I have a vanda that came to me damaged with several broken roots and the roots for rap so tightly around the air growing basket that they were breaking. How do I get my vanda to produce new roots It's starving because it can't get enough water or food because it has so few roots
Thanks for sharing so much knowledge with us...I basically rescued a pair of vandas from bags at a big box store, and after watching your care videos and following your advice, they're not only thriving, but they've doubled in size in just a few months, and have tons of new roots growing. Your videos helped make it all possible!!
She's absolutely genius with orchids lol. I love watching her at work. These orchids are so stunning and memorizing.. I definitely want to collect so much more.
I was terrified of Vanda!! I’d inky seen them at the New York Botanical Garden and thought they were too fancy for a home grower. I bought my first Vanda in March and my experience, buy a blooming side plant! I now have two spikes. The orchid gets a daily soak and weekly foliar feed (it is bareroot) Having flower spikes so soon into ownership makes me feel very confident and excited to get another.
Thanks Danny, I just bought a Vanda Pakchong Blue Mc from a orchid show in south east Queensland Australia. I've been looking for anything about there care & nothing. Then I remembered you. I feel much happier about caring for her now. Thankyou
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your videos! They really give you all the information to feel like a green thumb, my orchids are thriving thanks to you!!
I always enjoy watching your videos. I finally ordered me a Vanda its a seedling and it doing so good, I was scared at first to get one i thought it would die in my climate but watching your videos I knew I could do it. Thanks for all your videos
Thank you! I have a baby pachara I've had for almost a year and it's growing very slowly. After watching this, I think I need to move it to a brighter location and water it more! Thank you for the help!
Love the video. Vandas are my favorite orchids, though I have 6 varieties now. Ironically, the Bangkok Sunset was my first, though I'm still trying to get it to bloom. It's just starting to grow new roots, so fingers crossed it'll happen soonish!!!
Hi Danni, thanks for your video. Here in Germany we are told that vandas can't live in bark, only hanging barefoot or in a vase. Means you have to water quite frequently. But I like travelling! But you show the opposite with the bark. I'd like to try out a type like bangkok sunset. Would you recommend large barc and orchitop? Thanks in advance!
I love your videos and all the tips and advice you so willingly share with us. I have 2 vanda in glass. The violet vanda has very little roots but glad to see it put out a spike. The other is an orange vanda with incredibly lots of roots but no spike. I put them both outside during summer and they seemed to love it esp the roots grew much faster than indoors. All I wish now that the orange vanda puts out some spikes.☺️☺️
I brought home my first vanda hybrid (ASCOCENDA THAI RUBY X VANDA BLACK BALL) after watching this video and I have to say that I definitely have to disagree with them not caring too much about humidity. Mine’s roots have been withering and browning, new tips going brown and dying, despite twice a day soaks in RODI water in a 45% humidity house. I set up a humidifier for it last night and I can already see the root tips breaking through the brown calloused areas again! Mine is kept hanging in a basket, obviously that lowers the humidity around the roots vs in a pot, but I wanted to weigh in on the general statement that they don’t care too much about humidity from my experience and with this hybrid!
I may have overlooked this point in the video but what’s the best way to deliver feed for vandals bare-rooted I’m hanging baskets? Would spraying with prepared water/feed be best or soaking in the water/feed? I use MSU pellets for reference.
Exactly what i needed now! My boyfriend bought me Vanda two months ago for my bday but she does not seem to be happy. 😞 I guess it will change soon thanks to you. 🥰❤️
Hello, I just potted my Vanda last Friday in a clay pot with bark. I got tired of daily watering because of shift work, and I lost many good roots from dunking. How often do you water your potted Vandas?
Thank you for sharing this video. I just got a Vanda orchid and it's so gorgeous, I'm in love 🥰 This helps me out a lot and I do appreciate your knowledge so very much. I usually grow cattlyas but the Vanda is so unbelievably neat. I live in Central Florida Zone 9b and I think these will do ok in my climate. It's so humid here. Also, thank you so much for sharing this website with us called Repotme, I've never heard of them before but their pots are absolutely breathtaking, especially with the beautiful orchids inside. I'll have to check out their site and place an order soon. I mostly collect succulents, cactus, air plants and many different houseplant varieties, but never had any luck with orchids until I started growing cattlyas. You have a great channel! Love watching you go to work on those orchids 😉
Hi Danny. Thank you. Terrific piece on Vandas. I have the Renantanda Sunrise Prasong bought since seedling and growing great. Has been in leca all this time sitting on a south window. Will send pics if it pops flowers in this lifetime 😂.
Thanks a lot for all the information about Vanda. But still I seriously need some help. Recently I bought a few bulbs (look like pseudobulbs) of Vanda from an online store. And they told me to bury these into wet sand for sprouting. These have become sprouted by now, but I am very confused about what to do next. Please help.
Hi Dani @missorchidgirl! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! For Christmas I was gifted a Mimi Palmer and since it's now the most expensive of my 30 orchid collection, I was and still am scared HAH. I feel much better after watching this video but I do have questions that I would love to somehow connect with you about. Do you have any paid-for options for subscribers/backers? There are many orchid people out there but your advice has always been sound and taken me to where I'm at today!

I live in a mostly hot and humid coastal environment. We do have about 4 weeks of winter with about 4 to 8 days of intermittent at or below freezing temperatures. I wonder if these would suit and what, if any, medium would be best for their care
Florida gulf coast here, vandas love the hot and humid weather; I have mine bare rooted. They are water hogs and need water every day like that, but on the plus side they form giant root systems that look pretty cool bare. Thankfully I only have to bring inside a few times in winter when temps fall into 40s.

It has been dropping leaves consistently since December and no longer has much in the lines of roots. I am soaking vanda in bucket for maybe 10 mins as it has not roots. But idk if it’s ok for the keikis to get wet as I lost 3 of them. One seems lose as I touched it and it felt unstable. They’re super small. Any help would be great.
My best friend bought me 2 vandas for my birthday. I don't know that vandas could handle the outdoor conditions in the desert I live in. Do you think vandas could possibly bloom under high output LED grow lights? My best friend saw the flowers but didn't know that vanda like very bright light. I want the orchids from my best friend to survive and thrive.
I need some help knowing what to do with my poor Vanda. It’s about 3 years old and all the thin roots died, it only has a few very thick, hard roots. The stem is long. I was wondering if I can just cut the stem about 50% off? I wish I could send you a picture.
My Vanda arrived without roots, and there are no roots yet, I have had it for more than a year so I wonder if it will ever survive. I keep it in a kind of terrarium, a vase actually, with some spaghnum moss in order to keep it damp. The window is facing south, but with filtered light. Is there any hope?
