Beth said, "It's remarkably like the original." This is easy to understand. _Back in the day_ in which these artists performed they toured constantly. And there was NO lip-syncing and no-fakery. They HAD to reproduce what they recorded in the studio or they would not sell tickets. Many of the _one hit wonders_ were so because despite the quality of their break-out single they could not thrill a crowd. There was nothing worse than to go to a concert and hear an artist struggling to sound like they did in the studio during that one take where everything came together and for 3 1/2 minutes it was magic but they were never able to come close to that sound in a live concert. The artists that we know and remember are the ones who truly did sound LIVE like they did on the radio.
So close to the original. Which is what makes these artists so boring.
I saw Hall and Oats a few years ago, thinking because Hall had been jamming with some musicians recently, that they'd jam. Nope. Played all their top 40 hits, sounded just like the records.
Sucked.
@@johndelong7795 That's a valid opinion. My point was that it takes real _talent_ to reproduce that studio sound live. If you don't appreciate that then you don't. I'd recommend cover bands if you want a similar but different version of songs. Although some of those cover bands can come very close to the original studio versions.
@@johndelong7795you can change how the song sounds live but don't make it worse
He was very popular before he did the movie soundtracks. Also, he was with Jim Massina and had some great songs.
@@75Isobel Also Your Mama Don't Dance and Danny's Song are great.
One of the most underrated voices in pop. he really had a set of pipes. See "Forever in my arms."
Half the internet be like ‘wait, live aid was more than just Queen?!’
Pretty much lol. Also a lot of people probably don't know there were two concerts going on at the same time or close to it. One in Philadelphia and the other at Wembley.
Nobody thinks that lmao.
You should really give more of his live performances a look. He's got an amazing range and can still sing all of it to this day in his 70's.
There’s a DVD called “Kenny Loggins - Live in the Redwoods” from a concert he did with a host of great guest stars in Santa Cruz, CA. Highly recommended.
Chair dancing! Such a great artist. ❤️❤️
Salutations Beth,
This performance was just within the year of the movie release. By this time, Loggins already had at least 10 yrs experience doing live performances. Hence, he had the experience to know how to work the crowd and give them enough of the studio version while putting in slight nuances to the live version. Loggins had already been performing as Loggins and Messina since the mid 70s.
At this time, most performers knew NOT to lip synch or rely on the recorded version while on stage. The artists knew that people would not like or appreciate it. People were paying their hard-earned money and allocating time to come see them. Thus, they expected and deserved a memorable LIVE performance worthy of their resources.
This was also part of the Live Aid show so it would have been on some paid cable channel. To generate enough money for the charity, all the artists / performers keep their songs (at least) 85-90 % to the record / radio version.
After writing 2 of the most iconic film songs ('Footloose' and "Danger Zone'), it would be obvious that studios would continue to seek him out to bring the same talent and memorable catch song for their films.
Kenny Loggins has ALWAYS been a decent and respectful person to his audience and as a human being, in general. He would make sure that there were plenty of affordable seats to any of his concerts or general admission performances. He would also donate to various worthy charities.
I was at that Live Aid show in Philadelphia. I very clearly remember me and thousands of other people dancing like crazy while Kenny performed this one. 🙂
Great Reaction Beth! Kenny Loggins was everywhere in the 80s. Heart to Heart is one of my favorite songs by him. And he co-wrote "What a Fool Believes" with Michael McDonald.
Big fan here. He's a great performer and songwriter who became a movie music machine, turning out many great songs that, when you hear them, you immediately think of the movie they were used in. 'Forever' is another great song of his.
My favorite, he hits some notes in that one. I think he has had quite an impressive career - and I still enjoy listening to him
Footloose was one of my late younger sister's favorite movies and she started high school not long after it came out, so there will always be a special place in my heart for the movie and song even though neither are really the kind that I'd normally be drawn to (although I agree that it has a quality and rhythm that does make you want to get up and dance). Man the 80's feel so long ago!
There is a great video of him and Daryl Hall doing this on an episode of Live At Daryl's House. They are both in their 60's
You can’t NOT dance to this!! Thanks for a great memory - and fun reaction!! Got to see Kenny live a couple of times in the 80s and 90s. He was EVERYWHERE back then (a little like Michael McDonald)!! ❤😊
His "I'm Alright" from the movie Caddyshack is another fun song to chair dance to.
Still think of Loggins and Messina together. Still listen to A Love Song or Danny's Song. Still wish they were together.
Your our very own Disney Princess 😍 there must be someone do following you who can come up with a pitch for a movie or movies soundtrack we can put to Disney with a condition that you are the singer 😊
When he was with Loggins and Messina, he had (more than) a couple that are worthy of a listen: Watching The River Run, and Angry Eyes. While you're at it, go ahead and listen to Your Mama Don't Dance.
Everyone remembers the movie soundtrack songs, but he got his start with Jim Messina doing songs like "Your Mama Don't Dance" "Danny's Song" and "House at Pooh Corner".
Great selection....the music of my college days! As always youre adorable!
Nathan East on bass! Always love your reactions, Beth!

Live Aid had two concerts going on one in Philadelphia and the other at Wembley.
I recall watching Live AId n 1985 when I was 7 a little bit. Honestly I think since the concerts had so many well known bands playing different genres it watching it help expand my musical tastes. My tastes at that time was my parents music from the 50's and 60's.
I met Kenny Loggins in 1974. He was a very nice low key sort of guy!
Besides being a Movie Song, this is a Song to Move!
He did a couple of children's albums. So beautiful! Snappy dresser too!
My husband is the only person I know (personally) that actually knows all the real words to this song. I remember being in the car with him when we were dating, the song coming on the radio and me mumbling past the words I don't really know while he just belted them all out. I looked at him and said, "Who are you?!" Lol. Who else doesn't know all the real words and mumbles past at least one or two lines? Nobody? Just me? Well, ok then. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Legendary writer, singer and great guy. He is tall and pulled off not looking weird.
Conjured memories of Flashdance, Footloose, and Dirty Dancing. 😊
It is catchy as hell, and always have been. I was hooked from the 1st bar the 1st time I heard it.
Think this could be categorized as "handbag" music.
Better go and see Kenny Loggins live because after this tour he is retiring from the road at 75 years old
You need to go back further now and listen to his previous incarnation - Loggins & Messina! They had a ton of great songs and were a massive hit! House At Pooh Corner comes from that era!
I miss the 80's :D
Kenny Loggins is more than just a Pop/Movie song artist, he has a long background in writing music too. If fact Rick Beato included him in the top 20 writers of all time. His time with Jim Messina was excellent and lead to a even more impressive solo career. He was a master of collaboration. He wrote with Michael MacDonald, Stevie Nicks and Steve Perry to name a few. His bands were made up of the very best touring musicians too.
Fun fact he did not write Footloose but subsequently movie's scores he did. If you really want to get a true taste of his work check out his "Live from the Redwoods" Album/Videos.
Also up here on RUclips is the song "Almost Paradise"from the same movie with singers Mike Reno and Ann Wilson of Heart..Their is no live version of them both singing because it was just the studio version for the movie and it is said they both did it in one take in the studio.. But there is a live version of Kenny Loggins and Ann singing it up here on RUclips from the early 2000's Maybe sometime you can do a reaction to it...
Los 80.S. Una época muy bonita en lo personal me gusta su estilo de vestir las chicas se veían muy bonitas bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
He also states that his career was waning, and the movie scores saved him.
This guy is so much more than movie music. Try "Danny's song" next.
Performed at Live Aid Philadelphia
And it's more epic this song having Kevin Bacon dancing the theme at the very beggining of the movie. He made awesome moves! Who could have said!
melody reminds me a bit of the riff in All Right Now by Free
check out Kenny Loggins - What a Fool Believes (from Outside: From The Redwoods)
Wow... that's Live Aid. About 1985.
高校生の頃の曲。懐かしい。
saw him with Jim Messina back in 73
Kenny almost has perfect pitch. You need to really watch some of his live performances, flawless most of the time.
Kenny Loggins and Steve Perry - "Don't Fight It"
I have broken a few chairs doing chair dancing when i listen to music lol
Please listen to California dreaming by Diana Ankudinova from ninth episode of mask show. Diana took off ermine mask and sang this song
I get ads for the Footloose musical all the time! it will be close to where i live at the start of next year, and I really want to go there! i gotta see if i'll have the funds for it
❤🎶Chair dancing 🎶❤
Kenny is always great, of course but the star of this song is the legendary Nathan East. The bass just drives the song the whole way.
2:40 - «How crazy is that?»... it's Tom Cruise.
If you want to listen to one of his songs that really features his vocals try Celebrate Me Home.
Hello Beth, could you react to Pedro Messone with his song "El Ovejero"? (this song was a tribute to the country man of Chilean Patagonia). Pedro Messone was a great and beloved Chilean folklore singer, he belonged to the group "Los 4 cuartos" as the main voice and later he was a solo singer, he recently passed away at the age of 83 years.
Let’s see some analysis on Gotye, “somebody I use to know” or I think “Bronte” is good vocally.
"Play Kenny Loggins".
"Loggins and Mesina".
"DID I SAY MESSINA?"
3:25 Kenny Loggins used just this "tooc-tooc-tooca-tooc" to explain the rythm to the drummer when they recorded it again "Live from Darryl's house"!

Oh crap. I have to see Final Space again
Someone claiming to be Kenny Loggins tried to talk to me on an analysis video (comments). Hey, Kenny! Are ya here? Lol
Kenny Loggins haa one of the best voices. Similar to George Michael.
Two seconds in....is that Nathan East?
Make a video reacting to Elis Regina blue train
can u do local h. PLEASE
Hello 🙂👍❤️
It’s a shame you didn’t use some of his current live performances. He still has the same singing voice.
Great choice, great voice but one of his worst songs. He is known to me for the many albums he made before his movie stuff.
Never cared for his music.
