Hi Bumblebee! Very nice vanda guide. I doubt that anyone can refute your guidance. Your vandas are so big, leafy and they have the loveliest blooms! I love watching your videos and surely will pass them along for others to enjoy. As always thanks for sharing! ... Kelly D.
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words, Kelly. And thank you for passing my videos along, that's very much appreciated. Happy growing! :)
I really appreciate the window sill Vanda tube. I don”t grow Vandas yet because of my limited grow space, but have been researching. I found the video very encouraging. Thank you.
Thank you so much, Angie. My intention was to show that Vanda growing doesn't need to be an everyday hassle. I hope you'll get your first Vanda anytime soon. Happy growing! :)
Great video, very informative has really help me. I grow my vandas I have 3 all together, my climate is very dry and hot in summer and a very mild winter I live in Athens Greece. I bought me vandas from schwerters about 2 years ago, I tried growing them bare rooted but tooooo much work trying to keep them hydrated, then in glass vases that didnt do much either, and about a month ago i saw that yours are potted in plastic containers with very large bark chips so now I am growing that way, well it hasnt been too long but i already see a difference. I love this video, and once again thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
That's great to hear. I think plastic pots with bark might work very well for the conditions you describe. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Greetings to Athens! :)
Thank you for your video on vanda care! I followed your way, by soaking vanda roots gradually for few hours then eventually overnight per week (with mix of fertilizer). And my vanda has been growing lots of roots for the last 3 months since I have it at home. Today I noticed that it is developing basal keiki 😍 cant wait for it to make another flower spike
I love your orchids - they are so beautiful! And also the landscape as seen through your windows. Looks similar to where I live in the USA. Hoping to get my first Vanda soon. Thanks for the info.
Wonderful video. Your results speak for themselves! Very different growing conditions to mine. I experience very hot summers and keep my Vandas outdoors which certainly means higher maintenance. But wow, your Vandas are something to aspire towards xx
Thank you so much, Deana. I really need my plants to be low maintenance. They just can't count on me, sometimes time is so limited. I have to catch up with your videos. :)
Thank you for another great video. This demystifies vanda care and makes it much more feasible for those of us who would like to grow vandas but are intimidated by some of the growing recommendations out there.
thank you for this video. I am just starting with growing orchids and this is one of the many orchids that I am considering in getting at some point. Right now I am just learning and seeing if this one orchid I could grow. I do have a southern facing window so that is no problem. Maybe in a year or 2 I will get a Vanda orchid to grow. At that point I will let you be one of my first I will tell. Keep your videos coming as I am finding them great to learn. Thank you
Thank you for taking your time to comment, Kim. :) I'm glad you find my videos helpful and will keep my fingers crossed that you'll find a nice healthy Vanda to start with. Happy growing! :)
I will be very happy to share your video ;-) Our care is very similar, only I do shower my Vandas until roots are dark green. I simply have time for that. It works really fine. I soak them only when is time to add fertilizer ;-)
@@bumblebeesorchids3408 I soaked my Vandas before, same as you do and I must admit there is no difference in growth, and health of Vandas so they are happy as yours are. Only I have much more time for them ;-) Thank you very much and Happy holidays to you and your family
Thanks for the great vanda care summary. You are the single one person who made me try my first Pachara Delight! And then more vandas made their way in my grow space! And I follow your watering regime of soaking overnight for the more mature vandas. It definitely works! Just about everything you say about watering, fertilizing, misting, dealing with infections I agree with. Certainly success can be assessed by knowing who provides the healthiest stocks of orchids. It's difficult here in Canada where there are few orchid shows, at least in my part of the country and I'm very dependent on online vendors. But as you are experiencing a space crunch due to too much success, same thing here as the vandas get taller and wider with unruly roots, it becomes a bit harder to manage. I'm still in the hunt for some scented vandas and perhaps the trend towards tesselatta and Bangkok sunset hybrids will make that possible. Happy growing!
Great video! I grown my vanda's in a simular way (oct-may). I have them in large glass vases and fill the vases on saturdays with fertilized water. On sunday I dunk all the water out. The rest if the week they are kept dry. But in summer I do bring them back outside because they take over my windowsill inside ;)
Lots of good info on vandas. Do you have a night drop in temperature and if so how would it work in the winter with window vents pouring out the heat? A reply much appreciated.
@@lorettacabral4196 I don't think you're directing the comment to me but I'll answer. There is always a temperature differential from day and night even for Vandas. It just doesn't get much below the low 60s F. Coerulea tolerates a bit cooler, but you would have to be prudent.
Sorry for replying so late and thank you so much for your encouraging words. I'm glad your Vandas are bringing you joy, they're very beautiful. Concerning space: I could just buy less or sell more (which I try as you'll see in my next video in case you're interested). :D But the Vandas are growing like weeds, indeed (like you said, unruly roots, tall growth etc.). V. tessellata and V. denisoniana are my favourites concerning scent. Happy growing! :)
Great video with lots of useful info. Thank you. I've always liked Vandas but didn't buy them because of the dry humidity during winter. I'll give it a try with the info from your video and with the humidifier I installed recently. Hopefully I will be as successful as you. Great plants! 👍🏼
Enjoyed your beautiful plants and your love for them. I am a new orchid grower in my home. I live I wyoming USA. Love the vandas look but don’t think I have the right growing environment for them.
Such an informative video for indoor care. You briefly discussed making the baskets you use. Do you have a video on making your own baskets? Or can you direct me to one?

Please, can you help with advice. Ive bought keike of a blue common vanda, it was ok, silver roots and fresh leaves. But roots are going brownish now, and ive alredy cut down one roted tip. Im puting it in a jar with some water and mist it in the morning. And i come back home at 7 pm and take it out and its without water at night. Im afraid of loosing roots, and afraid to keep it dry all day... dont know what to do. I have a desire to pot it in plastic with bark... Your voice is very nice)
Thank you! It's difficult to tell without seeing the plant. It might loose roots because it's in a state of transition. Vandas tend to loose some old, mostly thin roots when they are getting used to a new environment. I wouldn't worry too much if there are no signs of infections, but keep a close eye on it. Watering for 10 hours (or so) each day sounds a bit much, though. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Happy growing! :)
Should I cut the long dead stem up to a root? I grow vare rooted in a window. It has two start flower stems now. The bottem 4 inches is stem was dead when i got it with one root. 3 roots now
I don't know if you will see this message or not, but I am an organic gardener from the US and I have been able to manage my orchids organically. I totally agree that chemical fungicide is horrible and should never be used. However, there are many options available that are easy to use and are at least as effective as the chemicals. Monterey Disease Control is my current favorite. But, there are other remedies that you can mix yourself. The reason I like the new Monterey product is that it has zero negative effects on the plants. Organic remedies often surprise you by working much better than chemicals!
Thank you very much for letting me know, Leslie! That’s very interesting. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a product with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in the EU yet. 🙁 Happy growing! 🌱🍀

Hello, great video. One question about how can i keep my vanda. It is same your vanda. I recive in one vaze and now she is in hanging. So i need put in one basket with compost like you or i can leave without. Thank you🌈🌈
Hi Christina, sorry for replying so late. I guess both is possible depending on your watering habits. There's less air movement in a vase compared to a setup without a vase. This has to be kept in mind to prevent the roots from rotting. Happy growing! :)
Wow!...your vandas are amazing!....I thought they needed very high light and very high humidity to thrive....the blue flowers (coerulea?) are unbelievably beautiful....all colors are like jewels...or candies....I want to EAT them!...lol...thanks for a very informative video.
Thanks for this video :) I'm attempting to grow my first vanda and i'm doing it in a basket like yours. I think I need to add some coarse bark or something. I would love to see you make a video about how you deal with bacterial and fungal infections. I always fail at dealing with those, mainly because I don't do anything until it's really far. Thank you!
Thank you very much! :) I think I might start collecting footage of yellowing leaves, infected tissue and things of the sorts to show how I deal with those. It might take a while, though, but thank you for suggesting such a video. :)
Great :) I think that would be really helpful especially because you're really good at specifics. I think a lot of people say what they do but they don't show what they do, which is what I think you do. Either way, thanks! love your orchids.
Thank you very much. :) I think watchful waiting is my preferred method, I don't have great knowledge in treating infections. But we'll see what I can find.
Sounds good, whatever kind of video you feel inclined to do, whenever it works for you ;) Just what you've talked about so far is good to know. Have a great day ;)
Such clear and well-presented information! I like your voice and style: soothing and affirmative. I have a question too; can you speak about winter care when humidity drops as well as living room temps? Apart from that, I have 2 Pancharas and they are,in Summer here in northern USA, doing very well so far. Thank you for your terrific videos! Joseph
Joseph, thank you so much for your kind and encouraging words! :D There's winter care before we turn on the heating (-> little light, low temperatures, little watering) and after (-> 4 hours added grow light for some, higher temperatures again (about 23°C), a little more watering again, but still less than in summer time, because the plants grow less in total). Since I don't have a strict schedule, I just water off the top of my head. Pacharas are so showy when in bloom. Happy growing! :)
Awesome video! Thankyou! Both mine were rescues from a sale rack in home base. They were nearly rootless and both had to have the bottom 3-4 sets of leaves and base of stems cut off due to infections i couldn't see before i got them home. Both grew new root systems this summer, and one has a spike forming!!! Both are hung in my S facing window in baskets, but open roots, with a tiny bit of sphag so when they're watered it keeps the hydration going a little longer!! Btw, can you make an app for android phones please!!!!!!
Thank you very much! :) It's so great that you were able to nurse your Vandas back to health. I'm still trying to convince my partner to make an android version and show him every single request. ;)
@@bumblebeesorchids3408 I hope you manage it. I think you'd have a lot of takers for the app!!! Thanks, one has a very slow flower spike coming. I check it every day XD
Hi Itoh! I don’t use any additional lighting for my Vandas at my southern windowsills. But additional lighting could help especially during the winter months. I’ll keep my fingers crossed your Vandas will bloom soon. 🍀🌱
I am not sure if I mentioned it. I fertilise most of the time (medium concentration). Sometimes I use more fertiliser, sometimes I just use plain RO water. To sum it up: I don’t have a elaborated fertilising regime. 🙈
I received a Vanda last week. It is in A plastic pot with orchid mix. It is dehydrated, so I am watering every three days & misting twice a day.. how long does it take for the roots to be hydrated? I would like to succeed. It is in a South window like my collection. How often should I water.?
Hi Michael, there's no one fits all solution, but I've made video about this topic: ruclips.net/video/XP4-hTvh_3M/видео.html ruclips.net/video/i2L1kHYtcEc/видео.html I hope that helps. Happy growing! :)
Thanks for an informative video! I'm probably far from getting my own vanda (or a new one I should say, the first one died pretty quickly...), but it's always interesting to learn something new. I'll check out your other videos now and subscribed :)
hello, love all your videos and always waiting to see your new ones, and just want to know the name of first yellow vanda with purple lips and the very dark purple vanda with round clay pot thank you for all your infor, Jaya
May i sock my vanda every day for 15/20 mins ?? Or bestvbe twice a week couple of hours ? which youbtecomsnd ? How long vanda root shall seat in the fertiliser bucket . I noticed from your comment box . You hardly reply !! If you wish you may skip my question ;) Good luck
Hi Hamin, it depends on your personal schedule. My point is: As long as your plants get enough hydration and perform well everything is fine no matter how often or long you soak. Happy growing!
Thanks for this video! It's strange though: you live in central europe, i assume then your climate is a bit colder than mine (I live in central Italy). So far I have watched videos saying that vandas need watering almost once a day, which is what I have done , with little success though as its roots seem dry, perhaps because my house is pretty dry indeed. I have soaked it so far but I am afraid some water went on the axes and that was not good. Watering once a week, in Europe, seems little to me...no doubt it's working though as yours look gorgeous! Congratulations!
Thank you, Maria. My climate is a bit colder and slightly more humid than yours for sure. It depends on various factors. My bigger Vandas with their extensive root systems can hold very much water. I imagine that Vandas can lose much moisture via the leaves in hot and dry environments, though. It all comes down to try and error. What works for me might not work for you and the other way around. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you will find a watering routine that suits your and your Vandas’ needs. Happy growing and stay safe. 🌺🌿

Thank you, Misslou! :) I'd have to check my notes, because don't remember the details from the top of my head. But I remember cinnamon, a copper fungicide and seiling the spots with nailpolish and those methods didn't really work. But the infection never assumed alarming proportions.
@@bumblebeesorchids3408 The way I wrote it sounds NOT NICE. I should have said.... I must be very lucky because I live in the tropics and my orchids grow with little effort. Thank you for your very nice clip. So sorry.

I think watchful waiting is my preferred method, I don't have great knowledge in treating infections.
There's winter care before we turn on the heating (-> little light, low temperatures, little watering) and after (-> 4 hours added grow light for some, higher temperatures again (about 23°C), a little more watering again, but still less than in summer time, because the plants grow less in total).
I check it every day XD
hi Bumblebee! Do you use additional lighting for your Vandas? Mine never flower for me 🥲, I have them in my southern windowsill. Thanks
Hi Itoh! I don’t use any additional lighting for my Vandas at my southern windowsills. But additional lighting could help
especially during the winter months.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed your Vandas will bloom soon. 🍀🌱
I'm not sure if I keep missing it, but how often do you fertilize your vanda's? Or do you have fertilizer in the water every time you soak them?
I am not sure if I mentioned it. I fertilise most of the time (medium concentration). Sometimes I use more fertiliser, sometimes I just use plain RO water. To sum it up: I don’t have a elaborated fertilising regime. 🙈
I love Vanda video, thank you
Thanks a lot, Vinson. :) Happy growing!
I received a Vanda last week. It is in A plastic pot with orchid mix. It is dehydrated, so I am watering every three days & misting twice a day.. how long does it take for the roots to be hydrated? I would like to succeed. It is in a South window like my collection. How often should I water.?
Hi Michael, there's no one fits all solution, but I've made video about this topic: ruclips.net/video/XP4-hTvh_3M/видео.html
ruclips.net/video/i2L1kHYtcEc/видео.html
I hope that helps. Happy growing! :)
Love the video. Question though, how do you soak those very large vandas you have? Still in a bucket? They look too large to move.
Thank you, Beth. They're still soaked in their buckets. They've become quite large but aren't all too heavy.
Thanks for an informative video! I'm probably far from getting my own vanda (or a new one I should say, the first one died pretty quickly...), but it's always interesting to learn something new. I'll check out your other videos now and subscribed :)
Thank you very much for commenting and subscribing! :) Happy growing!
What we want to know is the method of how the root of grow what are the fertilizer
hello, love all your videos and always waiting to see your new ones, and just want to know the name of first yellow vanda with purple lips and the very dark purple vanda with round clay pot thank you for all your infor, Jaya
Thank you very much for your kind words! That’s V. Ruby Pixie and Colmarie. Happy growing! 😊🧚♀️
You are a champion
Not really, but thank you! Happy growing!
Good commentary.
Thank you very much. 🙏
Very helpful
Thank you, Iiris! :) Happy growing!
How do you water the ariel roots?
Hi Gan, I don't water them. Happy growing!
How are your phals doing in October? But love this video thanks ❤️
Many of them are growing new leaves as if they didn't see winter is coming. I'm editing a new Orchidiary video, so in case you'd like to be updated on something feel free to let me know. :) Happy growing!
Bumblebee's Orchids nice cant wait for the update ! Oh ! Soooo Finally after years a nursery in California Is selling phal bronze maiden I know I almost died lol she is quite expensive but I am really thinking of buying her
Question: So how indeed, did you handle phillosticta in your vanda when the nail polish, failed? Also ...
EXCELLENT AND CONCISE VIDEO!😊
Thank you, Misslou! :) I'd have to check my notes, because don't remember the details from the top of my head. But I remember cinnamon, a copper fungicide and seiling the spots with nailpolish and those methods didn't really work. But the infection never assumed alarming proportions.
@@bumblebeesorchids3408 so the orchid, survived? And will stay in quarantine, for how long?
Will the Orchid app be available for Android at any stage? I really like your videos :)
I hope it will, but not in the near future. Happy growing and take care. 🌸

Je souhaiterais. Avoir versions françaises
Je ne parle assez bien le français pour les vidéos. 😬 Mais il y a quelques vidéos très biennes sur la chaîne de Rachel: Gardening at Douentza.
Nice. Thanks aka Danke!!! :)
Thank you, Karl! Happy growing! :)
Have you considered hydrogen peroxide to treat the fungus/infection? No need to worry about toxicity there!
Actually you can cut in the middle aslong us have roots so that not so tall
Absolutely. Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/Sc8HSob76sQ/видео.html Happy growing! :)
I live in the tropics. Mine grow with very little effort.
That's great. :) Happy growing!

The way I wrote it sounds NOT NICE. I should have said.... I must be very lucky because I live in the tropics and my orchids grow with little effort. Thank you for your very nice clip.
So sorry.
@@francus7227 No worries, Francus. But thank you a lot for your thoughtful message and taking the time to clarify. I didn't mean to sound ironic in case it sounded that way. I wish you a very enjoyable festive season and a happy and healthy 2023! :)
