    I may talk about the remake once a full year has passed to talk about it. On the note of combat changes, the way Power Lift works now essentially invalidates most of the bosses as the game's balance was not designed around consistent +4s being possible in Attack and Defense. So everything between Doopliss and Magnus 2 can become extremely easy to beat as most of those bosses lack any means of piercing defense.
    Sleep as a status being reworked to only wake up targets when hit by charged attacks, certain items, or enemy attacks is insane, too. The funny thing is Sleepy Sheep's turn duration was reduced as a trade off, but Mario's Sleepy Stomp still lasts for 5 turns. So if you put a boss to sleep, they're unlikely to wake up before you end the battle. And since among the bosses that can be put to sleep are the Shadow Queen, it is an insanely strong option in battle.

      @@PhantomAarantula I somehow managed to get a +5/+3 in the remake, but even then, the OG's +3/+2 made me really strong against bosses. It's easier in the remake, but not by much imo.
      Didn't know about the sleep rework, damn

    One thing I wanted to mention is the added poses/expressions for everyone, the partners especially. It might not seem like a big deal but it along with the better cutscene cinematography make good cutscenes into masterpieces. My particular favorite example is the death of TEC in Chapter 7. It was already sad in OG but the added expressions, cinematic angles and lighting and Mario putting his hat down slowly in respect were AMAZING!

    Now that I think about it, where did you get the song names when you were talking about the soundtrack? They're different from the names in the remake like _The Thousand-Year Door_ being called "In Front of the Door" or _Supportive Voices from Afar_ being called "We're Counting on You, Mario".

    • @ArtiTaphouse

    I’m surprised you or anyone has yet mention how the sound design of the remake is so much weaker compared to the original. For big example the hammering in the original is impactful and sound very much like you’re waving a big mallet around but in the remake it barely make any sound using the basic TOK sound give a weaker response interaction and all the weaker sound issues still persist even in battles. All the weird and quirky sounds enemies made are so tame down and boring. It’s hard to going into the remake’s battles with all that audio feedback being barely noticeable especially with superguarding, since a lot times in the original it was much easier to superguard due to timing it with audio, like piranha plant’s bites or just cleff’s charges. But in the remake it’s very much hardly tellable due the noise they make are less ear-catchy or duller compared to original. Just makes superguarding more annoying in remake for having one of the reliance gone or barely noticeable making it be more visual tell which SOME enemies don’t do good job on. Heck if it’s not the weaker audio feedback that keeps me from fully suggesting it’s better than the original then it’s the dang slow battle ui and text. Seriously why the switching battle commands just less snappy compared to the original, it may be lil nitpick but this small change really starts effecting gameplay 2 hour in when it’s easy tell.

    • @ArtiTaphouse
      @ArtiTaphouse  17 дней назад

      @@GlaceonAugeiberg I didn't have as big a problem with audio tells/UI in the remake, but it also helps that the visual tells are a bit easier to spot on some attacks, mainly the Dayzees.
      The sound design is a bit less punchy, yeah. Especially with them cutting the audience cheers, as they're much MUCH quieter in the remake. In hindsight I should've added that as a section, since I did that with the script changes, but that doesn't really impact much in the game for me.

  • @VMan776
    @VMan776 17 дней назад +1

    You're thoughts are almost exactly the same as mine, especially when it comes to music (although I'm more of a chapter 1, 2, and 7 guy myself).
    One thing I'm surprised you didn't really mention is just how slow menuing and dialogue can be. In the original you could easily mash through text and battle menus, and battle animations and level-ups were snappy. In the remake, though, speeding through text is much harder, and the animations for level-ups and sweet treats are painfully slow. It's not enough to ruin the remake, but it's easily the biggest downgrade to me.
    One more thing is that some of the names you used for the music is what fans called the music before the music player came in the remake. For example, "We're Counting On You, Mario" is called "Supportive Voices From Afar" in the music player, and "Sadness and Happiness" is called "A Bittersweet Music Box".
    Overall, great video! I hope more people see it, especially if it convinces them to buy the remake (which they definitely should).

    • @ArtiTaphouse
      @ArtiTaphouse  17 дней назад

      @@VMan776 I appreciate it!
      Honestly yeah, it's something I should've mentioned in hindsight, as the game is slower, and for text I'm not as mad about because it's an RPG, there will be dialogue (no joke someone during my streams told me Sticker Star wars better because they couldn't read English, and TTYD was so much mashing through text, and that had knock on effects.) the battles tho, yeah, the menuing could be better.
      Probably should've said the actual names, but I'm just used to the fan names, as I've been calling them that for years.
