I love that this game finally has a real post-game. Most games just let you save before the final boss and every NPC talks about how important it is for you to defeat the enemy, stuck at a moment before the climax without letting you enjoy the world around properly.
Looks are nice, but the big question is, are they going to change anything? If they want to fix some of the backtracking issues I'm all for that, but they better not add any woke sh*t. If they do, I'm not buying it 👎👎
@@y345vash9if you use “woke” (which was originally a term used in African American English that had a completely different meaning) in that context, then you’re automatically a red flag.
I love just listening to you talk about something you are so passionate about this video is almost and hour long but it went by in a blink of an eye great job make me want to go back and play it 🎉
It's been over 15 years since i completed this gem and want to come at it as fresh as possible when the remake releases. See you in a few months after i have finished it!
I love this game so much, as a kid I barely knew english being born in a spanish speaking country but most actions were shown in other ways, I had to rely on a spanish guide for some sections but it was something I used only ever so if I couldnt progress in days, it ended up being the most memorable game in my life next to Crash 3, so full of soul, so full of details, so MUCH PERSONALITY, everything is great, backtrack aside the game is a 10/10 for me to this day, it can be improved, a enchanced remake would make this game even better but with that said to anyone who hasnt tried it, do, its barely a Mario game (since mario is being usually related to bland formulaic games) this is an ADVENTURE
I like how Luigi tells you things about his adventure while his companion at the time (depending on when you talk to him) tell you Luigi is lying but they contradict that and just say that Luigi is leaving certain things out of what had happened. like at one point when he was trying to throw one of his companion (the blooper one) who was ok with the plan of being thrown in order to solve a puzzle Luigi had tripped and dropped his companion into lava (I think that's what he was dropped in) and got cooked (literally)
Found your channel this morning looking for sprite animations (mario super star saga style) and your series on superstar saga came up, i have to say i havent been so captivated in a video in a while and ive been watching you the entire day. You earnt a sub man
I 100% agree that chapter 4 desperately needed more content. People keep focusing on the backtracking and the problem being that it's too long but considering I'm pretty patient with repetition, I was far more disappointed with the lack of areas to explore.
I love this game so much but I have to disagree with the general white quest not being bad as flowery fields. As linear and backtrack-heavy as flowery fields is, at least it's progress in a new area. The General White quest however, is completely, utterly pointless. You literally travel around the whole world again, just to find out the guy you're looking for was in the outpost you got your quest from the whole time. A complete, utter time waster to, what I assume, is set up a gag. A gag that isn't very funny when you realize how much time you wasted
Just finished the Switch remake, which is the first time I played it. And I absolutely loved it. Dunno which version looks better tho. I wish there was a way to switch back and forth between old and new look, which ALL Remakes and Remasters should do
I disagree that the ending is just a retread. Ttyd adds the entire world into the ending, while paper Mario just uses peach. 64 essentially used the power of romantic love. Ttyd used the power of community. I think that's a stronger message.
Chapter 4 could’ve been one of the best if they either didn’t force you to get the letter P which is funny but more so annoying on replays. That would allow you to only backtrack from the town and castle once instead of twice which would be a huge improvement although would’ve made the chapter even shorter Or they could’ve allowed Vivian’s ability to move her and Mario underground in order to move past all the enemies that way you don’t have to spend so much time grinding or just repeatedly running away
Long videos are often just listened to in the background and therefore get less interaction like likes or comments, which is why they perform below average on RUclips.
So Chapter 7. I think there's a reason why they made you backtrack. They want you to revisit all the areas again to pick up anything you may have possibly missed AND also give you the opportunity to revisit everything one last time, because basically once you find general white, it's a straight shot through the chapter, and then the game rushed you to the thousand year door essentially saying it's very urgent, and why wouldn't you at that point? Why would you bother revisiting past areas one last time at that point?
That doesn't make sense given the game is designed to be linear and to not need to backtrack, the new powers don't help as you can first clear everything but Help Board and T3 Partners and you can take a pipe directly to the town to ask for General White or if there is no Pipe your method puts you directly at the town.
Hey, I have a genuine question, if you don't mind it coming from an older video. Why didn't you talk more about Vivian like you did Bobbery? Because Vivian's story is also incredibly deep when actually looked into and I feel for how amazing this retrospective is... it misses Vivian just a bit much. I'm actually on this video because of the TTYD remaster announcement and your video about that, because you do make great content! I'm just curious why you never really touched on Vivian's story much, despite it being the most prominent multi-chapter story of all the partners.
And I completely understand if I just missed it, but I rewatched the video and even looked through the transcript and couldn't find much about Vivian's story. So I just thought I'd ask!
Looking back through my script, (this was a year and a half ago) I did touch on it a bit, but yeah, I didn't go as in depth as I did with Bobbery, and that's probably because I forgot to lol.
@@ScionVyse Aye that caught my ear as well, you briefly mentioned what Vivian was going through partway into the video and said "but more on that later." It didn't really come up again though, so I figured it was just and oversight, no worries or anything. Been loving the reviews by the way! Binging a lot of them, they're super well constructed and thoughtful, made for a very easy subscribe button to hit
Speaking of Vivian, something that didn't sit right with me about the epilogue was Beldam suddenly becoming a good person just because the Shadow Queen was destroyed when resurrecting the Shadow Queen was Beldam's master plan from the very beginning. Unless they were implying that she was being influenced or mind-controlled in some fashion, they should've done a better job at explaining it. Otherwise, it just comes across as bizarre at best and mind-fumblingly dumb at worst because you have to remember that Beldam had still verbally abused and tormented Vivian, that you seriously trust she'll never do anything to Vivian again? If you ask me, having a family abuse victim join back with their abusers... doesn't feel like a good lesson to teach to children, especially children who are victims of abuse (maybe even by their own family members) like Vivian. So, instead, what I would like to do is have Goombella tell Mario that Vivian has been trying to socialize with more people now (her being a transgender female could also work well, too, since that was censored from English version) and also have Vivian helping out others who feel like they're unwanted. As for Beldam and Marilyn, why not have a post-game side quest where you choose to help them seek redemption when they (mostly Beldam) feel like there's nothing left for them in the world now that they're plan has failed? Maybe it could even involve the Palace of Shadow again where they even talk about their own lives as well and you could help them see that there's more to a world than just following orders and/or taking it over. Or, hell, maybe even just have them atone for their crimes. I know they probably don't deserve to be redeemed, and it's pretty cheesy, too, but, honestly, anything could've worked better than that part of the epilogue we got in the base game.
10:22 it makes sense in the Mario tennis game on GameCube. When you win is Luigi Mario walks up on stage and stomped on Luigi shoe not letting him have his victory.
TTYD is one of those games that I have try so hard to get into but utilmatly I just can’t into this game because it has the same problem with most other RPGs such as repetitive gameplay and annoying backtracking that just brings down the entire experience for me. Also I kind of feel like this game is a little too off brand for a Mario game with aspects that to me feels really out of place and kind of goes against the Mario brand. Now don’t get me wrong I do like it when Mario games become more creative and weird like Odyssey and Wonder but what makes those work is that while they are weird games they also keep what makes a Mario game a Mario game. On the other hand TTYD while it has a few recognizable aspects from the mainline Mario games it has way too many off brand aspects that kind of doesn’t clash very well with cartoony design of the Mario characters. Overall I don’t hate TTYD and I respect its legacy on RPGs but unfortunately it’s a game I just can’t get into.
Just having finished the remake on Switch, it’s definitely an overrated game. A great game, solid 8/10 imo but very overrated as everyone online hyped it up to be this 10/10 experience

But there’s warp pipes that allow players to fast travel back to each town. To be fair, they are a bit out of the way.
