Thank you so much for this helpful information. I live in the New Orleans area, and assumed that I could bring my orchids outside (I recently moved here) since it's sunny, humid - plus we have a pool, just not covered, so I thought that it would help to add humidity, and I've been really careful about watering them, feeding them, but not overdoing anything. My cousin actually convinced me to bring them outside, because "they'll love being by your pool!" Well, next time I see my cousin, she's gonna get a seven year old Vanda that fried in ONE DAY despite having her 15 minute daily morning root soak, and the fact that I hung her from a hook under an eave on the northeast side of my house. Within six hours, my Vanda that has moved from Minnesota as a seedling with me all the way through nearly six years, and she'd bloomed late last summer, and had a lovely spike growing for this spring… Well, I hope that I was able to save some part of her with keiki paste. All of my orchids that I brought outside that day were either killed or seriously set back; when I mentioned this to her, she laughed, and said that she has a GREENHOUSE, hence her success with her orchids, that it's much too hot and sunny for any orchid in May in New Orleans. I know whose advice I'll be taking from now on… I wish I had access to the nurseries like those that are in your area. There is a surprising dearth of vendors that sell any orchids at all, or they're all white Phals, usually from "Just Add Ice!" (Right, and be back for another $40 Phal in a week because I froze it by following the very care instructions given to me by the "grower".) Sorry about my rant, I'm very happy to have found your channel, as well as so many others here on RUclips.
If you have a Vanda that is basically a stick with only a few leaves on the top is it ok to cut the stick and pray for new roots for the part you keep?
Please can you help me with my Wanda? The roots don’t grow, but the orchid is doing well, she has two new leaves, but the roots don’t, what can I do? Thank you so much
I grow my vandas under a dense mango tree. They receive good air movement and I water daily. I fertilizer once a week and I cannot seem to get them to re-bloom again. They have lots of healthy roots, but no bloom spikes. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Barb.
You talked about established vandas but I bought my vanda as a new...small vanda. It got some sort of infection and it died. But can a young vanda like mine be without soil....just in the air like that?
That's what she said. They need air on the roots. I have mine on top of wood chips in a wood basket.. Thinking of getting rid of the media now and just letting it hang cuz it's not growing much

Not enough sun?
I agree, not enough sun. They can take a lot of indirect sun and under a Mango tree just wouldn't be enough. Try moving it.
