- Come on the journey with me to Accompong Town, a historical Maroon village located in the hills of St. Elizabeth Parish on the island of Jamaica. It is located in Cockpit Country, where Jamaican Maroons and indigenous Taíno established a fortified stronghold in the hilly terrain in the 17th century. They defended it and maintained independence from the Spanish and then later against British forces, after the colony changed hands.
The people named their community Accompong after an early African Maroon leader. After years of raiding and warfare, they established their autonomy with certain rights for limited self-government by a peace treaty with the British in 1738. Since independence in 1962, the government of Jamaica has continued to recognize the indigenous rights of the Jamaican Maroons in this area.

Damascus and Gaza are obviously Arabian why would you falsely believe they were in South America. The people of Damascus and Gaza look nothing phenotypically like south Americans and also religiously and culturally different. No architecture or structures common to Arabia have ever been discovered or mentioned by the native peoples.
I really dig the knowledgeable consciousness of this leader.. He knows where he's coming from and his vision for the future is bright.

I believe that Maroons should fortify themselves with knowledge of their purpose in the island of the sea. That they're a treasure chest of Asra (Not 'Israel') and are those that hold the culture of the lost tribes intact in our region.
I believe the maroons, under a young intelligent leader with a divine purpose should start their own outreach program to Jamaica instead of waiting on European cult leaders to create the system that facilitates remembrance to the people. The Maroons have the power to do the most.

I have never traced my roots but was told by an uncle on my fathers side of the family that we are maroons.

This is very informative. They deserve to have their Maroon Identification.
Before you offer support for the so-called Maroons, first find out the treaty that they signed with British. Also find out their role in the in the suppression of slave uprising in Jamaica. And there's no tribe called Maroon, it's a mixture of different Africans tribes and people who escaped from slavery and formed different communities. These "Maroons" have to answer for their alliance with the British and their betrayal to the rest of African Jamaican. So don't be so quick to glorify them, yes they fought against the British in the beginning but they also fought against there fellow Africans. And even now they still want to separate from the rest of the African Jamaicans.

I don't have enough information about the Native American treaties to comment on them. The British were losing and the Africans had the upper hand. The Africans should have let the British know that the only peace they the British would have is if they release all the Slaves and left the island. You don't sign a so-called treaty that benefits the oppressor. Like i said before Maroons is just a generic term, they were all Africans. And regards to self preservation, if they had joined the Tacky Revolution which if successful would put Jamaica under real African rulership instead of what we have now. They the so-called Maroons help the British to destroy many enslaved Africans from uprising and also help to capture runaway slaves, who they the Maroons was once enslaved. There is not enough space here to go over that history but its a very, very sad history.

I am a costarican, my grandparents were jamaicans, black costaricans are mostly jamaican descendants; your video is very informative and has brought me to the realization that I may be of the maroon lineage since my mother told me once that my great grandmother Carolina Henry was a maroon. I'm proud to know that I came from a people with high pride and started the liberation of the Africans in the Americas the maroons are practically the originators of our freedom. I look forward to someday confirming that lineage.

I have not found Maroons to be look different from the rest of Jamaica.
What you do see is that when someone is very dark skinned then persons will say he looks like a Maroon... But when you look at Maroons they are not any darker than the rest of the population.
For instance, one person told me that my brother is a maroon but I am not 🤣😂🤣 same mother & father... It was based on a line in his fingernail 😄
Reality is I am a maroon because my family says we are...and I believe that all black JAMAICANS are Maroon by virtue of 400 years of intermixing.

There was and still is various Maroon groups which actually went to war against each other... Wiping out entire villages... I am watching this play out right now as one of the first things my brother did was speak against The Paramount Chief L.A.Lewis who was his supporter and is backed by the other chiefs from Portland, Clarendon St Catherine and all over the island...
I am aware of the fact that SOME Maroon groups were contracted with the enslavers to catch and kill runaways... Even annihilation of an entire free village was done by Maroons According to the sources...
It's the same African drama...

The Government of Jamaica are to recognize the Maroon people by honoring their treaty by working with them to improve themselves, and community.
Not withstanding the Maroons fought the British empire which helped Jamaica overall.

The government of Jamaica is not entitled to assist the maroon unless they are contributing some economic wealth to Jamaica. My family is also maroon by blood but we are also mixed with German so I cannot claim full rights to maroon roots I do wish the best of the resolve to my cousins.

Mentally like this why our ancestors dream cannot be realized because we don't move forward. Every so called civilization is born out of betrayal ,murder, plunder and pligiting, rage and debauchery and Yet through all that mayhem wise men have come together to build great communities, Cities and Countries. We really need to preserve the culture and history of our indigenous people, the Maroons. They are an important part of our Jamaican culture. This initiative should start with the government and should be taught in schools on a deeper level. Great interview!

@@foreverolly8864 Actually Maroons have Taino heritage as they formed community with the Taino who were in the mountains. Maroons are a mixture of African and Taino (who are the indigenous Jamaicans).

Richie is very passionate about his background, I love it! I believe I may have heritage as a Maroon. I visited Jamaica for the first time recently. On my departure at the airport in Montego Bay, a worker putting sanitizer in my hands noticed the pigment in my palms were very dark and she said I come from the Maroon tribe. And that I came from a powerful people. She told my wife..." You have a fighter" So I went on youtube and found this story. Thank you Rochielin for this story!!

I remember meeting a maroon chief when I was in high school. Was very cool. Still remember to this day the presence he had about him. I see where it comes from. They need to start teaching our history in these schools

I had the pleasure of visiting a comping town about thirty years ago on January 6 it was a bus load of us from Kingston we heard about it and went we didn’t really know about the history we jus went to celebrate but this young man has taught me so much about the culture he makes me want to take an historical trip with my grandchildren who are thirsty for the knowledge. Leaders of liberation or traitors of liberation!? Not everyone knowing the history of Jamaica is enamored with the Maroons. A good argument can be made about them being traitors. In their deal for their own freedom from the British they promised not to harbour and to hand over any runaway slaves.To which they compiled. They were also instrumental in helping the British track down the instigators of other rebellions like the Morant Bay Rebellion, the Sam Sharpe Rebellion (Christmas Rebellion) and Tacky's Rebellion. To their credit they were very good at this. The Maroons were paid by the British government to track down the legendary Three- Finger Jack and his band of Runaway Slaves. The Maroons caught him dismembered him in 1781. I respect the Maroon heritage and story but it ain't all roses 🌹 and sunshine🌞.
