    I've always thought the n64 version was gorgeous it just suffers from sound compression because it's on a cartridge unfortunately. The music in the ps1 version is amazing.

    N64 is the first version released and has almost got every single feature Ubisoft intended to include in this version, similar to the PC version, which is the second one released, almost right after the N64 one.
    It has smudged textures thanks to the console's ability to render filtered textures, which helps for quality, but sometimes they kinda look out of place and bad, especially on bigger models. It has all the lums, of course, but lacks of minigames and secrets, and the characters speak Raymanian.
    The PS1 version, the 3rd release, was later developed with some cuts and additions, involving the voice acting that added 5 language dubs, some lines to more characters, the number of lums (from 1001 to 800. Razorback eats a red lum here.) and some redesigned parts of levels to fit in. Whoever collects all the lums is rewarded with a playable 2D beta of Rayman 2, exclusive to this version.
    The 4th release, the Dreamcast one, is an improved Rayman 2 with some enhanced aspects of gameplay, such as better models, 2D sprites being replaced by 3D models, a wider camera, more content and playable minigames. Pretty well acclaimed, but the Dreamcast had it's inevitable sad fate.
    The 5th one is Revolution, a PS2 port that includes all the Dreamcast features but also adds more minigames and level elements, including a free roaming map that works as a level selection hub.
    If you were forced with the PS1 and N64 versions, I'd say to try both. The PS2 version is by far the most reliable and better version.

    It shows the strenghts and weaknesses of both systems.
    N64 got proper filtering and basically smoother frames.
    Playstation has speech samples and better textures. It got longer loading times and geometry wobbeling

    • @overwatch761

      Textures are the same, it is just the N64 puts them through multiple passes which smooths over the detail., the 3D modelling and stability is vastly stronger on N64 as it should be.

      The N64 version also has a properly textured skybox whereas the PS1 version just used flat shading. A lot of PS1 games used the same for a sky because of the limited number of textured polygons that it could render.

      Every system is a series of compromises, because of cost, even the PSX. The N64 had more expensive chips and more and faster ram. To stay within a reasonable budget you can't add a cd drive too. Carts cost more, but load super fast and are very durable. I have one N64 cart that ever game me trouble, and a decent size handful of PSX cds.

    • @apollosaintsurya4664
      @apollosaintsurya4664 6 лет назад +2

      Honestly id agree, and I did for soo long. But i saw a video on why they used carts, its alot more than just loading times. The games could have saved core object changes on the cart itself the CD couldnt rewrite itself, and was limited to just the memory card. Also becuase of thing and a 1, 2 other advantage they were able to upscale becaus eof the read speed, frames were alot better per sec, and the environments were huge and open, CD's at the time were limited to loading small areas that couldnt be rewritten. It made games like zelda impossible on ps1 even with lower graphics, the draw distance would always be very limited. It was a good mix, i honestly wish they just upped from 64mb carts to at least 128. So games like Vagrant Story for ps1 are full RPG's but only take 84MB would have been more possible for n64. I loved RPG's so this was a bummer for me so i just stayed with my SNES.

    The gap in time between the PS1's release date and the N64 is about 19 months. The gap between N64 and Dreamcast was 29 months. Considering this, N64 is a bit better than PS1 at some things and worse at others, but MASSIVELY inferior to Dreamcast at everything. That about sums up the N64's lack of advancement to draw gamers away from Playstation. This game on Dreamcast runs at 60FPS for a start, it annihilates the N64 version. I remember it fondly.

  • @pikachu896

    N64 wins, obviously, and with the Expansion Pak, the game looks even better. I think the music sounds slightly better on the N64, but it's also good on PS1. However, the voices on the PS1 version bother me so much, they don't sound good at all, I don't know why people keep mentioning them as a positive for the PS1, the gibberish of the N64 sounds more fitting to be honest.

    The N64 is a much more powerful system. With a good developer it's games look way beyond what PS1 can provide. Rayman 2 on N64 runs at 640x480, features larger levels, more polygons, faster framerate, higher detailed textures and anti aliasing. PS1 version runs at 320x240, no AA, features smaller levels, less polygons. It is a technical marvel on PS1.

      That's a bit unfair since the dreamcast has an extra 3 years of technology on the N64 and 5 on the PS1...
      It sits uncomfortably in the middle of two console generations, which probably contributed to it's downfall since it very quickly had to compete against the PS2, gamecube, and Xbox, all of which made it look rather weak...

    Já no Nintendo 64, as musicas são piores. Porém, os gráficos são muito melhores, com cores super vivas, texturas mais detalhadas, anti-aliasing, etc... Sem contar que o Level design é diferente da versão do Ps1, sendo as fases mais longas e mais completas. Enfim, esperava-se que esse jogo fosse melhor nesta plataforma, já que ele foi desenvolvido inicialmente para a mesma.
    Seria legal fazer uma comparação entre a versão do Ps2 e Dreamcast! :)

    Ray Man 2 was one of the few games that wasn't adversely effected by the trilinear filtering of the N64 which resulted in excess blurriness to the textures. I think the textures did not fit the filtering right in other games that had excess blurriness. While in theory tri-linear filtering was suppose to clean out textures from pixels, instead blurred them to the point where pixels were more preferable.

    • @theobserver4214
      @theobserver4214 8 лет назад

      Samuel Morales Yea, the N65 had a terrible texture cache (the Saturn had over 250 pixel for the textures) but there was no filtering, then the PC and Dreamcast comes and blows N64 to its grave with texture filtering AND high quality textures

    • @KuraIthys
      @KuraIthys 7 лет назад +3

      The textures simply lack resolution in general, it's not the texture filtering.
      Meanwhile the PS1 usually can't even do one of the most basic of basics of 3d graphics properly (perspective correct texture mapping.)
      Still, the N64 has a reprogrammable graphics chip, and could have turned all of those features such as trilinear filtering, antialiasing (yes, it had antialiasing) and so on off, but Nintendo didn't let anyone do that.
      The trick to n64 games not looking blurry is more complex than texture filtering. - You can see it in the later games such as Rebel Strike and Conker's bad fur day; The developers reprogrammed the system to handle textures differently, which resulted in considerably more texture detail onscreen.
      Turning off the texture filtering wouldn't have made n64 games any more detailed, it would have just made them seriously pixellated.

    Because of large space in the media, PS version has dubbed voices and larger textures. The advantages ends here. The horse power of N64 make the elements move smoothly, while in PSX, everything shakes (textures, polygons, it's distortion everywhere). And this is valid for ALL 3d games on N64 and PSX. In other words, N64 calculates the things more smoothly and precise. PSX is like playing an earthquake. Still, a few games managed to look good on PSX, but the lack of elegance processing polygons, makes ALL games on n64 less nauseating than in PSX.
    I'm talking only about graphics, clearly, Sony made market decisions that helped the PSX beat n64 in sales (when Nintendo discontinued the N64, sales numbers were 32 million N64 vs 72 million PSX. After this, PSX managed to sell above 100 million consoles.
    But to be honest, despite of having absolute classics like FF VII, Symphony of the Night, or Metal Gear Solid, PSX games aged worse than N64 games. It's easy to observe that, any lists of best of all time, we always find 3, 4 N64 games between the Top 10, and not a single one of PSX in the lists. GoldenEye was fantastic, Perfect Dark managed to have a so gorgeous and complex multiplayer, that no game until 2018 managed to overcome. You can configure absolutely everything and build the most insane, fun and deep matches in any FPS game in history. Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time share the throne as the best games of all time in any serious list.
