my grandad had one of these from the mid 80s - even with its piddly 4 cylinder engine, it went absolutely anywhere without issues. One day i'll throw something fun under the hood and restore it to glory
Nice truck! I have an 85 with an exocage. It protects the body as well as allows you to 17:56 eliminate the rear stock roll cage for more interior room. I’m 6’2” and slept in the back while doing the Dusy-Ershim. I have so much done on mine and the list keeps growing! It’s addicting. Keep goin Bro!!!

Nice truck, I would recommend an intake thats isolated from the engine bay, it will make a huge difference and the engine will have more pep especially low end torque
Your gonna love it my truck is almost the same set up. I’ve had my sas 86 4 years now pickup 1jz vvti 35” 5.29s & grizzly in the rear and a Toyota elocker up front. Tg 5” front leafs and Chevy rears front and rear tube bumpers and sliders 🤙🏾🤙🏾
DoeBoy 407 the auto in the 3rd gen is the same behind 1uz ls400s and TT auto supras. AW 3040 is a brick house of a trans but very power hungry but that could be good for spool
I have an 86 turbo model. It has a regular 22r motor swap and a manual transmission from a 95 truck I bought from a Japanese import place. Sun roof, Power windows, and ac that sucks but I love the thing. I tow my 15' boat and it does just fine. I need one of those tops.

Sir William Goes yeah that is for sure! I’ve debated doing total chaos but I haven’t been able to pull the trigger on either as it’s hard to justify if you still want to daily it... maybe one day I’ll decide to go blazeland but I got some more upgrades to do first

I was intrigued by the Supra turbo but was lost with the IFS and no recovery/sliders. I wheel in the West so must be completely different from wheeling in the East. Looking for an engine swap option for my fist gen pickup, have a 22R and with added armor it’s slow AF but it still runs. Trucks are most definitely personal preference, love the outside of this truck.
I touched on most of the stuff you brought up in the video. I'm not done building the truck and it will be getting sliders, roll cage, rear tire carrier, hitch mountable winch, etc. Not planning on a solid axle swap unless I suddenly decide to make it a dedicated offroader. Who knows, I might change my mind!
He does not want a solid axle because he jumps it and drives fast lol And plus the jz makes it’s power in the high end so the ifs and jz make sense together
How has the axle held up? I’m putting an LS into my 84 4runner. I have chromoly front and rear axles already. But also have a Ford 9” I’m thinking of building to put in. Only running 35’s and 33’s in the sand
Drake Moore I’m pretty sure will fit any ifs Send marlin an email and ask I even did hd cv joints from a Porsche A lot of dune buggies use them of course I had to re spline the one end to Toyota to make it fit, but was worth it ! Maybe West Coast Off-road might have leftovers they are Indestructible (neal sullivan so cal) I’m pretty sure if you ask they can do to the older models dimensions they do a lot of custom stuff.

I know it’s been 2 years and the long travel you mentioned were what was available then. I’d recommend taking a look at the Marlin RCLT

Yeah he's still building has to make skids and recovery. Wheeling def different but you still definitely need protection

If I were you I would go ahead and build the 9" and swap that in. My ring and pinion let go last year. I ended up swapping a tundra axle under it.
Got the 85 pick up with the 22 ret always had problems with the motor gonna swap it thought about a supra swap but I guess a ls swap is cheaper .
Depends on what you want. The swap cost about 6k total.

I have been way faster than I should in it. It has 4.88 gears and 35's, so in 5th gear at 70mph I'm around 2900 rpm.
