As a proud Maroon myself I totally enjoyed this interview. My grandpa is still alive so I know who I am not by paper work but by oral history handed down. Chief represents to the fullest. Well spoken Ina educated and articulated fashion in a modern up to date way that not only the elders can be proud of but the Youths of today can be enlightened. Thank you.

@askella A Amen to your comment! My mother's father, whose Grandfather was a slave, told him everything the Maroon did to them. The first Heroes Day was when I was growing up and attending school, and I told the teacher that the Maroons were our greatest enemies and an obstacle to our ancestor's freedom from the British. She told me that I was listening to too many Rastas. “My grandfather, grandfather who was a slave, told me, “
“I've heard the same stories, but I thought it was Rasta's propaganda,” She said.
Fire 🔥 for every Maroon! The government needs to take back the land and deport them to Britain and face their racist and wicked ally.

Did you know the Maroons also captured their fellow Blacks for the slave master? That has to be addressed as well. I think the Maroons get much more credit than they deserve.

I'm a maroon. Windward, wayward, If your ancestors was a ,double agent ,wolf in sheep clothing, Trojan Horse, traitor, he would be captured and returned.

@@JahmekyaNo1 I am from another caribbean island and know nothing of Jamaican history or the Maroons BUT if you all want to cause segregation by saying the Maroons captured slaves for the white man, then make note that ALL slaves, ALLLLLLLLLL, WERE CAPTURED AND SOLD BY THEIR OWN PEOPLE.
so let's start the discussion there! Let's go back to Africa, where blacks betrayed, captured & sold their own tibes to the white man so that today we can all, as descendant of slaves.... still be here fighting amongst ourselves and hindering our own progress as a people. discuss that!

    • @D.A.Powell

@@justbelit Technically true. The real plot. Took 15 years to. Execute 1st step was to Capture over 800 5 year old kids to return. Brain washing them to carry out Spain’s bidding. They still use black people to destroy other black people. Then act as if it’s not going towards their plan.

An absolute gem of an interview. Being a Jamaican living in of all places Belgium, I'm feeling very proud of my roots sister Yendi and brother Chief Currie. It's good to have a detailed refresher on our history and specifically the history of the Cockpit Country, which I'm feeling very proud of.
Being an entrepreneur myself, I'm proud to hear of the many initiatives that the Chief is spearheading to put his/our people on the map and to do it with Divine intervention and humility. Way to go!
Can't wait to visit and hope there will be a Cockpit Country spa in the making which came to mind when he mentioned Health and Wellness which is my cup of tea!!!
All positive energies go out to you both for your individual and global success Much love

We need to get somewhere and in order for us to do so we must learn to practice how to compromise. You keep repeating a lie over and over and over again. Even the most educated people will believe the lies if they do not read to find out the truth.
The Maroon was/is BLACK Jamaican greatest enemy during slavery. They would capture and return runaway slaves and return them to the plantations where the punishment was harsh and brutal in every way. And you believe that the Maroons were good Black people?
Did you know that of all the Rebels slaves, it was the late “TACKY” who was able to inflict devastating economic effects on the plantation owners, and it helped the Americans to fight the British monarchy for freedom.
Do you know who killed TACKY and decapitated him, and placed his head on a stick? The MAROONS, and not the British. If it were up to the Maroons, we would be in the cane fields chopping canes.
Don't forget that the British rescinded the agreement that they had with the Maroons because the White men knew that any person who is a traitor to their race is not a patriot but someone who you should never trust, and that is what the Maroons. Snakes that you must use salt and pepper to get rid of them out of your life.

4:53 Onwards was a very very interesting statement that surprised me. It is a school of thought that I heard before. Basically, Africans were already navigating and settling in the Americas before the Europeans "discovered" it. This makes the backdrop of Queen Nanny even more coherent and sound. So when government officials and its entities wants to come in and confiscate our land, our legacy we have to stand up for our rights. Taking a stance for our Human Rights, our Civil Rights, our Ancestral Rights, our Life, Our Legacy for our children and their children children's
The government officials are infringing and trying make money, sellinh the lands that which belongs to the citizens, not for foreign entities to come and build when we as maroons, diverse people are rooted up
We know our land rights. We know the treaty agreement, whether or not Jamaica itself took British authority and still under its authority sovereignty.

This is not a hard fix but greed of others create conflicts and deceite to put Cockpit Country in a state of antagonistic continuous road blocks of rights to exist. The Native Americans have their own governing police that works with the general law. Keep strong. There are more with you than against you (Acompong). Looking forward to visiting. Thanks Y.

I have to say that I thank Ms Phillips and her team for highlighting what treasures and national resources we have among all of subjects interviewed. These interviews are very insightful and have a very natural flow. The host has a rare gift and it is obvious how much research and planning is behind each interview. Each person interviewed from the legends like Ms Breakspeare and Mr Samuels, to the intellectuals like Prof Haughton to the epitome of sweat equity in Aunty Donna all stories are even more inspiring as each person interviewed has been given the equity to tell his/her story in the most powerful and unfiltered way. All have a message of having a focus in life that is meaningful, mindful, capable of transcending severe odds, inclusive, requires comradeship and is ultimately transparent/accountable. "Keep Pushing!"

Big chune at the end there Chief 🔥…It was a pleasure to meet you Chief Currie. All the very best to you and the Maroon nation. Yours is not an easy task, but as the song says “if Jah is standing by…” There is so much more I want to learn about the Maroons. Big up Yens for bringing us this amazing man and his story.

In what ways? The problem is that you focused on his "intelligence." You need to go and look up the treaty, for yourself, read and analyze the treaty. You will come away knowing that Currie's argument could not hold up in a constitutional court. So, do not focus on his perceived intellect, get the facts about the treaty. You heard one side of the story, and since Yendi is such a terrible interviewer, you came away impressed with his intelligence and good looks, but nothing else. By the way, did you know that the Maroons aligned themselves with the British to capture black Jamaicans and returned them to be slaughtered by the British? Did you know that Tacky was captured by the Maroons and handed over to the British to be slaughtered? Also, Paul Bogle and many other black Jamaicans

I've watched a handful of videos of the Chief, but this one was truly an honor to sit down to. Born and raised in JA but left when I was 12. All these years I thought the maroons were runaway slaves. Feel likkle ashamed to say that but a full cup never has space for fresh water. Thank you for this one Yendi and bless up yuh self Chief. On another note, every time I watch your interviews mi waan come dig up that garden/backyard and transplant it bakka mi house 😂😂 beautiful space. Would be such a joy to sit there and write some poetry or edit my next book. Especially with a little tears from weeping clouds

This was an excellent interview, Yendi! Smart timing too (or maybe I'm just late) ... I'm sure a lot of us are now forced to (re)examine a lot of what we've been taught/we thought. This forum also does a lot for the Chief's image as well. He comes across as more personable. #KeepGoing

Yendi, I've applauded on most if not all your interviews; however this one was exceptional. You asked the right questions, and got the Chief to explain his intentions for the betterment of the Maroons quite brilliant and eloquently. My one critique was wishing the interview had been a bit longer.
    Much love, and be well.

Absolutely outstanding work Yendi ... it is critical that we as a people acknowledge and recognize the importance of indigenous rights and rituals as well as understanding their contribution to where our country is today. Too many people are dismissive of their place and it is arrogant that the Jamaican government cannot humbly engage with the roots. Great job Yendi!!
