I refuse to believe the Jaguar only sold 150,000 units. I've seen it and heard about it too much for it to have sold less than the Virtual Boy. It had to have sold at least 1 Million - 1.5 Million, but that's still not a lot.
The Jaguar was frequently defective and had a lot of returns. I had three friends who each got one on launch (the only three people I know who bought one while it was on the market), but had their console fail within a week. They then exchanged the failed unit for a replacement, then had the replacement fail within a week. After the second failure, all three decided to just return the Jaguar and get their money back. Based on that, I can believe 150k units may have been net sales figure, with significantly more having been manufactured.
I remember the Jaguar being the one all the graphics snobs had or wanted. The sales figure mentioned does seem low for the reputation it had back then.
@begula2011 It seems that the reason why the Atari Flashback sold more than the Jaguar was because it was literally $45, and the Jaguar was over $200 back in the 90s. Even then, it's not like the majority of people wanted an Atari even when the flashback was around because most people didn't even know that the Atari was still making consoles during the 6th generation. The "5200" games shown at 8:41 (Ms. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and H.E.R.O.) are NOT 5200 versions of these games. Instead, they are the 2600 versions. Also, the Atari Flashbacks are NOT made by Atari. They are made by a completely different company by the name of AtGames.
@@emunews They also forgot the XE, showed 2600 Pac-Man for the 8-bits, and probably should have mentioned how the makers of the Handy went bankrupt - Jack was somehow worse than EA ever was.
The first Atari cartridge game was originally called the Atari Video Computer System. The designation 2600 was only used from 1982 to distinguish it from the new 5200 model but most people called the original machine the "VCS" for many years after. The first Atari VCS had six switches, not four as in the graphic, and originally had a very heavy metal shield to prevent EM interference from the machine. It was then redesigned with a much lighter shielding and slightly sharper corners. "Heavy Sixers" are collectors' items and quite valuable. It was only several years later that the "four switcher" was released with two of the original lever switches being replaced by smaller switches on the back of the unit. The Atari Junior, a redesigned 2600, was not mentioned, nor were the preloaded Atari Juniors that were released in the 1990s to make a few dollars more on the ageing system. During this time, Juniors varied in the number of games in the console ROM -- up to 128 games in some versions -- and could also play 2600 cartridges. All the demonstration games shown for the 5200 were actually the 2600 versions. The Atari name has been bought and sold several times over the years and is not the same entity it was originally. In reality, only the name survives, save for the occasional releases of emulated games on superficially similar hardware.
@@Luke5100 Yes, that sounds like the Junior. Initially they had no built-in games and were redesigned to reduce manufacturing costs. The preloaded versions came out in the 1990s as memory got cheap enough to dump a bunch of games into an onboard ROM chip.
One thing I would like to see is an evolution of Tiger Electronics. The effort this guy puts into his videos are insane and he talks about stuff that not everyone knows about, like Atari.

I'm surprised you didn't mention E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600. That game has been credited as a major factor in the infamous crash of 1983. They also found the landfill in New Mexico where about 10% of all the games extracted were E.T. games.
8:53 Fun fact about the video game crash of 1983 it was actually due to Atari because they released the worst infamous game for the Atari 2600 and that game was E.T which is based off the famous movie at the time when the game released
yeah, Atari wants one on one on Nintendo, but they didn't know that Nintendo are the one who rise from the ash after the crash, Atari knew their mistakes
Ahh yes another folk who heard something about ET being the worst game and destroying the entire game industry and proceeds to spread the claim around without ever actually having played ET or knowing anything about what actually happened.
@@IanSonicGachaVA “did research” more like “read an article on some random website saying something about it.” I didn’t exist in 1983 either, but I’m not ignorant. ET was a fun game, despite having some annoyances. I’d say one of the best games on the system, definitely one of the most complex. It wasn’t ET being bad that killed Atari; it was that Atari grossly overestimated the sales, manufacturing more games than there existed VCS systems. Atop of that, the entire market was just full of garbage games (mostly made by third parties, NOT Atari) that consumers had no idea if they would be any good. Resulted in people wanting nothing to do with home consoles. Like I said, I wasn’t around in 1983 to speak from experience, but I can tell you that what I’m saying is more accurate than what you are.
@@IanSonicGachaVA You are wrong. ET by itself could not have bankrupted the industry. Atari, maybe, but certainly not an industry. If that was the case, the gaming industry would crash again as soon as another bad game came out. I’ve never played ET before, but the only complaint are the pits.

Bro I have a PS5 and Atari 2600 and I can tell you this.
It’s not about the graphics, it’s about the gameplay.
i never knew atari was still alive
Loved Atari Since 1978 , always wanted a Atari VCS . My 1st Atari was a 600xl computer. After that I was hooked to gaming and my enthusiasm has grown to becoming a content creator 👍👍
I thought AtGames made the Flashback systems? Either way I really enjoyed this video. Well done.
Correct. The video is wrong. The Atari Flashbacks weren't made by Atari. They were made by a completely different company, AtGames.
As always, awesome
I love these Evolution videos of the console brands well made, I would like to see Sinclair, Commodore (Amiga) Amstrad as these brands helped shape where we are today with home computers and consoles most young people won't understand that these brands helped shape what you have today. I know these brands no longer exist but they played a role.
Ahh, the classic old Atari console with the fine wood texture slapped on it. You know the Stone Age? Well this was the Wood Age where everything back then was made of wood.
Wrong, check in the bottom (if you have a Atari Flashback)
@@begula2011 Just because AtGames licensed the Atari name and logo doesn't mean that Atari actually makes them.

They also forgot the XE, showed 2600 Pac-Man for the 8-bits, and probably should have mentioned how the makers of the Handy went bankrupt - Jack was somehow worse than EA ever was.
Thank you, Your Video animation is amazing 👍😍
In reality, only the name survives, save for the occasional releases of emulated games on superficially similar hardware.
you're really an atari expert aren't you
@@Luke5100 Yes, that sounds like the Junior. Initially they had no built-in games and were redesigned to reduce manufacturing costs. The preloaded versions came out in the 1990s as memory got cheap enough to dump a bunch of games into an onboard ROM chip.
I didn’t know ATARI existed in 1990’s.

Flatlife: “In total only 69 games were released for the console.”
My brain: Don’t do it, please don’t do it

Wait a second. 0:16 and 8:53!? Did you just used Saving the World and New Order musics?
One thing I would like to see is an evolution of Tiger Electronics. The effort this guy puts into his videos are insane and he talks about stuff that not everyone knows about, like Atari.
Atari made an AMAZING Transformers game in 2004. One of my Favorite games of All time.

Lol
Yes after begging for a year to watch it finally happened yes yes thankyou so much I almost gave up
If Atari is gonna comeback it's going to be legendary!
props to you for crediting Magnavox. Many people mistakenly credit Atari as the first gaming consoles simply because they perfected a formula which was already out. Atari might have made it better, but Magnavox pioneered the video game.
I'm happy for Atari. They continue to game!
Atari can make an Comback like they did with their Flashback Consoles
I come from a universe where there’s a new console called the Atari 2600+!
Fun fact: in my country, the word Atari refers to all video games consoles even today.
You must be iraqi.
So I am.
@@gilgamesh-antara I am from Yemen but so much love to Iraq, my friend
Great video can you please do a Sega controller evolution
I didn’t know that Atari was a company until I watched this video
The first game ever was 1952 Sheep & Gates. 5 years later first VR glasses was released, but it was enormously heavy and the screen wasn't that good!
Its not sheep and gates its steven's draughts
I am 49 years old and atari was my first console back in the 80s it reminded me a great epoc of my early years Great video by the way 👍
I can’t believe Atari isn’t dead with making their consoles when they have the worst console of all time Sega should come back and Atari retire and just make games
Message me on telegram is back baby 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Atari is the worst console of all time baby 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Telegram is mad Peter Parker said Atari is bad oh you poor little boy
What’s wrong telegram do you even have a PS5 xbox series X I can picture you homey boy you are broke your still playing on the Atari
its the worst console of all time because its old idiot. also they didnt make the atari vcs to compete with ps5 and xbox series xs, its just a console that is being sold to play retro video games without having to find rare, collectible console on ebay or some junk like that
Fun fact: the Atari 5200 and 7800 are 2600 x 2 and 2600 x 3, respectively.
I'm surprised you didn't mention E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial for the Atari 2600. That game has been credited as a major factor in the infamous crash of 1983. They also found the landfill in New Mexico where about 10% of all the games extracted were E.T. games.
I think he’s talking about Nintendo more than Atari.
I really liked the sega video and I also like this!
Animation and voice is amaze!
New atari console and controller looking lit
I hope all the games they developed go on it so that it feels like a archive of legendary games.
Nah Nintendo is the best.
I love the intro SO much
8:53 Fun fact about the video game crash of 1983 it was actually due to Atari because they released the worst infamous game for the Atari 2600 and that game was E.T which is based off the famous movie at the time when the game released
yeah, Atari wants one on one on Nintendo, but they didn't know that Nintendo are the one who rise from the ash after the crash, Atari knew their mistakes
Ahh yes another folk who heard something about ET being the worst game and destroying the entire game industry and proceeds to spread the claim around without ever actually having played ET or knowing anything about what actually happened.
@@PET_-rp9rx Bruh even though I was not born at the time I did research it and it was due to Atari
@@IanSonicGachaVA “did research” more like “read an article on some random website saying something about it.”
I didn’t exist in 1983 either, but I’m not ignorant.
These are my favorite type of your videos
