i love doug because he can appreciate normal cars. most presenters are always hung up on expensive and rare cars, but doug has never been afraid to review a normal everyday car, let alone buy one. he's the most relatable car show presenter i've ever watched
This car is pretty expensive...
Yeah i also appreciate that he just doesnt get another g-class iyf car but sth reliable, subtle and frankly quite cool and for me more of a standout than a g wagon. Always loved those landcruiser its a pretty neat and good car.

Erm not really. Plenty of names pop to mind. Most journalists are really long past the excitement of driving an Italian sports car

Finally, a major car RUclipsr buys a car that makes proper sense. And is proud of it. Appreciate it.
As an owner, everything about the LC makes perfect sense except the hideous fuel economy.
It's nothing but subjective, it simply makes sense to buy what you want, especially with little research so you know what you getting into
Rest of the world has diesel versions
If Dough was rational he would have kept the e63 wagon.
Actually, buying a big car that is stored in a garage 90% of the year without use is the opposite of sensible.

My kids ask to go land cruising if they want me to drive through our yard.
Not funny bro
"How many boxy SUV's do you need, Doug?"
Doug: "Yes."

He needs as many offroad SUVs as how many undershirts he wears Imao

He should buy that volvo s60r with orange seats

Doug has always said "Land Cruiser is used by rich people who want to be understated" seems like Doug has reached that point. 😂
Absolutely
He has a place in Nantucket. That says enough lol
I think that applies for new cars
@@mystfire you can get a home on the island thats not much more than the mainland here. Yes, the prices here are insane, but it’s still not a huge premium to live there. Cost of living is a whole different discussion, as is transportation to the island, but the premium to buy property there isn’t as high as it could be.
@@mystfire and owns a Ford GT
Doug is the type of guy who owns high-end, quirky vehicles (Ford GT, Range Rover, G Wagon Cabriolet) and yet still gets genuinely excited over buying a used Land Cruiser.
Never change, Doug.
Yeah, but in all fairness, Land Cruisers are probably one of the greatest and most iconic vehicles ever made.
Lol it’s a Land Cruiser - one of the greatest vehicles ever made
Had my 2001 sequoia since 2009 and had never failed me no matter how cold it gets here in Minnesota. It still has the original engine, transmission, suspension, AC, radiator, rear deferential, even the original starter is still working on it. Toyota know how to make great and reliable vehicles. Hopefully one day I can upgrade to a Landcruiser.
I like how he constantly goes on and on about eco-efficiency while flying first class between the coasts 20 times a year. That sums up the hypocrisy (and the science-denial) of our ruling class in a very Orwellian way.
Oh, and btw, I'm not a subscriber to CAGW. I just don't like virtue signalers who have never owned a mirror.
For how inefficient, dull and overall very bulky some of those Toyota SUVs were, they were super fucking utilitarian, simple to use and fix and very very bulletproof. Death, taxes and a Toyota V8 drinking gas and lasting forever.
Congratulations on baby Doug and family! There’s a saying here in Australia: if you want to go to the outback, take a land rover, if you want to come back from the outback, take a land cruiser.
I wonder if he sandbagged the ratings for the Land Cruiser so people buy the Land Rovers, Mercs, or others so the pricing would come down. 😂
Very original.

Yep, a bunch of money and some Lambos. Lack of imagination. If I could afford a new Lamorghini, I would get a C8, a nice motorcycle, a summer commuter car and a winter suv for the same money.

One of THE most subtle enthusiast cars that has ever existed
@@buffalobob7721 ig part of the reason would be because in that video Doug was talking more from a car reviewer POV than a car enthusiast POV plus Doug used to be a lot harsh when reviewing whereas now Doug is more critical and reasonable.
@@buffalobob7721 he talks about why in this video. He hated the 2016 refresh front end. Hated the wheels. Didn’t need the “features” etc
I’ve owned a 2000TLC which I paid $55k to drive it off the stealership floor - sold it in 2012 w/ 120k miles, for $28k, then had a 2012 Range Rover SC LWB Autobiography trim level, that I paid $110k for, traded that for a 2015 MB GL63 AMG, which I paid about $115k, which I traded for a 2020 Escalade ESV w/aftermarket supercharger and related drivetrain upgrades…. Now I’m looking for a white 2021 LC non-heritage trim level, w/ the red/brown/burgundy interior, or the Lexus LX570 version of same, sans running boards… the Japanese products are of superior build quality and their reliability is renowned, thus the high demand for late model examples

11:23 For what it's worth, I completely disagree - that interior looks great! The color combo is classic and it appears to be in excellent shape. I'm also not a big fan of black leather, as it is brutal on your body in the summer.
I live in dubai any car with a black interior/exterior is definitely a no it burns ur body
My Jeep has black leather. It’s fine in the summer. Cars nowadays have tint from the factory. The only thing I don’t like about leather is it stores the cold in the winter time
Your so right. My dad has an old 05 E-class and its all black on the outside and on the inside. And sitting in that car in the Texas heat is so terrible.
@@IntelliPocalypse Well you can get a car that has heated leather seats and they often work very well if the car is new enough. Sadly my driver's seat in my 2008 Acura no longer gets hot all that quickly. It got warm fast when I bought it...less than a year ago. Now it takes a bit of time to warm up. The passenger seat gets hot almost immediately though. Tempted to see if I could swap the two seats...but might just be easier to find one at a junk yard and leave the passenger seat.
Only thing the passenger seat needs is a seat cover.

Have a 2013 LX. Can confirm. Its amazing. Can also confirm that it's really thirsty.
@matthew48390 Just bought a '13 LX as well!
Last year I took a 6,500 mile trip across the southwest in a stock 2020 Series 200, and it was nothing short of glorious. It tackled highways, backroads, snowy mountain passes, icy freeways, those back country trails in Joshua Tree with the “hey you could get stuck and die here pretty easily” signs; LA traffic, NM sand dunes and everything else in between. Not only that, but it was insanely comfortable, quiet, it kept our drinks cold in the center console, and held 4 people and all our stuff with no problem.
That’s a proper machine. I should have bought a Heritage Edition when they were $25k less.
Yeah I don’t know how you can go from a Land Cruiser back to the defender after this.
Just in case Doug reads comments:
- Warm congratulations for the baby, cool!
- Car choice makes perfect sense, great buy!
- Consider to leave it at a workshop that can spray rust protection under chassis etc, last 3-5 years, works great (Sweden etc) and keeps it fresh
- Put some additive in the petrol to keep it Ok if you leave it a few month
- Invest in a battery charger to keep it working (of course you did)
Problem with white cars that dirt are more visible compared to darker colored cars, but since it's an offroader, nobody cares.

I always wanted to buy one until they went up so high after the news. I’ve driven a 2008 diesel fully armored when I used to work at a private security company in southern Iraq at an oilfield at the desert, and it never got stock even when it rains and gets so muddy in the desert. Congratulations on the new car Doug, your reasoning on buying this is very similar to my reasons on buying a Buick Regal in Connecticut. I wholeheartedly agree on New England not being big on flashy cars. One big reason is Connecticut is one of the few states with car taxes that are collected annually. The tax rate is depended on the cost of your car so buying a big flashy car is extremely expensive up here.

Hello Doug. A couple remarks I would like to send you. About the V8 sign, letters that are together tend to stay on for a lot longer because the joining parts has adhesive as the letters. About the back seats, you forgot to tell they are easily removed if you needed a little more space (even though the base where they are attached will remain)
This is the reason why Doug is so popular, he brings a everyday man vibe to an otherwise boring car video segment. Tired of seeing, "I bought the cheapest supercar" videos. I actually really like this Land Cruiser. It has a reasonably upscale interior without it being too fancy or flashy, but it still retains that off-road capability that an older land cruiser would have, without it being to brutal or rough on the road
You might want to consider some anti-rust protection (such as a undercoating) to help fight the rust for as long as possible. Also garage the car if you can 😊
my man owns a ford gt but yet he is still excited about a 2010s toyota suv, how can you not love this man
How could you ever be excited about a tribute car.
It's a land cruiser. The only normal thing about it is the badge.
Its a Land Cruiser... a vehicle in a class of its own. Might as well not have a Toyota badge.
The 5.7 in the Land Cruiser is actually a little different than the one in the Tundra. It has stronger components. Everything is stronger on the Land Cruiser. The only bad part is the single digit mpg.
I get about 14-15 city and 18-19 highway with my 2013. The only time it sees sinle digits is towing a 6,000 lbs trailer with boat.
Weird how I went to every Toyota Class on the 3UR-FE engine never wasthis brought up one time and it is also weird how the part numbers are the same for every component I have ever ordered for those engine between those models. They make that engine in Alabama.
So says the Toyota car care nut
Little-known fact, the Toyota 5.7 is a reverse engineered Dodge Hemi engine with different tuning
@@Jag-leaper Not really. That is a pushrod engine. The 5.7 is an evolution of the 4.7. It has a longer stroke, timing chain, and aluminum block with cylinder liners.
As a hug fan of the land cruiser myself I'm as excited as you are 😍😍
Some advice: Make sure you use high quality gas. As you know, sitting gas separates (goes bad) over time. Either add a stabilizer or put in manufactured (canned) gas when you are away for months. Another concern is water condensing in the gas tank. Unlike mild SD, temperature swings in the winter on Nantucket will produce condensation. It is my opinion that Toyotas run best when they are used regularly. Maybe have/pay a neighbor take it out for a spin once or twice a month. Lastly, I'd suggest a once a year undercarriage treatment to inhibit corrosion. Perhaps NH Oil or some similar treatment. Cheap insurance to counter future rust issues on a 45K vehicle.
In all honesty, these are my favorite videos that you put out. I love the quirks and features and the reviews of all the different cars, but these videos are so personal and it is much easier to connect with. I learn a lot from your reviews and I enjoy watching them, but I would love to see even more videos about your fleet and adventures in cars. Bring back More Doug!
As a huge LC enthusiast and Doug fan, this made my day
We love these here in Australia. Diesel though. The premium on the last of the V8 diesels is absurd.
I had a go in a 300 series over Christmas and have to say you guys are missing out there.
Get the bottom sprayed with Fluid Film, Doug. I live in coastal New England too, less than a block to the water, and my GX (also technically a Land Cruiser Prado) has zero rust after being sprayed yearly at a local shop.
This is the most, and arguably the best justification I’ve ever seen articulated for buying a nine year old car. I dig it Daddy Doug.
Are you high? How much kool-aid have you been drinking? He bought an SUV to keep on a small island on the other side of the country when he vacations there. Nothing about that seems practical or justified. He found something he wanted, bought it, and talked himself into justifying the purchase.
@@cwg73160 it’s ok to have your own opinions! Maybe you can keep them to yourself!
@@stefanb5266 You don’t have to get angry because of someone’s opinion, guy.
@@stefanb5266 Go chew on a rock. codars is 100% right.
Hey Doug! One thing to note about this generation LC (and the respective LX 570) is that although it SUCKS gas, it doesn't actually suck it that much faster than the other v8 three row counterparts... But rather it only psychologically feels that way because unlike other cars who's gas light turns on when you have 40-50miles left, the LC light comes up when the car still has 20% of it's fuel left in the tank. That's on purpose. As you've noted over the years, this is the car that dictators and warlords need to be but reliable, not only by not breaking down in the middle of nowhere, but also by not running out of fuel. This car has a 24.6 gallon gas tank, but you’ll soon notice that if you fill right when the gas light turns on, you’re only pumping about 18.5~ gallons to top it up (I learned this on a road trip to Florida). Just something to note! Congratulations on your baby as well, I had my second child on Friday too!
but it still gives 12 mpg
@@fannoise2429 that's city alone, the combined mileage of my wife’s 2017 LX 570 (the Lexus version LandCruiser) reads 13.9 average right now, whereas my 2021 Yukon Denali says 14.8 mpg. Not that big of a difference. (to be fair though the denali has 6.2 litre v8 which is bigger than the LC/LX’s 5.7 so I imagine a regular Yukon or Chevy Tahoe might be 2 mpg better than the Land Cruiser, again, not really that different).
yup. they are gas guslers. & only good for road trips. ifs & gas & v8, no fkn good. do your self a favour, go find an 80 series. 4.2tdi. last forever. &,a real 4x4, not your pretend crap..but then,if your spending 120 k on a ""4x4"",, your never going to use it..status symbol only. better off with a bmw..ect.i have a s/duty, 4.2tdi, gets 12.5 lt 100, has 700nm. 230 hp. tows 4.5 ton, & goes off road, with 2 solid diffs.. cost 25k au.. ausie.. note,, & those prado,s are a joke..same as the fj, same chassis.build..yes i hate toyota, over priced, .rubbish...plus,, why worry about running out of fuel,,its petrol, gas. probably has the same gauge for the diesel.
Overpriced rubbish!? Sheesh. I’ve had my Tacoma for 15 years and it starts when it’s 115 degrees or below zero. I’ve never had a problem. I wouldn’t call it trash. I’ll only ever own a Toyota or Lexus.
They do get a few mpg less and require premium unlike most other fullsize suvs...atleast the LX570 does, which has the same motor.
I’m happy for you! Been through this feeling. Have one too!
Doug- douse the whole undercarriage w/ Amsoil HDMP, comes in spray cans, can have a shop do it, semi-permanent sets like a beeswax consistency & repels dirt prevents rust etc. Yamashield for the engine bay.
Doug is by far the best example of how somebody should responsibly handle, spend and invest their money once it really starts coming in. Not only is he one of the most successful and trusted car reviewers. But cars and bids is a MASSIVE success and such a big brain move on his part.
doug is a super humble dude, this stealth wealth vehicle fits him well.
Thanks for validating all the reasons why I bought a 2014 LX570! I was going to buy an LC, but found that I could get the LX for about $2k less in 2019. At first I was disappointed about going with the Lexus, but I've only had one comment about the cost, everyone else doesn't even notice.
Oh, I got Silver w/black, which was what I wanted. I flew to Houston to get it, Zero rust, and drove it back to Pittsburgh.
Doug well done, as a country boy from Perth, Western Australia I grew up with these (and the 4x4 Hilux of course). the Land Cruisers for the parents & the Hilux for the 20 somethings & surfers.
I love it...that's exactly what I've been looking for. The white is awesome and the beige interior is too in my opinion. Look at it this way, it won't show the beach sand on the floor as bad as the black. Never seen you so giddy Doug, congrats on the purchase and give us some updates on it in the future. Maybe even get a mild lift installed and some accessories installed? That would be cool!
So, the old adage is true; a Range Rover will get you to Nuntucket, but a Land Cruiser will get you back.
What I like about this review is you hit the used car market which has to be the high percentage of your viewer base. New car reviews are nice but there’s a high viewer base I’m sure who only buys used. Cool video
I always just love all the cruzers.. congrats on becoming a Dad doug
the best generation of landcruiser hands down! just the right blend of reliability and tech!
In my honest opinion the 200 series is better than the all turbo 300 series (it does however carry the old 4.0 V6 for middle east market only)
The new lc300 is uglier than a car crash.
The bots are out of control
Doug just reviewed a car that is literally the same as my own I can’t even describe my happiness
linus
Same here! 2013 Lc200 owners unite!
@casi what
Yeah! Amazing feeling
I think this is as close as he will get to reviewing my Starfire Pearl/Cashmere LX570, but it also feels good!
Doug, Since this LandCruiser is going to be sitting in a garage somewhere on the east coast, make sure to put a battery tender on the battery. The battery drain on your `13 probably isn`t as bad as it is on my 2018 with more computers, but it will always have your state of charge up to speed when you get there. Our L/C is an extra vehicle, so I use mine often. I will also agree with a few of the other comments about the color of your interior. I really love it, in fact, I was disappointed when I found out that color wasn`t available for 2018, after we had it in a 2014 Audi Q7 diesel (story for another time). Keep up the GREAT work with the videos, maybe in the future, you could introduce us to your new son. I`m sure that would be a crowd pleaser. The other Doug
Hey Doug nice find on the land cruiser! Those 5.7 iforce are bulletproof, my dad had a 2010 tundra with with the 5.7 and it was amazing but he got better mpg by putting a cold air intake, dual exhaust and bully dog tuner, it went from 12 mpg to 17 city and 20 highway also 380 hp to 450 hp thing would destroy muscle cars lol!
Man, Doug is a giant. I live in country NSW Australia, landcrusier's everywhere and they look huge. Doug makes them look like a compact sized SUV
everything is bigger in America 🙂
Yeah! I thought only i noticed it. He is pretty tall very similar height to land cruiser
I second that as well!
I mean, he is 6'3". As he reminds us in 90% of his videos. 🤣
And something like an f250 or a suburban makes a land cruiser look tiny lol
You can always count on Doug to have thought out the reasons for that specific make, model, year, color, and VIN
Haha Doug's enthusiasm is infectious. I can just imagine Doug speaking to his friends in Socal about his Land Cruiser.
Doug's friends: But Doug, aren't you afraid to go to Nantucket in winter?
Doug: THIS... is the heated steering wheel button on my new Land Cruiser 4.5 liter V8
Love the landcruiser, such a solid truck! I picked up a 2010 4Runner Limited in September for a lot of the same reasons! Just drove from my home state of Minnesota through Utah (all over moab and then to Sedona) and back and it was a dream :)
