I loved this video, but there is something you should know about King Olly's motivation. In eastern cultures it's considered "Taboo" to write on origami. This is because they wanted to encourage students of the artform to attempt to create models out of pure folding and not rely on drawing images as a "shortcut." As a result, there are superstitions about origami being "cursed" or "Evil" if it's tarnished by being written on. Because he was born from origami that had been written on, instead of "pure origami" he was simply born evil and became a vindictive, and impure person. It was completely out of his control, and it was unintentionally caused by the well wishes of his father. In other words, it was not supposed to be a "motivation" it's supposed to be a curse. The moral of the origami king is to not play God and try to create life unnaturally, when even the tiniest detail off can create a monster. Of course, that does not invalidate your argument, because it was never properly explained for western audiences. Another, thing of note is that despite writing on origami being a "taboo" it's actually expected to write messages of wishes on origami cranes. You could say that cranes are an exception to the rule. It's especially ironic that after he died, Olly's body became an origami crane. I hope this newfound knowledge, will allow you to see Olly in a better light. But it's still a MAJOR problem that none of this was properly explained in the game.

I see Fantasia, I click. Such an important film for both animation and music. A foundational part of my childhood, especially as both an artist and musician. The Rite of Spring and Night on Bald Mountain have always been my favorite segments. Each piece of music is a masterpiece though. ❤️

I am replaying the game (I finished it 3 times on Wii and now I'm playing it on Switch) and I was thinking about the lives system. For several years now, I have considered the lives system to be quite obsolete in platformers (unless it's a retro homage platformer like those seen in indie games, where it makes sense to have a lives system). It's a system inherited from arcade games, but having a lives counter doesn't make a game difficult. More and more games were already removing it, and I don't think that's a bad thing. And Donkey Kong seems to have understood this very well, as we are always closer to 60-80 lives than to 0 (in DKCTF as in DKCR by the way), but that doesn't prevent the game from having a very good, intelligent, and well-balanced difficulty. So what's the point of having lives if you receive so many that there's no threat of a Game Over anyway? Playing DKCR and DKCTF at their released comforted me in the idea that it was rather obsolete. But I am beginning to understand this game design choice. In fact, if there are lives in DKCR, it's to give meaning to the collectibles. The bananas guide the player and reward them a little along the way, that's the basics, like in Mario with the coins. And from time to time, they also indicate a secret, that such a place is not actually a pit since there is a banana as a clue at the edge of the screen suggesting that you can go there. Sometimes, you have to collect a series of bananas to get a puzzle piece as well. If you remove the lives, all this loses its meaning; the lives are simply a secondary pretext (since there is no real danger of Game Over) to justify placing collectibles that have a completely different primary purpose than giving lives.

You clearly do not have the whimsy required to get the most out of SPM. If you take the game to seriously you won’t enjoy it. You have to be able to laugh at it. I’m nice you can it seriously become my favorite game in the series. Chapter 3 and 7 are my personal favorites.

i politely disagree with the super paper mario levels at the bottom, for one reason i think they shouldnt be ranked with the others due to it being more of a platformer/puzzle game and i personally enjoy the flavor and all characters of the game and admittedly i love tedium more than the normal person if the characters are fun (i do grindy pokemon challenges for fun!)

Meh. Elysia has never been high on my favorite location list. In fact Phaaze is pretty much on 1st place, followed by Bryyo and Talon 4. I' also miffed how the Beams aren't diferent weapons anymore and stack. Frankly if I could develop this game I would have changed the way Phazon and the Hyper Beam is interwoven with the regular beam weapons and the Story. More options or more power.

The Nautica and Vince part are the worst of them all. I’m playing the switch game and it looks great to me

Of course no big surprise I disagree on sticker star especially world 3. I would rather do general white easily then do world 3 in sticker star that world can screw off. Taking everything away from u for one level just because the level amount not consistent with other worlds oh and wiggler yes wiggler next time he can help himself. The crapheads running away right after u rescue them and not just once but up to three times. Throw in all of stickers stars bad gameplay decisions and I see no redeeming qualities in world 3.

Honestly, I like the more ugly villagers. They add some substance to the game. A lot of personality has been stripped away from the villagers in New Horizons through their dialogue being utterly repetitive and the complete lack of friendship building that the older games had. The only way for them to have personality anymore instead of being one-dimensional is through their appearance --- and honestly, the "ugly" ones do that perfectly imo.
