2005 Chevrolet Colorado 2.8: O...M...G...!! I just spent 8 hours changing the starter! WHAT a pain in the neck! Had to remove the tire, intake manifold, belt, alternator, battery, and fan shroud!! There is NO way to remove it from the bottom! The next time I WILL CUT the inner fender, or just pull the entire engine!!!
The internet trolls came after for this one, but ask me if I care, lol. The guy that owns this truck lives a few houses down from me and I can tell he is still driving it around with no problems and huge smile on his face 🧑🏼🔧
bench test starter before you put it on no need to cut out as much about up to steering yoke no need to cut all the way to booster -black tape wobbler so it dont fall off i think starter stud on back is a little too long
I have a problem with my truck, this morning it wouldn't hold the crank, battery is good, fuse look good. lastly if might be my starter. So I have a 2016 colorado LT 4cyc auto, is the starter in the same position as your 2009. I can't find my starter, do I need to remove the driver side wheel. let me know
I did the same cheat with cutting out that piece, but I'm still having trouble getting the dam thing out to replace it. Are you working with the automatic, or manual? Mine is a manual 4 cylinder and looks different. I have the motor mount in the way. Please reply and let me know what you did here. I have a feeling yours is a 5 cylinder. Thanks man
Now that's my kind of wrenching make it easier next time. the rule of thumb is if it was super complicated and hard the first time try to make it easier the second time if you happen to be doing it again.
i really am impressed, with the determination, not to change the starter, it prob took ole Boy here 4 days, but the video making determination, i would have made a video of something you are better at maybe i dont think auto mechanics is really something you should consider as a skill man. at least this video i can show to people and say this is what happens to your truck. youre funny though whn you said its ok these colorado trucks are unibody i bout lost it haha unibody like your daddys 65 impala is just like your 01 impala right ? donk is a donk. you i think maybe are.. you must paint you paint houses and hang out when youre done working at 2 cause the shakes get so bad i wish i could have seen the part in the video when you see there is like a total of 6 bolts and 4 nuts for the manifold and said f it im cutting out the wheelhouse!! and its steel man not aluminum, wait till they lawyers try to put together who modified the steel wheelhouse thats there to stop something from coming up from the road and takes out the driver and his kids in the truck, when your zip ties and elmers glue if your done stiffing it, doesnt stop that rock that fell off the truck on the 405 , you might want to change this to a just kidding video and maybe grab a coloring book but only get the colors you can spell, or named your grandkids after dawg, customer is like... mother f er put the pipe down. make a video on how to change the oil in your chainsaw you cut the cab up with.. lol ill watch part two. danny boy sees a 2001 cadillac deville. danny joe it doesnt look bad from my cellblock .matamos. well done made me laugh, go change a tundra starter, colorado aint bad dont be so scared , note if you are?? stop the video rethink where your lifes at. get back to work, cause ihop is a bi
I have a 2005 with the 2.8L 4cyl and manual 5spd. I did the same thing when I removed my starter, I didn't cut away that much material, but maybe I should have. It's all covered up by the black plastic fender liners anyway, no one will ever see that it was cut.
@@zacktoner2387 I don’t remember the nut size, it was all metric though. In the end, to do the job correctly per the GM repair manual: Remove the upper radiator shroud. Remove the serpentine belt. Remove the front engine lift bracket. Remove the alternator. Undo the fuel lines behind where the alternator was. Remove the intake tube to the throttle body resonator, and that top resonator. Remove the intake manifold, I think it’s 7 small bolts, go in through LF wheel well, you have to remove that tire. Then, and only then, can you access the starter and the 2 bolts that attach it to the bellhousing. It’s ALOT of work, but not out of the ability of someone who is mechanically inclined though.
Can somebody PLEASE do a 2015 colorado....DAMN

Did mine last week Truely fun mine was 3.5 4/4 I took few plugs loose
Great video. Actually fascinating. Rivals a surgeon operating on a tough to find tumor and removing / repairing it. Well done.
"It's a unibody truck" while the frame is clearly visible in the shot.
lol its okkk its a unibody??... wait. its a??.. is that?/ there is a frame cono.. its ok its not a unibody and adds to the shaking on the highway
Thanks very helpful , Cut the body is the only way. Genius at GM to put pipes in front at the starter. I used bent wrenches for starter nuts ,works.

I guess for the rest of us that don't want to butcher the unibody will have to find another video where they actually pull the intake
I didn’t butcher it bro, I put a baby notch in it, lol!!!
Breath homie the vehicle is going to be just fine 😉😜🔧
Chevy butchered that shit from the factory. This man is upgrading it.

What size was the nut on the back side of the starter?
