    Don’t give up and get as many buddy letters. I waited 30 years before seeking counseling thru the VA and putting in for a claim for PTSD/MST. Ended up getting p&t 100% and I feel the Buddy letters were the biggest evidence. Thirty years ago they didn’t keep records. God bless all you are doing for veterans and hope you know Jesus loves you ❤️✝️💛

    This doctor seems very down to earth and compassionate. Yes, MST is a very difficult topic to talk about. I am going to my C & P exam in a few days. My first MST claim submitted after I left the Army in 1996, 26 years later. The anxiety is definitely building.....wish me luck.

  • @eofarrill89
    @eofarrill89 3 года назад +2

    Thank you for making this video. It’s very helpful as I write my statement. I had a question though. You mentioned that abuse prior to service could make
    service connection hard but what about a STR that says I told my psych I was depressed as a child and my parents had a history of MH problems. My mom died when I was a child so of course I was depressed for a short time afterwards, and years before I even joined the army. Will that make it hard to get service connection for the ptsd (due to mst) I was just diagnosed with? Should I explain the service treatment records notes the psychiatrist made in my lay statement or just not mention it at all and hope they don’t care?

    • @HillAndPonton
      @HillAndPonton  3 года назад +4

      Liz, that's certainly a tough situation. You'll likely want to explain those lay statements because they may come into play. Like we talked about in this video, the VA turns down many veterans for MST claims. Most C&P Examiners will write down what you tell them and the context may not be included. We've seen people get turned down, in part, because they said "they're doing good" when asked "How are you doing?" at the start of the exam. We did film a video last year regarding VA claims and non-military trauma / existing issues here: ruclips.net/video/f_Ye9plEhQQ/видео.html

      Hi Nichole, some victims, understandably, would rather move on as quickly as possible and try to get back to their normal routine or try to forget it ever happened. So many MST incidents go unreported.

    I have all the evidence. All they have to do is look back in the records. They call mine anxiety and give me 70 percent after all these years. Yet I have never been with a man again and i turned to drugs and alcohol. I'm sober now but still have all the symptoms of PTSD. I just went through another C&P exam and they said they didn't want to hear it because all the MST cases are being sent somewhere to be dealt with.

      Sadly they see not getting treatment as an equivalency to you’re better. What they don’t care to realize is if we have issues working we cannot pay for treatment and that some of us still have issues going due to the symptoms of our ptsd/mst.
