Thank you for the video, I didn't consider twice a day. I have been doing once a day but they dry out so quickly in summer. I do the bucket idea as well and I have seen them throwing them in ponds in Taiwan and Malaysia. I think dunking them in a water container is the way to go. Thanks for the great advice.
Can you doa video on how to detach orchids form trees. In joy your channel that I just joined and find your videos very informative. Thank you for sharing your expertise. 💐
You and I both. But as long as the desire is there, we will work and pray to achieve our dream of owning a nice home. In the meantime while we r working just enjoy the moment. I establish gardens wherever I live
My mom in Dominican Republic have Vandas in the black trunck and they are very good and healthy also a lot of flowers maybe this help you also the trunk help keep the water and moist in the roots
MSgrismelda I had them in my palms but they got so ugly. The vandas would spike but they would dry up right away. Thank you for the tip :) I just attached a larger Vanda because I was told that one needed lots of sun. Let’s see how she does. Thanks again!!
Something to think about, when we are looking our best....do we stop eating? No, we continue to nourish ourselves....so why would we stop feeding our orchids bc they are looking their best? Fertilizer is truly the only food an orchid receives even when outside, yes ‘deposits’ can be made by passing birds and animals but that isnt truly enough to completely meet their needs. In the 20+ years i have been growing orchids i have yet to experience anything detrimental by fertilizing a blooming orchid. Rule of thumb i learned a LONG time ago and have had great results with, weekly weakly. With vandas...those little satchels you can get at a party store, filled with a slow release fertilizer is an amazing and easy way to feed your vandas. Hang the little bag near the roots and when you water it soaks the bag and allows the fertilizer to flow down the roots. This is a great video - thanks for sharing!!!
Ian’s Orchids thank you Ian great point! I’ve always heard otherwise and never fertilize them while in bloom. I will start with Vandas and see how it goes. Thank you for watching :)
i fertilize my vandas with flowers it does nothing .. only thing is you could damage the flower .. some people also say water 2 times a day maybe 3 ., it really depenpds where you grow .. mine get water every other day ..lots of water will help them bloom a little faster but you also risk fuserium and other problems . Orchid Diva see you at redlands
It could but to be honest if your fertilizer is almost clear you are fine. If you use this everyday it probably wouldn't hurt it. The water in the video is a bit too blue maybe even less to be safe if you are worried.
priya328 it’s been a year since this video was posted... my Vandas do amazing thankfully. And even so I give my personal experiences with my orchids in my climate. No offense taken
@@blancasorchidgarden I love that you're showing what you do with vandas that aren't doing so well so please continue doing what you're doing! Not everything's perfect all the time!
I'm so jealous! I can't even find a greenhouse in my area that sells Vandas (Lowes had some bare-root plants in plastic bags that looked to be just large enough to be called "seedlings" - I bought them all) and they're doing well, indoors in 3" baskets with Synthic (hydroponic sphagnum moss) cut up into pieces that are 3-5" long, and I loosely placed them around each plant and the roots have doubled in length in two months! I call myself "The Orchid Murderer" because, well, that's what I do, but since switching to hydroponic medium for my orchids, and since I've moved to where orchids can be theoretically grown outdoors (New Orleans) for over half of the year, I thought I'd be able to easily find a greenhouse with a large selection of them. Boy, was I wrong. I lived in the far, far north (Minneapolis/St. Paul area) for most of my life, and we had an amazing greenhouse that sold ONLY orchids and the things you need to grow them successfully - except for the "Green Thumb" that I seem to lack. I keep buying them (I buy a bunch every time I go to an IKEA, and they've all thrived, and still have buds and blooms from when I bought them), but Houston is a bit far for me to justify a trip to IKEA (there's never a reason to not go to IKEA, but if I could just find a nice greenhouse that sold orchids, that'd be simpler, plus I'm guessing an actual greenhouse would have a larger selection.) Great video, and thank you for the tips with the Vandas. I'll definitely be picking one (or more) up if I can find a vendor nearby. +1 new subscriber!
Where can I buy the moss? I just purchased small ones in Ft. Walton Beach, because they were small enough to haul home with out breaking them. As I was leaving Lowes, I looked up and saw the most beautiful orchids, just hanging there. No pots, no nothing, just lots of roots hanging down.
Very nice and instructional video. A little tip to save you from squeezing the trigger 100 times. Get your self a little pump sprayer bottle. Your fingers will thank you. Lol. I love your new vanda.
Hello, ty for your post. I have a few questions. I live in FL and my husband got me one of these hanging orchids for Mother’s Day just two and a half weeks ago, it has two spikes that were both full of blooms, we now are dropping flowers in just two weeks. Granted we do not know how long it has has full blooms on the plant. How much should we be watering it here in the warm months since it’s so humid here? Still daily? Typically how long to the blooms last on these? Thank you!
Hello Orchid Diva I have Vandas same situation as yours, what I Did I cut and reamained the hard area of the and plant it back and new roots will come when its ready and looking fresh again.
Hi, just found your channel. I live in Homestead, Fl. and have been having problems with my vanda spikes drying up also. What I do when I see a new spike, I spray it with Bayer Rose and Flower spray. It is in a blue bottle and can be bought in HD or Lowe's. My vandas and other orchids have beautiful blooms now.
Hello. Viewer from Latvia here. Our summers are not that hot, about 68 to 77 farenheit. Should I still dip the vanda twice a day for 15 minutes or less?
Blanca, HELP! My vanda is sick! I have brown mushy spots on the leaves. What have I done wrong? The spots are in the middle of the leaves and feel very soft where they are turning brown/tan. Any suggestions? 🙏🏼
Oh no 😞 sounds like it could be a fungal infection. Leaves also get brown because of sunburn. If it’s fungal you will see the spots on both sides. Sunburn will be one sided. Try using home remedies like cinnamon and hydrogen peroxide if you choose not to use fungicides. I’ve used both but for a more severe fungal infection I like using orthene. I have a video on it if you want to get an idea of what I’m talking about. Hope it’s helpful. I’m sorry about your Vanda 😔
Hi I live in Australia NSW and am dying to find a vanda supplier as I would love to purchase some. Wondering if you have any ideas as to where I can purchase this beautiful orchid. Thanks in advance
Hi, Thanks for sharing: This will help me. I just bought 4 vandas and no flowers yet. Wanted to know how to water & fertilize them as mine remain indoor almost whole year (too cold in France).
you need to add some bark and moss/charcoal etc to the baskets, there is nothing there to catch the water and nutrients. They need to be grown as if they are living in the crook of a tree, so you have detritus and bark and slight acidity.
Incorrect, the roots need plenty of air circulation. Detritus will only contribute to root rot and mold. The roots ansorb nutrients thru osmosis during spraying.
@@1Igster1 you don't spray vandas in the wild, they get all their nutrients through detritus and animal waste, you should always try to emulate their natural environment
No way I could water daily, my orchid is in a light mix of orchid mix, they are watered once per week. I gave it orchid mix about three months ago & have not had flowers. My leaves seem a bit different too. More pencil like.
your information is so good, but the filler words--"um" just drives me crazy. I really want to hear you but all the UM's take attention away from your wonderful information. NOT to offend, just a suggestion for you to take or leave. thank you, kindly

Your backyard/pool area is absolutely stunning. It’s a tropical paradise!🌴
After your video I might try my hand at vandas.

Hi it's very hot in here 32 celcius. It's that ok for vanda? How do I make it grow faster because there is no new leave in these last year
If your Vandas not doing well, I don't think we should follow your instructions. Pardon me if you feel I am rude to you, but this is my honest opinion

Hola cómo estás ? Cómo planto una Vanda debo colocarle algo o solo así sin nada dentro de la maceta ?
Se siembra solo en un canasto, necesitan mucha circulacion de aire y echarle agua dos veces al dia come muestra en el video.
Learned so much! Where did you get those wooden baskets? Very nice Vandas hoping mine flowers soon!
Vanda need some type of bug repellent as well that why your spike doesn’t bloom try mixing soap water and or neem oil, spray well every 6 weeks
Thank you for the info
Very nice

Fertilize directly on dry roots because if you water them first they wont absorb anything
Do you ever use coconut husk fiber to surround your vanda roots to help them maintain moisture?
I don’t just bare root 😊
My mom has a Vanda and it has an over-abundance of roots, many of which don't seem alive. Can these roots be trimmed off?
