A very nice, nostalgic video. Especially your soundtrack choice, chills were experienced multiple times. Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PC was the first ever game to truly captivate me, make me fall in love with games, and greatly influence my taste in a lot of stuff. The butterfly effect of this goes as far as the fact that I'm an indie game developer now, exactly because of how briliant that game was. Seeing the game getting stripped down to components by speedrunners, videos like this one and my own, more professional perception is both bittersweet and cathartic, really makes me motivated to pass on the torch and try to create something people would get invested in.
Never before have I considered how impressive it is to start out with one 2D series installment and then to immediately make the transition to 3D for the second game, and to make it quite smoothly at that! That would be like as if Super Mario World had been the first Mario game Nintendo ever made and then four years later they came out with Super Mario 64.
@@Howitchewstofeel5gum GTA went from being largely considered mediocre to one of the best video game series of all-time when it transitioned from 2D to 3D when GTA III came out.
@@DBZAOTA482 True, but the point of my comment was that there was only one 2D Rayman game and then they immediately transitioned to 3D. GTA had two full games plus two expansions in 2D.
Good comparison. Didn't realize there was so many differences between all the different ports of Rayman 2. I first played on PC but since getting a 2ds XL earlier this year have gone back and started playing the 3DS port.
Welcome back. Missed that intro! I have the PS2 version. It's the version I played first, and the one I've always known the most. I prefer that one mostly for familiarity and sentimental reasons.

11:00 Oh my god, thank you! For years I thought I went insane. I played the PS2 version as a child, and after some time lost access to my PS2 and therefore the game. And ever since that day, every remake I purchased, like Rayman 3D, only ever had this portal selection menu. I always wondered, "wait, wasn't this an actual world level you could freely walk through?" and somehow I never found anyone explaining that difference online. Rather, everytime I saw this game again, be it speedruns or gameplays, they always played on a non-PS2 version and each time I thought I lost my mind, remembering a hub world level, that never actually existed. Thank you for restoring my faith in my own memories again. And thanks for this great comparison. Some of those version differences I didn't even notice when watching gameplay. Like the blue lum vs bubbles when swimming.
The PC version is like the N64 version with higher resolution. I rank it at #2 below the N64 version only because I like playing on a console. If you're a PC gamer, I'd recommend it as the best version of the game.
@Yusuf Ziliotto Aside from some potential audio compression and a difference in resolution, the graphics and soundtrack are the same between the N64 and PC.
@TheGeras666 Not really, It also supports DirectX, but unless you have a Windows 98, XP, or if you're lucky with win 7 and 10 it won't recognize it well.

Actually, in that section, you can use one of the enemies in mid-flight to "bounce" yourself up to that same Lum cage, and once you get to it, it saves and everything! The only thing to keep in mind is that if you try to exit the level via the hole in the ground that warps you out, the game will freeze/soft lock. However, since the game saves once you collect the Lum there, you can pretty much just shut off the 3DS and turn it back on and you'll still have that Lum! I saw it done in a RUclips video!

The PC version is effectively the N64 version's content but importing some of the visuals of the DC version (such as the higher res textures and a few of the higher polygon character models).
Fun sidenote: Rayman 2 on GBC is mostly the same game as the first Rayman GBC game. The boxart is the same but with a different background color, the music from the first game is reused, the graphics are mostly reused (incl. the Comic Sans), and functions practically the same. The differences is that Rayman had some new sprites when climbing, has a battery save, the cutscene art took a nosedive in quality, and overall it's made by a different studio. If I were to add one more game, that would be the GBA port of Rayman 3. Yeah, but hear me out: It's mostly a 2D demake of Rayman 2, but with hoodlums stuffed in there way late in development. It's a weird fusion of Rayman 2 & 3, and the only Rayman game where you actually see Rayman shooting out his fists, instead of leaving a "3rd fist" that other games had.
I wasn't aware of how different this game was between all the plataforms, of course since I never really liked Rayman 2 I never tried all the different versions of the game (only played PC and Dreamcast).
Vinicius Fernandes I guess there wasn't much they could do with Rayman and just kept porting the same game but titled it to make it SEEM like it was new. I used to be a Rayman fan.

Also welcome back man
The perfect crossover doesn't exi. . .
Dreamcast is the one I grew up with and I miss it !
For anyone wondering, the PC version is based on the N64 version. And there was also once a IOS version which was based on the Dreamcast version.
The PC version is effectively the N64 version's content but importing some of the visuals of the DC version (such as the higher res textures and a few of the higher polygon character models).
Except it has the real music
HELL, it's about time!
Rayman 2 really recontextualises the meaning of "platformer," somehow more so than the first...
Most the PS1 English is so good it actually makes it my favorite version.
That and the fact that it plays so well even on that 33mhz CPU.
His Camera is in 1080i, I can really tell
King I can't wait for your next video
Rayman's initially release was on Jaguar.
I didn't realize either until I started researching this video, kept finding new versions as time went along haha.
I played Revolution on PS2 but I got lost in the lava overworld and never knew you can buy upgrades 😅

There was also an Apple IOS version which is no longer available.
