I heard the lady in yellow say onyankop)n which is a Twi word meaning God almighty too❤❤
The marroons were mostly from the mountains in gold coast. They were fearless, they climb down the mountains, fight the british and climb up. They possess special powers.most of the captives who were put in the condemn cell at the slave castles were Maroons. They gave the british hell fighting them.
I learned that history about our Jamaican maroons while attending school in Jamaica. Spain had colonized us first before the British. Knowledge is power, a lack of knowledge will destroy our people.
Nyankonpong is almighty God in Twi language in Ashanti ghana. Respect maroons
They also use Tata Nyame and Nana Sasi.
Some Jamaican maroons later emirated to sierra Leone. That's my ancestors.
Agreed. Infact, the oldest church in Sierra Leone, is called the Maroon church, and it is an historical landmark, in the capital city, Freetown.
should definitely check out the germans in jamaica
The abeng is an Akan word
it is true
They may come from different african baground but leader and hardcore are mostly ghanains examples kodjo Nany and Tekyi.
Everything the maroons say or do are 90% Akan influenced… the names they use, saying things like Abeng, onyankipong those are Twi words. Akan influence in Jamaica and the Caribbean is serious.
Rohan Marley (Bob Marley son) did a 10 part series exploring Jamaica from his lens, you should check it out
Maroons are Ghanaians as the history says cos they still have the Ghanaian language. Woooow
The maroons are akans from Ghana ... their language is twi
These people are really from Ghana. The Akans in Ghana in their culture use the horns. Thanks for the video
Yeah our fruits 🍉 and vegetables 🥗 are organic we pick the fruits from the trees 🌲 ripe and ready to eat
There are always sentinels to watch the entrance to the communities. If you were not cleared to enter you will be met by armed warriors and will be politely invited to leave, make the proper request and return when that has been granted. Even neighbours from the next Jamaican community up the road cannot just walk into a Maroon village.
PS Maroon naturopaths are amazing. I lived in a neighbouring community and never needed a doctor until I was an adult and got pregnant. Growing up, if we got sick, my mother sent for the healer. She came checked us then returned with a quart bottle of her own specially made medicine. Recovery was guaranteed. 😊 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
Lovely seeing this...those are my family ❤❤❤❤ wish i was there but will be visiting soon
Ashantis and Akans also say Abeng as well.
The maroons speak twi language of Ghana cos most of the West Africans taken there were Ghanaians. Watch the last part when she said Onyankopon meaning the Almighty in twi language and also ntosi meaning tomato and bese meaning Cola nut just the same mentioned in Ghana
It’s said the slave masters brought the slaves together with the food( plantain, cassava ,yam ,coconut and the rest) to make them feel home and never think of returning.
These people are 100% Ghanaians
They are ghanaians
it’s crazy to me he said they look sweet as soon as he seen the apple they def are and soo different from the apples here
We had Maroons in Louisiana way back, San Malo
The maroons were skilled in chemical, psychological and guerrilla warfare and camouflage wiping out entire battalion of British troops leaving only one to go back and tell the rest that the trees had killed them.
And trust me those apples are sweet
💛💚🖤Our only female National Hero is Queen Nanny of the Maroons.
We have 4 major settlements and all of them have tours available, the most popular are the Accompong Maroons in St Elizabeth, where you can do the Appleton Rum Tour as well.
The Maroons are a vital part of our indigenous culture, because most of them are mixed with the native Indians. They have kept a lot of African and native traditions within their semi autonomous communities.
We are definitely going on a tour!
Love the reaction ❤
