Fun fact: the Saturn version uses the Jaguar intro when starting up but with different music, and uses the PS1 video after you create a new file. EDIT: Sorry, I meant it uses the part where Rayman is assembling himself. The text part is not used.
Jaguar seems to have slightly better colors. And the part where you ride the first boss plays more like a shooter than the psx version did, where Rayman did the attacking with his fist. did. No rain effect on the stage where you plant platforms to climb up. PSX version though, has superior music and sound effects.
I love the Jaguar's use of up close up layers of parallax scrolling the PS1 is missing it, also if you look closely the Jaguar had much more detail in the environments like the mount of random butterflies flying around and I also like the sharper more pixel crisp presentation over the PS1 softer anti-aliasing. Keep the FMV portions I'll take better game play presentation.

The reason its better on Jaguar is becuase RAYMAN was created for the Jaguar. The playstation version is a port of the Jaguar lol. The Jaguar Rayman is the authentic and original version
For me getting the PS1 version on the classics section of PS3's online store was a no brainer because that way I get to play it on my Vita's beautiful OLED screen. It's like playing it on a portable CRT. The Vita has ridiculously good contrast and color. Another strong reason why having a PS3 is better than having a PS4. Many classic games available on PSN for PS3 do not even exist on the PSN for PS4. Rayman 2 Revolutions, Tokobot Plus, Digital Devil Saga, all 3 PS2 Fatal Frame games, Blood Omen, Soul Reaver and the list goes on and on and on. Given that a lot more people are using a PS4 vs. PS3, it is baffling to me why Sony doesn't include these games on the PS4's online store. Add the fact that PS4 doesn't support LAN play, and it's safe to feel that owning a PS3 (or 2) is FAR BETTER than having a PS4, and that's because of Sony's decisions, not the hardware!
I had both the Jag and PS1 versions back in the day... IMO the PS1 version was a cut above, most likely due to it being on a CD vs the cartridge on the Jag. It had more environmental effects and obviously better sound and music since they are being played off of a CD. I still have my Jag cartridge but unfortunately my Jag died most likely due to the Mountain Dew I spilled on the power button in like 1994.

Sempre ouvi que a versão Jaguar era melhor, mas o vídeo mostra o contrário. PSX leva grande vantagem, especialmente nos cenários com chuva, neblina, efeitos parallax.
@@Iusti06 Obviously back in the day the Playstation and Saturn were better with intro and cut scenes because it had to be the disc for that. The funny part is the Jag finally got a decent game and then they went bankrupt. lol!
The Jaguar impresses a lot here but I'd say the ps1 version wins, if only for the music and sound effects. Everything sounds so cheap on the jag, though it's cool to see where some of the music tracks origin from. Personally I'd pick the Saturn version though ;)
I don't get it.. Is this comparison using a badly ripped PS1 copy or something? The Redbook audio is clearly missing. Only the sound effects can be heard on the right (PS1) side. The Jag version is good, but the PS1 version is better in almost every way, as it should be, utilizing a CDROm and twice the video RAM. The music is one of the most charming aspects of Rayman and the Jaguar just doesn't come close to measuring up.. I even Did the math too! ;)
I have had both and i remember the ps one version looking better and playing better as well as the sound is better offcourse. And one thing i remember is the music level where you can slide on the ps one you just walk on the jaguar version.
Versão jaguar superior: fase do mosquito melhor, tem um mini game acessivel via codigos e sem loading algum! Além disso o controle do jaguar é mais agradavel de se segurar. Rayman tmb n necessita de acessorios extras (memory card) no jaguar.
In reality the jaguar is better for the only reason is because its older hardware and its running on a cartridge ,the clearity of the ps1 is realy just a resolution difference
I love the ps1 version. It has much better sounds and music by far. I do like the Jaguar opening story slides, but overall feels a bit outdated. Both great versions though.
Saturn has more graphical features (In Mr.Dark's battle, beating him shatters the glass into 3D shards, and has a little cutscene with sprites after that)
I heard somewhere that the Jaguar version was more or less designed for its Motorola 68000 chip. Also, it's easy to tell that the Jag version's audio is lacking. That makes me wonder, is it possible to port this game to the Sega Genesis? I know it means color loss and other details lost, but the GBA version had its colors downgraded, so it's not too much of a stretch.
When it comes to graphics, it's kinda hard to tell, but the Ps1 version does have more details and the colors are more distinct while the Jaguar version looks like it has some kind of green filter over it. Still looks good on both sides, but Ps1 has a slight advantage. For the music and sound effects, the Ps1 is just miles better, the quality and the variety of instruments is just on another level. Then there's the actual tie-breakers (even though it's not a tie :p), and that would be the gameplay and level design. Because having played both, I can say that the Jaguar version was basically a beta version, the controls aren't as responsive (the ledge-grabbing immediately comes to mind) and the level design is filled with little issues here and there, especially towards the end of the game : some awkward enemies placements, some unsynchronized platforms, a questionable puzzle level in the picture world (that got removed in the Ps1 version) among other things... TL;DR : Graphics-wise, it can go either way, but I think Ps1 is a bit more colorful and detailed. Everything besides graphics is just straight up better on the Ps1 version.
I know that this comment is a year old, but thank you! Everyone keeps saying how the Jaugar has better colors and making claims like it having hundreds of thousands more colors, or stuf like that. I've just never been able to see it and I personally think it looks like the Jaguar version has a filter over the graphics, like you said.
I had both of these versions (purchasing the PSX version much later and cheaper). Jaguar version had sharper graphics and smoother animation. PSX version graphics were fuzzy and animation was not as smooth. Both good versions but I'd give this game to the Jag.
the reason for this is because alongside it's other processors, the Atari Jaguar included the Motorola 68000 which was the same cpu as the Sega Genesis. Because of this, a lot of developers got lazy and only used the 68000 chip instead of using the Atari Jaguar's more powerful hardware.
I play the PS1 version on my PlayStation 2 because I assumed that the original Rayman goes on Play Station 2 but it turns out it works on PS2 so I assumed very carefully otherwise I would be playing on a boring old computer PlayStation
Atari with the Jaguar and SEGA with the Saturn made both the same mistake: not investing enough in 3D capable hardware. Nintendo, on the other hand, did the opposite with a machine almost incapable of 2D graphics, and also chose the wrong media. Stuff like.the 3DO or even the Pippin... I'm not considering that as both Panasonic and Apple weren't serious enough about videogames industry. Sony, with a mixed bag, but overall balanced hardware, that had a lot to thank Nintendo for its development, spent millions with developers and truly believed in what they were selling. This is the only truth.
Sounds fx, music goes to the ps1. The other console did a little better on background butterflies 🦋 as well as little blue orbs that would burst 💥 more vibrant. Ps1 wins
I’d say the Jaguars version looks a bit more crisp on the colour and Rayman or just his animation whilst he’s walking looks faster, but PSX wins only due to music and video which tells the story better. But the original slightly different Jaguar version is still great none the less! 😄
Atari Jaguar all the way, in fact Dreamcast would be better than PS1 but the lack of money to do the same amount of marketing and the induce reviews seal the coffin.

Bottom line is, it's all a matter of personal taste. :)
The reason its better on Jaguar is becuase RAYMAN was created for the Jaguar. The playstation version is a port of the Jaguar lol. The Jaguar Rayman is the authentic and original version
Ps1 dollar tree, n64 Walmart, jaguar and Saturn best buy
Yeah but it's objectively of worse quality. Original doesn't always mean better lmao
Jaguar 64 is just a way better system.😆
Ray man was kind of rebuilt every time it was ported.
Jaguar was good at 2D but was way behind the PS1 and 3DO and N64 for 3D so much so it died very quickly after launch.
Jaguar wins because it was a year earlier. The other games are ports with add ons.
Was this on the jag or
jag CD? if it was cartridge based it's a gorgeous game for the time
Jaguar, no Jaguar CD.
Why would it sound like that on the Jaguar CD?🤨
@@TS-yz3ud Jag just have a good hardware sound. Its also can play video in really good quality if you have a programmable cart to put it in.
I had this game on cartridge on the jaguar at the time. The nostalgia of the music is real!
@@bubsy3861 Jag has no hardware sound. It is all software.
I had both the Jag and PS1 versions back in the day... IMO the PS1 version was a cut above, most likely due to it being on a CD vs the cartridge on the Jag. It had more environmental effects and obviously better sound and music since they are being played off of a CD. I still have my Jag cartridge but unfortunately my Jag died most likely due to the Mountain Dew I spilled on the power button in like 1994.
sell your jag cart
The Jaguar version also had clunkier controls and the helicopter ability on Mr Stone's Peak was also much less refined. They are both great, though!
Playstation is better no question about that i had both versions back in the day.
I personally like the PS1 version more because of the FMV and memorable OST (to me)
SPAM COMMENT BOTS ARE NOT ALLOWED
You should really make a comparison of all the versions of Rayman M/Arena!
I prefer the PAL version on PS1, much better voiceacting ^_^
PS1 intro have better music sounds and cutscene + rayman talking very normally that's very awesome i love that
ATARI JAGUAR intro very good they have caption can writing everything they're said that's very good is easy to reading the story beginning of the game i think both very good
Jaguar take 1
PS1 Still very good
Dont forget that PS1 hardware is newer than the Jaguar..... Very important in console/computer comparissons.....
PS1 is smoother....and it even has the fog effect that Jaguar didn't have. PS1 wins.
Don't speak to soon... Atari jaguar have brighter colors than the PlayStation, and some hidden advantages. And because this is a cartridge game of course it's gonna loose to the PlayStation unless this game was run by CDs (Atari CD-ROM extension)
ps1=washed out looking jags still better
@@syncmaster732nplus I think the PS1 port has better colors. I could care less about "brighter colors". The more contrast, the better. Also, it plays better.
@@billybobbob3003 Jaguar is even more washed out.
it didn’t play on cd rom even with the extension so it loses. Stop trying to give it false hope. The ps1 is by far the superior version regardless if it’s not the original version
I never have a jaguar but looks better then ps1
The graphics are basically the same but the sound is def better on the PS1.
Overall I like the Jaguar Version better.
But the Sound is way better on PSX
La versión de atari jaguar es la versión original, mientras que el de ps1 parece en vez de port un exclusivo :v
The Jaguar version sounds like a Java game
It's true 🤣🤣🤣
Overall the Rayman 1 on Jaguar seems more funny because cool music in Background while none on PS1 and nice effects.
Of course nice colors too but those on PS1 are cool too.
But less scenario of course..
So i wish to play it, definitely going to the Jaguar version for the fun :)
I was 5 years playing it on a jaguar
Sempre ouvi que a versão Jaguar era melhor, mas o vídeo mostra o contrário. PSX leva grande vantagem, especialmente nos cenários com chuva, neblina, efeitos parallax.
the atari jag has the first electroons right away, wow but Playstation wins!!!
Did you forgot the PS1 soundtrack??? There's no music in some parts.
Graphically Jaguar. Sound and fun factor PS1.
I think that the biggest difference is that the Jaguar version sounds like total horseshit compared to the Ps1 version.
TomBom292 xD
TomBom292 What do you mean? I prefer the Jag version's sound.
That and PS has more detailed background and colors
i prefer jaguar's music, but everything else about the PS1 version is better than the jaguar version
Pc version is the best
La intro del Rayman de la Jaguar es mítica
Jaguar wins if only because it lacks that awful "YEAH" stock voice clip every time you beat a stage.
you're gay
Lasers fries and disc drives die=Jaguar wins on longevity.
I thought we were comparing the game not the consoles.
Isn't the Saturn the best version of Rayman 1?
all that the jaguar is missing is the FMVs and the YEAH at the end of the level
One is played on a cartrige and the other is played on compact disc 😆
In reality the jaguar is better for the only reason is because its older hardware and its running on a cartridge ,the clearity of the ps1 is realy just a resolution difference
man dont know how only atari jag had the good music
بالرغم انا اتاري جاغور كان اقدم ولكن الوانه في هده اللعبة كانت اجمل وبالنسبة لشكل وطريقة اللعب لايوجد اختلاف
باستثناء الموسيقى و الاصوات
I love the ps1 version. It has much better sounds and music by far. I do like the Jaguar opening story slides, but overall feels a bit outdated. Both great versions though.
I have all 3 versions. Saturn is the best! I just hate the "Yea" at the end of every level
i know the "yeah" part is annoying i dont know why.
I quite like that to be honest.
Oh ok
Saturn has more graphical features (In Mr.Dark's battle, beating him shatters the glass into 3D shards, and has a little cutscene with sprites after that)
i hate the 'yeah' too
The Jaguar version has better colors and smoother sprite animations, while the PS1 version has the better soundtrack.
Last time I checked there was a cage at the beginning of deep forest in PS1, like there is in the Jaguar version.
I know, 5 years ago...^^
Must have lain here on the cut. When he opens the second cage, it is on the psX side, also already the second cage.
@@vermin_x I think it's closer to six years by now. I oughta play through Rayman again...
More scroll parallax in jaguar.
I had both of these versions (purchasing the PSX version much later and cheaper). Jaguar version had sharper graphics and smoother animation. PSX version graphics were fuzzy and animation was not as smooth. Both good versions but I'd give this game to the Jag.
dstarks80 No
You crazy
Must have crappy eyes
I grew up with the DOS version... therefore the DOS version is the best.
There's a DOS port? I'll have to check it out to see if it's actually the best.
The Game is Atari Jaguar original
@Lol papel AFK This is the PS version not PSX get it right.
Atari's Jaguar 64-bit system, the only 64-bit system to play at 16-bit level, and most times even worse.
Well, the Intellivision, the Lynx and the Neo Geo are 16 bits and the Pc Engine is 8 bits... everything is relative ;-)
the reason for this is because alongside it's other processors, the Atari Jaguar included the Motorola 68000 which was the same cpu as the Sega Genesis. Because of this, a lot of developers got lazy and only used the 68000 chip instead of using the Atari Jaguar's more powerful hardware.
Well, good luck to play doom on genesis. "Same cpu" is in it?)
Graphics better PlayStation but colours selected better on Jaguar
Both look stunning but the Jaguar edges it due to more colours but that's to be expected as the Jaguar is a 64-bit system.
wizzgamer not true 64bit jr.
wizzgamer ~ is that a philips cdi controller for your avatar? I really hope you dont think that was a good machine?!
@@orderofmagnitude-TPATP his pfp is not a CDI controller. It's a Gravis PC gamepad. The CDI gamepad was a cheap knockoff.
@@camulodunon oh ok...consider me schooled.
Atari Jaguar but I do love the ps1
This is the only truth.
in the level after betilla background have better color in jaguar unfortunally not support fog
Jaguar wins because of the spinning 3d cube in the logo.....
I'm sure my version of Rayman on the Playstation has different audio on the intro FMV.
The way the English magician sounded depended on if you had an American copy or PAL copy and chose english in PAL.
Blank Blank
It's interesting that they bothered to redo it at all.
This is dumb. No context at all. Is the Jaguar on AV? Rf? Rgb?
Sounds fx, music goes to the ps1. The other console did a little better on background butterflies 🦋 as well as little blue orbs that would burst 💥 more vibrant.
Ps1 wins
atari jaguar
i have the jaguar version...
The jaguar version is not more easy
Fase do mosquito parece bem mais legal no jaguar....
I’d say the Jaguars version looks a bit more crisp on the colour and Rayman or just his animation whilst he’s walking looks faster, but PSX wins only due to music and video which tells the story better. But the original slightly different Jaguar version is still great none the less! 😄
It's very close!!!!
Jag CD could of had the fmv and more content
mike smith but this was On a Jaguar Cartridge not Jaguar CD
What is the capacity of Jaguar Cartridge ?
But in game the GFX is the same.
The largest Jag carts were 32 MB. I'm not sure about Rayman though.
Thing is, almost no developer wanted to develop for an unreliable CD add on that no one bought.
This looks like a race and the PS1 is going faster and i feel like the PS1 versions levels are shorter by a bit
graphically and visually playstation wins.
2:00 it says "untidy too"? i always thoought he said "troublesome isnt it, and im tiny too" xD
Atari Jaguar all the way, in fact Dreamcast would be better than PS1 but the lack of money to do the same amount of marketing and the induce reviews seal the coffin.
defending the Atari Jaguar because you hate the PS1 is super pathetic
PS version shows smooth motion but blur screen.
I can only hear the atari Jaguar ; ....... (
