but-known Bowser.
The Crystal King is everything Tutankoopa pretends to be. Tutankoopa is a charlatan; the Crystal King is legitimately an evil spirit. The Crystal Palace is such a cool area as well; that whole chapter is so fascinating and the music is fantastic.
This is a fantastic video, I love reliving some of these bosses. Just wanna say, while I think Scissors is also better than Stapler, it does kind of make sense why he’s the last member you fight, seeing as how Stapler’s the one responsible for turning everyone to Origami.
I appreciate the SPM love! Most people blow it off because it has different gameplay than the other Paper Mario games, but I'm glad you gave it an equal chance. Tbh, I feel like SPM has some of, if not the best Mario characters in all Mario games.
Dude has extra personality in a game full of characters with great personalities! Getting to and from Creepy Steeple is a pain, but aside from that it's one of the most interesting chapters in the game.
I love how he's as much of a character in his first chapter as the shadow sirens and Vivian are throughout most of the game. He makes himself known, pulls a 180 on the player and the party, literally bends the laws of relativity to mess with you to not say the letter p, and even when he's found he fights you preping a string of insults. You just don't forget a character like doopliss.
I respect the effort put into this video. I like that you understood the concepts of every boss, which was nice. I strongly disagree with many of your takes, and I think you have biases that I disagree with. The fact that you put Goomba King above Super Dimentio alone was enough for me to make this comment. I know it isn't a "complex" fight, but it had a lot of story, design, and hype factor that could have brought it a little higher on the list at least. I do appreciate that you dont hate on the new paper marios just because of nostalgia. Good video. Awful takes.
One thing about the Steak is that the Toads sitting around the restaurant give hints on what order to do things after the first failure; enough to put it all together. It's still dumb, and Larry nearly drove me bankrupt, but it's at least something. At least the concept is fun.
I actually like to fight Count Bleck and his minions, including Mr. L, Brobot and Brobot L-Type. They're each my favorite bosses in Super Paper Mario except for Mimi when in her scary spider form.

GREAT VIDEO DUDE. Seeing Hole Punch makes me think of Ganondorf in TOTK due to the max health being reduced. super epic. 👍 Nice rate of blazing through so many bosses too. not too fast that its just saying their names nor so slow you gave each one a 20 minute speech.

I love the General Guy fight, the buildup to seeing shy guys invade the mushroom kingdom and find out that there is an entire military squad is insane, and the boss fight is just so fun in my opinion because you fight the shy squad, then two stilt guys, then two tower guys and then General Guy is so fun
Finally, somebody who doesn’t instantly jump to hating on Origami King! I loved the boss system of the game, and I think it gets more hate than it deserves.
FINALLY someone who recognizes that Super Paper Mario's bosses are NOT great!! I'm so tired of seeing people saying Super Dimentio is "the best boss of the series" when he is easy as fuck and doesn't have any innovating mechanics that make it any different from any other boss in the game, get Bowser's flame and he will be down in less than 2 minutes. Imo Super Dimentio is only better than Sticker Star Bowser in final bosses and that's it.
Actually, unlike Color Splash, you don't need to use Things to beat bosses in Sticker Star! I did a full run where I didn't use any Things on bosses and still beat the whole game. It's a touch challenge to be sure and I fully understand people not wanting to try it, but I personally found the game to be more fun this way. Also, it gave me a reason to do random fights.
2:21 actually you don’t have to fight him, you can skip him if you say your “Luigi”. He will pester you every-time you walk past that bridge until you beat him thought.
It's a Rank 10 for the best bosses in Paper Mario (2001) like Crystal King, General Guy, Huff N. Puff, Koopa Bros, Lava Piranha, Tubba Blubba and Tutankoopa.
TTYD is the only Paper Mario game I've finished so I'm incredibly biased, but the Shadow Queen is easily one of the best boss battles I've played in all of gaming. At the time I was a kid so it was really challenging and it took me several tries to beat her- I actually remember the first time I beat her, my cousin walked by and tripped on the power cord and unplugged the Gamecube so I lost my progress and I was SO livid. Nowadays the fight isn't so hard since I'm an adult and better at the game, but at the time beating her was a huge accomplishment!
Dude for real, as a kid that didn’t understand how to make good badge strategies and dumping all upgrades into hp and fp that fight handed my ass to me the first time I beat the game. Then a few years later I did a bp only run and demolished her
@@aaronlaughlin2389 Absolutely felt! I just finished replaying the game the other day, actually, and I invested mostly in just BP for the first time. I had no idea how cracked some of the badges are- the game was so much easier this time around, even though I STILL can't superguard for the life of me (I'll learn someday! Maybe with the upcoming remake). It was actually insanely gratifying, and it felt like I unlocked a level of strategy my 8-year-old brain could have never comprehended. XD
Actually, the bosses from Sticker Star do have logical weaknesses. The Megasparkle Goomba is comprised of numerous smaller Goombas and can be blown apart with the Fan; Tower Power Pokey's individual segments can be knocked away with the Baseball Bat (the boss arena kind of looks like a baseball stadium, providing a hint to this); your multi-hit stickers don't lose their multi-hit abilities in the later battles with Kamek where he turns everything into Sandals; Gooper Blooper's poison attack can be deflected back at him with the Sponge; the Big Cheep Cheep has to be reeled in with the Giant Fishhook (this one's absolutely necessary); Bowser Jr. in his second boss battle carries Bob-ombs over his head which can be knocked down into him with Hurlhammers; Big Boo can be vacuumed up; Mizzter Blizzard is extremely weak to fire and healed by ice; Bowser Jr. in his final battle has a dome shield that reduces almost all damage, but can be destroyed by batting his own missiles back at it with a Tail; Bowser's first form summons enemies from a hole in the wall that can be patched up with Tape; Bowser's second form uses a Whomp that can be sliced apart with Scissors; Bowser's third form attacks with Podoboos that can be frozen with Shaved Ice; Bowser's fourth form attacks with a Chain Chomp that can be batted back at him with the Tail; and Bowser's final form is Nigh Invulnerable until plot-related stuff happens.
Fun fact: The reason the Shifty Sticker (Tape) sounds like a monster is because someone decided that the case looked like a car and Tape the driver. Additionally, the little metal piece that Tape puts on in the 2nd phase are a parallel to brass knuckles.
7:50 has bro ever heard of a thing called undertale? Its definetly just a spall game they collaborated with and definetly not just a reference to ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR VIDEO GAMES OF ALL TIME
The Shadow Queen's theme has a sense of urgency that's basically unmatched, but it's thematically appropriate since Mario & Co stop her before she regains her full strength. Which was imperative because Peach would be lost forever, and the world would be doomed (until another band of heroes unites or something)
Lava piranha was the first boss I saw when I was younger, I was watching RUclips then a video about every piranha plant boss popped on the screen I watched it and guess who the first boss was, lava piranha and that boss didn’t disappoint
11:55 I'm sorry, but no, don't even imply it's okay to count that, as that's not bowser jr, that is bowser, outright, that's his dad, just as a baby, you know, like how there's baby mario and baby luigi, final boss of Yoshi's Island, any of that ringing bells?
The Paper Mario Master Quest rom hack makes so many of these bosses far more fun than in the base game. i love how the Koopa Bros can give each other unique stat buffs based on their colour. they made the second form of Tubba Blubba actually hard which made him feel all the more intimidating etc. They even gave the master a Super Saiyan 3 ultimate form!!!
I always appreciate that Tubba Blubba was only a bad guy because the Boos kept fucking with him and having the Star Spirit was the only way he could make them stop, especially since you essentially have this conversation later with one of those Boos: Yeah, we probably shouldn't have keep antagonizing him...but we're also gonna keep right on doing it.
i wish SPM bosses were more complex. If they were reworked to be more akin to modern platformer bosses with intricate patterns/AI and whatnot, they would be masterful, and not just die from being infinite combo'd by attacks
So, you don't realize how many Paper Mario bosses there are until you list them in a word document, huh? That's literally me with regular Mario enemies, like, not counting those obscure ones, even the known ones that return a lot. I sometimes forget how many there are of them.
I gotta be honest, Scissors as a boss was so great that it ended up being my favorite all-time boss in gaming period, and no, I'm not even joking, with second to it being Meta Knight from Forgotten Land trying so hard to recapture the intensity Scissors had in TOK, and while it didn't do exactly that, it still ended up being one of my favorite bosses of all-time, just because the intensity of the fight reminded me of Scissors. CAN YOU TELL JUST HOW MUCH I FUCKING LOVED THIS BOSS?
I am today out that the magnus con grapple fights could suck up audience members and shoot them back at me. I just beat him before that happened I guess lol.
11:57: You probably already know this but the "bowser jr" in partners in time is actually baby bowser. I just thought i should let you know. Amazing Video nonetheless. Edit: Unless i misunderstood what you said in that part which uh...i probably done.
I will admit, he is the least gimmicky boss in Sticker Star. Mizzter Blizzerd has a weakness but it’s so ingrained as a weakness that you probably have a Fire-producing sticker by then, and while you almost fight with full capabilities with Petey Piranha the removal of Kersti makes it a slog like most bosses.
late to the party but yes, totally agree on the Gooper Blooper theme. Legit been my study theme while prepping for the board exams and keeping my energy up lol. Too bad it (and all the other bosses in that game) suffer from the aptly named sticker star syndrome where you literally need the right thing sticker, making the fight either a cake walk or literally impossible depending on if you have it and use it in the obviously signposted way...
A jojo reference and a mutual love for how metal/awesome the stapler fight music is within th s same video. My man just made himself one of my favorite creators.
Controversial opinion: super paper Mario isn't that bad Edit: i just want to say, Please quit going "oh ermmm. This is actually a cold take." I was like. 12 when i made this comment dude.
my tubba blubba memory was being near death from the heart on my first playthrough and bearly wining despite he only has 10? hp because he had like 3 attack and i had very little left after the heart
Underchomp is less Mother and more a dragon Quest, which inspired Mother. Even the optional flute item putting him to sleep being a reference to the Fairy Flute from the first Dragon Quest being used on the Golem of Mercado.
One thing about the boss fight against Bowser and Kammy in PM: TTYD is that, if you so wished, you could easily cheese that fight by just using Showstopper, which I'm surprised you didn't mention in the video. Of course, the fun way to fight them is to do it the normal way, but, if you're aching after that Grodus fight, Showstopper will save your skin (like it did mine lmao).
With many of the bosses in sticker star including bowser, you said that they required specific thing stickers to beat. The game does not have any boss requirements though, just strong recommendations. I don’t think there is a single boss in the game that you can’t beat with just a bunch of hurl hammers and healing. I would exclude the tail at the end of normal bowser, but the game just gives it to you for free if you just block an attack. Also, where is atomic boo from ttyd? They are the other optional boss in the series that is not a reskin.
EDIT: Apologies for the off centered text during the "Gus" section. Genuinely have no idea how that happened but hopefully it doesn't bother ya'll too much :)

XD
Haha same for me. As I kid my logic was like more hp = more better. The endgame felt impossible but I somehow made it after many attempts.
Its definetly just a spall game they collaborated with and definetly not just a reference to ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR VIDEO GAMES OF ALL TIME
that fight is in fact a earthbound reference
@SmoothJankz dude.... The name of the boss Is LITERALLY UNDERCHOMP, EVEN IN AN INTERVIEW IT WAS CONFIRMED TO BE A REFERENCE TO UNDERTALE
Chill Out is your friend in the Cystal King fight. When he makes more, the clones will have their debuff show up later.
"the next paper mario title isnt a traditional rpg"
Well....
If you haven't realised
The Coopaling Colors Stars theme is based on their scepters ones.
I always appreciate that Tubba Blubba was only a bad guy because the Boos kept fucking with him and having the Star Spirit was the only way he could make them stop, especially since you essentially have this conversation later with one of those Boos:
Yeah, we probably shouldn't have keep antagonizing him...but we're also gonna keep right on doing it.
ready for doopliss to be #1
8:48 Lets rephrase that, shall we?
THANK YOU, Gooper Blooper's music was amazing and I hate that nobody mentions it!!!
32:56 that dude acts little bit like a certain dictator originating from austria
i wish SPM bosses were more complex.
I gotta say Ollie’s fight from the origami king is probably my favourite paper Mario boss
ah the final words aged "well" as the next paper mario game is just TTYD
The Petey piranha from sticker Star is my favorite paper Mario boss fight.
Random: so who is your fav paper mario boss fight?
Me: M E A T
late to the party but yes, totally agree on the Gooper Blooper theme. Legit been my study theme while prepping for the board exams and keeping my energy up lol. Too bad it (and all the other bosses in that game) suffer from the aptly named sticker star syndrome where you literally need the right thing sticker, making the fight either a cake walk or literally impossible depending on if you have it and use it in the obviously signposted way...
im happy to see scissors as a top 5 pick, its theme is really amazing.
Mr. L's rematch was pretty cool!
A jojo reference and a mutual love for how metal/awesome the stapler fight music is within th s same video. My man just made himself one of my favorite creators.
Definitely gonna subscribe for more!
Controversial opinion: super paper Mario isn't that bad
Edit: i just want to say, Please quit going "oh ermmm. This is actually a cold take." I was like. 12 when i made this comment dude.
I say it's a bit underrated. It has a great story, great mechanic, and some great environments/vibe to different areas.
At this point, that is a cold take.
That was controversial only from Super Paper Mario’s release to a month after Sticker Star.
Idk why people don't like Super Paper Mario. It's one of my favorites
Yeah its one of my absolute fav games
Even though I used the danger mario method, I had a fun time with the Shadow Queen fight! :D
Hooktail can be beat without the sound effect badge it just makes him weaker.
my tubba blubba memory was being near death from the heart on my first playthrough and bearly wining despite he only has 10? hp because he had like 3 attack and i had very little left after the heart
Underchomp is less Mother and more a dragon Quest, which inspired Mother. Even the optional flute item putting him to sleep being a reference to the Fairy Flute from the first Dragon Quest being used on the Golem of Mercado.
27:38 Well... about that.
You forgot the most powerful boss in the Paper Mario Multiverse. The Rowdy Rusher: YAPE!!!
Tbh since this video just appeared in my feed I’m really sad I’m missing out on good content for amazing games
Plague outbreak gone wrong?
Is there a way that could go right?
You know I like the thousand year door but i love super paper Mario a little bit more
6:16 what? WHAT?!?! You put king croacus under shadoo, wracktail and monstar?!?!
27:34 buzzard
Actually the toads in the restaurant will tell you how to properly cook the steak
4:24 youre never gonna believe this
I just remembered, sticker star is one of the only Mario games that I never beat. I need to get back to that game
Shadoo doesn't turn into Luigi but turns into Mr. L... for some reason... (you can tell from the scarf)
17:40 but i beat hooktail on my first try without the badge??? (at 2 hp with a powblock.)
Bro I accidentally got these on my wii u by myself because of my curiosity and adhd and when I saw this I was surprised
Princess Peach would definitely fall in love with Bowser if She were Evil.
