Remember each of these games took a few kilobytes of memory (basic cartridge was 4kB), it's basically the size of a single animated emoji. Considering the hours of fun on them, it's an insanely high fun/byte ratio.
Brings back such GREAT MEMORIES, We had so much fun on Friday and Saturday nights just playing these games and it was even more fun watching my Mom trying to play them. She was such a fun sport at these and she`d laugh so hard when she was doing badly but we had so much fun, i miss those days very much
Primitive though they may appear by today's standards, these games were magical when they fist appeared. And some of them are quite playable today. I was never able to "clock" Space Invaders as a kid, but I somehow managed to do it as an adult, using an Atari 2600 emulator! How often does one meet a childhood objective as an adult?
Dang, I think every video game ever, I remember being very confused with Zelda NES, but I naturally figured out how to get to the first dungeon as I got older!
Great list. Lots of personal favorites on here you don't often find on the best-of videos, especially with the Supercharger getting the love it deserves. I'd love to see a similar list focusing on the modern homebrews for the system. Who would've ever thought we'd see a Robotron clone on the 2600?
I was born in 84 but my older sister's friend who lived around the corner had an atari 2600 so some of these were my earliest gaming experiences. Sometimes the console even stayed at our place for extended periods of time. I even remember trying to play the infamous E.T and asking my older siblings for help and thinking they were just being mean when they said they couldn't help me. Now I know it's because it wasn't even a proper finished game and they were also at a loss as to how to play it lol.
my faves were demon attack , mega mania , kaboom, centipede astroids pacman , every friday night my friend and i would stay up to the wee hours of the morning playing these games
Nothing quite like the Atari. My childhood friend had one and I remember playing and wanting one so bad! I did finally get a Colecovison. Would like to see that list sometime :)
Funny, I wanted a ColecoVision but couldn't get one because, "You have an Atari." Not sure how much they paid to fix my broken Atari that read the fire button being pressed for both controllers even when they weren't plugged in.
Wow 😲 I can't believe I did play all of this games in certain point in my lifetime, this is mega cool, super old school 😎👍✨✨✨✨✨ 80s and 90s the best decades in this planet ever !!!!! 😎
I remember playing river raid with my dad and my brother. Didn't even know the name of the game. Also the one where you have to chase the prisoner was tons of fun!
Exactamente! Saludos!

I've been watching a lot of "favorites" videos of Atari 2600. There's always someone commenting they played combat a lot with their friend/relative. I'd like to see a video pre-Space Invaders of their first 33 games. Also, let's see a "top games" list for their top-selling games, even if Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Defender and E.T. were stinkers. Maybe with some ads thrown in? Should be a lesson for kids.
That is a nice group of games for the 2600. Personally, I would have selected The Official Frogger (Supercharger) over the Parker Bros. port of Frogger. It is so much better than the Parker version! Phaser Patrol is awesome and Solaris is oustanding!
That one required an accessory though, right? I mean, I've seen videos on it. And, yes, you are 100% right it is a league above the Parker Bros. cartridge version, but it requires a Starpath tape loader accessory. I've never even seen one of them in person, and I grew up in the 80s and all my friends seemed to have 2600s (I didn't.) So I could see leaving it out.

I also played Atari in a gameboy. Not sure if it was one game but I like the memories of that
My childhood right there! Great memories! WE (My generation) have witnessed the evolution of the industry from those early days to what it is now!

You can get double fire on atari 2600 space invaders.just turn on the power switch and select button at same time.
Saludos!

Thank you so much for this nostalgic video, Joseph!! It acts as a perfect record for the classic Atari video games of the early 1980s. 👍
Sea Quest and Jungle Hunt brings back so many childhood memories.
Even to this day the Atari 2600 is an amazing game system.
FINALLY a good compilation of good 2600 games!!!
Yeah , ik usually people are putting it on there list or Indiana Jones on it. And both of those games suck!!!
I remember: pitfall, keykapers, frog, not sure about pacman,River raid, space invaders
Enduro and river raid are my favs
Thanks for bringing back so many memories!
Realmente
Last but not least, yar’s revenge, the atari game that I nailed and serves as my avatar here!
Saludos cordiales!
"Montezuma’s Revenge" - best for Atari.
Nothing like an ActiVision game!!!!
Atari meu primeiro vídeo game, ótimas lembranças desse console
I'm so glad secret quest was in this video because not many people know about it since it was released in 1989
My first ever video game system, the Atari 2600. 🕹️
Zaxxon was one of my favorites.
You do such a good job with these videos. Keep it up. Thanks
I have ordered the Atari 2600+ today and I can't wait to try it out. :)
Despite being the early days of 8-bit video games, I miss the Atari 2600 so much!

Great list. I liked Combat, too.
Some of them are really amezing.
Moon Patrol is my favorite of the 5 cartridges I bought in 1983. Too bad you left the music off. Maybe that's a difficulty switch?

space invaders and laser blast are a couple of my favorites.
Well I can't disagree with your list !!! Atari 2600 had some Great Games !
A great Christmas present in Northwest Indiana in 1981.

It would be interesting to see them together. I think Parker Bros. was 1982 and Starpath's was 1983. Still, the first gets it done.
