    Can you also use regular orchid moss?

    • @vivimannequin
      @vivimannequin 2 года назад

      No. Vanda orchids hate substrate that retains water and in the video he even says that orchid bark is too much as well

    I would like to know what you did with the basket and fibre after planting the Vanda....Next steps please till flowering time!

    I love the hanging baskets they look great, but they don't work for me. I live in Florida and I had to mist my vanda's several times a day on top of a daily watering....way to much work. I potted mine in heavy ceramic pots with 50 bark 50 moss and they love it! I've already got 2 new leaves.

    Hi Luke!
    Not long ago I bought one of your no name vandas after I watched your video.
    My vanda came with broken leaves that kind of healed themselves but I noticed that the leaves have black spots and also black streaks that feel like scars. The spots look similar to the ones that the vanda on this video shows as well, but worse. As I understand this is a fungal Guignardia infection. I already started treating my vanda with physan 20. I hope it gets better. :(

      It is pretty common, but again plants are just like humans, they get sick just as we do. We try and treat them the best we can, but nothing is ever 100% perfect. Looks like you are taking the right steps to fix the problem which is better than most people.

    Hi Luke, I have a question: I heard that the stem of the plant should never be dumped into the water. But how can I soak my new vanda overnight in this setup, without soaking the stem?

    Thanks for sharing the video. Please let me know how to grow Vanda with Spanish moss?

    • @vivimannequin
      @vivimannequin 2 года назад

      To be clear here Spanish moss isn't really moss. It's an air plant and will only compete with your orchid for water

    Thank You so much, great presentation, very informative! I will try this setup since the humidity is low at home and will purchase the baskets and the fibre. Do you recommend any particular brand of fertilizer for a young plant for growing roots and later for flowering?

    You could have avoided a lot of the root damages if you did it much gentler though... was a bit painful to watch you rip off that old basket parts O_o I guess you did not show the part where ripped off the lower piece as you ripped off all the roots 😁 just be a little gentler hahah

      Noelia Suarez just soak the growing medium, and allow it to drip. Then allow time to dry out before watering again.
