      @@w12a3d From all the things Sreten has said, BMWs are a LOT easier to get parts for if anything goes on them and no doubt they are much cheaper as well even if you buy genuine. We're very lucky BMW make owning their classic models relatively easy to keep on the road compared to other makes, especially if it is something common like an E30 or E36, most parts are still readily available for these cars even though they've not been made for at least 25 years (30 in the case of the E30)

      @@eoghanobrien6980 I love how much misinformation is out there. BMW has stopped a huge amount of the parts (some vital) for so many of their cars. And it gets worse by the day, please don't give them credit for making classic car ownership easier. God forbid you actually want to buy exterior panels or doors. FFS they've left even their V12 owners to fend for themselves.

    • @SturbokSensei
      @SturbokSensei 2 месяца назад +1

      @@ahmedexplorer6175 not really, if you just wind back the clock to the B7 project, the support from Alpina was non-existent when he was working on the car. And the H1 block was so expensive from the dealer it would have made the project cost prohibitive if he would have gone down that route. And let's not forget, it was the actual Alpina engineering of the engine that killed it in the first place, and would have killed the rebuilt one as well if not for all the modifications that Sreten did that engine. This one had over 300 000 kms on the clock and didn't show any sign of catastrophic engine failure. We'll have to see what happened here but it would be a hell of a coincidence if it happened to just randomly give up 10kms after it was opened for a timing job wouldn't it?
      Sure, Sreten had to get parts hauled from unusual and new channels and the schematics and repair manuals might need some eye squinting, but at least he didn't have to re-engineer the basics of the engine itself for this car....

  • @maciejwitkowski9228

    I see only one path for how this can evolve... Lots of wrenching, coupled with declines from Maseratti to contribute to the project with parts, through Sreten figuring out how to couple a Fiat Panda block with Maseratti branding, down to the Maseratti CEO taking the fully refurbished car for a spin :)

    Aww man this sucks :( Keep pushing!
    You may recall I commented on your valve body repair on the X5, being a ZF rebuilder I was impressed at how meticulous you was! One thing I'd note about the ZF5/6/7/8 range...they all have valve bodies incredibly close to the filler plug, which can deceive some people by making them appear "full" when it's actually just being bounced off the valve body whilst being pumped in. I'd reccomend using a fluid pump with an angled bend to fill it, and do so VERY slowly. Another great addition for the ZF range is Lubegaurd Anti shudder fix....That particular ZF range suffers with torque converter judder, so we apply the additive to every surface we do (of which we do A LOT 😅). We aren't fans of "snake oil" additives, but I have to say we've been using the anti shudder for decades now and it really is incredible stuff. It helps PREVENT the common TC shudder but has also helped cure customers cars that are already suffering with the shudder. It's very good stuff.

    Hi Sreten! This just happens sometimes with true petrolheads, man. Few years ago when I just started that road with BMW I bought an e39 with m54b25, which was burning oil like a bastard. After awhile, when I've got a taste for BMW a bit I decided to swap a newly refurbished m54b30. It was running like a dream for 5 (seven!) days. Then one day I've got a call from my wife with strange helicopter-like sound from background) She was telling me that the car is running strange, vibrating all over and sounding strange)) Girls, you know) It was DISA flap holder thing, which was sucked into the newly built engine, got caught under the intake valve and tore this valve out, the valve started to fly all over the cylinder and crashed the piston, then the piston crashed the cylinder wall )) The car ran for a few kilometers with such a devastation ) I was completely heartbroken. I layed that night and thought that I either should quit with BMW or I should deep-dive to a completely new level with it) I think you can guess what I've decided! ) That's a part of our life. And without the taste of sorrow sometimes we wouldn't enjoy the full taste of victory when we overcome the challenges we face. Don't be heartbroken too much, man ! It will take its time, but you'll deal with it and will have a nice beer story with a tremendous happy end !

    I know you put a lot of money and effort into this, and putting in another engine and overhauling the new engine is good content for the channel.
    But there are also times where you could cut your losses and perhaps treat this car more like you treat a Depo headlight.

      It has nothing to do with Sreten or any other mechanic. It's just that they are garbage. This is basically the cheapest expensive car you can get from its generation - made for cheap, priced high. There's even talk that the engines are main line discards from the main brand - tho that's with a pinch of salt only based on a few pictures of broken castings from the factory on new cars.

      What do you expect from a highly kilometrage sport engine that had probably been mismanaged for a long time? If this car received the same care (but that would have been exceptionally expensive, I suppose) of other BMW restored by Sreten, probably it would have run quite well. The only criticism I would have is Maserati not making readily available parts, which is a shame.

    May i suggest, if every patreon of the 2345 just sent 5 $ to Sreten, we could at least take some of the financial pressure out of the equation for Sreten in this, lets be honest, very time consuming and expensive project as it was/is from the beginning of the journey out of the known BMW world.
    If you are with me, like the comment and show some love for our very best BMW restorer out there now. i am really hoping for at least 2345 likes 👍

Just done the same with a Ford Focus about a month ago - emailed Ford UK Homoligation department and it arrived 3 working days later. 3rd party firms wanted €200+.

    If there is any silver lining to this, it's that at least this issue occurred now and not when you were selling to someone or even in their ownership as this would spell a bigger headache. Further, at least the issue is very apparent. Sometimes life kicks us down or in this instance it stabs a trident in you but its how we come back from it. I've been having my own battles with my Peugeot 208 GTI and lets say its less fun all the way out here in Australian. Gotta love how things are only built to last 10 years before they start to blow up. Chin up Streten, we all have your back.
